  • I have wanted a 462 with the carburetor for some time now. Had also wanted a wrap handle. This was waiting for me at the Stihl dealer haha. Much better imo without m tronic for overall feel while cutting but mtronic hasn't given me any issues ether k er the several years I had the old 462. Time to modify!!!

    Great saw! Looking good 😊 what is the funnel attachement for the fuel where you push it to flow? It seems to work perfect :D

    I agree with the way you break in a new saw but you might want to do some homework on your choice of 2-Stk mix oil. A great place to start is Richard Flagg's YT Channel...

      You know I have heard people having problems with ultra but being completely honest, I’ve run Stihl HP ultra for 7 years with ZERO issues. I mean no carbon never had a piston even get worn never mind blow up. I run 42-1. I am not saying there isn’t a better oil out there just saying I have no reason to switch. I cut hundreds of cords of wood per year doing tree removal. What oil you running? I’ve considered switching to red armor…

      @@timberandtools I hear ya - zero issues so no reason to switch but it would only take 1 issue to wreck a high dollar saw. If you look at some of the tear downs Mr Flagg does where his customers use Ultra, you'll notice very little residual oil on the piston or in the crank case. Red Armor would be a significant improvement over Ultra...

    Do you mind sharing how you tune it? I have the same 462r my settings are wack

    • @timberandtools
      @timberandtools  8 місяців тому +1

      Usually if I have a saw or get a saw from somebody to work on and the settings are crazy on the carb I turn the needles all the way in and then back them out one and a half turns it’ll probably say on the side of the saw, but generally with Stihl it’s one and a half turns. Generally speaking after I do a muffler mod or something I am able to turn the low screw out a decent bit more and generally I will lean the high side out, just a touch based on running it to hear the RPM and tuning in the Cut. I know it’s old-school but I don’t use a tachometer ha ha. Start putting it back to one and a half turns out on each screw and let me know how it is.

      @timberandtools thanks for the quick reply I'll try it out in the next couple days. I'm just afraid I might blow it up. It's definitely rich I haven't touched the high side yet.its on its 2nd fuel tank right now. I just breaking her in.

      Simple reason for that my friend, this stump needed to get flushed very low so in order to achieve that with a nice clean low cut, I always prefer to knock the peg off first and then finish a flush cut
