    By far the greatest talent that Britain has ever produced. Fantastic singer, dancer and actress, beautiful and a genuinely nice person.

    A lady with the magic in great abundance! I had the great honour of meeting Julie and her husband Blake Edwards many years ago. They were both super nice and very natural in conversation. Julie's speaking voice really was beautiful. The most feminine and classy I have ever heard personally.. Photos were taken with them which I have today. Blake Edwards, sadly, has now passed away but the memory of meeting them together and sharing conversation for one hour will always be special! Yes, Julie Andrews a truly great star on the world stage!

    She is one of the most Genuine stars I have ever come across. You see her as a person weather she's acting or giving an interview. She's so very real while at the same time being so very gracious with a dignity about her that cannot seem to be broken. I respect and love her because she is herself. One can't help loving her.

    There are some details missing from the list of interviewees. The man at 1:31 is Michael Bentine, a friend of Julie's since they appeared in the show together. Julie was later the godmother of Michael's son - there are photographs of Julie holding young master Bentine at his christening on the web. The voiceover at 2:46 and 5:09 is Tony Walton (Julie's first husband). 6:13 is Roddy McDowall, Camelot co-star and another lifelong friend (he took the "home movies" where Julie appears on Malibu beach with her daughter Emma which are also on UA-cam).

    J.A. began her vocal life as a lyric/coloratura soprano, and during the 1950s, her voice deepend to mezzo-soprano, albeit with a strong upper register.

    Julie Andrews. Fred Astaire. Judy Garland. Frank Sinatra. Bing Crosby. Doris Day. Rare multiple talents that existed in my lifespan. We were blessed to live in the era of great entertainment. No longer exists for multiple reasons. I would argue society has not advanced at most levels except technology.

I'll have to make do with videos!

      Yes, that is J.A.'s stepfather Ted, who died in the late 60s. Ted was apparently a fine musician, but he seemed to leave a great deal to be desired as a person. He was an alcoholic, and he reportedly made a pass at J.A.

    I BLAME REX HARRISON FOR JULIE'S NOT GETTING THE MOVIE. JACK WARNER WAS ALWAYS A DOPE, BUT IF REX WOULD HAVE REFUSED TO DO THE MOVIE WITHOUT HIS 5 YR CO STAR, JULIE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN...PERHAPS THE GREATEST CASTING INJUSTICE OF ALL TIME.

    • @EatDatMuffin

      I completely agree, but if she got the role, she wouldn't be able to do Mary Poppins...

    • @44032
      @44032 8 років тому +5

      +John Sweeney They wanted to do it without Rex Harrison, too. Cary Grant was offered the role but said he wouldn't even go see the film if Rex wasn't in it. So Rex didn't have a lot of bargaining power.

      If Julie had made My Fair Lady she wouldnt have made The Sound of Music because Walt Disney said that he would have waited for her for Mary Poppins. Yes Jack Warner was a dope he did the same with Ethel Merman inGypsy, Barbara Cook inThe Music Man and later with Angela Lansbury in Mame.Rdx Harrison wanted Julie as Robert Preston and the director wanted Barbara.But Jack Warner always wanted famous stars to sell the movies,Audrey also told Warner to cast Julie but he told her that if she didnt want to make the movie he would cast Elizabeth Taylor solo Audrey accepted.Yers agree onne of the greatests casting injustices all of time

      Audrey was beautiful and was known at the box office. However, she was no Julie Andrews when it came to singing. Her voice was dubbed over by uncredited Marni Nixon. www.samefacts.com/2014/06/culture-and-civil-society/film-culture-and-civil-society/the-secret-dubbing-of-audrey-hepburn-in-my-fair-lady/

      @em D Audrey was a good actress, but still Mary Poppins crushed MFL at the box office with an "unknown" actress. Today MP is considered a "classic", while MFL is only remembered based on the conflict of the cast. MFL has not really passed the test of time as MP. In addition, those who attended Broadway more than 10 or 15 times to see Julie in MFL would seriously question your argument ...
