Hey, I'm an Iraq Vet, (OIF 06-07), in Ramadi. I drove both this, and the M 1117 ASV. Seeing your final results really took me to a melancholy place! I might recommend, as a further dive into realism, take some random parts, on the main Hummvee body, and paint them your green mix. Paint a random wheel, headlight cover, hoodlocks, whatever some random parts that were replaced between missions. But, good job, regardless, and thank you!
I haven't built models since being a kid in the early 70's ...Holy Moly has the hobby progressed! It used to be Testors tube glue and paint bottles/bushes! Fantastic models- blown away!
Im a long time model railroader, but have been watching your videos for awhile now. We go to a military hobby shop for paint etc. Well yesterday I took the plunge. I bought the 1/35 Takom King Tiger with the full interior. I have bookmarked the 3 part video you did on this build and will refer to it through the build. Thanks for doing these videos, they are very informative
i know im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost the password. I love any assistance you can offer me!
@Adriel Marley Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Another great build Andy! I fully agree with what you have said several times about how this is for fun and while we try to build for some degree of accuracy depending on one' s tastes it is still for fun. I see a lot of guys go too heavy on making sand colored vehicles look weathered where the desert sand color almost appears brown because they go so heavy with washes. You avoided that misstep and yours came out spot on man! As an OEF veteran who spent a lot of time driving M998's and M1114's in country I love seeing subjects like this built, especially when they are done this well! Great work!
one small detail to point out, the small areas on the hood where the sing load hooks stick out are black rubber. Great build as usual cant wait till im settled in my new place so I can get back to building
Im gonna need to get this kit, thinking of doing a paint scheme of the Kurdish Peshmerga and try to find a good quality 1/35th DSHK to mount instead of the M2
@@AndysHobbyHeadquarters Ducati121 is correct, Andy. Also, the reinforcing plate between the roof & door pillar should be a single piece, not 2 pieces, as the kit depicts. To do this 100% correctly requires either minor scratch building, or Academy molding a seperate piece. And, c'mon, Andy! All that work to slap some silver paint on the mirrors? You don't have bare-metal-foil? Well, it's not like you're gonna enter it at AMPS, right?.... Hey, good job, Andy, and my so-far single order from you guys was EXCELLENT price & service, - Takom M-60, w ERA.... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK....
Drove a few of these over there before moving on to bigger things. Liked the vid need to add a rhino. We got assigned MRAPs at one point but I always felt safer in the 11 better controls and response. I still have my 1151 data plate. The truck took three blasts head on and kept ticking. end of tour I took the data plate, she was slotted to be handed to the Iraqis. Thank you for doing a vid on this machine.
Just one tiny note, you can see out of the front and sides, you have dusty tires but the front windows are not two pie slices in the dirt made by the wipers, also that interior is practically factory. Great build lots of fun to watch.
Great job Andy! One thing about the bullet-proof glass...it normally has a sort of green tinge to it. I usually mix Tamiya Clear Green about 50-50 with a little bit of Future; but that's just me. Not trying to bust your stones! I wish my kits turned out half as good as yours!
I'm really liking academy's models . at the moment I'm doing the tiger 1, 1/35 early production , with full interior , lot's of part's super detailed , and incredibly cheap .
Really cool looking Humvee Andy. I've been tempted to get this kit a couple times but have always held off. This vid may have just convinced me to add it to the ever growing collection. Cheers!
Great build Andy, you did a great job building, painting and weathering this wonderful kit from Academy. I hope that you and your friends and family have a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Keep up the great work and have fun, Joe
Same humvee I served in as a gunner in Iraq 07-08 OEF-OIF, can't find one online here in NC, my TC, had white dice above the MTS console between him and or driver, be nice to find a kit like that one. Nice job! 😀
@ Andy. I was a Bradly mechanic in the Army for 15 yrs. But of course I worked on everything in the motorpool. If you ever need help with something or confused with what something is. Feel free to message me and I will do my best to explain things. Thank you for the video man.
This type of hobby is all alien technology for me. I happen to come across a few of these models on eBay and I couldn’t figure out the $230+ price tag. 😳 I’ll be honest I was expecting it to be at least made out of steel. I understand the level of detail but Holy cow. $200+ for less than a pound of plastic... they aren’t even that big either Edit: My bad the ones I saw first on eBay were some really fancy top notch award winning models that apparently come already painted and all the ultra details. 😂 the one in the video I just saw them for $20! just ordered one and I’ll be hopefully following your guide!
Andy as always a Great Build! You are getting me back into Modeling Armor and soft Skins again. Maybe I should take a break from model Railroading? Hummm will have to think about that one..........
Excellent video Andy! I like this one a lot. I think you might have been okay to dust it at the end cause it would have made the glass look like they were a little dusty. Going down those sand and dirt roads I bet they are not clean. Great video though! I just ordered the kit. Thanks and I look forward to the next video as always!!
FYI, my Son was in Iraq in 07-08 w/101st. Their vehicles started out new and no one ever took the BLACK vinyl shipping covers off the seats in any vehicle. That kept the fabric from being destroyed by sand and it was easier to slide in/out. All their vehicles with fabric seats were left like this. Also, the step up for the gunner between the front seats usually had a couple of .50 cal ammo cans on it for easy access. As far as I know, no one makes a usable version of the cool harness the gunner wore.. or the quick release that was used on newbies to drop them inside.......
Just so you know, All 1151's I have ever signed for had OD Green interiors with Tan Exteriors, they did not EVER Paint the interiors Tan, it was impossible because they would have had to mask all the ground points and all the guages off, it was so time prohibitive that it was never done. In Afghanistan, the ANA had Green Vehicles sometimes but usually not the 1151's Mudflaps were also not used, they were required for ONLY stateside vehicles, some European vehicles used them too but not the 1151's the antenna for the DUKES system is wrong too, ours all looked like a wiffle ball bat that was stepped on, like a cricket bat.
I have been looking for one of these for a while to replicate my senior scout truck when I was in the service, but I can not find one with no crows nest, and with an LRAS attached. Have any ideas on how I can find a kit to build my service truck?
One question about the color ratio. What was the color ratio between Buff and desert yellow that you used? Was it a 1 part buff, 1 part desert yellow and 1 part thinner?
Is the Rhino Airlift Bumper correct on this model? It seems like it is sticking out way to far. On mine it lowers down to part of the bumper then locks on.
Wonder if the doors are operating? Lots of details that can't be seen, looks good though! Used to build and test drive them. Noticed a few details not right, but minor. Needs a better air cleaner cap assembly, a desert style that stands much taller, that one is a standard version.
i don't want to be a critic but when i was deployed for oif all the 1151's we had were solid desert tan inside and out no black on the vehicle at all.... that said great model looks like a fun kit
I love your videos. I wish you would put the model #s or a link to the kits in your description so we could buy them. After i see your videos I want to buy the kits almost immediately at times. You get me that psyched to build them. :)
i can't find one of these anywhere and when i do find on they don't ship to the uk can you recommend me some websites please because i would really love to do one of these.
I remember one model of the M998 back in the 80s that felt like the parts were made in different factories and the seams looks like russian tank turrets.

This was very therapeutic to watch lol it feels great how a model comes to life, such a satisfying feeling
never had the tamiya glue hold like that unreal BEAUTIFUL DONE MODEL
Great work! Only thing I saw missing was the broken door gaskets that are always dangling out of the door on every Humvee I've seen xD
More like the gasket hanging out from under the rear hatch
i know im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..?

Truly amazing work, dont think i have the patience for that however i make 3D models for a living, keep up the good work and models.
Great job! Thanks a lot! I have 2 of these to build so now I'll dig them out!
Thank you , I was very impressed with the quality of the kit have fun.

Nice model Andy i also have the same model yours and it took me 2 days to finish
Good job as usual. At 18:49 into the video you have a book open, behind the model, showing some wheels and tires, what is that book?
the vallejo weathering book

Hi your Humvee looks like a Frag 5. A bit like the ones I worked on in Kuwait
Any recommendations on spray paint color for this? Ak sand yellow for example?
Andy where did you get the poly parts for inside the wheels? Do they come with the kit or did you glue the wheels on so they can’t roll?
Thanks! I am working on a Battle of Washington D.C. in a fictional Russo-American war set in 2024
plz make vid of that it would be cool
also 2 late
why did you have to do that? I feel like you are going to jinx it...
Before you weather it and apply the clear coat, what are you using for the clear coat? I'm new to this
next video..can you please do a shop tour?
shop tour would be awesome. it looks really nice.

GreatJob, In Tamiya acrylics what colors and mixture do you use to get the U S desert color?
Thank you for your movie, how about the dimension of this kit after assembling, thx
One question about the color ratio. What was the color ratio between Buff and desert yellow that you used? Was it a 1 part buff, 1 part desert yellow and 1 part thinner?
For like a holiday or something you should make a massive diorama
yeah, not so huge but like decent big with modern armor patrolling in the middle east or something
Would this kit be suitable for a beginner scale builder? My only past experience with scale was building a 1/10 scale sakura D5 drift RC car
Where did you get those locking tweezers?!
Is the Rhino Airlift Bumper correct on this model?
It seems like it is sticking out way to far. On mine it lowers down to part of the bumper then locks on.
Thank you. Brazilian hugs.
Again Andy a great video.
Thank you
What's the best glue for sticking the windows in place?
The safe way is to use PVA-glue like Micro Cristal Clear, but if you are carefull you can use Tamiya Extra Thin
Wonder if the doors are operating? Lots of details that can't be seen, looks good though! Used to build and test drive them. Noticed a few details not right, but minor. Needs a better air cleaner cap assembly, a desert style that stands much taller, that one is a standard version.
What brand are those locking tweezers around the 4 min mark please? Look like they are good quality
Andy how would you paint the inside without an airbrush
Candywarrior Gaming with a normal brush and masking tape
Tom Dunphy what does masking tape for?
How did you paint the dash and interior afterwards?
I didn't glue the top down right away
NM, i watched the end, gotcha.
Hi Andy
What psi do you use spraying tamiya paint
I usually do 25 psi but vallejo i shot at 18
what mixture of xf57 and xf59 do you use for the paint?
so the kit has radios but no antennae? I see the MTS/BF unit on the back and the warlock but no regular antennae. Did the kit come with any?
Great job! Looks super!
