Met Luke the other day whilst delivering to the range Cannock seemed like a top lad and his videos were what inspired me to make the change and become a driver, best decision I've ever made, the happiest I've ever been at work and currently saving for my first house. Keep on trucking dude 👍
Really enjoying you content. Takes me back, driving all over the country for my job. Mostly alright but some days, bloody frustrating. Keep up the easy going attitude. It will keep you mentally healthy.
I've only had my class 2 license since May this year. Your videos have saved me on things I've been to embarrassed to ask the hardened lorry drivers lol. But I'm loving driving a HGV. Class 1 in a few months most definitely. You've got another regular watcher 👍
Please remember that. The vast majority of drivers will help you if they can. Never be afraid, because one day, you may do something and it could be too dangerous or illegal. When i first passed my class 2, i asked questions. All the best to you and drive safe
intriguing…a different slant on HGV driving I, as an armchair driver, was totally unaware of. Ever thought of getting into TV presenting? You’d fly it! Very engaging and made what is seen by most as a very boring job, a very enjoyable watch……impressed!
Do yourself a Huge Favour, don’t wear the Ring whilst working. Rings are incredibly dangerous in an Work Environment. Many a Finger has been lost because of them.
It's funny I was an FLT driver for 8 years till I recently moved on to a HGV driver. My site would initially enforce on day 1 10 pallets high max due to seeing over the pallets. Both when loading curtained at 15 or flatbed at 20s. This changed when they timed it and realised its taking twice the time to do the same job... as well as an inexperienced driver having the potential to stack the second lot off centre leading to issues at unload. So they changed it to 15/ 20 if you're comfortable doing so 😅 they prefered seeing a 15 minute full load instead of 30-45 minutes clearly. Time over safety!
They stack 10 high because when the pallets are back in the factory for checking and repair the workers check in shacks of 5 and it's easy to count stock.
Just found your channel. I am Now a new subscriber. Nice to see the difficulties that HGV drivers go through. I am a milkman and have been for 30 years. Drive safe.
My old man worked for Chep at their place near Birmingham Airport, he remembers when the stack rules changed. It was the result of an incident where a lift truck operator was loading a HGV and was driving forward with a high stack and the stack went over and the top most pallet skimmed across the floor taking the legs from underneath the HGV driver while he was sorting out his curtains. The driver got swept under the trailer and hit his head on the trailer side fairings knocking him unconscious.
'Wont be going to The Range in Avonmouth'. I used to pray to hear them words 3 times a week, but they never came. Must be the worse security lodge I've ever had to fight/beg my way past.Hang on though, and there were the Aldi/Lidl warehouses I still get nightmares about. Congrats on marriage, and as we truckers say, - 'Have a good 'un'.
As someone who loads pallets onto lorries for a living, I use a fork truck with double forks and load 15 high. So I take just 14 lifts to load a lorry. 10-15 minutes max. A tidy well stacked yard ready for our customers ie you lovely lorry drivers. The guys I load love coming to where I work as we are ready and professional and quick.
Hello Luke. I passed you on the M56 today in my old manual Scania with a blue 45ft. container behind me (She does lead on a bit). We made eye contact & i was going to wave hello but i got distracted. Stay happy!
See this is what's crazy with health and safety. They address the risks of pallets falling by reducing stack heights, but don't take into account the extra risks from: the job taking longer so the forklift operating for longer, the risk of hitting someone when lining up pallets and restacking them, and the driver getting annoyed about how long it's taking or their concentration slipping from doing it for so long. Crazy world
We use a similar warning system on our trucks for turning left, on the actual unit there might be a twisty turny thing that turns the volume of that beep down. It's still obnoxiously loud but it does help 😀
When I was a forklift driver we were only allowed to lift 8 high the size of a regular palates goods. We were told the reason was because in wet weather Especially the pallets could slide off and could cause injuries also when driving if you have to stop suddenly they could shift more and fall of the front. Plus it moves the centre of gravity etc. Loads of different reasons.
Trouble with that left turn beeper is if you modify it YOU are liable for any incidents, as you have modified safety features on the vehicle. Doesn’t matter if it’s not involved in the incident either. I’ll agree though it’s annoying. They should be able to turn the volume down for you at least.
I thought i felt the earth shudder on friday, must have been you jumping in that puddle. You can wrap a load of duct tape around that bleeper, does the trick for me and i think some of them also have a little volume roller on it but probably won't do much
Firstly, congratulations on the change of status!! 🎉🎉🎉 secondly at 1:01 and 4:17 into the video, UA-cam have run adverts over it both of those times. Since the video was sponsored I though you’d like to know, I may be wrong but I though UA-cam was not allowed to do that on sponsored videos.
I used to drive a wagon and drag on the chep contract in the midlands, we ran 20 pallets high with 600 on the lorry. The chep employees used to load 60 at a time, 3 stacks of 20 on their FLT, they where good but some of the customers where terrible, used to stack them on 20s but would only load in 10s etc.I loved the job but not some of the customers
I think the 104 lifts thing is ocd its satisfying I prefer to do this sometimes when im loading i line up the pallets and then load its just feels quicker than going backand forth idk
Worked at the factory that made most of UK's chep pallets (we called them GKN back then)used to store in 40s and move around in 20s,can only see moving in 10s necessary where lots of pedestrians which should be segregated from flts anyway.
We use long forks and lift 40 pallets each lift. 2 x 20 stacks. That's 16 lifts of 40 which equals 640 pallets and that still takes a little while. N.Z
yeah picking up a stack, then dropping them closer to the trailer, unless it was to seperate the stacks then it is just wasting time. shame you didn't get to see Martin, but yeah legal requirements are more important, not just the job.
If you do chep a lot bud. I recommend getting a few books from them if you haven’t already. Can write out all your own paperwork etc. I used to always carry a book when I did a lot of Chep work.
Having to wear high vi's jackets all the time are h s gone mad, so are steel capped shoes in many cases and safety belts, so are speed limiters but forever heavier and bigger trucks that is OK, so is being sent out in ice, snow and high winds

With XL rated curtains you don’t need too. If you don’t have XL rated curtains you can use internals, you could use a ratchet strap if you threw it over before it was lifted onto the truck
I remember the days when the forklifts used to pick up 3 stacks at a time, then chep used to take them off 3 stacks at a time, Health & safety, don't you just loved it.
A few months ago cheap were sending us broken pallet's when the company complained they said by such and such a regulation our forks where are 30cm to short basically they told us to kiss their ass
Little inside forklifts are narrow track and on outside pavement that is uneven I can see the problems with pallets stacked high. With a larger forklift with a proper backstop on the mast is less prone to wobbling side to side. Wrong tool for the job.
We have those stupid beeping things in our delivery vans and I swear they're just downright dangerous. We're only driving 3.5t vans so dead-end streets and reversing out on to main roads is just part of the daily routine. We're backing out and all we hear is this ear-piercing scream because something exists somewhere on the planet with 500 miles of our back bumper. Not like we have to listen for traffic or pedestrians or anything, you know?
Warning sounds for turning left. Cameras for turning left, yet when a cyclist comes along your near side while your turning left, it will still be your fault if you hit him
Last time I was at CHEP they refused to let me in because I didn't have a hard hat. They used to ask to show it at the gate. Did they change their policy?

How is your thoughts about that UK is going to start testing the 25,25 meters truck and trailer on the roads? Will if fit? Your roadnet seems to have many narrow parts 🙂
It’s the same at my place, maximum 10 pallets lifted at once, stacked max 20 high, I’m not sure if move them closer to the wagon though, that just seems odd, especially when he had all those mixed stacks to sort too 🙄
Why on earth does the driver need an audible warning in the cab that he's turning left/right, surely the driver already knows that. Ii get it to have a warning outside for London, but why inside the cab??
Can I ask a really dull question? What are you paid for? Are you paid for waiting to be loaded? Are you paid for your breaks? Are you paid if you are tramping overnight? What happens if you run out of driving time and are stuck at a services? Do you get paid for that? Or does someone come out and rescue you? How many hours a day do you work? Sorry if this has been covered in great depth.
£150 a day, regardless of hours worked, time waited or loads archived, £176 a day if you do a night out and sleep in the truck Hours vary, but it can be anywhere between 11 and 13 hours a day normally, however you can do 15 hours a day 3 times a week, but no more than that If you run out of time, you park up and sleep in the truck. If you’re close to home you may be rescued All in all, you can earn over £45,000 a year. I earn around £42,000 working in the truck. My UA-cam revenue brings in around £25,000 a year, so me personally, I’m on around £67,000 a year.
I thought the EU were going to design the lorries now to be lower to the ground with no blindspots and windows all around the front and sides down to the ground? To make it safer for motorcyclists and cyclists.
and take away all the advantage of a high cab, manouvering, traffic vision etc in the process? scania have done some horrible urban cabs that british gypsum use a lot... nobody wants to the drive the sh*t heaps. Low cabs are a disadvantage, cameras can make up for blind spots.
Drove a hire Daf the other day. Worst truck ever. Hate daf’s with a passion. Put it in manual & it automatically goes back into auto. Pill of junk. Businesses don’t buy one. Boycott Daf
There are trucks with a moving floor. They should implement this everywhere. SO you only have to dock the truck and turn on the moving floor. And out goes the load...... Or in goes the load. But i guess the entire system is quite expensive
As a FLT driver at The Range, I've always reloaded trucks using common sense to my lifts, never done 104 to refill a truck though, that's just ridiculous
Dumb question time - if you are stuck in traffic and you hit your drive time, what is the procedure for that circumstance? as I've been on the M25 between J5 and J6 and there's been a 3 car collision up ahead, just after I passed J5 and it took hours to get sorted.
You park at the nearest safest point you can’t. You do a print out, write on the back why you went over (traffic/road closure) and keep for a month in case you’re stopped. You won’t be told off. It’s out of your control 🤙🏻
Yes 10 high saw a bloke with a box trailer and a pump up truck bringing the pallets to the back of the trailer these were 14 high and the top one got caught and hit the driver on the head he never drove a lorry again brain damage
Met Luke the other day whilst delivering to the range Cannock seemed like a top lad and his videos were what inspired me to make the change and become a driver, best decision I've ever made, the happiest I've ever been at work and currently saving for my first house.

If you’re close to home you may be rescued
All in all, you can earn over £45,000 a year.
I earn around £42,000 working in the truck.
My UA-cam revenue brings in around £25,000 a year, so me personally, I’m on around £67,000 a year.
@@lukecinahgv Oh thanks for your detailed response. Really impressed with your channel/content - gives a good insight into the job.
Boycott Daf
Someone needs to invent a pallet container system.
What is keeping you from doing that?
There are trucks with a moving floor. They should implement this everywhere.
SO you only have to dock the truck and turn on the moving floor. And out goes the load...... Or in goes the load.
But i guess the entire system is quite expensive
Hi Luke when is the next road legends podcast out mate great vlogs
Stupid question but how do u strap the pallets down? (Throw the straps over?) it doesnt look like u have much room at the top?
Simple answer is I don’t and neither does anyone else on a curtain trailer
You're not able to use common sense any longer.
Hi luke
The Speaker Should have a Volume button on the side Mine has.
Yip pickin pallets up takes time . N every FLD does it different. Just sit back n enjoy it.
It's max 10 high were I work too.
As a FLT driver at The Range, I've always reloaded trucks using common sense to my lifts, never done 104 to refill a truck though, that's just ridiculous
Share your pain- Asda used to load our drawbar rigs ten at a time and no higher!!
You are going to have to practice the line 'more than my jobs worth guv'
Dumb question time - if you are stuck in traffic and you hit your drive time, what is the procedure for that circumstance? as I've been on the M25 between J5 and J6 and there's been a 3 car collision up ahead, just after I passed J5 and it took hours to get sorted.
You park at the nearest safest point you can’t. You do a print out, write on the back why you went over (traffic/road closure) and keep for a month in case you’re stopped. You won’t be told off. It’s out of your control 🤙🏻
@@lukecinahgv cool, thanks for the information :) stay safe ))
Yes 10 high saw a bloke with a box trailer and a pump up truck bringing the pallets to the back of the trailer these were 14 high and the top one got caught and hit the driver on the head he never drove a lorry again brain damage
