- This is the first time we've ever put these different weapons up against one another. Both were made by Kraken Swords, and both and the full weight and handling characteristics of original weapons of their type made in the late 18th and early 19th century.
Looks fun. I like asymmetric weapon bouts. Your channel is one of very few that do this regularly. Appreciate it.
According to Al Matrag from HAMA (historical african martial arts), after you parry and answer with a counter stepping with the lead foot long, you can take another long step with the rear foot forwards and proceed to pressure with another cut forwards, then you pivot off towards your own blind side. I would like seeing someone put that into practice.
Cutlass vs Spadroon on Talk Like a Pirate Day!!! ARRRRRR!
Cutlass vs. Spadroon? Oh yeah!👍😃
Which one is the cutlass. They both look like spadroons?
Rick in black is using the cutlass. Because of pirate movies everyone thinks cutlasses were all short and curved, yet this one is an accurate representation of one of the most famous cutlasses, the British 1804, a design whcih had barely changed throughout much of the 18thc before it. You can see me show and discuss an antique example in the video below

Ahoy lads!!! Where arrrrr those ARRRRRRRs!!!
😁😁😁
Guys please can you publish the specs of each weapon? Thanks!! And very interesting sparring!!
I'll update when I have time to check them again, but they will also feature in full review videos soon. I do remember them roughly though - Cutlass 74cm blade, 950g, Spadroon, 82cm blade, 770g. Balance on the spadroon is 12cm. I can't remember on the cutlass as this one isn't mine (as you saw in previous videos).
Where are you from guys?
UK. This was filmed at our Bristol club (England), and we have another not far from it in Newport, South Wales.
