I read his Bonhoeffer biography last year and was STUNNED by the parallels between now and then. The biography opened my eyes and caused me to pray differently. Thank you for this interview.

My husband's younger brother had converted from being a devout Roman Catholic to becoming a man who taught Una Vida con Propósito in his home, a cell group of a big evangelical church. One of the books he read and recommended was the Erick Metaxas biography of Bonhoeffer in Spanish. My brother in law had to consult with his pastor before going off quimiotherapy but his pastor said he knew Moris would see his Savior when he opened his eyes. I watched Erick throughout the plandemic because of Moris' recommendation. What a wise man with a quirky sense of humor. Que Dios me los bendiga a los dos! Sacramento concert, Sean, renewed my belief that California will be saved. I'm a granny but I love your music!

My twins are homeschoolers and they are Seniors in High School this year. We will be reading "Bonhoeffer" and "If You Can Keep It" as part of our Government/Civics class curriculum. I pray that enough of the upcoming generation will know enough to defend the freedoms we enjoy that allow us to freely proclaim the Name of Jesus wherever we go. Thank you for this interview and for writing the books that will help us educate this generation. Homeschool parents like me are forever grateful to God for your work.

May I recommend you add the hiding place and parallel journeys to that book list. The hiding place is the story of Corrie ten Boom. She is the female Bonhoeffer. Parallel journeys is also about Nazi Germany and shows the story of a Hitler youth. Powerful.
Bonhoeffer is a difficult read, just FYI...very much worth it, but very very thorough and involved.

So often I see Eric in the questioner role and getting information and stories from others. It is so nice to see him on fire for God’s people and the gospel. You can hear his passion in his books, but I always like to hear his opinion on today’s cultural issues.
Marx and Marxism are like the freshly inculturated pandemism part of the Counterreformation. the so-called virus as the next spectre haunting Europe and the world. in the same way basically how Jesus was used. another model to occupy the fantasy of the masses. "the Roman conspiracy to invent Jesus" - the biggest breakthrough in true, authentic conspiracy theory, democratic conspiracy research.
Thank you Sean for this interview. I'm a worship leader and following the movement and attending......this book by Eric is one I want to get! I need to understand this more---it's is "lonely" when you stand for conservative Christianity (which is Biblical!) it is lonely. I know this! Praise God for this teaching--I'm pressing in.

Sean has been a tremendous blessing to me. Since listening to his UA-cam posts, I have been delivered from depression and fatigue. I pray for him and his family that God will sustain and keep them in his care. Thank you to him and his family!

Good and succinct summary by Metaxas of the necessity to learn from the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and emulate his life in this struggle were in now, and to be willing to give our lives for a noble cause, even to the death. That's what I intend to do.
It's so interesting, the prophetic timing. I had awareness of Communism and Nazism through my wife's family who lived under the Soviet oppression. But I had Eric's book - Bonhoeffer on my shelf for a number of years and then finally read it December 2019/January 2020. I now feel God's timing was in my reading it in preparedness.

I have not read Eric Metaxis book, but a look at german history actually does provide a startling awakening because of it's resemblance to today. Have you read Sophie Scholl's story or that of her family? Hitler claimed to be a christian at the time. She was excecuted for publishing papers, along with her brothers, which attempted to awaken the church to the corruption and deceit of hitler.
The church could have stood up with her and others at the time, and their failure to do so cost them their nation.
The church's retreat from influence in the culture and merging themselves as an arm of the state has lead to the social degradation we see today.
If the church will again be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, truth will be preserved and darkness will dissapear.

My personal experience has been that when deep in sin and against Christ, as individuals we receive a dark spirit of self loathing. That self loathing spirit entices us to hate our fellow countrymen who are also in sin. All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God but praise Jesus he paid for that sin and redeemed us from the curse of sin and death on the Cross. By faith in Christ we are set free from sin and the demon spirit of self hatred! Our nation becomes a people made in His image that we love bacause Holy Spirit in us is love.

I now live in VA, but I grew up in CA. At age 24, I went to college in AL, moved back to CA and then moved 7 years ago to VA.
I understand the rules and control that CA does and how frustrating it is. I also understand how frustrated people were when the Governor handled things so badly in 2020. However, instead of being defiant and having church inside I would have loved to see tons (like all) churches having church outside. It could have been like a revival that even brought in unbelievers who were searching at that time, but didn’t feel comfortable being with crowds indoors. I think that was a missed opportunity.
Also, you are both talking about not “playing nice”… I’m all for standing up for what you think is right (though I don’t think we can compare what Christians in the US have gone through to being martyrs like in other countries), but I mainly see believers being incredibly angry all over social media. This anger and at time what sounds like hate (an issue against them mentality) turns me away, so it will turn non-Christians away even more.
First and foremost we are here to spread the gospel and love of Christ and yes, stand up for those who are being treated unjustly -not just stand up for ourselves because WE feel we are being treated unjustly. Bonhoeffer stood up because he saw unjust things happening and because he was told what to preach from the pulpit which he knew he could not do. Those two things got him fired up, so I feel like Christians need to get fired up for other’s rights. Who is being treated unfairly? Do I use this opportunity to complain and be defiant or do I use it to stand up for others, love on others and really use it to promote the gospel like taking church outside to all?

Your thoughts parallel mine to a T. It pretty much fell on deaf ears in the church here in North-north California and it was a missed opportunity as most churches weren't able to think creatively and just either shut down or stood defiantly in order to get back into their pews for business as usual. It sickened me, and still does. Mostly it was a lesson for me in forgiving my brothers and sisters for they know not what they are doing.
Here in Virginia, many churches started having outside services in some of the most ridiculous manners I’ve ever seen. “Wear your masks, stay in your cars, just wave at your neighbor and don’t hug.” On top of that, I have major issues with churches who are celebrating pagan holidays. I left the church years ago after experiencing several church splits. I was spiritually damaged, but now I understand that I was brought out of that system in order to see clearly. My beloved parents are still in this church system. My mom is sad that I won’t attend her church. I can see through talking to my mother that her ideas and opinions are changing. Btw, I was raised church of God & Pentecostal. The church system is broken.
Read Victoria Barnett's spot-on review of Metaxas' Bonhoeffer book (link below). Metaxas' book is utter garbage. Ironically, the kind of Feucht-Metaxas Nationalism (disguised as Christianity) is exactly the kind of thing that led to German Christians legitimization of Hitler.

There was about 200,000 more suicides in 2020 because of the unequal rules.

I read "Letters from a Prison" by Bonhoeffer, but I have yet to read Metaxas's book. Someday. But William Wilberforce! He was my pastor's great-great grandfather, so I watched "Amazing Grace," that film that detailed the years Wilberforce spent in ill health while trying to make animal abuse and slavery illegal. He won his case and only days later he died - but his fight went on for 19 years before victory, so the fight does take time. Something to remember when we think fighting for the right should go quickly.
