I enjoyed your video. I made my shaving horse about twenty years ago and have used it a lot. As a matter of fact my back to legs have since broken off. I just place the stump that I rive and ax hew and trim with under the back at the seat end. Works great!

Love this video, Dan. Please grind away the steel that has mushroomed passed the edge of that splitting edge. From personal experience, they will break away and lodge in hands, arms, legs and eyes.

I'd even suggest to use wooden mauls for some of the wedge work to limit mushrooming. The wedges are less effective that way. My brother used a 16 lb sledge on one my dad had and that wedge was almost useless it was out of shape so bad.

Great vid. Love the hand tool tutorials. I made a few of these in the past. Started with four legs but found three work better and stand most anywhere. Two in back, one in front. Give the foot lever enough room up front. Just a suggestion.

May I suggest that you make the footplate about a foot longer. It would allow you to keep your legs in a much more comfortable position, as well as give you more pressure on the piece of wood that you are working on. It will also allow you to open and close the jaws easier and with more control. I used one of these for decades.

I COMMEND YOU ON YOUR HARD WORK AND MAKING A EXCELLENT VIDEO.

Nice looking horse. I usually use a crotch to make the dumb head. A lot less work. I also do my best to do a 3 legged bench using another crotch for the legs. Like a giant slingshot with the "handle" fitted into the bench. I am probably not describing it well but anyone who has spent time watching The Woodright's Shop on PBS has probably seen the episodes that covers the genuine versions of the colonial shaving horses that go back to Germany.

Good work so quickly to provide yourself with a working piece of equipment.
I wasn't aware that you could split a green log that easily.
Wouldn't a lot of poor woods people had wood wedges for their primary wedge but what wood would they have used?
Now if only we could see back through t... what did our Forebears and Ancestors use to drive their equipment, make heat, seeing from above to locate land and layout a homestead, and to have grow houses. I just don't believe that they hadn't contemplated other technology and we're limited to what stories we have now. The stories vary so drastically from one area to the next and one publisher to the next certainly it proves they are liars complicit to inhibit us from the technology our ancestors and Forebears discovered/ rediscovered.
If the Red Man indigenous had created sign language and smoke signals which is purely mind abstract thinking then certainly there are many missing physical technologies stolen from them and the White Man how to harness energies from the earth. Look how far technology went in the colonial period and how little of it is reported.
Explain how the besslar wheel came into existence?! What if there are many stories that are selectively blocked-out and worse miscredited to lientists and their obfuscating, mystifying, obscuring, and murdering science with their inquisitors and md and dds doctors.
I told people back in my first grade class the pyramids were machines not burials and they were not built by anyone who is their now and perhaps as old as the planet is because you can't date stone. The very word pyramid tells in itself that it is a maschine. Everyone of you who does hand work knows that no pyramid was built by hand that it is a complete lie. The few people putting out presentations showing the saw cuts and machining marks proves that a pyramid was built with equipment and is a maschine not a stupid funery mound. Don't believe their damned stories and reactivate your foresight and receiving abilities.
It is aggravating to thinknon one side to hear what Nicholas Tesla, "I created nothing, my brain is a receiver", because it sure feels like no free will. But I guess that it doesn't mean we have to be limited to just some alpha mode hypnotized programmed slave as long as we learn how to not be overtaken by that mode or capacity.
You must reactivate your consciousness ability to open the door for the Forebears and Ancestors to come back into the life plane who like me were murdered by the current cartel controllers to hide these truths and dumb us down plus rob us from the planet and Natural Order and force us into this toxic system game at a high price only suiting their benefit.
