I'm from Ontario and i've lived all over Alberta.. I must say if u don't have a good job opportunity in Calgary.. Don't go there.. The small towns of Alberta are far better, The time i spent in Canmore was some of the best of my life. If i'm being 100 percent honest i did not enjoy Calgary at all and i helped work on the Stampede last year and i couldn't wait to leave. Jasper National Park is my favorite spot to visit in the entire country..
You are bouncing around a lot in terms of what you're saying. Calgary is the epicentre of Alberta. Canmore and Jasper are garbage towns filled with drug addicts, homeless people, and an over-abundance of trash service industry jobs. Sure, the areas are gorgeous, but it's only really viable if you are an extremely wealthy tourist or have some form of professional job in the area. Calgary, Edmonton, and cities in between offer far more in terms of "real employment opportunities" than Jasper, or the Bow Valley. But I understand what you're saying. Time I spent in Canmore was some of the WORST I've ever experienced, and that includes time I spent in Banff as well.

Currently living in Salt Lake City Utah... Researching Canadian cities for a potential move. I'm thinking Calgary would be the closest thing to SLC north of the border. A good mix of good people, lower COL, strong economy, dry climate, access to outdoor activities.
Dry climate better than humidity durring winter. Because in my country, Latvia, its very humid so durring winter -2 feels like -15. My friend from Kazahstan (and there they have -40 sometimes) said that it feels much colder in Latvia with -5 haha
From someone who moved to GTA from Calgary and then back here, there is far less variety of food here, and restaurants close well before 10 PM, usually at 8 or 9:30.
incredibly funny presentation! i used to live in Calgary years ago. i loved the moutains. recently passed through the airport. people seemed funny and nice.
1. Relatively high cost of living (housing being the primary issue). 2. Daycare costs are high (think $800/month/child unsubsidized at least) 3. Terrible drivers. I've been here for 15 years.
Calgary is shaping up very well. It is interesting to see how the infrastructure has improved at a better pace than it did during the oil boom and the years that followed as a consequence. From the standpoint of people who were not in the oil industry, one could argue things have gotten much better, with reasonable provincial debt levels and smart investments in infrastructure. For Albertans, sometimes you gotta spend a bit where it counts. I have encountered a significant amount of people from Ontario who love Calgary and believe it to be one undiscovered jem that is not overcrowded. The oil industry contributed a great deal to the province and to the city. However, I believe the money was squandered, there was little to show for it, and a lot was used for individual benefit. One oil and gas economics professor was telling me during the boom years that Alberta was not saving in their heritage fund for rainy days. That is talked about a lot to this day. A lot of oil people were just making silly money. Many are still trying to juggle and hold on to their oil wealth. I wish the directional change of the oil industry was a bit more gradual and less sudden. Alberta will be better off with slow economic diversification while the oil industry remains a big player. The oil industry spoiled Alberta a great deal. I think the oil industry also caused great inequity among those in the business, those benefiting from the royalties, and those not in the business. Trudeau is another story..

I was born in Calgary in 1957 and other than the size of the city and ridiculous house prices, nothing has changed. OK, the thing about the unpredictability of the weather: weather forecasting is amazingly accurate. If you consult the Weather Network etc, you have a pretty good idea of what it's going to be for the next week. Unfortunately, although you will be reasonably fore warned about thunderstorms, usually all you get about hail, is that it's a possibility. It's a total crap shoot whether you will get it. It's also usually very localised. Never the whole city. (Calgary is huge). I also used to get cracked fingers in the winter, when I worked in a warehouse. But I retired last year, and didn't have to use lotion once. I don't have a humidifier either, so I dunno.

Not so long ago I sat on a hillside and watched the lemmings heading home from work at 5:30 lines of red lights bumper to bumper 4 wide. And as I watched your video we hear the wailing sirens of multiple cop cars heading to another incident. Another drug related targeted assassination on some street corner? Road rage and surly drivers... I lived in Calgary for 30 years, where once upon a time English was the language we spoke, now I have to be multilingual to understand just about anyone. I learned Spanish and moved to Mexico

It depends what kind of person you are. For me I don't like the dry/cold weather. It is super unpredictable. You do not get 4 distinct seasons most years. It can look like winter from October through May. The seasons change erratically. You can have spring be up to 8 weeks late or early. Its often very windy. I have chronic migrain issues from the random air pressure changes. The summers are not that warm. A few years ago I visited interior BC in April and to me it seemed like what we get in July. It was 20-30 degrees celcius almost every day which is our usual Summer in Calgary. The locals in BC said its always that warm in April. I couldnt believe it. . In Calgary area the growing season for gardeners is short, like 3 months. You get all kinds of hail too which is a frustrating wild card to have to deal with. Winters are awful. Not as much snow as other places but you can get stretches where it is -25 all the way down to -45 in some cases. I have literally had my shower pipes freeze before. There are usually stretches where it is warm too like around -5ish and sometimes even above zero. Like he said gravel on roads turns into lots of broken windshields. The weather changes a lot in winter and snow melts and then refreezes and then the roads become full of black ice. Driving in the winter is scary if you do not have a 4x4 with good winter tires. The drivers here are generally crazy. The roads in general are full of construction Living expenses here are also incredibly exorbident. Some love Calgary. I have lived here since 1998, but I am over it now. But I can see why some people like it. Its better than many other cities. But there are a lot of cons that eventually wear on you, mainly the winter driving and the nearly year round crap weather.
Hi there, I am Harrison from Miami FL recently moved to Edmonton CA. Hoping I could make a few friends, that's of course if you don't mind my company that is?
8 months of winter in the hell town, lol, at least someone is thrilled living here. I like Calgary don't get me wrong but I'm not in love with the city, it's certainly gone downhill recently.
In what way has it gone downhill? I live in the UK and I just want a change and i'm trying to make up my mind. I was looking at Toronto. Vancouver isn't my cup of tea. I love the change in seasons, but it seems like Canada as whole is a constant winter. But I'd like to hear you opinion on Calgary as a whole, the good, bad, and ugly.
@@utubecomment21 Economically, I know a lot of people are looking for jobs and struggling, business is leaving due to our crazy taxes and bills (this is a Canada wide thing), our minimum wage might be 15 dollars but when everything else went up it didn't help. The cost for housing is high but not nearly as crazy as Toronto or BC. Public transit just got a large budget cut, same with police and the fire department. I make it sound horrible but it's not, it's bad thou, very frustrating just watching it happen. I do really like my city, I do, it's just the people in charge of everything not doing a good job. The people are great, there is quite a bit of green space, it's pretty open and you don't really feel crowded anywhere but on Deerfoot lol. No one likes Deerfoot. It does snow/ hail all year-round in Alberta and can be cold at any time so if you move I hope you really like snow and don't mind never putting your winter clothes away. He's not lying about the crazy weather changes, it has snowed and been +25 in the same day, it drops 15 degrees when the sun goes behind a cloud. And you can either complain to the people around you about the crazy weather or you can pretend like putting your winter jacket on in June is completely alright with you. Overall it is a good place to live, if you have any specific question, just ask, this was all kinda generalized from my experiences.

The recovery after the last recession is a jobless one: meaning that good jobs are substituted with lower paying ones (between 30 to 50k per annum). The last Statistics Canada report mentioned 15.000 jobs in natural resources lost this year so far, many of them in Alberta.

The city tries to be like New York in naming its streets with numbers instead of names, and has signs that say 'the street formerly known as a street with a name' is now a street with a number. They use a grid system that is confusing, because if you get the last two letters wrong, you're in a completely different part of the city. Parking is extremely expensive and there is no history in the city, compared to places like Montreal. The pizza is the worst of any city in Canada, and the only good place burned to the ground. I think that restaurant was a front for organized crime. Many people there don't believe in evolution and think that the oil in the province was God given. The city was built for the car and so is just one big suburb. If Canada had an award for worst city to live in, Calgary would be it.

I agree humidity is the worst

Your videos providing lots of information about Calgary and Canada ... Keep it up buddy.

I've lived here 33 years and believe me it's not what its cracked up to be. If you enjoy long winters this is the place to be.

The roads in general are full of construction
Living expenses here are also incredibly exorbident.
Some love Calgary. I have lived here since 1998, but I am over it now. But I can see why some people like it. Its better than many other cities. But there are a lot of cons that eventually wear on you, mainly the winter driving and the nearly year round crap weather.
Igor, I was born in Calgary and lived here all my life. You are 100% correct!! But I don't think I'd ever move.

Kinda. The competition can be fierce though since most businesses prefer full time workers
@@harrisondwlight7813 Ew Edmonton? Edmonton is a literal dump full of crime, but since you're from Miami you wouldn't notice.
@@jlluna2633 haha
Not everywhere here in Edmonton, , where do you live in canada
@@harrisondwlight7813 Calgary which is like 1000x better than trashmonton
Wow..... first snow !!!!❄️ ⛄️ ❤️💖
Please made video on Vancouver ❤️💖
Calgary is the worst city to live in with people who suffers with seasonal allergies like myself
despite you say that and its ranked as a clean and friendly city. its the gateway to the rockies
Then don't live there u idiot. I love Canada 🍁
@@vimalcurio reead my comment again you idiot. Im not talking shit about canada. Ive been here for 15 years and you probably not even canadian
Hey igor..wats up?Please tell me about the status of tourism field..actually m from hotel field thats wy m asking..is there tourism regarding jobs or no???
I lived in Calgary for 38 years. I didn't like all the homeless, the natives or the crime. I live in Medicine Hat now. I don't like the weather here, but no homeless and its safe
The Prairie weather is great. The financial rape by city hall and the provincial government is crazy. Move out of the big city and into smaller rural areas where smaller infastructure means less taxes.
Igor, this snow makes us stronger. I made a snow man in your image and made love it it last night.
In all seriousness this city is actually going to hell. The crime and poverty is getting out of control
Another reason not to move to Calgary...The Flames....all kidding aside Calgary is a nice city. Good video!
i love it here in calgary
been here since 2011

Lol the unpredictable weather is what I love about Calgary. The headaches go away after awhile and usually only affect those who lived at lower altitudes for long periods of time. The mountains every day on your skyline make up for it. Betting on Oil and gas isn't a smart bet anymore and that should be evident to anyone with a brain.
Will Calgary prosper in the coming few years?
The way it's going I wish, but I doubt it
Call me a pessimist, but I don't think so since the economy is focused around oil. Correct me if I'm wrong.
