The spoons could be a reference to the saying "he who sups with the devil should have a long spoon" So maybe that's why he coursed she with the spoons and why he breaks them.
@@federicohz2001 the breaking of the spoon combined with the O Dimm music, and the fact that the curse is so totally his thing is more than enough evidence to prove he's behind it. That being said, I totally didnt catch it at all first time around.
The act of breaking a wooden spoon is actually a way to curse someone. One it must be wooden. Two it must have been used the spoon in a meal that they ate, ether in preparing the meal or used in consuming it. This curse can only be evoked if you are a guest in the target's home and they have denied you hospitality three times. Once by refusing you shelter, second by refusing you food, third by refusing your kindness. These are the three rules of hospitality. The first two are subjected by circumstance because if they grant you sanctuary for a moment like willing to let you stay under their porch roof for a few seconds to get out of the rain it counts as sanctuary. As for the second you must ask for food and they must refuse for it to count. The third however is universal as refusing the kindness of a guest is well not circumstantial. Remember all three must be refused to work unless the target of the curse is yourself. Three, sware upon the spoon like so "I sware upon this broken spoon that- (fill in the black with three curses) so it shall be." The three curses must share repetition of intent such as "None will (blank), none will (blank), none will (blank)" Or "That you shall never (blank), That you shall never (blank), That you shall never (blank)." As an example, then fill the blanks in with what you wish upon the afflicted. In the end it should sound like this. "I sware upon this broken spoon, your heart be rotten, your visage be foul, your loins be fruitless, so it shall be." This is an example it could be slightly off but its the jest of what it is. This was an old curse to remind the rich and wealthy to be polite. Its reversible in two ways, one they must give their most precious possession to the caster, two they show the three rules of hospitality to someone in need who they never met and it must be genuine.
Ragnar Lothbrok _ not just O'Dimm on expecting ciri references if not a quest, wild hunt references if we don't get a chance to fight them and all sorts of references to lara Dorren and cregannen of lod and maybe geralt and the witchers.
The funny thing is that the spotted creature is already extinct, so, again, as he did in the beginning of the game, in white orchard, gaunter sort of helps Geralt progress on his missions. Call me crazy, but I think gaunter creates the problems so he can grab the souls of those who try to solve them. It makes sense when we remember that he is able to manipulate time at will. He theoretically could go back and forth time to create the solutions for a problem, then create the problem itself.
When you take the old lady back to your residence and then the song of master mirrors starts playing I had shivers down my spine. Such a good Easter egg
Spartacus115 I was in a PS4 party and me and my friends are fans of the Witcher 3 and we all played the hearts of stone dlc and I told everyone in the party to shout up because the gaunter O’Dimm theme was playing and they freaked out
I was surprised by the outcome of this mission. After I lifted the curse, I didn't expect Geralt to take her home, have BB nurse her back to health, and then allow her to stay for as long as she wanted. That kind of thing never happens. Usually, after Geralt helps someone, we never see them again, or maybe one more time elsewhere. Now, I still walk in the kitchen every now and then to check on Marlena. She is forever happy cooking for everyone at Corvo Blanco.
Gaunter O'Dimm is one of the best characters to ever appear in a video game. They totally need to make an easter egg reference to him in Cyberpunk 2077.
Zurin arctus *I Will Redeem The Land of Shadow** They're technically the same universe, or multiverse at least. Ciri makes references to Cyberpunk when talking to Geralt (I think at the end of TW3).
@Zurin Arctus Well, if you argue like that, every easter egg EVER makes no sense. The sword in the bonfire under the cloud giant's castle in B&W wouldn't be a Dark Souls reference. It would just be any sword stuck in a bonfire. You can't deny Ciri talking about Cyberpunk, neither that they will include an easter egg about her and Avallac'h in the game.
O`Dimm is one of my favorite characters, in a messed up way. That entire DLC was awesome, the whole time trying to figure out exactly what O`Dimm is. And in the end, you still dont really know. There was some scary bits in those missions, and the whole thing is overshadowed by this incarnation of evil. Damn, well done CD, well done.
As players, I think we got used to playing characters that are the “Chosen Ones” of their worlds (Skyrim, Dragon Age, Mass effect, Fable, etc.) We’re used to the world revolving around us, and our choices. We feel as though we are at the top of the food chain (or maybe importance chain?). So when a character like O’Dimm appears, it gives you a huge slap in the face - even for all your greatness, when compared to someone as O’Dimm, you are as insignificant as an ant. Humans are always fascinated by the unknown. Which is why characters like O’Dimm or the G-Man from Half-life are so intriguing to theorize about.
A Witcher 3 reference in Cyberpunk 2077? Didn't Ciri say something about visiting a world where people waged war at a distance when Geralt finally caught up to her on that mystical island?
@@ZoglerRandomiel the devs if memories serve said there would be no reference to the witcher series in cyberpunk 2077. This coule also be a misdirection but its doubtful because im pretty sure its because they dont want people wasting all their timw to find an easter egg instead of immersing themselves in the game they worked on.
Spotted Wight curse on Marlene de Trastamara is effectively a twisted version of Beauty and the Beast, she was practically curse the same way the prince was by the enchantress, by being a prick to Gaunter O'Dimm, that resulted in her getting cursed.
Also, I believe that the language O’Dimm spoke of that was spoken in Eastern Iran was part of ancient Zoroastrianist texts. Zoroastrianism seems to have a presence in the Witcher world. Look at the Church of the Eternal Fire for example. It’s a religion clearly inspired by Zoroastrianism, since it heavily involves the presence of fire. Damn The Witcher 3 is a fuck of a lot deeper than I ever thought it was.
Did anyone caught the same detail as i did? Ok you know when you meet the professor on his pentacle, when he says that as long as the candles are lit he'll be protected. Well, when he kills himself (and right before leaving the crumbling place) if you take the time to take out all of the candles, there will be a very loud demonic growl at the last candle. Jesus fucking Christ i slept with the lights on this night.
I’ve played many video games in my day, faced many foes and played out many stories. Few character have shook me to my core in the same manner as Gaunther O’Dimm.
Same here. It's insane how much live they gave this character. He seriously shivered me limbs when he started showing his powers from the storm onwards.
Oh come on! He's obvious oblivious ding bat loser bad guy... I mean seriously, he's after a ginger... and EVERYONE else knows... Gingers don't have souls to steal in the first place. He completely botched that one. If you don't challenge O'Dinn, "takes" the soul, really feigns taking it, instead burns his corpse realizing the great embarrassment that he wanted to conceal, there was no soul to take, like trying to suck big block of cheese through a straw. Had to make himself look bad ass to save face, spending all that time on a ginger. No, O'Dinn sort of stunk that one up. And if you do challenge him, his riddle can be mastered by a 1st grader.
I played Blood And Wine before Hearts Of Stone so I never realized the merchant was O'Dimm. (I saved the woman, she is now always preparing warm food in my kitchen. Thanking me for saving her)
6:11 "And it ends with a scream of anguish" "He must have transformed in the middle of writing!" "Oh come on. If he were screaming he wouldn't bother to write it out. He'd just say it!" "Well that's what it says." "Hmm...perhaps he was dictating?" "Oh shut up!"
Fun thing: Trastamara was a real-life Spanish, castillian dinasty, last of which would be Queen Isabel, who married Ferdinand of Aragon, thus uniting Spain under one dynasty. Sadly their daughter would be considered as insane and locked away. That might have been the inspiration for Malena Trastamara.
Since you're writing "fun things", in my eyes Gaunter o'dim is inspired by the german tale, Faust, the most know version of this tale that i know was made by the writter: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, very good reading if you ask me.
The last Trastámara was Fernando de Aragón(although Isabel also had Trastamaran blood ,he was the Catolic King with the closest(and most recognized(due to the patrilinealism)) bond to the Trastamaran line),who, while being of Castillian descent, ruled over Aragón,not over Castilla.

I am on my first playthrough and I just did this amazing quest, read all the ingame lore about it, and I loved it. When I read the diary that said that a "merchant of mirrors" cursed the victim shivers ran down my spine because I immesdiately thought: This has to be the work of G.o'd. Thank you for the video!!
Gaunter O’Dimm is one of the most interesting and mysterious characters. he is very powerful but his power works differently. why he does what he does no one knows.
They’re told to make sure people follow hospitality customs. The core of the stories always come down to, “Don’t be rude to strangers knocking at your door, for you never know if they’re a god in disguise.”
I absolutely dread going to that house ... it freaks me out so badly. I just run out and hold my breathe like when I was a child and had to run to my room through a dark scary hallway after the lights turn off.
Then throw me this bone: Gaunter O'Dimm got a destructive storm running without sorcery. Just. Like. That. He can make it, that time seemingly stops. He basically inserts himself multiple times in the story of his little champion trying to fulfill the contract. 1st: Where does this power come from? Not from sorcery or any magic, he detests that stuff. The christian devel has never been shown to be able to change the weather for one. And before you claim that thing was on it's way, it wasn't. Any boatsman with even the smallest commonsense would have rather tried his luck with the ofiery swords than a storm that's that close. Plus, once Geralt wakes up, that thing is looong gone. And I doubt he had been out cold for hours. 2nd All that is easily more power than just destroying an immortal. After all, Gaunter _could_ literally take him apart and spread the corpse pieces out. But he wants the soul. He is also eternal. Completely. He makes himself look humble. Since when do devils hide behind humble facades? Did you know that he is the one that made the boclair noble become a monster (edit: Off course you know. After all, you watched this video. Silly me. Forgets where we are)? He posed himself as a beggar and upon being rejected he cursed her. Pulled a real beaty and the beast on her _without_ the question, wether it was justifyable to curse a probably ten year old. All in all, if not god, then close enough for me. But surely no devil. After all, he gives you _exactly_ what you want. Like a djinn and claims your soul like a devil AND has the power of a god. Every higher bad thing amalgamated into one.
You think all gods are omnipotent? "A god could do whatever they wanted" sounds like you do. Any supreme being is a god as it's the synonym for the word. O'Dimm is a supreme being. ( a being with "supreme" logo ;D ). You think all gods have to be good? As in have exactly the same morals as you do as it defines what is good in your eyes and what is bad?
"Any god worth your worship should be" And why is that? "The concept of God, as described by theologians, commonly includes" COMMONLY is the keyword. It's not "always". Gods being man made they always wants their god to be as strong as possible and what is the strongest? Omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscience. They would claim their god was stronger than that if they could. There's more non omni gods than omni gods. For example the indian gods, mayan gods, egyptian gods, greek goods, roman gods, nordic gods etc. All those omni gods are outnumbered by non omni gods. "The God of the old testament describes in job 38-41 how big his dick is. (It's Yuge)" I wish I could give ur comment 10 thumbs up or 100 simply for this :D
Oi! Before any of you say anything about gods: Look at kami. They are gods. They are sometimes closer to sorcerers in witcher than to "The Lord" or even the greek/roman ones! Plus, I still don't see how Gaunter is not omnipotent. I play witcher sometimes without real armour on and sometimes fighting skull bosses. Because I get a kick out of it. It is dangerous, hard and wonderfully monotonous once you caught on. Playing by self set rules is fun. Why should Gaunter not do the same?
Now that I think of it that "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" in diary excerpt is kind of sílly given it was handwritten. Then again, I guess it could be chalked up as an abstraction about incoherent text, and she literally didn't write "a" repeatedly,
I think it's just a consequence of trying to convey that through text, could have been done better though, like if they called it or commented it as indiscriminate scribbling
Gaunter O'Dimm in cyberpunk would be awesome. But make it subtle. Him in the background once or twice and some sort of riddle involving mirrors or spoons. Things only the attentive will maybe notice and then make them appretiate CDPR all that much more but that most people would never even notice.
O'Dimm appears all over the place in Hearts of Stone. If you look closely, you'll see his face in many of the major storyline cutscenes. The easiest one to spot is Gaunter dressed up like a Redanian soldier during the auction house heist standoff. He's holding a crossbow in the back row of soldiers. Eerie stuff when you actually notice him.
I finished HoS by beating Gaunter for Olgierd's soul, so when I came to the wight quest in B&W, breaking the curse and taking her in put a smile on my face because it felt like adding insult to injury: Geralt has already beaten Gaunter once to deny him Olgierd's soul and to save his own, and now here he is again, undoing the misfortune of another of his past victims and giving her a better life, almost as an extra "Fuck you" to him.
They needed an ingredient from an extinct species and surprise, surprise, there was one specimen just next door. I usually would cll it plot convenience, but here, I'm not so sure... I got the feeling that Gaunther O Dhimm has at lest some foresight allowing him to manipulate major events at times with only small actions.
edi Perhaps he did, yet cannot refuse a direct challenge all the same. Maybe there are just certain limitations to this foresight, hell, he might have put those limitations there himself, as knowing everything that will happen is boring. Maybe he can't see the future after all, in which case he took a hell of a risk with Geralt's escape. Who knows?
I've seen a rather crappy anime, that had a quite interesting concept: 1) magical creatures gain power from people believing in their powers 2) In order to pull off a particularly strong spell, you need to make a sacrifice or if you can't you need to make it a gamble putting yourself at risk. Regarding Gaunther, I doubt that he would put limitations onto himself, if he didn't had to. It must be vanity or greed for souls that makes him accept contracts that he might fail to keep. Maybe, his power grows with his legend and with every gamble he wins (which in turn creates the illusion of omnipotence and strengthens his legend). Maybe, he can only see probabilities. When he created the spotted wight, he might have split the world into two parallel universes. One in which Gerald takes advantage of it and one where he doesn't, making it a 50:50 gamble to Gaunther. Maybe, there was an 80% chance that Gerald survives the Shipwreck (he was far from the only survivor BTW) and Gaunther had also a plan B, if he doesn't survive it, or perhaps he would have intervened a second time. I like that he was portrayed as neither good nor overly evil. However, if he was interested in making as many contracts as possible, wouldn't he want to appear more like a nice god and advertise himself a bit more? Thus, I think it's not primarily about souls, but his own pride or growth of might.
Just pointing out, spoon with Gaunter seems to have quite a few connections. The spoon that Gaunter broke that initiated everything on the ship, the spoon that Gaunter drove through the peasant and lastly the numerous amount of spoons within the Wight lair. Spoons are also known to be shiny and reflective which reflect whatever that you put in front of it. So I guess there's a connection between all these things? Both time spoons that Gaunter broke and used to kill were wooden spoons too, so perhaps he's not so fond of wooden spoons as it does not reflect and serve what he does "master of mirrors".
3:50 The Spoon connection. 9:10 Then the mention of the spoon breaking. BRILLIANT! Never once occurred to me until now as I listen to this after watching the previous video by Fudge about O'Dimm. Geralt aside (whom DOESN'T have him as their favorite character...Regis I like the most out of the rest but after seeing these pieces that shine more light on O'Dimm...he hast to be the most interesting character in the Witcher universe.
This was one of my favorite stories in the entire game. I loved breaking the curse and being so creeped out by the spotted wight. It's so creative. I love this game so much. Great way of putting this video together. I also love the Godlings and would love to see more content in the bogs and swamps. Man i love this game so much and the lore behind all of it.
Yes, but so very subtly that it is easy to miss and that is what makes it genius. Even the spoons clanging sometimes made me think of the theme, Geralt mentions that as he enters the place.
I dreaded exploring that place. Even after I was finished, and I went back to get her little treasure she gifts, I just absolutely hated going back in there. There’s something about the atmosphere & details that make you feel as if someone is watching you & they’re gonna pop out grab you any second. It’s terrible!
@@jmitterii2 i had fun as hell, 144hours and all steam achievments. sadly it could have been way better if they took another year for the game. The storys in this game hard carried it tho.
O’Dimm, much like Randall Flagg from The Stand by Stephen King, has the supposed ability to travel between dimensions. So it’s possible that he picked up that language from Eastern Iran from actually visiting our world thousands of years ago. Also, could this possibly indicate that Flagg and O’Dimm are perhaps the same incarnation of one another? After all, Flagg goes by many names: The Man in Black, Walter Paddick, Walter O’Dimm, the Ageless Stranger, etc. He’s also appeared in other realms within the Dark Tower series, such as a wizard in King’s Eyes of the Dragon bent on sending the fantasy kingdom of Delain into chaos. So, all this considered, it is a possibility that they’re one of the same.
This was a really well done video! One of my absolute favorites. I really loved this quest. At first glance you see a hideous monster, but if you look deeper you'll find a suffering woman who's life was cruely taken from her.
Wow yeah, great video. I also couldn’t help think a ‘heart of stone’ led to the loss of everything for her. She was very beautiful, wealthy and clearly had enough food to give but was short on character, love and compassion. She chased off a beggar over some fear or desire. He broke a spoon (wondering what that symbolizes) and became cursed, confused, her image changing and her hunger increasing to the point she ended up lonely, unable to even see herself, with nothing left to satisfy her. In all her desire and effort she gained nothing except a great collection of spoons to remind her of the hopelessness of it all. It’s not until she meets a kind stranger that attempts to hear her, sits with her, feeding on more than food that she is forced to confront her image and flee from the creature in the mirror.
Small theory. What if O'dimm did this for Geralt. Think about, all the wights are dead and there's no way to continue but we all know O'dimm has helped Geralt before, once for free and the other a deal. So what if O'dimm planned this as a reward for beating him or simply for dealing with the wight one way or another. But that's only a theory, a GAME THEORY!
pretty sure Marlene says all her family is dead. she watched them grow old and die, so she was cursed LONG before Geralt met O'Dimm in Hearts of Stone.
I almost cried at this story and at seeing the helplessness of that wight trying to eat something and begging people to be it's guest. Aah i just cant..
To me this just shows that Gaunter O’Dimm is unnaturally old, given how this woman had been cursed for many years. So it doesn’t have anything to do with Gaunter’s “death”
Gaunter O'dimm and Sheogorath would be very good friends. Both of them as malicious as Nestle. The elder scrolls universe as well as the witcher universe would be in shambles if they joined forces. Or maybe sheogorath would annoy O'dimm. Who knows.
Gaunter is probably one of the few ways ive been able to create a character for the DM in DnD (homebrew) a way for the dm to act as more of the story without ruining the immersion of the story
CDPR has said that Geralt and Ciri may not be appearing, but Easter Eggs, I'd say, are totally fair game! I'd LOVE to see some sort of reference to G.O'D., the White Wolf, and the Lady of Time and Space...
#ODIMMDIDNOTHINGWRONG Seriously though...as cruel and sadistic as he may seem, and he is, have you all noticed a pattern to his "victims"? They are unsavoury characters, arrogant and self centred, greedy betrayers, degenerates with hearts of stone...O'Dimm doesn't cast curses on innocent people...he punishes the wicked.
@@trisryan4161 that was a decision made by Olgierd. O'Dim never forced him to be a negligent uncaring degenerate who pillaged and murdered for fun...in fact it was a Von Everec pass time. Olgierd could have accepted his deserved punishment for all the selfish decisions he took im his bid for immorality. He CHOSE to sacrifice Vlodimir. Olgierd deserves little pitty and it's honestly just as morally correct to let O'Dim deliver his punishment as it is not. It all depends on wether you believe Olgierd deserves to die for his sins or if he deserves to live with the insurmountable guilt for the rest of his life.
@@sidetracker3496 Ok then what of skellige? I mean, those people lived for pillaging so shouldn't they suffer the same fate as olgierd? Hell, what of Witchers even? some monsters dont kill without provocation yet witchers often kill them anyway for a bag of coin. Olgierd does not mention how many he killed, if he killed children, let people live, etc. all we know is that he led a band of rogues. noble-born rogues at that. He even says that he regrets turning the prince into a frog when you talk to him meaning that he isn't some sociopath that doesnt feel until O'dimm gave him a heart of stone. O'dimm murdered a man with a spoon just for interrupting him for less than 10 seconds. He didn't need to cause he can just freeze time.
Thank you. I feel the same way. These people weren't "good" people. Olgeird had to have known what he was signing up for, since he was using "black magic". He chose that path. It didn't sound like he had a very good heart before O'Dimm gave him a "heart of stone". The spotted wight was being cruel and selfish on top of going against what was supposed to be a traditional custom when a traveler comes to your home. I mean, damn, all she had to do was give him some food. But she denied him and then rubbed salt in the wound by belittling him. Olgeird and the old woman kinda deserved it.
@@trisryan4161 let me get things straight here.. if you're a son to a weapons dealer, ate food from that "blood" money, go to college with "that" money, and get married mostly by "that" money. Then someday, a son of the father whose been murdered by the weapon get revenge on you and killed your newborn baby and you'll say...."FATHER! THIS IS YOUR DOING!" and you apologize to that man who killed your baby and shake his hand on behalf of your father? Or you just simply killed that man? You have a long and twisted logic man, even Olgierd never mess with eredin even if he could. Why? Well, someday you'll get the picture. And for that drunkard on the inkeep on oxenfurt who got killed by the spoon was enough to make a conclusion that O'Dimm is nothing but evil? You mean that CDPR must give a detailed background story for every one that O'Dimm deal with? Then this wouldn't be The Witcher 3, but The Mirror 3. And maybe Olgierd has the hearts of stone, but his logic still clear as a fresh everluce. Your point only based on Olgierd being sorry for the frog prince? But you neglected the fact that he also told geralt that he asked for help from "the wrong kind of man", and what did you think about a man whose looking for solution for his problems in a bar to drink and brawl on and on and on again? Sociopath? Aaaahhh, not quite....but he's getting there and got the hearts of stone side effect (let me make things clear once more, SIDE EFFECT). This is a simple logic, if you're good people then you asked for solutions from another good people. But if deep down inside you're a twisted man then the wise words will never reach your ears until you've changed. Cheers
This was a crazy story to come across in game. I didn’t full understand it when I first came upon it and had to go over it again in order to finally start to understand it.
I just did this quest yesterday, noticed all you mentioned and still had to hit this up too and gorge on the amazing lore of Witcher some more :D Great video as always.
Lachlan Bold I doubt it, since if you ask O'Dimm about Ciri at the end of Hearts of Stone, he actually admits interfering with Ciri's fate directly is outside his power.
Doesn't mean he is less poéwerful it just means he must abide by rules just like when he is beaten in his own game he must always keep his end of bargain.
I've been binging your witcher videos all day and I cant get enough of them!!! Your attention to detail of the story line is outstanding and it makes me want to do a 3rd play through, your getting a sub and a like from me!
After playing the game so much I have a theory. I think O’Dimm did curse this women on purpose so Geralt and Regis can make the potion to summon Dettlaff. Because it appears the Spotted Wight are no longer around at the time, so O’Dimm made it possible for Geralt to make the potion to continue his journey otherwise it would have been impossible (not entirely). After O’Dimm helped me to help Ciri in her journey i now know that he knows the future. Damn you O’Dimm you beautiful basterd.
So before even coming in contact with Geralt and Regis he cursed that women (probably hundred years ago - don't remember correclty but i think it was mentioned if you helped to lift the curse and offered her to stay in mansion, that she has been cursed for more years that she even looks like in her elderly version). It's fun theory but doesn't make a lot of sense. :)
People always want to lean on Gaunter O'Dimm being either God or the devil but I think people forget that the Witcher world is polytheistic. In polytheistic religions, being a God doesn't mean you are like the Christian God. All knowing, all powerful, all loving, and blah blah blah. Look at other polytheistic religions in the real world. They aren't some perfectly good being. They have traits that could be considered good and some that are considered evil, but they are still called a God. That's what I think Gaunter O'Dimm is. He's A God not THE God.
I have a theory that O'Dimm is some kind of fallen pagan god (like "devils" from Polish folk tales). Like them, he isn't completely evil: he helps the poor and protects the law of hospitality. Isn't it weird that the last time we see him in an abandoned temple?
Valerie Montanez Hmmm...Olgried summoned him using a book of dark/ocult magic. This does not sound typically for a GOD, like the MIRROR of GOD, like the upside down reflection, as visible in spoons...
"Master mirror I call to you, he who walks with power true, on this night of the full moon, I ask for you to end my blues" -scribbles found in the journal of Brennon the elder after being slaughtered by a group of bruxae.
Could you make a Skyrim video on 'What would happen if when you die, you stay dead'. Like, what events would happen after your death. What would the people do to prepare for imminent death. Things like that? I think it sounds like a fun video idea.
Kaelan Everett im saying like we think after we die a piece of us is still alive but b4 we were born there wasnt nothing we dont remember anything and we were unconcious. So after death we would b unconcious
''What would happen if when you die, you stay dead'', There's no such outcome. First, Depending on your race and what you did in life, you may enter a different after life, be it sovngarde, or the hunting grounds of hircine, or other deities and daedras. Second, you could have your soul trapped in a Gem and stuck in there, and those trapped by black soul gems go to Soul Cairn. Third, when your soul is destroyed you cease to exist, like when the Dragonborn devour the Soul of the Dragons he kills, the dragons ceases from existence to never come back. There's nothing more to it, you die, one of these 3 happens to you.
I want to know why Gaunter O'Dimm loves spoons so much. Actually, since O'Dimm manipulates time so much it raises the question of whether or not O'Dimm cursed her so that there'd be an otherwise extinct Spotted Wight in the world (and nearby no less) when Geralt needed its saliva.
I always like how people that write a journal and go crazy actually write down stuff "Aaaaaaaa"

Three, sware upon the spoon like so "I sware upon this broken spoon that- (fill in the black with three curses) so it shall be."
The three curses must share repetition of intent such as
"None will (blank), none will (blank), none will (blank)"
Or
"That you shall never (blank), That you shall never (blank), That you shall never (blank)."
As an example, then fill the blanks in with what you wish upon the afflicted. In the end it should sound like this.
"I sware upon this broken spoon, your heart be rotten, your visage be foul, your loins be fruitless, so it shall be."
This is an example it could be slightly off but its the jest of what it is. This was an old curse to remind the rich and wealthy to be polite. Its reversible in two ways, one they must give their most precious possession to the caster, two they show the three rules of hospitality to someone in need who they never met and it must be genuine.

O’dimm is someone you’d never notice right away. He’ll be there alright, but that doesn’t mean you’ll see him coming...
Gaunter is definitely the only enemy in this game that really unsettles me, like really unsettles me
I would add unseen vampire to it, but he's not on the same level
What makes him more unsettling is that he's not even a "standard" enemy. He's more of an evil mysterious entity.
So you just made out with the crones?

Gaunter O'Dimm is one of the best characters to ever appear in a video game. They totally need to make an easter egg reference to him in Cyberpunk 2077.
Zurin arctus *I Will Redeem The Land of Shadow**
They're technically the same universe, or multiverse at least. Ciri makes references to Cyberpunk when talking to Geralt (I think at the end of TW3).
Zurin Arctus obviously shes not saying its cyberpunk, how would that make any sense in the first place anyway?
@Zurin Arctus
Well, if you argue like that, every easter egg EVER makes no sense.
Nah Alduin is better.

He's probably a God, trickster or whatever.
My best guest..Odimm is a crossroads Demon

A Witcher 3 reference in Cyberpunk 2077? Didn't Ciri say something about visiting a world where people waged war at a distance when Geralt finally caught up to her on that mystical island?

Robomerc Gaunter would curse you just for breathing in his direction
good point
I'd argue the story of Nivelen and the Bruxa from The Last Wish is a better reference given Nivelen's house has living furniture that serves him.

Gaunter, you little devil. Literally.
I'd call him a malevolent and irony loving god, but suit yourself
Then throw me this bone:
Gaunter O'Dimm got a destructive storm running without sorcery. Just. Like.
2nd
All that is easily more power than just destroying an immortal.

It was definitely O’dimm. In Hearts of stone, he snapped a spoon as if a wish bone, in the tavern he stabbed a man with a spoon.
That letter though. "He must've died while carving it."
They needed an ingredient from an extinct species and surprise, surprise, there was one specimen just next door. I usually would cll it plot convenience, but here, I'm not so sure... I got the feeling that Gaunther O Dhimm has at lest some foresight allowing him to manipulate major events at times with only small actions.
edi He definitely does. The storm could just as easily have killed Geralt, yet O'dimm knew it would result in his freedom
Mads Andreasen If he knows the possible futures, how did he not see his defeat?
edi Perhaps he did, yet cannot refuse a direct challenge all the same. Maybe there are just certain limitations to this foresight, hell, he might have put those limitations there himself, as knowing everything that will happen is boring. Maybe he can't see the future after all, in which case he took a hell of a risk with Geralt's escape. Who knows?
I've seen a rather crappy anime, that had a quite interesting concept:
1) magical creatures gain power from people believing in their powers
2) In order to pull off a particularly strong spell, you need to make a sacrifice or if you can't you need to make it a gamble putting yourself at risk.
I think that maybe he sees time not as a linear thing but as a plan of events on an open table
This quest gave me serious chills when I heard the music
Furthermore spoons carry a liquid, which can be considered a mirror but not of glass, one that cannot be broken

This was one of the BEST quests in the game. Absolutely AMAZING.
The golden chalice at the end of the WIld Hunt which the dwarves sold contained Olgierd's blood right? They mentioned Mr Mirror buying it from them.
It’s not until she meets a kind stranger that attempts to hear her, sits with her, feeding on more than food that she is forced to confront her image and flee from the creature in the mirror.
also when she turns into a human again the spell animations are the same from when gaunter O'Dimm descents from the moon

They are unsavoury characters, arrogant and self centred, greedy betrayers, degenerates with hearts of stone...O'Dimm doesn't cast curses on innocent people...he punishes the wicked.
Yes, but how many die to punish those who supposedly deserve it? Just think back to how many people olgierd may have killed because of Gaunter O'dimm.
If Gunther O'Dimm appeared in Cyberpunk, that would be incredible. Can't wait to see Ciri there.
Ciri isn't gonna be there.
@@Johnspartan296 knowing CD she probably will as some mid game Easter egg that doesn't Interfere with the story
I just did this quest yesterday, noticed all you mentioned and still had to hit this up too and gorge on the amazing lore of Witcher some more :D Great video as always.
Is it possible for that O’Dimm is somehow responsible for the Elder Blood? I wouldn’t put it past him.....
Another Wight guards the furthest North place of power...........so crows are not all wise.
Cheers!!
If O'Dimm could see the future, he wouldn't have been defeated by Geralt
Spotted wights, the last of the spotted wights. Wights are still around, just not that particular version of them.
I never made this connection before, and it's very clear. Well made video yet again!
Spoonman!
#SoundGarden
Harrowed One - All my friends are skeletons....!
I love the suprise O’Dimms in this game
I saved the wight
These are the best videos. Thank you for the research and for being so thorough.
@@hyzop3719 That definitely makes more sense than saying he's just God or the Devil.
Valerie Montanez Hmmm...Olgried summoned him using a book of dark/ocult magic. This does not sound typically for a GOD, like the MIRROR of GOD, like the upside down reflection, as visible in spoons...
The writers' attention to detail and world-building skills are just awe inspiring.
We know the story bro, you don’t have to ... 😎 spoon feed us!
"Master mirror I call to you, he who walks with power true, on this night of the full moon, I ask for you to end my blues"
-scribbles found in the journal of Brennon the elder after being slaughtered by a group of bruxae.
where?
Johnny Djiurkopff He asked him to end it and thus Gaunter fulfilled his wish: by having bruxa kill him. Crazy.
Could you make a Skyrim video on 'What would happen if when you die, you stay dead'. Like, what events would happen after your death. What would the people do to prepare for imminent death. Things like that? I think it sounds like a fun video idea.
Kaelan Everett what hapoened b4 u were born? Were u a spirit?
triigga s tf?
Kaelan Everett im saying like we think after we die a piece of us is still alive but b4 we were born there wasnt nothing we dont remember anything and we were unconcious. So after death we would b unconcious
triigga s Did you even read my comment? Holy shit.
I noticed that too, thanks for the remarkable detailed explanation.
that one dislike makes me angry
the gaming turtle 1 your grammar makes me angry
There were a couple more of references to the Mirror Merchant in couple of other side quests in Velen
As soon as I saw the word mirror, I knew odimm was behind this curse. I also believe that odimms theme plays when your at this location
Once you kill someone with a spoon, you're instantly linked to anything spoon related in everything
I love the way you think.
witcher 4 should introduce a new school of witchers dedicated to deal with gunter o dimm in the future
