This happened to me when I rented my first place. I learned a valuable lesson, never tell a landlord that it’s your first time renting. I remember my tub was literally flooded with sewage on several occasions, I had to take a shower at loves truckstop for months. I ended up moving out 6 months later & got robbed for my security deposit.

Even after leaving the premises six months before my lease ended, letting him keep my security deposit, and just leaving the whole situation alone., He still had the nerve to try to reach out to me regarding the remainder of the rent. The landlord ultimately came out on top, forget the money, the lesson I learned beats any money back.

Also, in some states it's mandatory if there are children in the apartment and apartment is on an upper level floor, it's to protect child from accidentally falling out of window which has happened before housing law was enacted.
The plaintiffs seem very reasonable and not hot headed at all as prejudices of society would assume due to more rough diction and articulation of events. But they came prepared with receipts and stated their case pretty beautifully. Good for them. The defendants thought they could treat these people terribly and get away with it. Recently there was a report on the news about a landlord being killed by a Tennant. People who rent. are tired of being harassed & threatened by landlords so I wouldn't be surprised if there's more stories like this in the near future.
It gets funnier when the landlord claims what he is doing is “legal” when in reality they’re renting out something and it’s not even to state standards.
My first apartment was right before covid. The floor was still fucked. They sent me a notice that they were going to evict before the first rent was even due. There was glass in the carpet of our second bedroom. And they lost our file. We left two months after because we weren't going to be able to afford it after the shutdown.

I don’t care who the landlord is, anytime they “promise” to replace things prior to or after move-in, RUN! They usually NEVER do it or it means they’re going to be difficult to deal with.
Things like "like" "umm" and "you know" are just fillers, people use them to buy more time so they can think more about what they are going to say.. And people use the word basically to allow them to bend the truth by leaving out certain facts.. Plus it's just bad english..
The show has people from all walks of life so we get what we get. Hopefully those people will continue to watch JJ and as a result will learn how to manuver through life much better. 😁 If people were that art and articulate they would have resolved their issues and wouldn't need to be on court.
