Thank you Ben. 😀. When I look at my layout I just see all the unfinished work. Or I see areas that just don’t work well. I guess I need to think about how far I’ve come since I started.
Love the changes. I chuckled when you said you’re going to expand Cargill by adding more wood. Of course you are. Expand baby! More trackage!! Will you take feedback from your guests? When I operate at Dave’s, I always give him “tips”. You know what would make this better Dave? Less $&@& slip switches! 😂
Love your humor Mark. ‘Of course you are’. 😀. You do know the truism ‘More is better’, right? I’ll have 3 double slips in a row, a 3-way, and 7 turnouts in the Cargill Plant. It’s so complex that I haven’t figured out how to create an operating job that would make sense..yet. I figured if I added more track a good idea would come.
Thanks JD 😀. I probably should have cleaned up all the tools lying around. But I would just pull everything out again today. I wanted to run trains pretty fast and see how track held up. Did good 👍👍
Thanks DDR 😀. I only work on this layout during the summer. I think I’m about done with track work this summer. I plan to start lot of scenery next summer.
Thanks Eric 😀. I think I’m finally past my lift up gate problems. 🤞. Yes, it was nice that there were no derailments and I was running the Finicky red coal cars pretty fast. I can hear the gaps in some of my joints as the cars run. I’ve seen video on how to fill gap with solid styrene. I’ll need to determine right size to get.
Nice running Fred. I’m a fan of coal hoppers. Also I like the plan to add the additional track in the yard. I’ll be doing the same thing with directional locos.
Thanks Dave 😀. A lot of coal trains run across southern Iowa. I’ve done a few videos in Creston of BNSF full and empty ones. I like the idea of direction locos. I just need to confirm that it actually works with my jobs.
Thanks Randy 😀. When I do these full layout running videos I wish the ceiling looked better. But I wanted to limit how much money I spent on the basement itself. Between the radon mitigation and electrical work I spent about $3k. I spent $0 on getting my garage ready for my layout in Texas. But can’t use it during the summer or parts of winter.
Instead of having 2 tracks for different departures you could run the locomotives back to facing both ways so that would eliminate the problem of them being turned around. Still a great idea and layout is all coming together!
I wish I could do that James. I tried and failed to speed match several of my locos this summer. I just have 1 pair that will run together well. I generally buy used locos off eBay which contributes to my inability to speed match. Thanks for idea, wish that I could do this.
That was great, Fred. Everything ran really well and the lift gate was perfect. When are the guys from the club coming over? They should have a great time. Fred E the Foghorn Fixer.
Thanks Anthony 😀. I think I’m very close to done with track changes for this summer. Maybe a yard behind the coal mine in the ‘furnace room’ next summer. I only have two locos that I was successful speed matching. So no consist for me this year. I’ll try again next summer.
If you're running 2 locomotives east to west on a grain train? Why don't you lash them up longhood to longhood, and that way, they can always be point with a cab in both directions? You may have already thought of that? Just a question. Love the layout.😊
It’s a good thought. I wish I could do it. I tried to speed match some of my locomotives this summer using JMRI speedometer and couple of IR sensor connected to an Arduino. Failed! My locos are mostly used guys off eBay. Different decoders, age, condition, etc. I could not get consistent speed readings. Max speed on some locos were low and others high. Gave up…🤬
Great Running... That is smooth... Great Work...
Thanks Daryl 😀. My fix with the alignment gizmos seems to have worked. 🤞
Layout looks amazing. Great track design.
Thanks SFB 😀. I stsrted the track design with AnyRail6 and then did a lot adjustments as I built.
Great update Fred, the layout is looking awesome. Ben.

Made the RR worked hard that day. 🤓. Very nice update, Fred.
Thanks Drew 😀. Yep, coal trains got some exercise.
Changes look great Fred, nice running session
Thanks James 😀. I had tools spread around the layout. 🪛🔨🪚
Your layout is looking good Fred. Nice run session.
Thanks JD 😀. I probably should have cleaned up all the tools lying around. But I would just pull everything out again today. I wanted to run trains pretty fast and see how track held up. Did good 👍👍
Nice looking Layout so far. That BNSF Engine sounds really nice too!
Thanks DDR 😀. I only work on this layout during the summer. I think I’m about done with track work this summer. I plan to start lot of scenery next summer.
The lift bridge looks great. Loved seeing your trains run with no horns 😂. All your hard work is paying off.

Looks great 👍
Thank you 😀
Well that seemed to go really well 😊
Thanks Mark 😀. Yes, trains ran over my lift up gate very well. I think those rail alignment gizmos work very well. Good on other part of layout too. 👍
@FredE528 and the locos weren't crawling around either, just like the real-life coal drags don't crawl. Good test.
Looks great Fred. I'm looking forward to Thursday.
Thanks Charles 😀. I’m looking forward to you guys coming to visit. Did you see the documents I shared with Jon?

great update on the channel thanks thanks lee
Thanks Lee 😀
Looking good. Always better to make changes before the scenery is in!
Thanks Joseph 😀. I probably will do more grass on the hills yet this summer and maybe some super trees. Next summer will be scenic summer.

@@FredE528 well you tried. They still look great with the layout and run pretty nice!
Thanks

Thanks Derek 😀. They are coming this Thursday 9/12. Hope it’s fixed forever but need more time and use before I’m confident. 🫣
Change is good 😊 Fred…great to have more room to add on more track…do you run consist?
Thanks Anthony 😀. I think I’m very close to done with track changes for this summer. Maybe a yard behind the coal mine in the ‘furnace room’ next summer. I only have two locos that I was successful speed matching. So no consist for me this year. I’ll try again next summer.
