A series of nasty accidents befall the cast of the play Charles is appearing in. Is it bad luck or is someone out to sabotage the production.
As ever, Charles is his own worst enemy, a louche lush who can resist anything except temptation especially in the form of women and alcohol. His intentions may be good but somehow the results always go wrong.
He's been out of work so long now he feels he may never get a job and he's driving Frances his semi-ex-wife mad.
So when he's offered a small role in an awful play up in Rugland she nearly pushes him out the door.
But as always with Charles murder is never far behind.

Charles Paris and his world is the very best in radio mystery drama. These episodes are hysterical, I mean bust a gut funny. This series is high quality writing and acting by all, especially the banter between Charles and Frances and Charles and Morris. And the music!!! Rock and roll lovers will be blown away. Wonderful stuff and thanks so much for making these available to all.

Thank you for this Charles Paris BBC Radio drama. Wonderful script & acting. Much better than much of the shitty old stuff I've been hearing on line of late. My memory of the BBC is it produced a lot of good radio drama over the years but some sites such as Chesterton Radio just seem to find the poorly scripted, shallow plots with wooden acting
Charles Paris makes me want to drink Bells and eat mini papadoms. My AA sponsor says l should avoid people, places and things which remind me of my active addiction. Bill Nighy is about 30yrs sober. It's all got me very confused. I'm going to have to think about, all this, maybe at the pub.

Brilliant cast and a fantastic witty and funny script. Bill Nighy never disappoints. Could listen to these plays all day.
I don't remember any references to Charles' interest in crosswords, other than this episode. I would have liked hearing more of that.
