Thanks Mike, great videos. You helped me before with my Merc ESL problem and column removal. Have message "Auto light inoperative", changed sensor but still get error message. Aliexpress claims "Registration required"? Bought it from Amazon or Fleabay, but would "registration" still be required? My iCarsoft MB II does not show an error related to the light sensor, so I cannot delete it. Would it be the ECU at fault in my case? Thanks.
hey bud welcome.back..and thanks for tour kind words ... now I've heard mixed msgs from this ..so wen u have auto lights inoperative it can also be the sensor of the actual headlight too... yes first you check the window sensor and apparently it does need to be coded ... that's what I've heard
i have c117 with only light sensor. never had rain sensor. xentry say its the part but rain function its faulty. can i retrofit for rain too? use vediamo for. coding? or monaco? thanks a lot
Amazing!!! I do have a question for you... When you get the message Auto Lamps Function Inoperative would that mean to replace the sensor and the ecu or can you just replace the sensor.. I am confused because I didn't know if I have to replace the ecu or not too
i believe that would be the sensor however if u replacs that and it doesnt fix jt then u would know its the ecu .. but always try a scan first to see if the obs2 scanner will show u the fault code
@mohdzulkifli1233 no that means something wrong in the headlight... your intelligent lighting is when it moves the headlight to your steering and dips when oncoming cars are sensed. and alot more ... it could be a fault within the headlight itself..a malfunctioned motor in the headlight
Had mine replaced and actually auto lights work properly and so does the rain sensor but still have the AUTO LOGHTS INOPERATIVE error message. The automatic day/night mode in the radio not working, neither the scrolling on the command controller. I'll appreciate any help
what do u mean by the auto day and night mode in the radio not working? amd the scroller for your audio system not working? that is usually due to the shaft breaking in the scroller for your audio system...im not sure about the day night mode... can u clarify what u mean
@douglassampedro Mercedes Computer system uses A combination of simple sensors that control toggle between daytime and nighttime display mode, which changes the backlit settings on the central display, instrument cluster and backlit switches knobs and accessories threw out the cabin. The goal of this is to enjoy a more precisely tuned luxurious presentation while increasing driver safety; instead of having a simple nighttime or daytime mode; headlights on or headlights off, The system is able to determine the correct combination of lighting settings using a simple logic computer module that takes in current sensor data and historical sensor recordings during the current “trip” and applies this to preprogrammed set of Values. It also allows for when rain is detected on the windshield it is to automatically turn on the wipers after a set amount of interference on the sensor( more Interference = Heavier rain. or amount of time. So if it begin to pour rain without warning lights will turn on nearly instantly or if it began to sprinkle for several minutes it would record that in the historical sensor data and allowing for more data to decide headlights activation accordingly As long as windshield wiper Control wheel is in one of the two auto sensitivity settings. This allows rain sensor input to be fed into the said lighting control module (all of this varies country to country for legal reasons. all are closely related but where for example DRL‘s are mandate it is at this step it is programmed and made not be able to turn them off ) also as a tip to preserve longevity of the rain sensor when rain is definitely unlikely turn off wipers completely to position 0 By doing this you’re Turning off power to that sensor which by design when turned on to “auto” The sensor is experiencing “wear and tear” It works by recording light reflection generally the main cause of failure is the optical return sensor failure to send data in the form of light return percentage to Computer module due to “burn out” . Especially if it’s on throughout the cars entire life. It also lessens the load on the headlight Control module by reducing the number of input values. But be warned if it is raining but still sunny outside and if you’re low beams are on because it’s raining and you switch your wipers to 0 your headlights will switch off because they are only using light sensor data input. Putting you in danger. The sensor system works in tandem with the headlight/ rain sensor located between the rearview mirror and windshield as shown in this video. But it also uses a“ cabin ambient light sensor” which is located generally in MB 2007-2016 next to the central display screen. (Black small bump in area you can feel it you run your fingers around it) you can test its operation by placing your thumb over it and watching the display invert and darken within 30 seconds The ambient light sensor is charged With determining color contrast settings of display screen for the radio. (If set to auto) as well as turning on switch lighting threw out the Cabin. The brightness of all this can be controlled in the instrument cluster settings under lighting ( if built in Germany this is true; but for the American made SUVs, it was decided it would be better for consumer if it was an extended rod that rotates clockwise and counterclockwise threw the dash board area which was common in their market for many decades past and it would be more likely that they would use it for their safety) now in newer vehicles ambient light sensors change the brightness of the ambient lighting if selected to be automatic. (this is a huge advancement in automotive interior lighting by always selecting the best choice for the environment of driving) So in functionality for example on your drive home in the evening the sun could be going down and intermediately getting sunshine on the highway. And your DRL‘s are no longer sufficient ( due to lack of rear lighting in US market) Low beams turn on and only instrument gage lighting but with out any change to cabin Ambience settings. It’s as if your DRLs never switched off and it is still fully day light. This is because ambient light in the cabin is still satisfactory but not satisfactory outside the vehicle for safety visibility purposes for other drivers. Time passes and the sun is now fully hidden, Low beams are already on from earlier but now cabin backlit lighting will turn on which could include foot well lighting, switch lighting and ambient light. But your central display would still remain white background contrast The final activation sequence would be the ambient light in the cabin being recorded to a certain point that would make The contrast invert on the display for reduced eyestrain and safety. Since you have replaced your rain and headlight sensor it would be recommended to replace your Cabin ambient light sensor. As it can be sending invalid, inaccurate data ( it should be throwing an error code for this specifying which sensor) using MB STAR The failure rate in this sensor is much less than the headlights and rain sensor but can be increased with excess sunlight shining on the sensor threw out is life. Due to its design You could also try to reset the entertainment system By holding the power button for 30 seconds and allowing it to reboot. It could also fix the sensor input for your toggle knob but this is unlikely. Find the instructions to put your entertainment computer to place it in diagnostic or engineering mode from that menu go to error code storage it would record the data input error there just Google the error code numbers if you don’t have star (my apologies for grammar and word choice English is not my first language. I am good for casual conversations but describing technical aspects is best left for German )
I have a 2003 C230K (w203) and I have tried 6 different used rain sensors and none of them work. Although they are all from junkyards, I doubt very much they are all dead. Does my model have an ECU like you have shown in the video for the W204?
I've replaced that sensor for a new one from Mercedes dealership here in nicosia and still have the Auto Lights inoperative. Rain sensor works fine but Auto lights nit working. Any idea where the issue might be? I'll appreciate your help.
have u had the obd2 scanned in order to show what the fault may be, its always a good idea to start with scanning the obd2 as it narrows down what the issue is, once you do that it will point you in the direction of what the issue is, may be something as simple as having the new sensor activated or synced... this was what i had to do when i changed out my headlights , i have to activate and sync the headlamps with my car so the ecu could recognise it, just an example of what mite be needed sometimes for electrical components... i cant say definitively your issue as i havent had the problem, do a scan see what it says, jump on the forums and ask around..so many helpful ppl out there friend...
