I suspect an awful lot of people have had the same experience. Not enough info from Cricut on this. Every time I googled "With which materials can I use cricut joy smart vinyl permanent", I got the answer, "YOU DON'T NEED TO USE A MAT WITH SMART VINYL!!!!" I realise that this is a selling point but I wish they'd stop repeating that mantra and tell us something useful. We're all scared of wasting expensive vinyl. We've already laid out enough money. I mean my search description was pretty damn specific and clear. It should have been anticipated and understood by Cricut.com, but no "YOU DON'T NEED TO USE A MAT WITH SMART VINYL PERMANENT..."
I went to Cricut's website as well as doing a mere cursory google search. I'm a Cricut newbie and need guidance. Seems like once you've paid for the products and downloaded Cricut software it is then Radio Silence and you're left to fend for yourself.
OMG! Thank you so much for this. I have over 100 names to do for water bottles and I was losing my mind trying to get the transfer tape to adhere. It not only helped with the Smart Vinyl, but I’ve been having trouble with other vinyl as well. It took a couple of tries but now it works great! Also, now I realize I’ve been using too much transfer tape. Thanks again
I am just now using my Joy and was so annoyed that I was having issues getting the vinyl to stick! I only had 7 labels to create. Can’t imagine 100 with this issue it would have taken weeks! Lol. I hope this works for me!
Omg I can’t wait to try this. I spent a good 30 mins last night trying to transfer 5 lines of single letter wording from the smart paper. I can’t wait to try this.

My goodness! Finally! I have been struggling with this vinyl for so long and I bought a bundle of it and was so upset I couldn't get it to work.
I’ve been trying to do a water bottle for at least two hours now 😩 I rang cricut, the customer service woman had no idea what I was talking about and then I got cut off! I rang back and spoke to a really nice guy…he’s sending me some stronger transfer tape out andddd he gave me the link to this video…thank god for him and more importantly THANK YOU for this video, I’ve just tried it out andddd hey presto it’s worked…bit fiddly because I have so many little cuts buttttt it’s worked. Thank you thank you thank you, you’ve saved my sanity 🤪

I have had my Joy for months and just now got to play around with it. I was struggling with the Smart Vinyl and getting it to transfer. I have two types of transfer tape and am an experienced Silhouette Cameo user so I was getting frustrated! Your video helped tremendously. Thank you!!! Thanks so much for this tutorial, it will be a game changer for me! I've been using a small blade to pickup the smart vinyl from the transfer tape and it looked awful as the blade would cut into the edges. I'm going to try your method this weekend, thanks!❤
Yeah, I struggled sooo much and yes, this technique helps a lot but it hurts my hand after a while. My designs have a lot of small bits so it's a workout to transfer them every time. I prefer to cut on a mat...

The part about smart vinyl being lovely to work with? I’m not having the same experience. No ,after what I do - burnish the back, weed the middle - it’s a nightmare.
I'm wondering if you can use the cricut strong grip tape with smart vinyl? Or does it cause issues when you are trying to stick the vinyl onto the final surface because the tape is so sticky?

So I am trying to create a sign on a chalkboard. I used a sealer on the chalk board first and let it dry for 24 hours, and then I tried to apply the letters to the chalkboard with transfer tape. I am using the permanent smart vinyl in the color white for the chalkboard. But when I use the transfer tape to transfer the words over to the chalkboard the letters stick to the transfer tape far more than they do to the chalkboard. I am literally fighting with each individual letter trying to make it not stretch tear or rip. Any help would be great!!
So the joy cuts into the backing paper of the smart vinyl and if I bend back the backing paper it tears off ☹️☹️☹️
You made it look so easy but unfortunately it is still not working for me. The smart vinyl just will not budge no matter how hard I fold and press down. Thank you for your tutorial though, think I must get some regular vinyl.

I did everything you suggested but I could not get it off. I ended up throwing the entire project away. WASTED Vinyl!
This is the first tutorial that has actually helped but I'm still having an incredibly difficult time with nearly every project. Smaller, more intricate details IMPOSSIBLE..I'm ready to quit. Since I can't seem to find non "smart" vinyl for the joy, it's essentially useless to me no? No chance I can sell a decal let's say if it's this hard to peel. Wish I knew any of this before deciding to get the joy.
You can use normal vinyl in the Joy but you have to have it on a mat and you won’t get the large decals made. We are running free monthly events in the Facebook group. We hold them on zoom and everyone can see each other, ask questions etc. We do about 8 a month. At the start of December we are announcing January events and Joy essentials will be one of them. Join the group and book a space. The group is UKcricutcreators. You don’t need to be in the U.K. I am trying to work out a way I can do similar events for the YT channel for my american and worldwide followers but it’s difficult with time zones etc. What I may start doing is like a zoom drop in clinic where people can log on and we can go through specific issues but it won’t be until Jan. I tell you what, let me know where you are and what time and days work for you and I’ll try sort out a 1:1 for say 20 minutes where I can show you and we can work through it together. I don’t want you giving up. We just need to give you a bit of help. I don’t charge to help others so don’t worry about that. It’s completely free❤️
So you would really never be able to make car decals for friends with smart vinyl. Even with the tips the time it took to get onto transfer tape was way to long.

I am using Cricut standard grip in this video lovely and the paper tape is just generic. It’s basically wide masking tape. Infact I’ll do a tutorial showing how to do it using masking tape ❤️

Which do you prefer? Clear or paper?
It depends on my lighting and what I’m placing onto. The clear is reusable and great for placement and if I’m transferring into canvas or slate then it’s my absolute must use. The paper is a lot cheaper and great for transferring onto notebooks and delicate items but placement can sometimes be tricky. To be fair I use both a good amount for different uses so maybe have a think about what you will mainly be transferring onto. They are both handy to have though❤️
This issue makes the Joy anything but. I watched your video and others and still spent 3 hrs on a 30 min project today. s
