My twins are homeschoolers and they are Seniors in High School this year. We will be reading "Bonhoeffer" and "If You Can Keep It" as part of our Government/Civics class curriculum. I pray that enough of the upcoming generation will know enough to defend the freedoms we enjoy that allow us to freely proclaim the Name of Jesus wherever we go. May I recommend you add the hiding place and parallel journeys to that book list. The hiding place is the story of Corrie ten Boom. She is the female Bonhoeffer. Parallel journeys is also about Nazi Germany and shows the story of a Hitler youth. Powerful.
Me too. Eric's book is situated in my bookshelves so I can see Bonhoeffer's face easily as I pass by. A contemporary hero of mine is Rand Paul. P.S. 79 yrs also.

It's so interesting, the prophetic timing. I had awareness of Communism and Nazism through my wife's family who lived under the Soviet oppression. But I had Eric's book - Bonhoeffer on my shelf for a number of years and then finally read it December 2019/January 2020. I now feel God's timing was in my reading it in preparedness.

Great interview. Great to know I am not alone. I am a patriot. My father’s family fought in the Revolution. My dad and son served in the military. My mother was Eastern European. I love America. I never considered being “kingdom minded.” However, focusing on the Kingdom now is what gets me through. I believe our beloved nation is on the brink of collapse. No, I’m not giving up. I read "Letters from a Prison" by Bonhoeffer, but I have yet to read Metaxas's book. Someday. But William Wilberforce! He was my pastor's great-great grandfather, so I watched "Amazing Grace," that film that detailed the years Wilberforce spent in ill health while trying to make animal abuse and slavery illegal. He won his case and only days later he died - but his fight went on for 19 years before victory, so the fight does take time. Something to remember when we think fighting for the right should go quickly.

May I recommend you add the hiding place and parallel journeys to that book list. The hiding place is the story of Corrie ten Boom. She is the female Bonhoeffer. Parallel journeys is also about Nazi Germany and shows the story of a Hitler youth. Powerful.
Bonhoeffer is a difficult read, just FYI...very much worth it, but very very thorough and involved.

It's so interesting, the prophetic timing. I had awareness of Communism and Nazism through my wife's family who lived under the Soviet oppression. But I had Eric's book - Bonhoeffer on my shelf for a number of years and then finally read it December 2019/January 2020. I now feel God's timing was in my reading it in preparedness.

GREAT interview. I used to listen to Metaxis regularly but his show is on really late & I wasn't getting enough sleep!!! He is the epitome of intellectualism, spiritualism (Godly spiritualism), prophetic gifting, blah, blah, blah. Smart guy. A little weird at times, but very able.

(but if somebody says “it utter garbage”… this already puts me on guard )….
I just know that Bonhoeffer was a godly man, he wrestled to know how to act in “such dark times” I know he loved the jews (!) I know he was one of the few Christian to take a stand.
I deeply miss such voices today… in our, these dark days today….Christians do not seem to realise what’s going on…. this is very painful to me! That’s why I was happy to see there are Christians who do understand….

God, it seems to me. is the author of nations, because through good laws, good governments (ministers= servants, not LORDS)…. a society can, as we were experiencing in my beautiful country, a society can flourish!
A human being needs roots and identity, needs a “home” God gives us all that through “our” nation (s)… where we can express our creativity and uniqueness 🇨🇭😅

Here in the USA, Sean Feutch & Eric Metaxas have been vocal supporters of our particular sociopathic megalomaniac (Donald Trump). "Christians" like Feucht & Metaxas have done everything they can to legitimize Trump's wickedness, especially when it comes to peddling Trump's demonic nation-poisoning Big Lie about the election. Bonhoeffer would have been very opposed to Trump, I am convinced of that. And Bonhoeffer would have been opposed to the kind of Nationalism in the USA that masquerades as Christianity. "Christian Nationalism" is a false gospel.

I am a patriot. My father’s family fought in the Revolution. My dad and son served in the military. My mother was Eastern European. I love America. I never considered being “kingdom minded.”
However, focusing on the Kingdom now is what gets me through. I believe our beloved nation is on the brink of collapse. No, I’m not giving up. I’m just being realistic.
Focusing on God’s Kingdom gives me hope even if America falls. Therefore, as with everything, it’s all about balance.
Ask that God's kingdom come, that His will be done on earth as in heaven.

I read "Letters from a Prison" by Bonhoeffer, but I have yet to read Metaxas's book. Someday. But William Wilberforce! He was my pastor's great-great grandfather, so I watched "Amazing Grace," that film that detailed the years Wilberforce spent in ill health while trying to make animal abuse and slavery illegal. He won his case and only days later he died - but his fight went on for 19 years before victory, so the fight does take time. Something to remember when we think fighting for the right should go quickly.
