As far as the glass, it is accurate. This is ballistic glass and is at least 3 inches thick, that is why the door windows are like shelves. I built them and was a test driver there. The armor on the gunners cupola is about 1/2 in thick. I retired after 40 years working at AM General building everything from M-151 jeeps to M-20 twenty ton dumps along with mail delivery vehicles and city buses. I am also a veteran, a tank commander. I like your video, keep up the good work!
I really like and appreciate your break down of the colors you used and where you used them. I've learned a lot from your videos. Thanks, cant wait for the new video
Nice job! I do agree with the guys about the front shield glass not being a flaw in the kit... it's not thick glass, you're supposed to mask off the front glass part and paint the sides with the body color to represent a protruding frame around the glass... many manufacturers do it this way these days, with the whole part done in clear plastic, then you have to mask off the glass parts and paint the rest with the body color... but of course, it'e your kit and you build it whatever way you see fit :)
You're welcome. This is a hobby and you should treat as such. As with any hobby, the more you enjoy it, the better you get at it. I'm sure you will in time, you will builder the bigger kits you want. Have a great day!
Regarding the out of scale armored bullet proof glass on the Academy kit, have you considered replacing it with thin & clear plastic sheet instead? Cant wait to see your next project on UA-cam!
I'm glad you are back Qdc. I just went out and got this kit. I might put my own spin on the same diorama you just did. I love yours. It will look great in my own collection. I might put my own build on here. In any case, you still inspire me to build. I'm glad you found time outside of your real life to entertain us plastic nerds. ; ). Please keep up the good work buddy. By the way, I know you buy all of your kits and supplies. Have you ever considered sponsors or reviews? I'd imagine some companies would ship a kit of two to you just for the advertisement. I also imagine people would like to see a kit that has sat on their a shelf for ages, built just for the videos you produce. I'd love to see your expenses drop completely off so you could get some sort of benefit from you work. I'd love to see you get it all for free.
Very nice build! I spent some time in the gunners hatch. But most of my time in the gunners hatch in the MRAP. Surviving 2 IED's, but with injuries. In Mosul Iraq. With the 1st Cavalry Division. Love your videos. And take care!
Amazing kit, awesome paint job as well! It's amazing how time flies. I've been watching your videos for about 4 or so years now. At the moment I've put modeling aside and pursued my dream of joining the United States marine corps. Shipment date June 4th 2018,2 weeks after I graduate highschool. Your airplane and fighter jet models inspired me the most a while back, how fitting is it for me to be going in as an aviation mechanic. Can't wait to pursue modeling later in life and knock out these kits like you do.
Thanks for sharing that personal message on UA-cam! It's cool that you are enlisting to the Marine Corps right after you graduate. Congratulations on your high school diploma and on your new adventure into the Marine Corps. I have many friends that served in the Marines. I have an old friend who served in the Vietnam War as a Marine and after all these years he still says "semper fi" to all of his Marine Corps buddies. I don't know you but it seems being a aviation mechanic is a dream come true for you. Take care and have a wonderful day!
First off, great job! Suggestions: 1) Try scratchbuilding the bulletproof glass w/ sheet plastic, or transparent polymers from stuff like soap bottles. 2) try weathering the tires with pastels. Think dust, NOT mud. (5 tours, two each Kuwait and Afghanistan, one Iraq)
Great conclusion to the project. All the components came together wonderfully. Action packed diorama That captures the crazy atmosphere of urban combat. Well done. Bill
I like the painting of the figures. I remember on your last Diorama the D-Day one, you had trouble with shading, but the expressions on the face have come alive because of they way you painted them. 10 out of 10 sir. Would love to see a video of you collection.
Once I went with my mom to the local liquor store and there was HUMVEE in the parking lot and I got out and looked at it, soon after the guy came back and let me inside while my mom took pictures. It was pretty cool.
Great job on the building and painting of this model and diorama. You have really brought it to life in this scene and it looks really great and realistic too. Well done and have fun on your next project, Joe
great work q, with my humvee I agree with your armoured glass, but on mine I painted the edges of the glass black as a lot of the humvee armoured glass had like a rubber around the glass , a lot of the tusk abrams had black rubber around the gunners and commanders armoured glass to stop heads been injured if the crew banged them on the sides. fantastic brill job my friend .
nice job.. check out the pic of the humvee , the glass is the correct thickness, in the front of the turret, you just have to paint the tan frame around it . it will look correct then. Looking forward to your next build !
The Humvee you saw was back here in the States; they may have stripped the heavy armor glass used in front line service and kept it for use as spares / replacement over there. Think about it, to give a similar amount of protection which would have to be thinner or thicker, a heavy armor "steal" plate or a piece of armored "glass"? I'm sure one of the Army guys here can tell you better than I can. I like that you used the multi-toned shadow-highlight effect. It's one I myself prefer. Nice work!!!
Yes, if you look at the glass on the door, it has an additional frame you put on top of the glass. Did the kit not have this on the turret as well? It should have. Not knocking your thought by any means Mr. QDC, you did a wonderful job on the HMMWV. Having driven the 1151 in combat, the glass is the model is roughly correct compared to the steel on the turret. Maybe the kit doesn’t come with the outer window frame. In that case it would be an Academy engineering miss. Still looks great though. Great job.
The one in your tour video was the one we were promised but not received, instead we had 1151's that were a generation behind that one. We had the padding that one had but never got the upgraded AC or other refinements. most of our turrets had failed so they put old 998 turrets on them because the 1151's had a flaw that locked them up when you fired a belt fed, the brass would fall in between the halves and hard lock it because of the weight. it also would drain your batteries quickly so you had to keep everything off when at idle. the dukes system antenna is wrong too. Fenders dont bend, they break, I had to destroy one that had been blown up, we pulled the electronics, Thermo'd it and pushed it off the side of the mountain, of course it caused a massive fire but it was in a really bad neighborhood in Afghanistan near the border so we left it (Needed to reopen the route) it was field expediant but worked. ALSO STOP PUTTING MUD FLAPS ON 1151'S The glass is that thick on the turret but you are missing the bezels.
The fact that it seems like the soldier helping the wounded soldier up could be shot by the insurgent in the background any second seems kind of sad. Great build though!
Nice build Qdc. I bought this kit just because of this video. I think it will be my next build. MB came out with a WW2 tank rider kit I'd love to see you build. The figures are fantastic! I'm willing to bet you'll love them as much as I did. I'd love to show them to you some time.
Great job , I'm an old schooler , meaning I don't spray the problem I have is windows I mess them up every time, fingerprints, glue marks, how can I resolve this problem.
Excellent work of painting I really like the tones you used and as a tip for the glass of the turret you can use a sheet of transparent acetate and you can cut it for the windows, you can also use the transparent part of the cases from de cds is thinner That the plastic pieces that comes in the kit have a nice day Q!
QDC, you are truly inspirational. You are the one who got me into this incredible hobby, and I found the story of the diorama powerful. I would love to know, what was your inspiration for building this? Much respect, IY.
Thanks. That's a good question. I like art and I learned some things about the great painters of the world. The best paintings in the world has something to say to the viewer. I use those basic principals in my diorama. This is a hobby as I treat it as such. I'm glad you like my videos and I'm flattered. Take care and have a great day!

Turret glass is much thicker than the steel. I rode up there on many missions and had several strikes on the glass. The reason it doesnt look right is that you need to paint the frames around the glass that hold it in.
Having watched most of your videos, and your claim not being an expert, in my opinion you're pretty darn close! Plus, you make your videos seem like I'm there with you in your work room as you built them. Continue!
In my opinion the bricks and the destroyed wall don't blend in with the composition all the bricks looked intact after an impact some would definitely be crushed and a lot of pieces would cover the road not only whole bricks. Also some more dust would make it blend in even more as for the figures I think the skincolour is way to yellowish but I can't judge it by the photos cause pictures often change the colors depicted in real life. Constructive criticism :) I am no pro myself good luck with the next video and thanks for encouraging us to start our own modeling career.

You're welcome.
It is our privilege to observe your excellent work! Thank you again for this series.
You're very welcome my friend :)
You remind me of Mr. Rogers of the modeling world. Very enjoyable build to watch. Thanks
You're welcome. People tell me I am the Bob Ross of model kits too. If you don't know who is Bob Ross, follow this link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Ross
These videos have inspired me to start model kit building. I hope i can build bigger kits in the future

Thanks for your kind words. I honestly appreciate them.
Regarding the out of scale armored bullet proof glass on the Academy kit, have you considered replacing it with thin & clear plastic sheet instead? Cant wait to see your next project on UA-cam!
Amazing work! Having been an American Soldier, I particularly like this one. It was a pleasure to follow your builds.
You're welcome. This was a fun challenge.
"It was a pleasure to follow your builds." Ditto to that!
Thank you for your service!
mrtonyadkins the honor was all mine.
Damon Bruce Thank You for your service sir! 🇺🇸
I really love what you did with the diorama. It looks very realistic and you did a great job.
Thank you :)
Yes I do. Loved watching him paint too. I am glad you have a sense of humor. Keep up the fantastic work. I learned a lot from you.

Yes! Finally a new video from qdc. Fantastic paint job by the way.
Thanks
great model I'll look this one up as it looks great and I'd like to build it, great paint work.
Thanks 😃
I'm glad you are back Qdc. I just went out and got this kit. I might put my own spin on the same diorama you just did. I love yours. It will look great in my own collection. Really enjoyed the vid Colin. Always a big fan of modern armour so especially liked this dio.

Very good!!! It looks great!!
good to see you back
:)
Thanks for building this kit as I've been looking for ANY Humvee that has the option of all 4 doors open.
Great conclusion to the project. All the components came together wonderfully. Action packed diorama That captures the crazy atmosphere of urban combat. Well done. Bill
Thanks Bill. I haven't heard from you in a while. It's great to hear from you again.
P.S. Awesome job on all your builds, big fan of the desert stuff.
I like the painting of the figures. I remember on your last Diorama the D-Day one, you had trouble with shading, but the expressions on the face have come alive because of they way you painted them. 10 out of 10 sir. Would love to see a video of you collection.

Great work sir!

Outstanding diorama my friend! The shades on the Humvee are looking good and the concept is interesting. Greetings from Mexico
You are welcome and thank you my friend :)
The glass is actually pretty realistic to the actual thing
I loved the way you painted the vehicle , the light and dark shading is excellent. the diorama is superb . well done qdc 👍
Thank you very much :)

Very nice, the paint job on the Hummer is spectacular 👍👍👍I'm just about to build the same figures, was helpful to see them done, thank you
You're welcome.
Great job on the building and painting of this model and diorama. You have really brought it to life in this scene and it looks really great and realistic too.

Thanks. I will.
Looks great!
Thanks :)
Yayyy, I've been so hyped for this, so happy it's here!!!
You're welcome :) I'm working on my next model this week :)

Great work QDC as always a very nice job with the paint work on the kit. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your kind words :)
It's been such a long time since I've seen your videos, feels great to hear your voice again.
:)
Nice work dude...
Thanks
kevin cahill £
Cool keep up the good work
The hummer looks good. I think the whole diorama needs some weathering with pigments though, but great job!😊😊
Thanks :)
qdc748a You should build a battleship for your next build like the Yamato or an american battleship love your videos too.
just notice you disabled comments on vids, why all your stuff is great and you r a great professional and gentleman more than most!!
I had an awful time trying to answer every message over the years. Now I just leave it be.
I've been waiting for you to post a video for weeks man!! love the stuff you do, keep it up 🖒🖒🖒🖒😁😁
Thanks
nice job.. check out the pic of the humvee , the glass is the correct thickness, in the front of the turret, you just have to paint the tan frame around it . it will look correct then. Looking forward to your next build !
I guess there are many sizes of glass for the HUMVEE. I saw a real one and it was not that thick. Thanks. :)
I was thinking the same thing after looking at that video, and seeing that the model panes have inscribed lines to delineate the frame.
100% A! Glass is correct thickness.. just paint the frame. well spotted! good build QDC! well done!
ALSO STOP PUTTING MUD FLAPS ON 1151'S
The glass is that thick on the turret but you are missing the bezels.
Seemed like a dragon kit with all the details?😳 evergreen/plastruct makes clear acetate
in different thicknesses!
Jman👀
Thanks for the tip :)
As is typical of your work my friend... SWEET!!!
The fact that it seems like the soldier helping the wounded soldier up could be shot by the insurgent in the background any second seems kind of sad. Great build though!
Being a soldier is not an easy job.
Nice build Qdc. I bought this kit just because of this video. I think it will be my next build. MB came out with a WW2 tank rider kit I'd love to see you build. The figures are fantastic! I'm willing to bet you'll love them as much as I did. I'd love to show them to you some time.
Fender bender? I kinda think they get shot at or blown up. Your model came out great by the way.
Thanks 😃
great job qdc I love it
Thanks.
Great job 👍 This diorama is amazing!!
Best regards from Sweden
Thank you for your kind words :)
Great work mate!
keep it up!
Thanks
Thanks
Actually, the glass on the turret was very thick, but the turret shield is upside-down. I was the turret gunner in a 1151 btw
Thank you for your nice movie! How about the length and width of this model M1151 after assembling ?
Great job , I'm an old schooler , meaning I don't spray the problem I have is windows I mess them up every time, fingerprints, glue marks, how can I resolve this problem.
Try white glue, the ones that children use. It's also called PVA glue. That what I used on this project.
as i live in Iraq
u shoudl do more dusty humve and more dust on diorama to be very realistic
Excellent work of painting I really like the tones you used and as a tip for the glass of the turret you can use a sheet of transparent acetate and you can cut it for the windows, you can also use the transparent part of the cases from de cds is thinner That the plastic pieces that comes in the kit have a nice day Q!
Thanks for the advice :)
QDC, you are truly inspirational. You are the one who got me into this incredible hobby, and I found the story of the diorama powerful. I would love to know, what was your inspiration for building this? Much respect, IY.

You're welcome. I do have a life outside of the model kit building world. Take care :)
Thanks mate! Take care too
Vehicles in the desert are generally hosed down or washed a couple days out of the week, depending on use....to include aircraft. When I was in Africa as well as other sorted deserts, we maintained our vehicles kinda like our lives depended on them.
best youtuber
Looks like this is a really nice Kit "Q".
Thanks.
Tip for mirrors: use gloss black and then use polished aluminium(Alclad)(DO NOT USE CLEAR COAT)
Thanks for the tips
Hey, qdc. Something for you to look at is the shade paints from citadel/games workshop, I would use reikland flesh shade for the fleshtones, and agrax earthshade for the uniforms creases, I guess it is something for you to check out.
Thanks I'll look into it. I normally like to make my own paints but I will take a look into it. Thanks :)
Good job... I like it :)
You're welcome.
Fantastic work Colin! It's frustrating about that armoured glass thickness issue though... I wonder if any aftermarket manufacturers have or will address that issue?? Looking forward to seeing your next project :-)
I could have cut a thin clear plastic.
Great Job on the Humvee Colin. Too bad on the turret Glass thou. Ialways wanted to build a Humvee, too many options out there to pick from.
It's a good kit. You might want to try it.
Does anybody knows what's the music during the lights and shadows explanation ? Nice work btw !
Awesome!
Thanks.
awesome~!
:)
Amazing work Qdc! Wanna hear a coincidence? I happened to be at that same airshow. The one at Travis AFB. I was there both days. I think I might have seen you! Anyways, nice diorama and a nice airshow. Keep up the good work!
That's cool! The next time you see me, introduce yourself and say hi. I don't bite :)
Wonderful work! But can your cat make some more cameo appearances too?
Sure. :)
the glass is right you just have to paint´the sidse of the glass, but very nice paintjob and build
Ok
Hey qdc, I am from Bulgaria and me and a whole bunch of people love your videos. You can make Zvezda's T 80 or you can challenge yourself and build Zvezda' s Il 76 whitch is a transport aircraft.
I might build one this year.
looks excellent david
Thanks
best youtuber 👍👍
Thank you for your kind words.
I used clear thin lexan for the turret windows. Use the kit glass for a template.
Good idea, I'll do that on my next project if it call for it. Thanks.
How much soldiers does it come with
What airbrush do you use?
The level of thickness of glass depends on the humvees purpose some are thick some are thin
Turret glass is much thicker than the steel. I rode up there on many missions and had several strikes on the glass.
Use logic...if glass is more fragile than steel and both are required to stop the same threat. Which needs to be thicker?
The reason it doesnt look right is that you need to paint the frames around the glass that hold it in.
Having watched most of your videos, and your claim not being an expert, in my opinion you're pretty darn close! Plus, you make your videos seem like I'm there with you in your work room as you built them. Continue!
You need to make one with several dead insurgents because that is what would be the outcome after this.
Хорошая работа
You are welcome.
