I was so low (circa 4 mins) as I had already landed! Great survival flying Tim, and you so nearly joined Ludek and I. Useful tutorial for aspiring XC pilots to get the timing about where to turn in light lift, to maximise climb.
Yeah, that was a little joke at your expense, sorry! Real pity you and Ludek didn't have a little bit more height, but hey, you gotta take the rough with the smooth in this game...
This is truly a great video I am only at the ground handling stage and there is no one in my area to fly and share and teach each other. We have a big river bottom that looks a lot like the place you're flying over. There's nothing that really screams I'm causing lift in the picture in front of you. You happen to come through at the right time just a couple of minutes different than the other guys that you got to fly farther. Nobody got injured it looked like all good landings everybody made and you get to be the champ for the day. Strut around and Crow. I hope someday after I get a pilot's license someone else will come here and try to fly too.
Thanks Mark, you’re right, luck always plays a big part in it for sure… once I’m on my computer I’ll send you some more of my low save vids! Good luck with your training - whereabouts do you live?
Last time i was thermalling i also had these weak small thermals that i was unable to turn in, Nomatter how hard i tried. At one point above landing i had enough of turning carefully to maintain height and i just put the glider in a steep angle and turned very fast. The glider than just ate itself into the thermal core and i just kept on going up at about 0.5-1ms from just 140m up to 740m, Haha. That felt so great🤘💪
I'm at the ground handling stages and I bought myself an epsilon nine. It's the biggest one they make and I'm still flying heavy on the wing almost overweight. I love your comment about the light thermals and making that hot turn. One guy says you need to wait three or four seconds before you make it turn you're busting a bold move and making it happen. It's all invisible. Thanks for the inspiration when I get to flying around here in the light thermals I will try to be quick on the turn.
It just feels a bit lighter all round - brakes, bar, turning, and of course the actual weight. Suspect it has slightly better performance too, but that's very difficult to notice...
@@TimPentreath Thanks! I would like to buy a new OXA4, but the dealer told me that Advance is not accepting new orders... so I found an OXA3 on the box, I'm very exciting to put my hands on it!! It's looks like a amazing machine! Best Regards and good flights!
Best low save I ever saw was between about 50 and 30 feet, this out of the landing at the devils dyke by a red streamer pilot, my mate. The devils dyke clique never even noticed because they were too busy whining about new pilots taking up THEIR site. A few years ago now, to say the least.
@@TimPentreath No, like me the frustration of the weather and work got to him. This was 20 years ago. You know how it is if you can only fly weekends and holidays. It was impressive though, out of the harness and about to land and he floated on, and on, then began to climb, and climbed a bit more, then turned...I never saw anything like it before or since.
@@mikebreen2890 Yep, 20 years ago I was most definitely a weekend warrior, and then only when family commitments allowed it... it makes such a huge difference being flexible now. That low save sounds incredible, would have loved to have seen it...
Telling yourself to RELAX. It really works on a low save. Low saves on they way into landing field are great fun. Thanks Tim. 👍

Hi Tim
How does the OXA4 differ from the OXA3? Thanks Gomez
Hi Tim! Are you flying on an OXA 4???
Could you talk about the bigger difference to OXA 3?? Best regards!
