At this point, it's a preset in my brain.

The pens are called something along the lines of "data tubes," I believe. It's basically like carrying a key ring, gets you into doors and computer terminals with the appropriate clearance.

The pens you mentioned are actually security pins, sorta like keys. The higher your rank, the more you have.

The "Pens" are chalk holders, in lore they are Code Cylinders, the Empire uses them for security reasons. Hope you learned something new.
