    I think it is the last innovative guitar ever created that is not based solely on electronics. It is my dream guitar

    Beautiful GM. I have a very clean white GM 4TA as well that I use as my "fine wine" guitar; in other words use another guitar (a wonderful Mayones Hydra) as my main axe, and I pull out the GM on occasion to savour. I still can't believe they aren't made anymore. Top shelf instrument that is in many ways still superior to standard guitars.

      You are right, so many people dismiss them because they are headless, but they are fine guitars. I saw a 12 string on eBay a couple of months ago, but it disappeared really fast. I guess a collector offered a lot of money privately because I have never seen one before.

    I have one of the newer Gibson-made Steinberger Spirit GT Pro Deluxe guitars in metallic blue finish, hopefully sometime in 2024 I will be able to order an MGR Series 001 replacement bridge so I can replace the stock R-Trem bridge which is still in reasonably good condition but has some issues that affect tuning stability, mainly the locking lever doesn't securely lock the bridge like it should, the bridge is still able to move slightly, and the two pivot posts slightly lean towards the bridge pickup because the metal used to make the bridge is a bit soft for the job, the slight lean towards the bridge pickup is barely noticeable though.

      I'm not familiar with the newer models, but there must be after market parts for the bridge, or even original Steinberger parts that you can get a guitar tech to fit?

    Vito Bratta of White Lion also used Steinbergers.

      I wasn't familiar with White Lion, but he had a white Steinberger from what I can see. I need to check them out, I love a good 80's hair metal band!

    Those things are majestic. Shame they were abandoned and the entire support network for them probably hinges on a couple of volunteers in the entire world. And that third dude in Korea being the last on earth making decent quality Steinberger hardware(no TransTrem tho, it's a lost art apparently).

      I think Ned Steinberger was a genius, the guitars are just so good in many ways, but the looks really divide people. It's a shame we aren't more accepting of new designs, instead of just reverting to reliced copies of classics.

      @@offbeatinstruments headless guitars have a bit of a renaissance in prog metal circles (Strandberg, Kiesel or Mayones make pretty cool looking ones). I guess TransTrem functionality was replaced by those digital retune-on-the-fly Variax guitars.

    What is the serial number on this guitar? I have a Steinburger just like this and have no idea what model it was. I could really use some help

    • @offbeatinstruments
      @offbeatinstruments  2 роки тому

      The serial number wouldn't really help and it wouldn't sensible for me to share it. The model number derives from the pickup combination. Mine is a GM4TA because it is S-S-H Active Pickups. There is a GM7T, which is H-S-H, GM2T, which is H-H and a rare GM3T, which is S-S-S.

    Just bought a Spirit bass and am really curious about the Spirit guitar. Hopefully a new GM4T will be issued at some point, I'd certainly get me one. These 'remakes' are ridiculously cheap.

    • @peterhajdin1966
      @peterhajdin1966 2 роки тому

      They are. Also, they are words apart from the originals. Not that they would be some kind of a fraud, mind you - it’s just that the price difference truly reflects the giant difference in quality. For the price, the Spirits are nice guitar. Yet you should try one of the “real” ones should the occasion arise.

      @@peterhajdin1966 I'm interested in a Steinberger headless bass/guitar doublerneck. Mike Rutherford of Genesis used to play one, but they are next to impossible to find, hence probably ridiculously expensive. I bought the Spirit bass because it's easy to carry on my bike when I go to music school.

    Maybe good for some overdubbings but too sharp to play solo.
