Thanks for watching guys :)
A few details. This was built over a couple of days mainly from a semi green ash log with chestnut arms and green birch for the foot rail (for strength). Its my first Shavehorse and im overall happy with it for the time it took. As I put in the video I need to lash the foot rail after flipping the arms and make a longer board but other than that its working well. Yes, I could have made one from sawn timber but I wanted to do this traditionally to see if I could. It is adjustable with extra peg holes so if and when I do another, ill know better what size to make things :) All the best - Andy
Fantastic video as always! Thanks SO SO much for all the wonderful content. You and Simon have really helped me keep going over the last year. You have both inspired me and after spending a small fortune me and my son are going hot tenting next week. We are so excited. Just bought your badges and Simon's so we can go in style. My wife and daughter may join us next time if we survive 😀
What's the tool called you used to cut the dowl ends on the table legs please ?
I can only imagine what it was like before the Industrial Age, you’d spend all day on a project or even a month and get very little done compared to today. But the peace and happiness must have been unmeasurable ❤️❤️❤️
indeed, its very satisfying though :) thanks Robert
Started with about 10 layers of clothing by the end of the video I was expecting him to be just in his boots 🤣
I will say it's a pleasure to watch you build and make things from real wood, (AKA trees). At this point in my life I can't wait to get back to the woods. It is calling heavy on my heart. The Sandy beach is nice but not what I thought. No woods. Thank you for the time you put in to make these videos. As a creator I understand what goes into video making.
1:58, me spending the next 3 hours looking for my sheath
haha, tell me about it
I’ll put mine in my pocket and still go searching for it....
Easy with that ax my friend one wrong swing and you'll have to change the name to Carla's outdoors :P
The old-school tools are the best tools. 😊 Nice job, Andy.
Great video, so relaxing to watch, no power tools just hand tools, would love to have the space and tools to make my own, keep making great vids like this!
Thank you for being always there to watch. Me and hubby love what you where doing. Motivate us to also do something. Thank you Mr Kent
Thanks very much :) we all need a little motivation.. making the videos is mine :)
Look good 👌👌
Great Job, I love it.
Cool! Ive never seen a shave horse before. You learn something new everyday 😁👍
I know it has been a while. But I finally was able to sit still and watch every minutes. Thanks for this.
Love the videos always. Was never one for silent before but every part and step seemed rather intuitive without a lot of need for explanation. Well done!
Kudos to you, Andy! I've built these and my first one had the same troublesome areas: had to adjust the length of the swinging legs and the length of the planing board. Once those were adjusted everything fell into place and the shaving horse is a pleasure to use.
an other one to check off the bucket list :)
Love it Andy.
Thank you sir!
Wow! I find it interesting how you split the big logs..... Thank You!!!
It was a very well done video.
Excellent work and instruction. I have been wanting to attempt this and your video shows what I need to do. Many thanks.
Great video and excellent work o your shave horse well done Andy.
Thanks you Andrew
I enjoyed that as much as your cooking videos! A PLUS!
THANK YOU
Nice job. Liked that you had a thought process when you started this and how it became real as you went along.
You have mad skills Andy. That was epic.
Very nicely done Andy!! I truly am impressed with your outdoor skills. I really do enjoy watching what you do out in the woods
No I'm all for individual videos like this they are so informative keep the projects coming the variety is so interesting
Thanks Malcome
Brillant job Andy, cant beat the sound of wood splitting, and wood boring, so peaceful to watch.... well done
cheers Ian :)
Wow! what a great job you did. Well done.
Grand job! Love it!
Clever stuff from a skilled craftsman never tire of your content thanks Andy
Thanks very much Malcolm :D
You make it look like I can do it. But it's 3 days of work you say? You did it! I don't see me do it. But watching is great. So peacefull. Thanks Andy.
You made a wise investment in the right tools.
Hi sir
Thanks for uploading this video
Im really admiring your skills!
Love watching your video's.
But what I like most about you is that you seem to be a very friendly and humble person. That is important.
Thank you very much indeed for the kind words :)
If I tried that ,I would end up with good kindling 😛😜🤪
Awesome!
That's great Andy thanks for that
Brilliant! You must have a big project coming up - exciting stuff!
Awesome video thanks bubby always good to watch
Beautifully done!👍🔥
Great video! really nice to see some traditional methods to work the wood!
Love to see you doing your thing. Nice to watch dude. Greetings from the snowy Netherlands ☃️☃️❄❄
Fantastic Andy
Thank you Clara :D
Fantasic video Andy! I’m going to try and make a bench in this fashion after seeing this video! 👍🏻
BRAVO!!!!
Nice work! Got to get back to the super bowl game!!
haha, enjoy
You got some great skills!
Always enjoy watching your carpentry work. Great woodland skills Andy.
Thanks Darrell
You showed a lot of skill using your tools, and made it look a lot easier than it is. Nice "prototype". After you've used it for a while, you'll know how to modify it to your own requirements. Great video, Thanks.
I love that you chose slightly bent wood for the rails on the hold-down mechanism. It does lend to a better grip. Are those house in the back ground??
Fascinating and wonderful stuff. I stepped out of the room to make tea and was instantly listening to the Month Python scene in the Holy Grail when they built the siege rabbit. Great video,as always.
Regards from Sandgate.
good job..nice idea
Great skills Andy 👍👍👌🏕🌲🌲
Nice work, thanks for the video, have been looking at several other vids for shaving horse, yours is really easy to follow. Thanks again.
Thank you Roger :)
Nice video Andy 👍. That's bushcraft skills, on the next level 👌
This is so awesome! I had an ancestor that chopped his leg and lost it in the early 1800's. It gives me the willies when I watch someone working wood with axes. Well done mate.
Cheers Craig :)
hell yes!
love a project vid. :)
Well done, always great to see hand tool in use, a lost art. Keep it up.
Thanks Peter
Loving the new intro Andy, brilliant video
well done mate
magnifique travail, très belle vidéo, merci beaucoup.
I enjoyed this video.
The things you can make in the middle of the woods with basic tools!
A rustic camping bench or little table would be nice to see you make

Excellent. Must have taken a good bit of planning👍👍
I had a little advise from a friend :)
Wow nice
Nice 👍 yes 👍
Very NICE tutorial. Ash wood, also called the kings wood is fairly common around here as well. You can whistle while you werk! This how i spell work, lol.
it would seem that 36 people would rather be on a cruise ship or holidaying in a seaside resort in Spain. Great video again.
New intro was best 😊😊😊😊😍😍😍😍
very good action 😍🇰🇭
kerennn Kent 🔥
Very nice, the sound of that auger cutting into the wood is pure ASMR. Looks like you've got a nice pile wood to play with there 👍
All the best mate.
cheers Skye, this is another mates woodland, he's a forester and thats his pile but I do steel from it lol
Great video enjoyed the watch. Atvb Jay.
I'm super bummed I haven't been getting any of your notifications...just by chance I just went to see something from you and you've made like 10 videos since the last one I was notified of so glad i checked! Great vid bruv! Cheers, Jerbs.
First build the tools, then use those to build other, bigger things. Nicely done.
Wait what? No food? Come on dude! Not seeing your camp cooking to give me some ideas for my upcoming trip is just not right! 😂😂 Kidding! Another strong vid. About to head out myself. 1st time camping in temps below 20 degrees! Some of your content has been helpful in my preparation. Be safe and thanks
haha, sure there'll be some soon :p
Good luck on the camp buddy! have fun
Looks good! Looking forward to the cabin build. Hello from snowy Alberta 😉👍😨🇨🇦🌲🌲🌲🔥
Thanks Marian, me too.. just these issues getting the logs in to deal with haha
los mejores bendiciones..
Way to go man on your first attemp. Looks great. I know you were deep in thought concentration while making this, but a small tid bit. I really like hearing your stories and things. Maybe a story or something in the silence. But love the channel, and watch em all
I was thinking that's a huge amount of effort to go for a shave...
Genius
nice
now what can we look forward to you making with this shave horse 🪓
My Paternal Ancestors are from Kent; Maidstone
I'd love to have a go at this Andy, Dugout canoe next!😂
Nice job Andy, fascinating to see how you made that log into a board and how you shaved down those legs for this horse. 👍
Thank you :) looking forward to using it properly
Good 🎥 my friend
Thank you :)
i like the new opener, or it is new tome....
Shit hits the fan, this guy is going to be just fine
I like the intro mate :)
Thank you :) my friend did me the music diddy
Very nicely done. In future video let's see you make a bow.
Thank you for sharing this and using hand tools what is the bit you used with the brace to make the dowel ends for the legs please I had not seen that before
I've only seen a few in the states.
One was at a woodworking show and it was just like yours, nice and rustic, and he out did the neighboring booth and their fancy aluminum- titanium super vise... 😁
oo super vice :) like it, thanks Scott
Good job you had that massive steak the other day. Could probably do with another one after this. Nice one bud.
haha thanks.. there was off screen bacon :p
