+ilovenintendo1999 You sound like a 15 years old who was not around for the 16bit era and who whines a lot because he can't appreciate something that is older then him.
+cualquiercosaax Green Hill Zone is number one really? There are so many better stages from the 16 bit games. Palmtree Panic Zone from Sonic CD is far better and way cooler. Its another dumb choice like having the super mushroom be the number 1 spot on the best Mario power ups list
No level from Sonic Colors is a little bit surprising to me. I mean, it's one of the most commonly loved Sonic games and has some damn memorable stages. Not even saying I'd put a lot of Sonic Colors levels on the list, but still, it seems unusual.
***** Ahh, because they said "stages", not "acts". The Act 1s of Sonic Colors are commonly loved, but the other ones are often criticized a lot for being 2D-heavy, slow and gimmicky. I get it now.
Silver The "Psychic" Hedgehog I can see that. I mean, it's the fan-favorite stage from one of the fan-favorite Sonic games. Awesome concept, beautiful environments, great soundtrack, what's there not to love.
Pickled Potatoes yeah pretty much. Unleashed is also the fastest Sonic has moved in a modern game to this day soooo really any Unleashed day stage should be superior in my opinion because that speed is exhilarating.
IKR I played it on my gamecube as a kid and it's one of my fondest memories and probably the first song I ever remember hearing. On top of it being memorable, it was a generally great level
MyNameisAfram Man yeah same, I replayed the whole game a while back and I'm like "why did I like this again?" But then the song comes on, that's when I pop off
NotEnoughSalsa not to mention stardust speedway,Marble garden,Aquatic ruin, radical highway, pumpkin Hill, spring yard.. wait,....how da fuq did marble zone make it on here....
To be honest I would have laughed if they omitted planet wisp, seaside hill, and stardust speedway. Then jus slapping something like west metropolis from shadow the hedgehog on there.
Sonic Unleashed is my favorite Modern Sonic game. Unleashed version of Rooftop Run is so much fun, but Generations version of Rooftop Run is just lackluster in my opinion.
Favorite Zone from each game (Main Series): Sonic The Hedgehog (1991) - Star Light Zone Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Mystic Cave Zone Sonic The Hedgehog 3 - Hydro City Zone Sonic & Knuckles - Flying Battery Zone Sonic Chaos - N/A Sonic CD - Stardust Speedway Sonic 3D Blast - Green Grove Zone Sonic Adventure - Speed Highway Sonic Pocket Adventure - N/A Sonic Adventure 2 - City Escape (Hero), Radical Highway (Dark) Sonic Advance - Ice Mountain Zone Sonic Advance 2 - Hot Crater Zone Sonic Heroes - Frog Forest Zone Sonic Advance 3 - Ocean Ruin Zone Sonic Rush - Night Carnival Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) - Crisis City Sonic Rush Adventure - Coral Cave Sonic Unleashed - Cool Edge (Day), Rooftop Run (Night) Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 - Splash Hill Zone Sonic Colors - Aquarium Park Sonic Generations - City Escape Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 - White Park Zone Sonic Lost World - Desert Ruins Sonic Mania - Mirage Saloon Zone Sonic Forces - Mystic Jungle
Cool lists. For Stardust Speedway, my favorite is Quartz Quadrant. I believe it to be the best looking stage in the game and one of the most beautiful in any 2d platforner.
im sorry but i dont think sonic chaos and sonic 3d blast are canon, not to mention the sonic advance serious, and sonic 4 episodes 1 and 2 and not to mention sonic pocket adventure
Why is White Jungle an honorable mention? Radical Highway is a WAY more memorable Shadow SA2 stage. Also, handheld games got no love... was hoping to see Water Palace from Sonic Rush
IKR, and Green Forest is like the superior version of that level. I just found it very random that White jungle gets an honorable mention. Radical Highway is kinda boring though, its just that the music is cool.
+TheLegend1800 Yeah I alo wondered why they put that on the list. White Jungle is my least favorite Shadow stage in SA2. But you're right, Sonic Rush absolutely NEEDS to be on this list (Huge Crisis, Water Palace, Night Carnival are awesome), so do the GBA and Game gear games.
Adam McLean yea better than generations, S GEN had too many 2D platforming for modern sonic which made him boring as fuck, I mean I wanna boost, better of with unleashed in RR that stage is AMAZING
The Sonic Adventure duo of games are CRIMINALLY underrated. So much good stuff in there. Sure, there's some superfluous dull too but the Sonic levels are brilliant.
Izaiah Ruelas The Sonic sections in Unleashed are awesome. I think many people just couldn't see beyond the Warehog bits which, I agree, is a shame. That said, I really, really love the Adventure games.
STOP PUTTING SOMETHING IN #1 JUST BECAUSE IT'S THE FIRST OR THE MOST POPULAR. It shows fans that you don't know anything about the things you are talking about
Just because it's iconic, doesn't make it good level. Don't get me wrong, it's a great level. But it's kinda tiring to see people give it so much praise because "it's iconic."
Also that zone is not worth an honorable mention what about a stage from sonic heroes idk but the list is solid enough green hill zone should not be st number 1
+Leonard Fiedrowicz well generations levels are just recreations of old levels from previous games, and they probably wanted to show off the original stages.
+Leonard Fiedrowicz well generations levels are just recreations of old levels from previous games, and they probably wanted to show off the original stages.
It makes sense, though. Sonic Generations was very much a tribute to all of Sonic's best moments, so of course it would feature the best levels from the series.
Really surprised with the White Jungle mention, thought I was hipster for favoring that stage lol. Most people think of Radical Highway for Shadow instead. Cool list, can't believe City Escape didn't make top 3 though
I love Whige Jungle too oh yeah hurry to the unexplored land (8) i also like Final Chase but i think i am the only who like that stage. For a strange reason i dont like Sjy Rail
My top five 1. Jungle Joyride 2. Rooftop Run 3. Dragon Road 4. Kingdom Valley 5. Crisis City (Sonic Generations Version) also Sonic Unleashed was good.
And you have to admit that despite the low quality of the game, some stages in Sonic 2006 were pretty good--although those were ruined by the glitches. I can't say much for the bleak Shadow the Hedgehog stages, though.
Not if you ignore the skylanders-rejected character designs, nintendo-based environments, shoddy gameplay, reduced speed, and toddler-written plot. In that case, yes, wonderful game. :l
I'm seriously confused nothing from Sonic CD made this list. Tidal Tempest, Wacky Work Bench and Stardust Speedway could replace earlier entries and make an honourable mention!
Its done by popular votes, rather than actual critical analysis. Honestly, Final Rush from SA2 is the best 3D Sonic stage ever, in my opinion. 2nd place is Speed Highway from SA1. Stages like that is what Sonic is about.
Dude, why is sonic unleashed so hated? I'm pretty sure that if Sonic Unleashed was released in the sonic's 15th anniversary, it wouldn't be so much underrated, because there wouldn't be any sonic 06 to ruin sonic Unleashed's reputation!!! argh The werehog stages aren't that bad as people say, the day stages are way faster and shorter, but the werehog stages are longer and slower, and what is the problem of going slow as the werehog? at least they made a cool form for a beat'em-up? at least it isn't a sonic boom style of beat em up! It seems like people being pessimistic about sonic/hating sonic are so common, that if you say that you like sonic, everyone thinks you are dumb! Oh, and did he say that sonic unleashed. isn't a very polished game? *TRIGGERED* Sega tried their best to make sonic unleashed a game so good that could make people forget about 06 and even after 10 years, 06 still ruins sonic's reputation!
It's only because of the werehog. They overlook the fantastic story and game play as normal Sonic, and solely focus on the werehog. I mean, because you know, the werehog takes up THE ENTIRE GAME! Am I right?
Galaxy_ _Eye Not really. I think the Werehog was one of the best parts of the game. It was an innovative idea and I enjoyed it. Some people say that the combat was boring and repetitive but I thought that with each combat level up, a new playing technique was unlocked; not just a new move. P.S I don't really like Knuckles that much after playing '06 recently and getting stuck to walls.
Nice Castle in the Sky reference! That whole game was clearly inspired by that film. Also, the "conveniently placed snowboard" was originally a door busted off the airship from the previous level, until the level order was changed in development. Sonic Team went on to use that idea in Sonic Adventure 2.
Let's not forget that Sky Sanctuary also had epic fights as Mecha Sonic especially if you're playing as Knuckles. Hydrocity, City Escape, & Green Hill Zone don't belong on the top10 if you ask me. Because of White Jungle being on the honorable mentions it's clear they don't have to be Sonic's stages. I personally like Metal Harbor, Pumpkin Hill, White Jungle, & most of Eggman's stages in SA2 Battle more than City Escape. City Escape is just a 1st level with tons of nostalgia going for it. How are EggFleet & Cannon's Core not even honorable mentions?
@@El_Mince Yeah that's what I said, the original sonic adventure has aged very well apart of the in game cutscenes! They can't say this game has aged badly while showing dx footage, that's what I meant
06 may have been a... REALLY...bad game, but the actual level designs themselves for the most part are pretty good. Kinda open, wants you to look around a little, see what's up like SA1 levels. Most generations ports even keep most of the level design as well. It was the shitty controls that destroyed what could have been a great game
They blatantly admitted that it's more about the iconography than anything. And green hill zone from sonic 1 is one of the most iconic levels of any game, not just sonic.
seriously, what does watch mojo have against sonic unleashed? most fans like either the daytime or nighttime stages, and some like both. THE GAME WAS NOT A FAILURE!
It's not a good game. The night stages are vapid beat-em-up garbage, and the day stages are "hold boost and win" roller coasters with no actual level design.
Boost to win is just an over used statement seriously just stop. Boosting is an essential component to the 3D sonic games. Think of Sonic 3 and Sonic 2 what do you mostly do? Spindash so why don't people say Spindash to win??? Because people just want to hate on Modern Sonic. Also the werehog isn't that bad, it had decent platforming and helped players not stress out about controls not acting up like the day stages. Unleashed is not that bad of a game and is not perfect either so that's my opinion so don't take it to seriously.
It's essential because the game is poorly designed. There's no interplay with boosting. You hold the button to run through enemies, accumulate more boost, and finish the stage faster. Spin dash requires you to stop, limits your ability to change direction (something actually required in quality Sonic games), and provides one boost of momentum (a concept that modern Sonic games completely ignore, despite it being the defining element of Sonic's gameplay), rather than a continuous surge. There Werehog stages were decent on the PS2/Wii version, but utter garbage on the PS3/360. The latter version is slow, clumsy, has poor detection when executing platforming maneuvers, and he has a terrible jump. Like the game all you want, but it's objectively poorly designed. Generations is a better game through-and-through, but Sonic Mania is the game that is going to save Sonic.
AlonditeMX, *Claps Hands* Well I gotta hand it to ya you have a point, but the majority of the comments say that Unleashed was good but meh that's just your opinion and our opinion so fair point. And good argument.
Also, why is it that every critic out there hates Sonic the Hedgehog?! They always act like Mario is the ultimate poster boy of games but I’m sure that even Mario has had a bad game or two and not so spectacular levels.
Let me list some reasons it's not on the list: 15 minutes long. You have to complete three rather stupid side quests to even access it. It's BORING AS HELL. Shadow's stage has a hovercraft section filled with bullshit one-hit kill falling towers. Shadow's stage has a Rouge section in which you have to find keys, in a huge stage, with no radar. You play as Silver in Sonic's stage. You play as Sonic in Silver's stage. Sonic's stage has a mach-speed section, bullshit-filled like all other mach-speed sections in the game. If you get a Game Over, you have to do the whole stage over again, all 15 minutes of it, plus load times, plus side quests if you didn't save after doing them. And each side quest gives you four load times, plus the four load times of the stage itself means you'll spend 4 minutes on loading screens alone. Did I mention it's boring as hell?
CozmicVideos tl;dr Early salt noted. Why hate on such a fun stage, though? And the length is a bad thing? It's usually around 3 minutes into most stages that I start getting excited, but a lot of stages in most games last only 3 at most. That's no good.
ShonowtH I think that for 3D Sonic games, 5-7 minutes is a good length for a stage. NOT 15 minutes. Kingdom Valley has its little fun parts (like Shadow's hang gliding section, the only one that isn't a glorified loading screen), but it's way too long (especially Sonic's stage) and has way too much bullshit (like the rest of Sonic 06 tbh) to be considered any good.
CozmicVideos If you say so. I loved every bit of Sonic's variant of it. The mach segment, especially. When that game had yet to be released, I cried when I saw that part of the trailer. XD Playing it felt way too good to say the "meh" of the rest of the stage isn't a good time.
Dorito Rancho Ikr? Sonic Unleashed was the turning point for the franchise. Boost formula, gorgeous graphics, those awesome CG cutscenes, character building, awesome levels, great story, oh and it’s the fastest modern Sonic game to date.
@@LoxyTheReindeer Unleashed, just over 10 years later, STILL holds up graphically speaking extremely well. Everyone moves so fluid like, and that opening cutscene! You'd think Pixar made it! The story is one of the best, rivaled only by Black Knight. It got what Sonic was supposed to be, though a little more serious than usual he still kept his head up and didn't really come off as cheesy or trying to hard to be cool. He just was. It has my favorite line in a Sonic game as well, as cringey as it sounds it comes off great and even makes you crack a smile that just tells anyone "it's gonna be ok." "Do I need a reason to wanna help out a friend?" That right there is a HUGE part of what makes Sonic a likeable person. He's not out to be this tryhard super hero with bad one liners (which is what the new "stories" have him as) he's just a guy out to do what he thinks is right and have some fun along the way.
Jokerson Thank you! Unleashed has aged incredibly and let’s be honest, aside from a few moments in Colors, Lost World, and *maybe* one or two scenes from Forces, is the last game that looks like it had some effort put into the story and the feels that story should give. I’ll give Forces credit, it tried, but kinda failed. Especially in comparison to Unleashed. Colors had its moment when Sonic pushed Tails into the elevator to insure his safety, and since Colors was more laid back, that’s all we really needed. Lost World had the whole secondary plot of Sonic learning from his mistakes and almost losing Tails, which made me kinda want more since its characters are lack-luster and the plot is all over the place. But Unleashed, woah. The simple fact that in one of the ending CG cutscenes Sonic told Chip to run because he feared he wouldn’t make it.... that’ll hit ya hard. And that friendship they made even though they’ll never see each other again. Really wish Sega included Chips bracelet in Sonic’s model instead of leaving it in the dust. And that line you mentioned, I couldn’t help but go “awwww” and smile at that moment. It was so beautiful seeing Sonic stick by Chips side, because they’re friends, not because he “had to be a hero”. Which is what I liked in Black Knight, 1, the line of “It was never about chivalry for me, I just gotta do what I gotta do, that’s all.” That is just plain awesome. Also the line of “Guess I can’t always be the hero.” The fact that he is ok with being a “bad guy” if it means saving the world. I wish they would bring that personality back. Snarky and sarcastic, but knows when it’s time to be serious and also caring and understanding.
@@LoxyTheReindeer I will say I HATED Sonic in Lost World. He was WAY to whiney and he'd never trust Eggman over Tails. He'd tell Eggman to beat it, and he and Tails would go shut everything down. I liked the part where Tails is caught and Sonic feels guilty, but they went nowhere with it. His dialogue OH MY GOD! "That was, cool. Pun entirely intended." That was probably the only time I went "oh shut up Sonic." Sonic does crack jokes, but they're witty and actually pretty good. Colors I didn't mind the story. It was different, but something felt off. Everyone just stood around and talked. Fine, not everything needs to be an action scene. Sonic shoving Tails felt right and him facing down the final threat felt very "Sonic" to me. Everything else was...ok? Just not for me.
Jokerson I admit Lost World was the downfall of his personality. Again I liked the sub-plot of him having to learn from his mistakes but it could’ve been handled a lot better. Anddd I agree with you on the dialogue. He’s sarcastic, not a childish jokester. In Colors everything was laid back which I didn’t mind but I do wish that they stuck with his personality from Unleashed. He’s a little too much of jokester, doesn’t know when it’s time to be serious. But then again we got the “No copyright law is going to stop me!” quote, which just made me laugh because we all know who says that and what happens to them. But also Colors was directed towards a much younger crowd. Tells ya all you need to know.
Sonic unleashed was super good xD I mean, it marked the turning point of sonic. Just because the night stages weren't liked by many doesn't mean the entire game was terrible. Thats like saying i hated the minigames in Kingdom hearts. The whole game is terrible now just because a part of the game was bad.
10. Star Light Zone 9. Rusty Ruin Zone (Genesis/ Saturn) 8. Metallic Madness Zone (USA- Present, Good Future, Bad Future) 7. Lava Reef Zone 6. Quartz Quadrant Zone (USA- Past, Good Future, Bad Future) 5. Scrambled Egg Zone (Sonic 2 for GG) 4. Green Hills Zone (Sonic 2 for GG) 3. Crisis City 2. Stardust Speedway Zone (USA- Bad Future, Present/ JAP- Bad Future) 1. Collision Chaos Zone (USA-Present/ JAP- Good Future) Honorable Mention -Hot Shelter -All kinds of SA and SA2 stages
10. It's okay. I could never beat the mini boss when I just had S3 as a kid for some reason, but it's... well, it's all right, especially for a water stage. 9. Haven't played it enough or recently enough to really have an opinion. 8. S'all good. 7. It's not that bad once you get the hang of it, really. It's always fun riding around on rails and finding new shortcuts! 6. Meh. 5. YASSSSSS 4. Gets a thumbs up from me. 3. Nope nope nope. Too many bouncy things. You feel like you can't control yourself half the time if you don't jump is juuuuuust the right spot. The slot machines are addicting though. Do I have a problem? 2. YASSSSSS 1. Well, it IS the one that made Sonic famous. Yeah, it's pretty good. Not my favorite, but still sweet. Marble Zone was the cause of so many ragequits when I was a wee lass. I don't find it so hard anymore, but I like it. I love the song and the environment (purple is my 2nd favorite color though so I'm biased xD). Anyone know what those bat badniks are called? It's puzzled me since I was a kid, since they're not in the manual... White Jungle? YASSSSSS Emerald Coast is good. Launch Base Zone is... meh. Star Light Zone? YASSSSSS
OMG FINALLY SOMEONE WHO THINKS UNLEASHED IS GOOD YAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAUAYYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYY
No, the thing is its listed as one word in sonic 3, unlike every other zone (angel island, marble garden, carnival night, etc.) I'm pretty sure its pronounced hydrawcity, otherwise it'd be listed as "hydro city"
Gabe Newell Actually it was one of the greatest Sonic games in the series. Unfortunately though it's underrated and doesn't get the credit it deserves.
Chemical Plant Zone should be at #1. It's got a cool layout and design, and the music is just epic as hell. Everytime I play Sonic 2, I just want to get to the Chemical Plant Zone. For the music mostly 👌
Donald Trump's Liberal Cousin I wish I could say "Good!" As if I played the game but I never have but I generally dislike hatred of any Sonic game. The only game I hate myself is ShTH.
+RoseOfTheNight4444 Really? You don't like Shadow the Hedgehog? And you like every single other Sonic game? I already own all of them (including obscure arcade cabinets), so I'm definitely well-versed in all things Sonic. That said, I'd like to hear you defend Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic Shuffle, and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. You'd be hard-pressed to come up with some positives for those games.
Sonic Unleashed isn't a bad game. It only gets a bad rap for the Werehog, and the boost, even though it's one of the most fundamental mechanics to 3D Sonic.
Boost isn't fundamental to 3D Sonic, it's more 2 1/2 D Sonic if you ask me. Now if you want 3D Sonic you should play Sonic Adventure & SA2 Battle. Still though Unleashed wasn't a bad Sonic Game, if you want bad look no further than most of the Sonic Games starting in 2010.

I would’ve even taken cool edge from holaska. I thought that stage was fun.
Even Holoska day is beautiful as hell, and beats many of the stages in this list.

Sonic Unleashed is very underrated, the ps3/x360 version is great. The "werewolf mode" isn't that bad.
I prefer Unleashed over Generations any day.
+Silver The "Psychic" Hedgehog
Same, tbh.
Monkey D. "Straw Hat" Luffy You know me lol
I know, this game is awesome. I love play like the Werehog and going really fast.... but apparently was a bad thing about the game... too fast?
Johnauditore
Yeah. The control was a little slippery and the level design was too Boost happy. But I liked Unleashed for what it was.
No level from Sonic Colors is a little bit surprising to me. I mean, it's one of the most commonly loved Sonic games and has some damn memorable stages. Not even saying I'd put a lot of Sonic Colors levels on the list, but still, it seems unusual.

+timmifutz I like Planet Wisp. It's my favorite Sonic level.
I don't lik Sonic Colors, it's way too automated, and some stages only last like 20 seconds.
Silver The "Psychic" Hedgehog I can see that. I mean, it's the fan-favorite stage from one of the fan-favorite Sonic games. Awesome concept, beautiful environments, great soundtrack, what's there not to love.

DID THEY FORGET EVERY SINGLE DAYTIME STAGE?!?

@ Not really, there are a fair number of tricky sections in each stage that aren't press X to win.
@ In Sonic, there are other ways to make a level great without heavy 3D platforming. However, I do think they should have more of that too.
Nostalgia should not be a reason for picking green hill zone
How about bc it's a good level now be quiet young boy
@Spaceman Alph now THAT is a good comeback,I prefer green hill modern from sonic generations
@Spaceman Alph agreed
I love green hill zone and its music.
Eric Stine emerald hill and angel island were more fun
I want to know how City Escape isnt #1 ........
IKR I played it on my gamecube as a kid and it's one of my fondest memories and probably the first song I ever remember hearing. On top of it being memorable, it was a generally great level

I like Casino Park, that level was the most fun i had on Sonic Heroes
To be honest I would have laughed if they omitted planet wisp, seaside hill, and stardust speedway. Then jus slapping something like west metropolis from shadow the hedgehog on there.
Because Seaside Hill is from the worst Sonic game ever.
No Sonic Heroes???

Arnav Saral love sonic unleashed
+Arnav Saral Yo I actually agree.
Sonic Unleashed is my favorite Modern Sonic game. Unleashed version of Rooftop Run is so much fun, but Generations version of Rooftop Run is just lackluster in my opinion.
I never had a problem with it, and it created colors, generations, and forces

I LOVE STAR LIGHT ZONE!!!
Everyone loves city escape
Who here likes Emerald Coast from Sonic Adventure
me
I do
Same here, and it's such a fun stage to play, especially on the part with Sonic getting chased by killer whales. ;)
R Peraza right here!!
Emerald Coast > City Escape
In my opinion, City escape from Sonic adventure 2 still holds that number place in my heart. This game literally was my childhood
I like them both, Radical highway and Withe jungle. Both are greats but yes, Raducla highway is more memorable
God, I was stuck on Water Palace for ages as a kid! I still loved it, though,
+TheLegend1800 Yeah I alo wondered why they put that on the list. White Jungle is my least favorite Shadow stage in SA2.
But you're right, Sonic Rush absolutely NEEDS to be on this list (Huge Crisis, Water Palace, Night Carnival are awesome), so do the GBA and Game gear games.
+TheLegend1800 Water Palace is alright. Dead Line, Blizzard Peaks, Machine Labrynth, those are where its at.
What's your deal with unleashed?
NoahzArk771 ikr unleashed is like the best sonic game ever
Adam McLean yea better than generations, S GEN had too many 2D platforming for modern sonic which made him boring as fuck, I mean I wanna boost, better of with unleashed in RR that stage is AMAZING
I prefer generations
it's just a popular opinion so the narrator decided to jump on the bandwagon, he prob never actually played the game
Not my favorite, but it is a great game!
Not a single level from Sonic Colours? Seriously...
Colors sucked. So did Unleashed and Generations. Too automated.
+MrKockNoker
They were very Boost to Win, but I still think they were fun games.
Monkey D. "Straw Hat" Luffy
Don't call me a nostalgia tard, but I honestly like SA1 and SA2 style the best. Cuz it's more free-roaming.
+MrKockNoker Well many would disagree with you.
quenzmo
Then I would disagree with them back.
"Marble Hill Zone"
Uhm....
[BeliebigenNamenHinzufügen] [BNH] It's absolutely boring.
I hate Marble Zone myself, but the Name "Marble Hill Zone" is wrong.
Makes me lose my marbles.
The music makes up for how boring it can get sometimes
It lacks more stuff than the crushing sections of Spring Yard and the slow movement of Labyrinth put together
The Sonic Adventure duo of games are CRIMINALLY underrated. So much good stuff in there. Sure, there's some superfluous dull too but the Sonic levels are brilliant.
Actually, people like the adventure titles. Especially the sonic levels.
tcrpgfan Sonic fans do but journos get very sneery. It's a shame.
Ok, sonic adventure is CRIMINALLY overrated. Unleashed doesn't get any love. I love that game.
Izaiah Ruelas The Sonic sections in Unleashed are awesome. I think many people just couldn't see beyond the Warehog bits which, I agree, is a shame. That said, I really, really love the Adventure games.
Um, have you seen the sonic fandom at all? The adventure games aren't underrated they're overrated.
STOP PUTTING SOMETHING IN #1 JUST BECAUSE IT'S THE FIRST OR THE MOST POPULAR. It shows fans that you don't know anything about the things you are talking about
Bar Goldstein As childish your comment may seem. It is extremly logical.
Saeed Wonka How is his comment childish?
Bar Goldstein I'm pretty sure the order of their lists is done by voting. They don't put them in order themselves. S'all in the desc.
Bar Goldstein yea number 2 should have been 1
Don't count on them stopping that anytime soon. When it comes to WatchMojo, whatever course of action gets them more $$$ is what they'll stick to.
What a lazy choice with GHZ as the #1 pick.
Because it's an iconic stage
Just because it's iconic, doesn't make it good level. Don't get me wrong, it's a great level. But it's kinda tiring to see people give it so much praise because "it's iconic."
They dont really give a shit about Sonic
Let's be real, they don't give a flying fuck about _anything_ that doesn't get them that extra $$$.
It's an iconic stage, but it's not even a good stage.
Green Hill is as basic as Sonic zones can get.
They don’t even know that “Marble Hill Zone” dosnt exist. It’s Marble Zone.
Also that zone is not worth an honorable mention what about a stage from sonic heroes idk but the list is solid enough green hill zone should not be st number 1
Problems in this video.
-Green Hill Zone is definitely not the#1 level. I can name a few more better.
-Why no Colors stages?
Yeah, Green hill Zone is number 1 and is suppose to be there.
+Whaleping Davis okay but city escape
opinions
+Leonard Fiedrowicz well generations levels are just recreations of old levels from previous games, and they probably wanted to show off the original stages.
+Leonard Fiedrowicz well generations levels are just recreations of old levels from previous games, and they probably wanted to show off the original stages.
When you realize the most of the stages mentioned here are in Sonic Generations.
my thoughts exactly
It makes sense, though. Sonic Generations was very much a tribute to all of Sonic's best moments, so of course it would feature the best levels from the series.
@@km_studios Ice Cap should've been the Sonic 3 & Knuckles stage and there are too many city stages, but at least the stages themselves are fun.
Really surprised with the White Jungle mention, thought I was hipster for favoring that stage lol. Most people think of Radical Highway for Shadow instead. Cool list, can't believe City Escape didn't make top 3 though
AYYYYY
how do you feel about sky rail? I thought it was fun to play on, but was kinda easy to break with shortcuts
I love Whige Jungle too oh yeah hurry to the unexplored land (8) i also like Final Chase but i think i am the only who like that stage. For a strange reason i dont like Sjy Rail
+StephenKnux fancy seeing you here :) Agreed, I thought City Escape would make it high up there too!
white jungle is one of my favorites for sure. but radical highway is also great
My top five
1. Jungle Joyride
2. Rooftop Run
3. Dragon Road
4. Kingdom Valley
5. Crisis City (Sonic Generations Version)
also Sonic Unleashed was good.
I loved Jungle Joyride, it’s easily the most beautiful and fastest sonic stage yet.
JUNGLE JOYRIDE and DRAGON ROAD,,, Y o u g o t t a s t e
Really? Nothing from "Sonic Heroes"?
And you have to admit that despite the low quality of the game, some stages in Sonic 2006 were pretty good--although those were ruined by the glitches. I can't say much for the bleak Shadow the Hedgehog stages, though.
Jared Groebner Seaside Hill man....
Jared Groebner I'm quite surprised I didn't see Seaside Hill, Hang Castle, Or Final Fortress
It had awesome levels. My faves were Bingo Highway, Egg Fleet and Final Fortress.
Jared Groebner OMG yes
why no Crisis City? that was a good stage
Why no Radical Highway?
Because Sonic 06 was absolute trash.
myteethareshiny At least it isn't as bad as Lost World.
ShonowtH wtf lost world and isn't that bad XD
Not if you ignore the skylanders-rejected character designs, nintendo-based environments, shoddy gameplay, reduced speed, and toddler-written plot. In that case, yes, wonderful game.
:l
I would have also included Frog Forest and Hang Castle from Sonic Heroes.
Mm maybe if that first level would include the Team Chaotix and Team Dark, those versions of that level sucks.
+SpongicX was wondering if sonic heroes would have made it but nope. i love those levels
Man fuck frog forest, that last bit with the giant crocodile is so hectic, it was damn near impossible for me as a child
shadster koala That wasn't really Frog Forest, that was a level that came after Frog Forest.
SpongicX Ahh my mistake then, it's been a while so levels that look the same have just moulded into one memory
I swear if city escape aint top 3...
Edit: They put it as #5, and Green Hill as #1. I unsubbed just because of this...
Stardust speedway - Sonic CD
Bar Goldstein Ah, i see you are a man of culture as well...
I'm seriously confused nothing from Sonic CD made this list. Tidal Tempest, Wacky Work Bench and Stardust Speedway could replace earlier entries and make an honourable mention!
Bar Goldstein and Metallic Madness!
Bar Goldstein I was expecting to see that high on the list. I love that level
Bar Goldstein Agree.
Your video games tops are predictible and inthernet bassed.
+Puerta al Sótano their selections are based on user votes, what do you expect?
Typical watchmojo, putting the most iconic (usually the first of it's kind) on top of the list instead of the best one =/
+Da Juice although green hill zone is definitely a good stage.
Its done by popular votes, rather than actual critical analysis. Honestly, Final Rush from SA2 is the best 3D Sonic stage ever, in my opinion. 2nd place is Speed Highway from SA1. Stages like that is what Sonic is about.
+Da Juice this time quality IS nostalgia...playing sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles you will undestand...
"sonic unleash isnt good"
D= wh-what....?
Dude, why is sonic unleashed so hated?
I'm pretty sure that if Sonic Unleashed was released in the sonic's 15th anniversary, it wouldn't be so much underrated, because there wouldn't be any sonic 06 to ruin sonic Unleashed's reputation!!!
argh
The werehog stages aren't that bad as people say, the day stages are way faster and shorter, but the werehog stages are longer and slower, and what is the problem of going slow as the werehog?
at least they made a cool form for a beat'em-up?
at least it isn't a sonic boom style of beat em up!
It seems like people being pessimistic about sonic/hating sonic are so common, that if you say that you like sonic, everyone thinks you are dumb!
Oh, and did he say that sonic unleashed. isn't a very polished game?
*TRIGGERED*
Sega tried their best to make sonic unleashed a game so good that could make people forget about 06
and even after 10 years, 06 still ruins sonic's reputation!
Kelvin Melo I second this
It's hated because it's a poorly-designed game.
Taynara Melo even boom wasnt that bad (probably because the cartoon is actually good)
👍🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
It's just the horrible sonic fanbase hating for no reason
WHY THE FUCK DO YOU KEEP HATING ON UNLEASHED!!!!???
It's really IGN.
It's only because of the werehog. They overlook the fantastic story and game play as normal Sonic, and solely focus on the werehog. I mean, because you know, the werehog takes up THE ENTIRE GAME! Am I right?
would you like unleashed more if they replaced the werehog with knuckles and edited the story a bit so knuckles can fit in?
Galaxy_ _Eye Not really. I think the Werehog was one of the best parts of the game. It was an innovative idea and I enjoyed it. Some people say that the combat was boring and repetitive but I thought that with each combat level up, a new playing technique was unlocked; not just a new move.
P.S I don't really like Knuckles that much after playing '06 recently and getting stuck to walls.
I liked the Werehog too just sayin :D just comin over with the Knuckles idea :). Best stage in unleashed for me was Mazuri day
WatchMojo: Do you agree with our list?
Sonic (Voice from Heroes): NOOOOOO!
Nice Castle in the Sky reference! That whole game was clearly inspired by that film. Also, the "conveniently placed snowboard" was originally a door busted off the airship from the previous level, until the level order was changed in development. Sonic Team went on to use that idea in Sonic Adventure 2.
did the text seriously say marble hill zone for the honorable mention
William Mitchell marble hill is bullshit tho
How did marble zone get on the list that level was shit, hmm I wonder if he meant marble garden
how the hell do you not realize its called marble zone
THERE IS NO ''HILL'' WATCHMOJO
Marble Garden Zone is way more exciting to play than Marble Zone.
That zone is boring
Planet Wisp should have been here or at least in honorable mentions
Tito Ramirez What about Starlight Carnival?
Tito Ramirez don't mention fucking Planet Wisp, that shit is the hardest level in sonic history by far and the most unattractive one.
Speaking of which why the fuck was marble zone in hm
replace it with fucking marble zone
one of my favorites lol i loved the music when i was little :3
The fact that you placed Hydrocity as the last in your top 10 and Green Hill zone in #1 makes me cringe :v
makes me cringe harder that he put marble zone in honorable mentions
I feel like this list is WatchMojo.com opinions instead of everyone else's.
sky sanctuary would have been my top pick for that game for the theme tune alone
@@BlandyBoiYT White Jungle is Shadow's counterpart to Sonic's Green Forest.
Green Hill Zone is just so classic
"sonic adventure might not have aged well" (shows sonic adventure dx footage)
The original game actually looks pretty sharp
@@El_Mince Yeah that's what I said, the original sonic adventure has aged very well apart of the in game cutscenes! They can't say this game has aged badly while showing dx footage, that's what I meant
This list is a huge joke.
DoctorEggRobo 64 coming from eggman's army lol
Agreed.. Shit list. No scrap brain zone, starlight zone, metropolis zone... Nothing great about the ones listed...
I swear only 2 of these are from the year 2000 of onwards
silence
Ice Cap should have been around 3 or 2
City Escape and Radical Highway will always be my favourite ^^
Watch Mojo really hates unleashed
I also love Ice Cap Zone
Honestly the train level from sonic 06 was a lot of fun
06 is a good game.
Brace yourselves, Sonic fans with their "original" stages are coming.
City escape probably the most memorable song from my childhood when I played that game
City escape was really fun. I had fond memories with it.
Chemical plant takes a lower spot than green hill... green hill is hardly a thrilling stage, i'd say sonic 2's emerald hill is far better.
agreed
They just picked Green Hill since it's the very first stage in the first game. I also prefer Emerald Hill.
They blatantly admitted that it's more about the iconography than anything. And green hill zone from sonic 1 is one of the most iconic levels of any game, not just sonic.
I honestly don't see what's so iconic about it. City Escape is far more iconic in my opinion. Oh and I prefer Emerald Hill and Angel Island.
Yes
seriously, what does watch mojo have against sonic unleashed?
most fans like either the daytime or nighttime stages, and some like both. THE GAME WAS NOT A FAILURE!
DarkFrozenDepths Don't get so worked up. watchmojo isn't comprised of people who think.
Don't listen to watch mojo when they say sonic unleashed isn't a good game.
JourneyWithJC Don't listen to them at all. Ever. They never get anything right.
It's not a good game. The night stages are vapid beat-em-up garbage, and the day stages are "hold boost and win" roller coasters with no actual level design.
Boost to win is just an over used statement seriously just stop. Boosting is an essential component to the 3D sonic games. Think of Sonic 3 and Sonic
2 what do you mostly do?
AlonditeMX, *Claps Hands*
Well I gotta hand it to ya you have a point, but the majority of the comments say that Unleashed was good but meh that's just your opinion and our opinion so fair point. And good argument.
Also, why is it that every critic out there hates Sonic the Hedgehog?! They always act like Mario is the ultimate poster boy of games but I’m sure that even Mario has had a bad game or two and not so spectacular levels.
Hotel Mario and Mario is Missing.
I can't believe they forgot the kingdom valley stage from Sonic the Hedgehog 2006
+teegan matthews Finally someone says this.
Let me list some reasons it's not on the list:
15 minutes long.
CozmicVideos tl;dr
Early salt noted.
Come on man !No Radical Highway ? No metal harbor ? Really ?
ValkeSaveUs and no stardust speedway
Mine are;
10 Hilltop Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog 2)
9 Meteor Herd (Sonic Adventure 2)
8 Final Rush (Sonic Adventure 2)
7 Metallic Madness (Sonic CD)
6 Speed Highway (Sonic Adventure)
5 Spring Yard Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog)
4 Mazuri Day (Sonic Unleashed)
3 White Jungle (Sonic Adventure 2)
2 Planet Wisp (Sonic Colours)
1 Water Palace (Sonic Rush)
Honourable mentions: Angel island (Sonic Advance), Radical Highway (Sonic Adventure 2) & Sonic 3 (Launch Base Zone).
The Irish Bandit This is a list I agree on
"Sonic Unleashed is far from blue hedgehog finest hour"
Bro...
Shut up...
It has my favorite line in a Sonic game as well, as cringey as it sounds it comes off great and even makes you crack a smile that just tells anyone "it's gonna be ok."
"Do I need a reason to wanna help out a friend?"
That right there is a HUGE part of what makes Sonic a likeable person.
Pun entirely intended."
That was probably the only time I went "oh shut up Sonic." Sonic does crack jokes, but they're witty and actually pretty good.
I'd have to say my fave is definitely the Rooftop Run in Unleashed, but also love City Escape, Green Hill & Speed Highway to death :D
1:27"amazing, everything you just said was wrong"
ALEMA THE TITAN facts like I really love the werehog stages as equal to daytime
Sonic unleashed was super good xD I mean, it marked the turning point of sonic. Just because the night stages weren't liked by many doesn't mean the entire game was terrible. Thats like saying i hated the minigames in Kingdom hearts. The whole game is terrible now just because a part of the game was bad.
Good point
Yeah Unleashed was 1 of the 3 last good Sonic games, the others were Black Knight & Mania.
WHAT ABOUT COLORS AND GENERATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
10. Star Light Zone
9. Rusty Ruin Zone (Genesis/ Saturn)
8. Metallic Madness Zone (USA- Present, Good Future, Bad Future)
7. Lava Reef Zone
6. Quartz Quadrant Zone (USA- Past, Good Future, Bad Future)
5. Scrambled Egg Zone (Sonic 2 for GG)
4. Green Hills Zone (Sonic 2 for GG)
3. Crisis City
2. Stardust Speedway Zone (USA- Bad Future, Present/ JAP- Bad Future)
1. Collision Chaos Zone (USA-Present/ JAP- Good Future)
Honorable Mention
-Hot Shelter
-All kinds of SA and SA2 stages
Dustin Rios you need to try rouge the temptress it will top your list trust me
Chemical Plant Zone is #1 and everyone knows it.
I’m still scarred from dat pink water☹️
Truck license plate letters in both games for City Escape: “GUN”
Most of these stages were in generations
Exactly lol
they were in this video for a reason
because genraitions is a really good game
Because sonic generations is amazing
Nasmere Johnson that's because sonic generations is the best sonic game xD(at least in my opinion)
6. Meh.
5. YASSSSSS
4. Gets a thumbs up from me.
3. Nope nope nope. Too many bouncy things. You feel like you can't control yourself half the time if you don't jump is juuuuuust the right spot. The slot machines are addicting though. Do I have a problem?
2. YASSSSSS
YASSSSSS
Emerald Coast is good.
Launch Base Zone is... meh.
Star Light Zone? YASSSSSS
The Bat Badniks of Marble Zone are called "Bat Brains", I always hated Hydrocity on Sonic 3 personally.
city escape
surprisingly opionated for a WatchMojo video
So sonic heroes gets no love I see?
Nor Sonic Colors
I'm surprised not to see any mention of Green Forest from Sonic Adventure 2, but this is still a really awesome list.
Mine is jungle Joy ride From Unleashed
Davontay Walker same
OMG FINALLY SOMEONE WHO THINKS UNLEASHED IS GOOD YAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAUAYYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYY
And my favourite stage in the sonic franchise is jungle joyride day too btw which jungle joyride is ur fav
never see this one
It's GOTTA be Rooftop Run for me. I just feel so much adrenaline playing on that stage.
0:30
Hydro-C I T Y zone
am i the only one who always read it as
HydrAWE-Cytee zone?
Probably...
No
Squiddie B. I say it like that too.
No, the thing is its listed as one word in sonic 3, unlike every other zone (angel island, marble garden, carnival night, etc.) I'm pretty sure its pronounced hydrawcity, otherwise it'd be listed as "hydro city"
No Sonic 06' stages? :c
Please tell me your trolling
Gabe Newell Why would I be?
+Yafet Okbalidet that game was horrible
Gabe Newell Actually it was one of the greatest Sonic games in the series. Unfortunately though it's underrated and doesn't get the credit it deserves.
+Yafet Okbalidet Hahahahahahahahahaha...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAAAAAAAAA I PRAY FOR YOUR SOUL
Sonic Unleashed may be the first Sonic game where Sonic runs so fast non stop, I love it.
I’m just happy that 3 stages from my favorite Sonic game we’re in here. ♥️ Adventure 2 is amazing.
Adventure 2 sucks and they forgot rouge the temptress from sonic generations
Sonic unleashed needs to be wayyyyy higher
Castle in the sky look like it was made by Studio Ghibli. The same people who made Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service. I know I'm a nerd
Am I the only one thinking that Sonic Unleashed has the most adventurous, fun and memorable stages? The best series for me.
make a top 10 sonic songs
Chemical Plant Zone should be at #1. It's got a cool layout and design, and the music is just epic as hell. Everytime I play Sonic 2, I just want to get to the Chemical Plant Zone. For the music mostly 👌
Aw, no mention of Flying Battery Zone.
Escape From the City on Sonic Adventure 2 is always going to be my number one.
I love it so much
I like all the day levels in Sonic Unleashed were good, but my favorite was Mazuri Day.
Me too, but I loved Rooftop Run, nice experience and the music as well
Dragon road day was it for me
Mine was Eggmanland....now i need to buy a new controler
+_Ichimaru_ fuck eggman land
I LOVE that stage
What, no Sonic Colors or Sonic Heroes?
No love for Sonic CD as usual ;__;
+Klookko Isn't that game with little love anyway? I rarely hear about it :(
+Klookko The aesthetics of the game are nice too! Not even an honorable mention. :(
+RoseOfTheNight4444 I really like Sonic CD
City escape is one of the most iconic stages of any game imo.
Aquatic Ruin zone from Sonic 2 is my favorite
"Water and Sonic usually don't go hand to hand." *cough cough* Aquarim park...
Where is Stardust Speedway?
So happy that the first ever Sonic the hedgehog stage was placed at number one. Green Hill zone is always the best level
Sonic Unleashed is an awesome game!!!!!!
Sonic Unleashed isn't a bad game. It only gets a bad rap for the Werehog, and the boost, even though it's one of the most fundamental mechanics to 3D Sonic.
Dead Spark042 sonic unleashed is a 0/10 because of the werehog
Boost isn't fundamental to 3D Sonic, it's more 2 1/2 D Sonic if you ask me. Now if you want 3D Sonic you should play Sonic Adventure & SA2 Battle. Still though Unleashed wasn't a bad Sonic Game, if you want bad look no further than most of the Sonic Games starting in 2010.
My Five Favourite Sonic Stages/Zones
