i always saw Joel as a dude that keeps living out of spite, he knows that the world took everything from him, not just Sarah, it took having a coffee in the mornings, going to see a movie and everything else, but i think that he feels like he is making the world angry by just being alive, the world its trying its hardest to kill him and he isnt going down, so he keeps going, even if he doesnt have a reason to keep going.
Exactly, funnily enough Joel is trapped in a similar kind of cycle of revenge that Ellie and Abby are in part II, the difference being there's no one person for him to focus his rage and grief on. The man who shot Sarah is long dead, and no one person is responsible for the world falling apart. So he makes it a point to keep surviving out of spite, which leads him to lose more and more of his humanity, until Ellie comes into the picture.
@@FuhzyLiquids he might? A lot of people would find it easier to correct their mistake than post an entirely seperate comment. Might have seemed abrupt, but I was just trying to be helpful.
@@prpwnage9296 It's simply not what people wanted. Everybody expected Joel to die, but not in the way he did. Didn't do his character justice. People wanted to see Joel go on a redemption arc, especially regarding to the situation with ellie. They let him get killed by a character that we dont know and have no sympathies for and then they try to force you to like her by showing her playing with her puppy, showing how she has fear of hights and showing her daughter - dad relationship. But that was bound to fail from the start because we've grown to love ellie and joel over all the events that took place in TLOU and then we are supposed to care about a stranger that kills of our favorite character after less then 1hour play time? Also the story pacing is really bad, a lot of times it feels like you are getting nowhere in the story because of the location/time/character switches right when you thought finally the game was getting somewhere. For me the positives in TLOU 2 is the gameplay and the flashbacks of Joel and Ellie. I've read so many comments from people that said that they would've even prefered a game of just Joel raising Ellie an casually beeing a great dad just like in the Ellies Birthday flashback. I think after establishing our characters in a story about love and hope in a dark world, creating a specific, deeply connected and invested audience just to turn your back on them and throw these priciples out of the window to make the story suddenly about hatred and revenge doesn't make any sense to a lot of people. I mean, for what? For a shocker moment? They didnt even have the balls to impllicate that joels dead or at least not taking part for most of the game and they actually chose to activly deceive their fanbase during the games promo-stage because they knew their fans would be disappointed. That alone speaks volumes about what this game could've and should've been and what we sadly got in the end.
This vid comes from a deep appreciation and understanding of TLOU universe. It also made me realise that in a world without boundaries we either become our best or worst selves, which makes this game/ series all the more realistic (besides the cordyceps fact being a thing). 37:09 In this scene, and all it's context, there is a lot more than just the cannibalism that drives Ellie to react so much more violently than expected. David was being creepy, trying to hold her hand, and pinning her down, all these things. There are a lot of implications that David was wanting to or trying to either groom her, but when that failed, at the very end he might have been trying to SA her. Especially in an apocalyptic world like The Last of Us, this sort of terrifying acts might only be even more common. Yes, all the killing and cannibalism definitely changed her, but this might have truly tainted her, or at least became a breaking point. She was not only terrified to loose her life, but to be violated either before or after. Silver Lake is a representation of true reality for Ellie, the reality of people and their struggle, and that even if people help you, their intentions might not always be pure. I think this is at least an important part of everything she had been put through at Silver Lake, and is important to be touched on and mentioned. Honestly watching this scene (I watched gameplay stream's because I suck at video games but wtv) was really hard. It might be hard to notice or recognize if you haven't been afraid of something like that before, or have lived a life of fear of things like this happening to you like so many women do. This was the moment in both the game and show that hit the hardest for me, and made me cry. This game is a lot more reflective of the world/America we life in today than most people think, and all of the horrors that existed before also exist within still. The Last of Us a masterpiece, and will forever make my feel so much.
YESSSSSS davids interactions with ellie always screamed that he wanted to rape rape and was even referred to as davids new pet by his goons. This video is fantastic! The writing, the editing, i was mesmerized by it!! Congratulations on such great content! The last of us part 1 mark a part of my life when i have a big separation and think everything was falling apart..and part 2 years later i was playing when my father was very ill and finally past away. It felt like the game resonant with me in two period of my life that change me and redifined me. The game simply traspase the barrier of just a videogame... Sorry for my english and greetings from Argentina!!!

Teared up a little bit towards the end as I’m going through my own intense darkness right now, lying to myself that everything will be okay.
I have no idea whether it will be or it won’t be… but it’s all I can do…
2:00 Plz do an analysis on Children of Men! That film is phenomenal and insanely underrated! The cinematography alone is astonishing!
Your videos are so good! You definitely deserve a lot more viewers and subscribers.

Excellent essay it is abundantly clear you have experience with depression, and the told that it can take on someone’s life. I also see a darkness.
There will be no experience like playing this game through for the first time.
This documentary is a masterpiece. Well done
Thank you!

Another banger man! Well worth the wait, and already looking forward to the next one.
I’m curious, have you ever considered a video on the Red Dead Redemption series?
Absolutely. Those games are high on my list, in-fact. Just waiting for the right time to talk about them on here. Thank you for watching!!

Watched it all in two spurts. Great job man. Very cool.
As always, your voice and narration skills, plus the background music make it a very relaxing video to watch and listen to. Amazing 👏
Thank you 🤟
Im with you, covering The Last of Us episodically was fucking outstanding! I genuinely enjoyed and was blown away by the series. Thank you for the video.
You're welcome, thank you for checking it out!!
@@ArTorrPresents We should totally link up and have an actual conversation sometime when we are both not busy! Im on my way to a Fall Out Boy concert tonight in Tampa with my daughter, did Rockville last month in Daytona Beach with my co-host Cyberneticshark, saw my favorite band Band Maid, Thurs night I'm going to see Oppenheimer with my son, lol 😂😆, and tomorrow night we review the finale of Secret Invasion after last night reviewing the finale of TWD: Dead City. Friday we review Back to the Future, and Sunday I have a part 1 of a 3 part Andor S1 Recap, I'm fucking jamming man. Id actually enjoy having a back and forth with you on The Last of Us, and it would be super dope if you would join us on like a ep rev of season 2 when it comes out.
These video's are always top-tier, keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
This is like the best video essay about The Last of Us I've ever seen.
Wow, thank you!
37:09 davids interactions with ellie always screamed that he wanted to rape rape and was even referred to as davids new pet by his goons. Im always shocked when i hear people speak as if ellie was scared of being cannibalized when it was quite obviously a child terrified of being sexually assaulted
I’d love to hear what you gotta say about the Red Dead series, I loved how you used José Gonzalez “Far Away”!
I can’t believe I didn’t watch anything other than your Mass Effect trilogy videos, Mr Arfurr
I rewatched (listened to them) while I was working today and I find your voice very pleasant and not condescending like alot of other long-form video creators. Thank you
Thank you so much for this beautiful breakdown. This game is very near to my heart.
Mine too! Cheers
I'm sorry but no matter how many times I've seen that begining where Joel's daughter dies I always, without fail breakdown.
~1 hour? Time to break out the popcorn.
