Thanks Barry , another great video 😊
2:27 that’s a complete waste of filo pastry and too expensive for most people to make these days with the rise in food costs and energy bills
In this world of rising food costs and energy bills you should do a playlist on cheep £5 meals for a family of 4 or a play list where you live on £20 a week .
I tried the coffee orange juice a while back on tiktok and honestly had a similar reaction to you Barry lol. its so odd that it somehow works lol. I love the idea of the filo pastry desert but due to gut issues my gut would not be happy if i tried it and same with the pasta unfortunately but I love these videos and seeing your reaction to these odd dishes and drinks.
Chocolate and orange works... So coffee should too. Maybe add cocoa too.
The dessert is essentially any middle eastern household recipe for a 'quick dessert' 😋❤️
That’s a lot of filo, isn’t it? 😮
That like burcus in Israel
@@caroleberreur9585 Even more sugar.
My mind is so used to the "3, 2, 1 videos" that I was so confued when you added a sauce to the pasta🤣
The "self-custarding crinkle dessert" is actually called Bougatsa, except you generally just make it in 3 layers (phyllo, custard, phyllo).
I was going to say the same thing. Filo and custard baked desserts have been a thing for generations.
Good tip: Pre grate your cheese and put in a bag in the freezer, Lasts forever, no need to defrost just sprinkle direct from the freezer.
At first glance I thought that was Kunafa. There are a lot of variations on Baklawa in the middle east using different custards and cheeses, and they come in so many shapes.
That filo custard thing looked amazing !! The idea popped into my head for a cheap vs steep video, sausage egg and homemade chips lol dunno if it would work lol
Good idea Lucy :)
Would definately be interesting :)
Phylo is so versatile.
That "pasta" looks and sounds really good! And also cheap, a good thing in these days.
Tia Maria with fresh orange juice was my drink of choice in the ‘80’s
You are the second person I have watched make a version of baklava. That is my favorite desert out of everything in the world. This must mean I have to make it myself. Me, a diabetic. Pray for me!! Lol!
Love baklava!
haha, my dad is diabetic but my mom is lebanese and frequents the nearby arabic pastry shop and always brings home baklava for him LOL
@@dizzybunnies Is she trying to kill him?
@@Bevity haha nah, his case is very mild thankfully and he only has like 1 or 2 pieces 😂
@@dizzybunnies I'm diabetic. I shouldn't eat it at all, but it is so good... I used to eat one at work sometimes. I shouldn't have though. It is as bad as candy.
Ciao Barry! The spinach pasta looks like an easier version of spätzle, a german recipe we also have here in Italy! Nice quick and possibly vegan version of it. The original has eggs in it. Thanks for trying all this crazy tik tok stuff. Love it.
I've always made that sort of pasta with spinach. Just prefer it like that. And then I fry it with onions and garlic in a pan and melt some cheese over it. I can only recommend it! ❤
The pasta looks delicious. Definitely going to make that one. Thanks for making my own food channel a better one 🧡
the most random sega megadrive reference ive ever heard , good job barry
You're welcome (or Genesis I think it was called in the US?!)
@@mrbarrylewis Yup, the Genesis was the US version.
Fantastic as always! I could imagine putting sultanas between the filo layers served with either evaporated milk or ice cream! 🙂 I might try the pasta rolled thin and sliced like tagliatelle and served with some chicken breast slices or something! Absolutely love your videos mate! Thank you!
I've never been this early before :O I'm so excited!
Cheers, welcome
13:49 Until this point I was very tempted to try it 😂
I think columns was a 'master system' game, rather than 'mega drive.' I know it came bundled with the hand-held 'game gear', but that's neither here nor there, some good looking cooking Mr Barry
The coffee and OJ would have a very similar flavour profile as the cocktail Terry's chocolate orange which is Kahlua and OJ and is seriously lush
Gosh I forgot that one used to make that combo years ago as a bartender in Greece
Barry: if you hate garlic
Me: who hates garlic barbarians?
I think people that don't like garlic tend to be the folks that walk into a room and smell it and go 'urgh garlic' lol then 2 mins later, eats garlic!
@@mrbarrylewis Like dogs and vampires, I'm allergic to garlic. It's a shameful life I lead.
I already have spinach and ricotta pasta when I can get it, so that one would suit me.
This is only a suggestion and I have never made this, but as a seasonal twist to the gnocchi could it be made with pumpkin or other squashes, puréed and mixed with flour, maybe with some seasonal spice’s (nutmeg or cinnamon) formed into balls and sauced with molten butter with roasted and chopped pumpkin seeds poured over the top.
The bitterness of the coffee is a byproduct of darker roasts, there is however a trend in recent years for very bright roasts.
Those have almost no bitterness in it but in exchange have a lot acidity going on.
One of these Roasts would probably work quite well with the OJ.
Bitterness in coffee often comes from pre ground coffee and the water being too hot.
The espresso and OJ is a winner. I tried it after seeing it on a FB reel and fell in love with it.
It's a bit marmite but if you like it your gunna love it
My parents just came back from London, couldn’t see B2TF Musical but got me a r-shirt 😊
The filo dessert looked amazing I’m going to have a go at that one.
Was great to hear you mention Columns on the Mega Drive 👍 that was one game I used to play with my mum as a kid.
Yeah, starch has been used as wallpaper paste. I have used it when fixing the wallpaper of a museum building.
I saw back to the future at the theatre. Loved it.
Do love these. Love to see the Pug. The cutest. First Comment lol.
" The best part of waking up is orange juice in your coffee..... yuck" lol 😆 🙃
Yay nearly first. Better I am 13th!!! I love these videos, because you have to taste pretty scary things. and you are open and honest. It's great and your enthusiasm is hard to resist.
Thanks, gotta be honest!
Congrats, Barry! You've made spinach gnocchi! I know it's a trendy Tik Tok recipe but Italians have been doing this forever ...
Whose finger comes into frame on the right hand side when Barry adjust the camera on the left hand side almost at the same time at @15:55
I have been drinking Tia Maria and orange juice for years.... Tastes like a Terry's chocolate orange!
Never been this early for a video before! Hey Barry, I hope you and the girls are doing amazing!
3:41 2 teaspoons?! How huge are your teaspoons haha, surprised that much cinnamon didn’t make you choke
9 seconds since upload haha, never tried that before
Barry ive watched your uploads for a while. im lunching my own recipe website soon and would love you to try them out.
Crinkle looks like it is fun to make.
I'm an old boy and reduced potato water or flour paste were used to back our exercise books with leftover wallpaper, or brown paper.
My anxiety had me yelling "close the oven door Barry"
I have Jamie Oliver made a version of this pasta during the pandemic..he made those a bean shapes. You can add yeast and make a pizza or bread from it! 😊
The drink is also known as a Mexican Sunrise. If it was prepared properly, it actually would look like a sunrise. The way you do this, smaller glass, ice and half filled with orange juice (the sun). Pull ONE double shot of espresso. Place a spoon upside down over top of the glass and pour the espresso on the spoon. This creates a dark layer over top of the juice (the night sky over the sun).
The taste, when done right, should be that of Grapefruit. If it is too bitter, you did it wrong.
You are the Steve Irwin of the food world!!! Love your videos !
In this world of rising food costs and energy bills you should do a playlist on cheep £5 meals for a family of 4 or a play list where you live on £20 a week .
They look like Frankenstein's monsters fingers. 🤣🤣
Orange Joe!
Columns is also on the Sega Game Gear and PDA. Good game.
I see that as a light baklava replacement
Yes!
Starch was used as a wallpaper paste as late as 1930s in Britain. But it caused many problems such as cockroaches.
If only academia had peer-reviewers like this
Throw a shot of vodka into the OJspresso and you’d have a delightful cocktail.
It is true that starch was used as glue in the past. It was used anywhere from wallpaper to bookbinding to wood glue
For a adult version of the drink use tia Maria and fresh orange juice
Basically a custard baklava
that pasta looks like Mama's Specilaite de la maison. from the addams family.
It's true about starch it's called wheat paste you can use starch and water as an adhesive
Is this real or fake? @barrylewis?
I'd love to see you try different vegetables to make the pasta with. How about beetroot? Massively underrated, we just eat it like any other boiled veg :)
I LOOOVE beetroot, massively underrated, as you said, I will legit put beetroot into EVERYTHING, plus it makes everything pink!!
Traditionally corn starch was used as glue for wallpapering and paper machet
Pasta tends to be less bland when you actually put salt in it and the boiling water.
The pasta reminds me of aloe Vera cut up!!!!
"NEW TIK TOK RECIPE!"
Proceeds to make baklava with extra steps...
FunFACT: You can use the Orange Juice and coffee to develop any colour photographic film you have laying around!
Teenage mutant ninja turtle toes just made me snort coffee out mah nose 🤪
5:19 did you actually turn it? Didn't see it.
First i thought he meant pasta WITH spinach and was like, what? Why is this uncommon? I eat this a lot, it's super yummy. But then i saw that he meant Fresh pasta made with spinach.
But even this i know a long time, my supermarkt here where i live sells these and other sorts of pasta.
When are the 3,2,1 videos getting back?
Make clear potato chips
02:10 👀
LOL!
@@mrbarrylewis Family friendly conteeeent!
Is it just me or did you forget to include any footage of the custard making process?
These Tik Tok recipes are just existing dishes given new names. The filo cake is just bougatsa. The green pasta is just pasta verde. The OJ and coffee drink is just nasty.
Love to see you bake :) you are one of my favorite channels! Let’s keep sharing to each other 💪😀
I have that same blender... it's brilliant....really cheap but works great.
Yes starch was used as paste.
Orange juice espresso...NO.....just NO.
NoNoNoNoNo.
Definitely not.
I once put OJ into Pepsi, don't do it, it's wrong... :P
The first one, with the phyllo dough, reminds me of changing my furnace filter, probably tastes better though
So looking past Barry being such a good guy and trying to put a positive spin on everything, we've got a custard recipe with no custard, a pasta recipe with pointless pasta, and just outright filth. Sounds about right for tick tock.
The crinkle cake thing is basically a reverse Pasteis de Natas
The first on looks like baklava
Barry cooking pasta slugs😢
That was more like 3 tablespoons of cinnamon not 2 teaspoons lol
It’s pronounced nyo-key not nock-y
Give up with the "Seal" thing already.
Stop looking at yourself and look at us..your audience. Your eyeline is wrong
I got excited the pasta was going to be gluten free… nope there goes the flour 😢
15:46 to hear the call of the rare Barry bird
😄😄😄
Emmymade did this video awhile ago I think you need a deeper pan but who knows I guess we will see lol
I believe one reached out to me. Requested contact on Telegram.
For the coffee and orange juice you should have referenced Morgandrinkscoffee .
I have no idea what that is sorry
@@mrbarrylewis another youtube channel. She works exclusively with coffee
Metapod pasta
TikTok recipes where they think they have discovered something new - where in reality most people have heard of these recipes - esp the Spinach Pasta - seriously how do they get so many views. I should do one about boiling an egg lol
haha yeah I hear you Mark, there are quite a few ones like that, I try to find the quirkier ones, but some folks obviosuly didn't know it was a thing. I feel the dessert was a lot like a baklava in some ways too, but was quirky that's for sure.
Everyone learns something new every day and as long as its somthing correct and good it might as well be through tiktok? I guess?
@@mrbarrylewis I agree with you Barry, the Pudding was different and a alternative. Iol. I do agree you do tend to find interesting recipes of that platform which are realistic for other to use without using Heston B Wizardry lol. I just recovering from being ill in hospital and a little grumpy lol..
I saw a good one about making a pot noodle
@@DimT670 my main complaint is "new" things pop up and they're usually from someone's culture that goes completely unacknowledged while the item trends under a false name. So we'll see some recipe for "pancake burritos" or something, and only if you take the time to do your own research do you find out it's a fairly old recipe from Finland or something. If we're going to share these recipes, we should be acknowledging the cultures they come from too.
It’s true about the flour and water as wallpaper paste. I remember it being used.
When I was at school in the 70's we used flour and water paste with newspaper to make papier mache art projects. I made a moonscape for my space action figures....
My mum would use cornstarch if she ran out of normal glue
That coffee OJ combo sounds vile. Adding in recently brushed teeth and it could ruin your day. Blech.
2:27 that’s a complete waste of filo pastry and too expensive for most people to make these days with the rise in food costs and energy bills
Just sayin, i swear by OJ + espresso 😂
Really, surely there's a story here?! Once it settled I really disliked it, but I will say it was quite refreshing!
@@mrbarrylewis check my comment Barry…if prepared correctly, it is delicious.
baCLAva? baCLAva?! BAC la VA
Who doesn't love "knocky"? 😉
The orange juice espresso drink has given me flash backs to being 18 and drinking Tia Maria and orange juice in the late 90s early 2000s. I thought it was a fancy cocktail. Oh to be young and dumb.
Have you been drinking?
Well, not orange espresso lol
If you want a better version of your beverage, mix orange juice and kahlua. Tastes like a tootsie roll.
