    Carry on!! A trapline if not producing starts to prey on your mind. A positive attitude and a devotion to the line gets you through the season. You have both my friend. Many a time, I have gone a few days to a week without producing any fur. It’s time out in the Bush and nature that keeps me going after all these years. Glad to see you are walking the line this time. My lines have gotten shorter with age, but like you, I am out there in all sorts of weather getting the job done. It’s a love of the sport that keeps us going. Again, carry on!! Thanks for sharing Peace¥

    You are consistent and persistent. That will get results. If it was easy everyone could do it.
    Keep the positive mindset.

    Hope those Wolves come back for you. I'm dealing with the same thing now. Saw tracks on the south line and they killed a deer on the lake. Now it's been well over a month and they haven't been back. Good luck Brother

    I am not a trapper, but recall reading years ago that because the wolves require a large territory and they are almost always on the move, that in his region they had a 5 day periodicity. He would see fresh sign about every 5 days, meaning they worked a loop through their territory, coming back around at more or less regular intervals. Habitat is different today, but I would expect a large predator group to have to have some sort of loop arrangement to avoid running out of food.

    Our wolves hate flagging. We put that up to steer them off the trail but maybe it’s different where you’re at

    It’ll come good eventually, stick with it, persistence in the face of adversity will usually give results. Closing shot was very Ansel Adams. You seem to be at lot more at ease talking to the camera on this channel than when you’re off doing Bushcraft on your other one!

    Hope you can pick off a few of those wolves. Looks like a decent size pack. At 2:18 it looked like a pee post opportunity for a foot hold. Good luck out there. The pack I am after were gone for 12 days, showed up 3 days ago but just for one day. I could see where they were chasing a moose but no new sign today.

    Wolves are a pain, just gotta stick with them, they always come back eventually. I have a pee post that's popular every year, I've had a trap in front of it over a month now, and nothing yet...but I know they'll pee there sooner or later, at least a couple wolves do every year lol

    Wolves generally avoid 330’s, I wonder if the visible rams, sight and smell of metal keeps them away??? They are smart and hard to catch, but at least you have sign which is always a good sign 😁. I hope we all have some fur on our next checks!

    • @KuskWild
      @KuskWild  Рік тому +2

      I've been wondering the same thing. Perhaps the extra metal provides too much scent...

    • @deadpinecollective
      @deadpinecollective Рік тому +1

      @@KuskWild I just had a wolf refuse 3 snares which I’m guessing it came in during daylight and saw them since I hadn’t been in the area for 2 weeks and hadn’t touched the snares in well over a month. It then raided 3 cubbies down the line from the back. I now have an educated wolf I think.

    Another nice video. I always heard you shouldn't flag your wolf sets cuz they see that. Mark it with a natural marker like a tree blaze. Just an idea. Another successful wolf trapper I watch makes huge wolf snare loops so that their furry bib touches the giant loop they look right thru and drops on them with a quick drop snare..you want the bottom of the huge snare to hit the chest fur that sticks out as they hit the snare. God bless u too, brother

    I can see where Ringo got his cunning from...Pug/Chihuahua cross. He would have found the bait. I'd like to send him to Wolf School in Alberta although 5.8kg might mean he doesn't meet the physical requirements.Great videos

    So, why didn't you have the Ski-doo? Great to see the wolf sign back - as for lack of other sign like lynx, coyote, etc....has it been bitter cold there? It has been here and when it gets that cold they all seem to just hunker down...a little warm up and katie bar the door! Good luck with those new snare sets

    Please enlighten me:
    - How many animals are you allowed to trap?
    - Have you ever accidently caught a cougar in one of your traps?

    On the wolf crossing at the downed spruce tree, why did you use a ram, when you could have anchored the snare to the tree, thereby not having the ram exposed????

      Snares are the most ethical and effective killing trap for wolves. Properly set they can dispatch a wolf in less than 20 seconds.
