If there is one classic JRPG that deserves a remake above all others it is Xenogears. I love me some FF7 but Xenogears wasn't even finished properly goddammit.

It's not so much forgotten, it;s just that about EVERYONE that worked on Xenogears is no longer part of Square, and made their own Company, Monolith Soft, makers of Xenosaga and Xenoblade. :)

@Manuel Vega - Yes Xenogears does not belong in the FF universe but square still owns the rights to it so I guess that why plus this game is mostly for the nostalgic factor so i guess that why they also included him cause guys like me are gonna squeal like a teenage girl at a justin bieber concert when we finally capture him.

Takahashi and his wife are the one who made this game story a reality, not Square. Takahashi is with Monolith now, so it's fair to say that a remake can only be done by it's creator without ruinning it's original vision.
Especially, since we're talking about a game with one of the most complex lore in the genre !

not ashamed to admit it, this made me cry tears of joy to see. i get a bit weepy over Xeno, that was the one mech i always loved the most as a kid. it seems square is paying a bit of attention to gears lately with the Weltall cameo in Figure Heads and now this. given that FF7 which basically was the watered down story taken from Xenogears is getting its remake now, maybe they are sorta dropping nuanced hints that they are interested in a Xenogears remake/update? i'll be realistic and say probably not but who knows. i'd sure love square even more if they did.

No? They were developed by the same team and share a few vague thematic similarities but otherwise they're completely different games. Xenogears was pitched as a sequel to Chrono Trigger during the very early stages of its development, though.

4: Small thing. I love how Reynn stops Lann from saying it's not from their game, but the description after you get XG basically says "screw you, it IS from another game"!

I doubt Nintendo would collaborate on a sequel to a game that wasn't even on their own console, a franchise they don't even own and gain no benefit in resurrecting, and has remained completely dormant for the past 18 years.

Because three whole generations have passed since Xenogears came out, it's already had two spiritual successor franchises one of which Nintendo already owns, and Nintendo would rather prioritize a Xenoblade sequel over a Xenogears sequel.

Of all the mistakes Square-Enix made in the past, I have to give them a credit for at least acknowledging that Xenogears exists. But I'm still not hopeful for Xenogears Definitive Cut. The game was amazing but it had a major potential for sheer greatness if they had more time and budget. Sadly we probably won't be alive to witness that day. Shame.

Monolith, despite being comprised of the people who made xenogears, has no legal right to remake xenogears or set a game in the same universe since they don't own the name. That's the whole reason they've just settled for spiritual successors. They'd have to make square an offer they'd be willing to accept. Either that or get them to collaborate.

@@OsnosisBones they dont have the name, still they made xenosaga which is confirmed to be a prequel of xenogears. xenogears is episode 5 of a 6 episode game series. we have xenosaga episode 1-3 and xenogears (5), we never got xenosaga 4 and 6

There was also an online mech game in February called Figureheads. Fei, Elly, Bart, Citan (at least, SE recalled their japanese voice actors... which is amazing, after all those years) as well as a few Xenogears mechs are in it.
Considering the two people that wrote the script for Xenogears haven't worked at Square in almost 20 years, I personally hope they stop bringing up the game. If Takahashi and Soraya Saga aren't involved with any future projects involving the franchise, it'll go to ruin.

It just hit me that the music is a remix of "the one who bares fangs at god" from the xenogears soundtrack. Not a very good remix since I didn't recognize it for a while but I'm very happy it was included at all.

Considering FF7 is getting a remake and the story is being properly expanded on, A Xenogears remake makes sense as well. Disc 2 was a rushed job due to time, budget and resource constraints and the team admitted this!

Well, as far as I know SE still owns Xenogears, but from what I understand a lot of stuff from Perfect Works got cannibalized for Xenosaga, and that's Namco Bandai/Monolith Soft. Still, getting a remake with a proper Disc 2 would be amazing.

Dear Square/Monolith/whoever, please put aside whatever fucking differences you have and come together for a proper Xenogears remake and/or continuation. It doesn't have to be an FFXV tier eyegasm either. Just design it like the modern Disgaea games. Hi-res 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds (sound familiar?). Just please no more homages, no more "nods", no more spiritual successors. Saga and Blade are just teases. Give us the real Xenogears story and the real Xenogears characters.

Well considering that Square Enix has given more love to Xenogears than Squaresoft did the point is moot.
But on the other hand Xenogears and Xenosaga were incomplete, Xenoblade Chronicles X had a bunch of story DLC that released on disc in the west considering that dude in the epilogue sequel teaser wasn't in the vanilla Japanese release and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna The Golden Country existing maybe just maybe... it's Takahashi's fault. After all he is the only constant in all of this.
