Your a life saver man just spent 75 bucks on a new wiper motor an still nothing watched your video an literally went outside grabbed the small ground on the firewall drivers side an wipers an blower motor started work thank you for putting this video up💪💪💪
I was about to drop a bunch of $$$ on a new wiper motor but tried your ground-test & yeap, that was the issue. So I ran a "bypass" ground wire like yours & she's good to go. I'm betting you never went back & fixed the original ground issue, I know I'm not likely to bother. This fix works well enough for the old gal. Thanks a bunch, you rule.
I tried this trick and it worked like a champ. I believe that the wiper motor is isolated more for sound dampening than for grounding. The 3 bolts which hold the motor assembly in place are held tight with Blue Loctite. I removed the 2 bolts on the top and took the wire brush to the underside of their heads and to the metal grommets where they make contact and away we went. If this holds for another 20 years then all is good. The bolts require a 10 mm socket or wrench to remove. Thanks again C.R. and good luck to anyone else who finds your video.
I tried that, and then a lot more troubleshooting to no avail. I then checked for 12Vdc to the connector and that was fine. I bought a replacement board, installed it in the parts store parking lot, and the wipers and washer pump worked again 100%. Thanks NAPA...!!!
Just a heads up, your video helped me! 2000 Astro van. It *was* a bad ground, as soon as I touched my jumper wire to the case and ground, the wipers started. They continued running after I removed the wire but they had been intermittent for a long time. I took it all apart and cleaned the copper ground strap and related hardware, it was really crusty, and now the wipers are fine. Thank you!
Yo man! That bad ground troubleshoot is GOOD SHIT... You are DEFINITELY the man😎. I remembered seeing your vid and tried it out. IT FREAKING WORKED AWESOMLY!!! PASSED INSPECTION👍🏾🦾
YOU RULE!!!! Saved my ass! I hooked the jumper cable ground to the WW frame thing and it must have fried the ground wire. Thank you so much for posting this video i hooked up a ground to the motor housing and it works now.. Again you saved my ass and a lot of money too... Take care.
I don't know. But there may be a good reason why Chevy ISOLATED the WIPER MOTOR from the chassis, and provided its grounding pathway another way (wiring harness). If there is a good reason it did so (and did not provide a return through the metal housing being bolted to the frame. Then even though your quick bypass 'fix' 'WORKS'. It may create a situation where something gets screwed up with the bypass. I don't know if that's the case. Just putting forth a caution and encouragement to find out why the WIOER MOTOR is NOT GROUNDED, but is so via the wiring harness.
The reason they use the bushings might have nothing to do with the ground. The case itself is obviously internally grounded so if that goes bad doing this bypass and grounding it directly should not be an issue. I would just make sure to use a wire at least the thickness of the factory wire on the harness or the wire could melt.
If you try this grounding trick and your wiper motor is locked up you will see the pulse board go up in smoke. Just replace the entire wiper motor ($42 Amazon), the new wiper motor comes with a new pulse board already installed and its easy to replace
I will check this out and hope it will fix my problem. I live in my Van and I am in Canada so I get working in the cold ( not pleasant ) I hope to see you on my channel.
