Chorus:
I'm going to watch you shine
Going to watch you grow
Going to paint a sign
So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you
Me and my Dad danced to this at my wedding. He died two weeks ago, this is the first time I have been brave enough to listen to it.😢
I'm sorry to hear that 😢😢. This is my and my daughter's song
so sad
So sorry to hear. It took me years to be even a little ok after my mom passed. Just know that he would have never left this world until he knew in his heart that you were strong enough to make it through, without him here.
I have 5 beautiful daughters, and I just recently discovered - imaginary future's version of this song. When you are ready, you should give it a listen... sometimes we all need a good deep cry to help process.
Again, I am so sorry for your loss, the pain never goes away, but eventually it does become somewhat bearble. I wish you the very best in life!
I’m truly sorry for your loss of your father I am looking for a song for my daughter’s wedding for her and her father to dance then I saw your post. The song is beautiful. I know it must be hard when my mother passed four years ago. It was so hard but always remember when you look up at the stars or you feel a raindrop or the sun in your face, your father is looking down on you with the smile knowing he was so proud of you and he will be watching you every day. He is your true guardian angel that’s how I feel about my mom. May God come for you with peace in your heart, knowing he’s in heaven, God bless you
this comment is for all the other daughters who also did not get the love they needed and deserved from their fathers. you are loved.
thank you.
That means allot thank u
Was already crying listening to this song and then song this comment and started sobbing. Thank you
Needed to read this more than you know.
I didn’t get that love from my Dad, but then at age 20 a very special Priest came into my life and has become a Dad to me. My Spiritual Father is the most wonderful person. He has supported me through so much and looked after me when I’ve been really ill
I lost my daughter 3 years ago. I used to sing this for her. This is the first time I listen to this after she passed..
I'm so sorry.
I just burst into tears reading your comment. Paired with the song playing, which always brings me to the brink of tears on its own, it just ripped my heart in half. I can't even imagine. I am so sorry. Thank you for loving her as much as you did while she was on this earth.
I’m sorry mate
I can't imagine how that must feel. May she rest in peace, and may you be at peace with her passing.
Omg I’m so sorry for your loss and forever heartbroken 😔
I’ve always been a rough guy.. Prison, drugs, fighting. It when I had my daughter I’ve never felt so loved nor have I ever loved something so much. I finally have somthing to live for.. she literally saved me and is a true blessing. I hope one day she realizes how much she really means to me and how she is a blessing to my life.. She will be 2 years old In dec.. she saved me.. I love you little girl.. one day you will be old enough to understand how much I love and cherish you !
Audiboy814 James God bless you 🙏🏾 I’m hoping I have a daughter soon
Pray for me too. It always be a bless to see our little girl growin up.
Have two daughters. They taught me to see the world through their eyes.
I know what you mean.
James..this is 7 months after your post, but I hope you have a great relationship with your daughter. As someone who quit drugs and drinking (and smoking) 3 months before she was born 30 years ago, the biggest advice I can offer you is to set the example. If you haven't already (and good for you if you have!) get yourself straight. I never even had so much as a bad argument EVER with my daughter. No spanking. No isolation and shaming (aka "time outs"). Read to her every day and make sure she knows you're always there for her. Encourage her to be what she wants. I recall several times when mine was your daughter's age taking her to the local pet groomer when she said she wanted to be one. Or, one time, driving her to the firehouse when she was 3 and told me she wanted to be a "fire girl." And when she started school, she wanted to do acting. My daughter grew up to be her school's Valedictorian, won a pageant over 75 other girls, had a speaking part in a movie with some very famous people (won't say who), and now is a TV news anchor in a top market. Above all...love her and always be there for her through the ups and downs. Good luck and God bless.. (Oh, one other thing, way before it was popular...I started writing letters from Dad on my daughter's birthday, recapping the previous year. Started when she was 1 year old and when she turned 18, I gave her all the letters. Yeah, it was cool. :-) )
Happy for u from Ireland
Cried my eyes out listening to this!
Lost my little girl in 2005. She was just 5 years old! A very very very late child and my only daughter!
Little girls are a true blessing to a man, THEY make him WANT to "grow up"!
William Briscoe I'm so sorry for your loss.
So sorry William, seems like you grew up to be a good man...
William Briscoe So sorry for your loss
Sea bird song
1:43 best moment ever
This is a ridiculously good song for a kids film
Charlotte Barnes thank you !
I'm 28 now, and I still LOVE this film's soundtrack!! So many great artists on it: Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews, Sting, The Pretenders...quite a lineup!!
That's because it's a ridiculously good kids film!
You said it best
A ridiculously talented songwriter and musicians. The guitars are masterfully arranged. Bass lines are perfect.
62 years old and I have a difficult time not tearing up. For all the Dads who discovered unconditional love for the first time when you gazed into you newborn baby girl's eyes.
You and I have things in common (besides our age, I'm 66) and I can't listen to this song without tearing up. My daughters have taught me what love really is. I was completely in love from the moment I saw my first daughter.
Anybody else watching this have tears pouring out their eyes. And one of the reasons being that you realize that you have gotten old and took the wonderful moments of childhood no bills and watching cartoons all day taken for granted.
Yes but for a different reason
Right on
😭😭😭
I can't help but cry bittersweet tears when I listen to this song. It makes me remember the most amazing childhood moments that I took for granted and are now in the past. It also makes me said to realize how my relationship with my parents and siblings has changed.. but I take comfort in knowing I have the memories and I can always look back on them fondly.
god you’re spot on
My dad gave me a cd with this song on it for my seventeenth birthday complete with a postcard of a golden retriever. He passed away a month later from colon cancer. That was almost twelve years ago, and this song still means just as much to me as it did the first time I heard it.
You can take comfort in the fact that he left you with a beautiful memory before then. You would have him forever in your heart.
I'm so sorry Katie. I lost my dad 3 years ago on my 36th birthday to esophageal cancer. It's beyond cruel and robs you of crucial time. Stay strong hun, I'm here if you need me xx
That’s so sweet. I hope you still have the CD and the postcard
❤❤❤
For me, my two daughters softened my heart. My childhood was harsh, horrific and short. I was raised to be Vulcan like. Feel no emotion and feel no pain. It was sick and twisted. My girls taught me to love completely for the first time in my life. So grateful for them. Wept listening to this.
Enjoy your lovely relationship with your girls. Treasure them.
My daughter is mentally disabled.
She doesn't have a dad, just me and her .
I have never heard this song but she just came and got me to slow dance to this song in her room. She has never done anything like this before ever! 💜😭
This is now forever, my favorite song.
Give your daughter a big fat hug from South Africa
and a hug from Long Island, NY
And here's one from me to her...

My dad passed away a few days ago. He and I used to watch The Wild Thornberry's every Sunday morning together, and we watched the movie together as well. This was our special bonding time, and the instant I heard this song in the movie, I knew this was for us. It was going to be our father daughter dance whenever I got married. But now that will never happen. RIP Dada.
My dad used to say this to me all the time, and now that he's in heaven this song means so much to me!
omg Kandee you're amazing
I lost my dad too 7 months ago...
Chee Teng Ho I’m sorry for your loss
oh, bet he had pink hair just like you...
I LOVE My Baby Girl FOREVER! Her name has been changed to Isabella Wagers instead of Capps!
I don't have a relationship with my father. He's been out of my life since I was 3.
Whenever I hear this song I feel like I am blessed enough just to hear what a love between father and daughter is like ❤ and am happy for those who is blessed enough to have their fathers in their lives. Wherever my father is, I hope he knows that I still love him.
I hope you're able to reconnect with him someday! It's never too late. 😊

oranges 19 same, he left me when I was 5 and my brother was 18 months ! Idk what is a father daughter/ son love, but when I see all those people who are happy with their dad that make me feel happy too ( yes I know it’s ridiculous).
Today I’m 16 and I still don’t have a contact with this man that we call « a father » and I don’t think I will one day but I have a message for all the person who share our situation, you have to stay strong ! ❤️ ( sorry for my bad English, I’m french 😅🇫🇷)
Merci. :)
My daughter and I danced to this song at her wedding recently. What a beautiful song that totally reflects the father-daughter bond. Thanks Mr. Simon!
I am thinking this is the song for my daughter wedding dance with me. I just don’t know how you ever got through it :-) I’m crying just listening to it now
We don't have a daughter because of our Learning disabilities but we do have a doggy daughter and this reminds me of our 1 year old toy poodle Olivia Marie.
So my father passed away this morning. I can’t help but listening to this song.
Love you dad, we’ll meet once again...
I’m a 46 yr old woman but still am a huge daddy’s girl! He’s an amazing man, has always been my hero, served in desert storm, survived esophageal cancer and colon cancer and he’s so brave and I love him for sending me this !
Every time I hear this I ball my eyes out. My dad would sing this to me all the time when I was a kid. He’s not dead or anything but it reminds me of him and all I can do is cry
Same😢
I cry everytime I listen to this song. My dad and I have listened to this song a lot together and we always both end up in tears. One day we will dance to this song at my wedding.
Thank you Paul Simon, for encapsulating what the love between a father and daughter feels like. And to my dad- we have a one in a billion relationship and I am so blessed to have you as a father. I know you look at UA-cam comments, so I hope you see this and know how much you mean to me ❤️
This is the perfect song for the father and bride dance at a wedding ❤️
This was the song my father and I danced to at my wedding. And today he is sick battling a illness in the hospital.
This was my sweet 16 dance and will be my dance with my dad at my wedding in three weeks ❤
They don't make kids shows like they used to
Sometimes I listen to this song and imagine a childhood I never had with my father.
I dedicate this song to my 2 year old daughter. I love her so, so, so much. Unfortunately her Mom and I split up, so I only see her half the time that I am used to. But I cherish every second I have with her. She means the world to me. I love you Remi, I'll always be there for you.
Brother, as a new dad I can say your little girl loves you with all her heart
What a reality with father and daughters . I was always daddy's little girl he passed it's so hard it hurts to watch TV our father fail . I love him miss him always watching for him on the clouds or a sign he is close I know he is . What a song thank you for this great song
Honestly, if any other artist sang this song it wouldn't get to me as much as Paul Simon. Something about his voice that just sounds different and very calming. Great song, both lyrical and instrumental! The words really hit the heart with good feels.
I agree100%❗❤
This is the song that my dad and I danced to at my wedding. Literally can’t listen to it without tearing up 😭
We did the same 🥺💜
I'm about to use it for mine and am literally sobbing typing this 😭
Me too!! ♥️
@@tgrumpy nahi’m
my plan is to have my father daughter dance to this as well!
It’s been 4 years now. I always told my dad that THIS would be our Father/daughter song and he loved it. He passed before that could happen.
I still haven’t found my person in life, but when it does happen I know he will be with me.
May your memory me a blessing, dad. I hope to see you again someday.
god bless his soul & may he rest in peace
When I first heard this, I had tears in my eyes. This Saturday ,9/19/15, I will be dancing with my daughter at her wedding to this song. Thank you Paul Simon!
I never heard this til now..2023. I LIKE IT❤❤
I lost my father to pancreatic cancer two weeks before my daughter was born last month. When I was a little girl, my dad used to talk me out of nightmares (I had a very vivid imagination) in much the way Simon describes it in the song. Although this song makes me cry, especially with the amazing guitar riff, I know that my husband will be every bit the amazing father to her as mine was to me.
sorry for your loss.
This song makes me tear up. Thank the heavens for my Father. Thank the heavens for my husband who is a wonderful dad to our daughter.
I’m browsing songs for my daughter’s upcoming wedding and this one… well, it’s so beautiful and sums it all up. My heart goes out to all the people commenting; fathers who have lost their daughters and daughters who have lost their fathers. Every day is precious. Take care of yourselves.
I'm glad you'll be there for her wedding! I'm going to play this at mine this summer, but both my father and brother have passed away. I will dance with another male relative. ❤
I just spent 2 months on and off and on again searching through 400 "father daughter" songs for my little princess' wedding in 3 weeks. I can't believe, having so many Paul Simon cds on my library, I never heard this. First time through I said this is it! So many things he sings about we did! Took her to the field to watch meteor showers, fishing, adventures... Perfect. The wedding is going to be half of the 100 people we originally expected due to Covid 19 but I'll be there!
Go hug your dad, or your daughter. My dad passed away about a week ago and he sang this to me when I was little. I'm a 16 year old girl and I wish I would have hugged him more often, so please... take my advice. The day you lose someone is the most normal day of your life, that's why everyday you need to let them know you love them.
fertility rerr
Im sobbing. Straight out sobbing. This is my dad and I's songs and I miss him so much right now.
Oh, man. I forgot all about this song. Lovely, a masterpiece. It's a weepy.
For those who weren’t loved by their earthly father the way you should have, our Heavenly Father loves you deeply. God is the ultimate parent and will look after you with a tender love. A watchful protective eye on you. God loves you and your his daughter. Jesus loves you
I gonna raise a baby girl and sing this song to her every night. When she grows up I'm gonna travel the world with her.
you'll be a great father. ^^
p
Future Past Have fun
I was literally just thinking that, that someday I'll sing this to my future baby daughter while putting her to bed!
Change some word and this song could be a sweet husband-wife song.
My daughters are now 20 and 17 and I played this for them when they were little. To this day it brings a tear to my eye.
I sang the last two verses of this beautiful song to my Daughter at her wedding in Tuscany last week. We live in different parts of the world now and I love and miss her each and every day of my life.
I am alienated from my daughter, she will have nothing to do with me. This song automagically has tears running down my face. Beautiful song.
My daddy sang this for me back when I was 9, lol it kinda make me cry
This song makes me feel kinda depressed, because I was never that close to my dad. It wasn't that he was a terrible father, it's just he's always very distant and never really learned how to be a parent or develop a bond or even talk to me. But I still think it's a very sweet song, and it's nice to know that a lot of girls and women find it more sentimental and relatable than I do! :)
My father acts the same way towards me. I think he would rather give me presents than his presence.. Regardless I imagine both our dad's love us and always will. Maybe we both just need to be more confident and asserting towards our relationships between our father's. Just understand that there are people out there like you who deal with the same situations.
Kate Frost i relate so much... i cry so hard listening to this, because i wish i had a father that cared so bad man..
Kate Frost It makes me a little sad too. I use to listen to this before I knew my dad. I always wished I had that connection too. Other people's dad's seemed scary to me and I think it's a little harder to understand men if you didn't know your dad. However, my grandpa is a loveable goofball and now it reminds me of him.
i feel the same way.
i feel the same. maybe you can send it to him? i just did to mine, and said "there's never been a daughter who loves her father more than i do." he got all sappy. 🙈💛
My dad showed me this song when i was little. Everytime I hear it I think of him. This song means a lot to me and I can tell that it means a lot to him too.
One day when i have my own daughter this will always be her lullaby song.
Give this song 100% because this is so emotional and wonderful for all the fathers and daughters.
Paul Simon accidentally wrote 2 songs for me, # 1 is Mother And Child Reunion , that's when I meet my mom in heaven , and this one for me to my daughters.
Thanks Paul.
I played this to my father when he was showing signs of Alzheimer's and dad cried and said that was our song, and it was our song I loved that wonderful man and I miss him so!
If I had a daughter I would totally sing this/introduce this song to her.
I feel sorry this lost at the 2003 Oscars.
+Sean “kermit t. dinofrog” Horace im not, lose yourself by eminem won, first and only rapper ever with an oscar. But the song is pretty nice, its calming.
alich, Eminem is not the only rapper with an Oscar, but I currently wish he was. The revolting and thoroughly talentless "It's Hard Out There for a Pimp" won a couple years after that, beating out two other songs that were actually good. When the idiots who made that disgraceful song gave their acceptance speech, I could understand maybe every fifth word they said.
to be honest, Lose Yourself is a fantastic song itself. Both are fantastic songs
Absolutely right.
I know right?
I lost my dad a year ago, I needed this, needed to cry again. This is so sweet. Thank you. It Makes me think of all the good memories he and I shared. That’s amazing.
Every little girl should remain that way in the eyes of a certain man and anyone can be a father but a real man will be a dad
Eric Scripture Amen, brother.
This is for my daughter who isn't born yet, or conceived even, but i'm sure she'll be around one day :)

Update bro? 🙃
This song touched me from the moment I heard it. My dad and I danced it at my wedding for the father daughter dance.
Now my dad is sick and I miss him. Listening to remember the feelings of joy from my childhood.
I love how everytime he sings _🎶There could never be a father who loved his daughter more than I love you🎶_ it shows clips of Nigel and Eliza 👨🍼👧💕
A bond between Father and Daughter is unmatched It is unbreakable !!!
My dad used to put this song on for me all the time as a kid. He passed away this month and all I wish for is to hug him one last time.
ah man i lost my dad last year when i was 16, so this really really hits me hard. i love paul simon and if my pops was still around for the future, i'd made this my dance with him at my wedding. :)
LeapLittleLionMan sorry for your loss
So very Very sorry for your loss, from one Dad who lost his @ 5 years old. I send you this with true feelings.

Not even to the chorus yet and crying already
Whenever I listen to this, I imagine that it's God singing to me telling me that He's still holding me in His mighty hands no matter how many times I disown Him or let Him down. Thank you, Paul
No matter how close you are with your dad, this song makes you feel like you had a dad that was there for you no matter what. I love my dad; even tho he sabotaged his life seemingly without a second thought about how it would affect me. He was still a good dad.
Same. ❤️🩹
This hits so much harder when you have a daughter. He's a such a special songwriter.
if this song doesn't make you feel anything you have no heart x
True......
@Paul Simon Hi Paul...... I didnt see you in J. Tshabalala's funeral.
Thank you for putting South Africa on the Map.
Graceland Album is still the best ever
I kind of feel like that, especially when I don't cry to a super sad song like this, people think I'm heartless or something or they think I'm super tough.
Played this at my daughter's PHd graduation party tonight and brought us to tears 😢
I love this movie and the song they bring back so many memories from my childhood. I love The Wild thornberrys and Paul Simon. Great combination of the two.
This makes me want to go hug my dad.
Never heard this before - my dad just called me and played it over the phone to me. Bawling my eyes out now. lol
Love my Dad. ❤️
My birth dad died when I was 6 to an overdose but left me in a mall at 3 with a sign stapled to my shirt saying “help I’m cute”. I was put in foster care and adopted. My adoptive dad never said he loved me until I was 15. And I’ve never felt the love shown in this song. I will make sure my future daughter has a father with this much love. If not I’ll find a way to make her feel the equal amount of love
My sister is using this for her wedding dance with our dad... Someone will need a mop because I'm gonna be in a puddle on the floor...
You're going to piss yourself?

My daughter and I danced to this song at her wedding and there wasn't a dry eyes in the house. Love the song and play it often to relive that wonderful moment.

So what happened???
Paul Simon=seriously underrated guitarist....
Paul Simon, what a gift you are to the world. Thank you for all the music you've given us to enjoy. This is one of my absolute favorites. May God continue to bless you!!!
One of his most beautiful songs. Amazing that he's still got it after all these years. Genius.
My daughter got married last week, this was our father daughter dance. Soooo beautiful. TY Paul for writing this.
I used to LOVE the wild thornberrys movie, and my dad would always INSIST on watching the credits over and over every time. I never understood- it was always just an end credits song to me. Now he's gone, and now I understand more than I can say.
I think Paul Simon’s a great guitarist and it’s amazing seeing the little girl he’s singing this song to as well.
What do you admire most about Paul
My husband had this song for his father and daughter dance at our daughters wedding in 2019. He had the best day at her wedding and was very much the proud father of the bride. He sadly passed away in October 2021 but had joyfully welcomed our first grandchild, Grayson into the world in July of that year. I am so glad he got to see his girl become a mum.
Most people think this song is out of place in this film. I may be wrong, but I disagree. Look at the theatrical poster. It shows Eliza and Nigel sitting next to each other watching the sun set. Plus Nigel inspired her to face her challenges. So this fits perfectly. Though I'm most likely to be wrong.
Exactly. It's fits absolutely perfectly.
I agree with Wow Wow, its perfect for the relationship with Eliza and Nigel
No you're not wrong at all it's a perfect fit
If there is anybody that thinks you're wrong... They are wrong.
People who also watched the show would have already been aware of how great a father Nigel is.
Absolute masterpiece. Thank you Paul.
RIP Kobe and Gianna 😢
Miss them so much... 😔

I remember when I heard this song when I first saw The Wild Thornberrys Movie as a kid. That was the first time a song had ever made me tear up.
Paul Simon. There can never be a father loves his daughter more than I love you
I'm not my dad's daughter but I come back to this song a lot. He's a priest and we're both nerds. Once he gave a sermon about this song and King Lear; and spent a good thirty minutes talking specifically about the phrasing of 'there could never be a father who loved his daughter more than I love you' and how there's an honesty in that which is abandoned in superlative declarations of love. It's not 'could never be a father who loved his daughter as much as I love you,' it's 'more than.' There's something true in simply saying 'as much love as there is in this world for me to give, I give to you.' Not claiming to love more fiercely than any love ever felt, which makes love a contest to be won against outsiders rather than a devotion to another, but saying 'I love you as much as I can,' and the real power in that kind of truth.
daddy and my song.
I get all sort of emotions when I play this.
🤍
Don't have this kind of relationship with my dad, but I do have a daughter and I am both her mother and father since her real father is a deadbeat... love this song.. reminds me of my Olivia
I love u mom !!!!!!!!!!!
My Dad just passed and I'm going through all of his particulars, including all of his old Kodachrome slides (and my grandmother's, too!). Having a Paul Simon listening party and it's bringing me the feels. Thanks.
I have one son, lost 1 during birth and have a daughter on the way, I truly believe children are a gift and it's our duty to make sure they become better people than we are. I'm so excited to do it all over again.
with all due respect to mr. simon, there is no father on planet earth who loves his daughter who loves me more than my daddy
I imagine that this beautiful track resonates with everyone who has the good fortune to. have. daughters
paul simon’s lyrics are beautiful. what a song writer he was / is.

I danced to this song with my daughter for her "Father/Daughter Dance" at her wedding 15 years ago ... Marvelous memory! ...
I'm getting married in 3 months and my daddy and I will dance to this song for our father daughter dance :') it's always been our song. I get choked up listening to it now, so Idk how I'm gonna make it through the day of. Lol
If I do get married someday, I want my father and I to dance to this as well.
My dad passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack, and he was the healthiest and most loving father/person. In the years since his death, I’ve been searching for answers. I’ve looked for him in nature, in life and yet struggle because there’s no sign of him.
However, just in the last couple days, I’ve felt him near. What’s more, this song which I had never heard until today came on the radio. This shocked me since I’m a Paul Simon fan. My dad was also a fan, and now I guess I’ll never know if he ever heard this song.
Love you Daddy. Your message is heard loud and clear. I know you’re still near, watching over us and someday we’ll see each other again.
With infinite love,
Your Daughter 🙏💜😞😢
Thank you Mr. Simon for writing such a beautiful song that has created a deeper bond with my own daughter.
Happy Fathers Day
This song makes me think about God and all the old memories I have with my earthly father as a little girl.. nostalgically beautiful 💫
