That's their main marketing pitch. At the time when Kopi Kenangan started, Indonesians were really into being sad & gloomy in romantic life, i.e having a bitter moment in breakup, or bittersweet memories with your ex. They capitalize this idea into their main branding, that's why the name "Kopi Kenangan" means "Memory Coffee" and their menu uses funny phrases like "Kopi Kenangan Mantan" or "your ex's bitter memory coffee"
Kenangan recently expanded in Singapore, and as a Singaporean, I must admit I was really surprised by the quality of coffee! It is now my favourite place to grab a daily cup. Congratulations Indonesia!
The best coffee I ever had was in Bali. I asked our Airbnb host what brand it was and he took us to the market to buy it: Literally just locally grown coffee without a label. I hope this company eventually makes it to the U.S
A fraudulent company, with deceptive production practices, engages in land grabbing and deceives local coffee farmers into debt traps. It is also one of the players monopolizing palm production (yes, they use palm oil in their coffee), and it is backed by elite politicians. This company is a bootleg version of Bakrie and Djarum. It's not surprising, as everyone needs to be dirty to grow up in a sick economic environment.
Kopi Kenangan's strategy of embracing local tastes over a uniform approach is a masterstroke in building brand loyalty and understanding market nuances. 🌍 It's impressive to see how aligning product offerings with cultural preferences can propel growth and set a brand apart in a competitive industry.
i remember their first stall in Standard Chartered building in Jakarta and I might remember their first group of crews. So proud of the growth of this brand!
Watching this while sipping my Kopi Kenangan mantan. The moment I firstly tasted Kopi Kenangan dan Kopi Janji Jiwa, I knew it's time to say goodbye to Starbucks.
At first when I chanced upon its name I laughed because it felt funny. But at the same time, I think “what if they are going to be profitable one day?” But that day is today. Congratz.
as much as I like and being a loyal customer myself in my small city in java, one thing that I can have a better suggestion for them is that maybe the menu selections could turned back slimmer as it was. Now that they provide a seasonal selection, there’s no need to have a drink that has very low demand. you can cut off such that a thing. and thank you for providing us quality coffee in such an affordable price.
It's fascinating to see how far the coffee hype can go. Competitors keep emerging, and consumer tastes are constantly evolving. How Kopi Kenangan will become in next 10 years will be interesting.
Before i doesn't have much expectation, that afternoon i was tired and then i decided to stop at KK coffee shop i order oat latte and butter croissant, i will never forgot how pleasant is that
Kopi Kenangan stores don't look as crowded as when they just started. Many new competition now for cheaper coffee like Tomoro coffee, Fore coffee and Janji jiwa.
iya menurutku rasanya ngga murahan, tapi harganya sama kayak kopi kopi lain yg serupa. varian baru yg creamy aren latte juga enak buat yg suka creamy. donat dan rotinya start from 9rb. worth it. cabangnya gampang ditemuin dimana mana. kalo pake aplikasinya biasanya roti/croissant+kopi harganya cuma 25rb udah bisa work from cafe. nice.
Dua shot iced shaken is my favourite, i drink it once a week on my way from Garut to Ciamis. Because i work in Ciamis, and no kopi kenangan in that town.
I love how he "forgot" to mention that he is deeply connected with those who run the country. In the glorious republic of Indonesia. you cant be that successful if you're not "connected"
Love the ex girlfriend drink name 😂. The founder definitely had a more advantaged background being surrounded by entrepreneurs and even attended North Eastern which is a well known college, and def not cheap. But his determination and hard work has garnered these results too!
3:15 I also think the same like "too many coffee shop, so what if I sell tea." Instead of bubble tea (since bubble tea also a lot nowadays) why not sell pure and refreshing tea because my country's weather is soo hot right now, the target age is 20+ and those who want to consume healthy product. But since he also said that 3:25 "it is not profitable" so I wonder if tea business can survive this economy. Also, 3:33 I saw that he also sell pure tea because of the tea pot, just like my idea !
Yes sir. Please come to the States and take Starbucks for what they are worth, lol. It's really expensive here too, and I am all for more international flavors!
I don't know any coffee chain that are cheap and high quality for local people. I just don't know the difference between this or Starbucks and the 3n1 ready coffee.
I really don’t know what he mean that the tea market are tapped out. I mean Indonesia are once the biggest market at all. Can somebody explain the difference?
Thats quite an exaggeration. Starbucks average msian price is RM 20 per beverage and more while kenangan is below that. Speaking of the chain, compared with local chain ZUS, kenangan is pricier and honestly not impressed with the taste of drinks. Last drink i ordered its obvious their beans were burnt and tasted horrible. For midpriced coffee ZUS is better
Coming from kopi susu aren addict, i was dissapointed by every chain inconsistency lately (my fav is kopi kenangan mantan less sugar, sometimes no sugar at all which is too bland and bitter for me, so i try again buy 'normal' sugar but it ended too sweet in other chain wtf). And no more discount again for members. :( Already talk with the CS but they also did handle the problem half hearted.
i heard a lot of things about kopi kenangan used as a tool for rich people to laundry their money (directly or through a venture like alpha jwc which i also heard a lot of things about such activity about them), either to avoid tax or and just to clean it off so there wont be any records. money laundry is used a lot in jakarta by the rich in indonesia but also from outside like singapore, taiwan, japan, south korea and china.

Honestly, here in Malaysia, it's not much cheaper than Starbucks. And compared to local coffee shops, it's actually still expensive. And hyper-localized, there is not much either, as far as I see.
@@Lalalalalelo As you can see from the “tall latte index”, Singapore’s Starbucks is already listed as one of the most affordable. So I think it’s tougher to compete with that. I would say the same for Malaysia
Kopi Kenangan succeeded in opening many stores, but actually not really attracting you to make repeat order. I meant it just generic like any other franchise coffee. Just mid
It is generic, but it DOES make you repeat order, not because it is different, but because it is everywhere. It is almost always the nearest coffee shop available wherever you are. And it is affordable.
Cos sg branch totally CMI. Their staff pull 10 espresso shots at the same time, then leave them out in the open. Only use when got people order… How will the kopi be nice like this?
"This coffee tastes exactly like my ex-girlfriend. It was sweet in the beginning and bitter at the end." LOL
Im laughing too at this part. Cute 😄
I like my coffee like my women, hot, white and strong!
These words are commonly used by young Indonesians and are part of the creativity of young Indonesians in stringing together words.

Kopi Kenangan is really a life-saver for middle class in Indonesia with their affordable price and great quality coffee 👍🏻
Not cheap here in malaysia. Zus is cheaper and nicer
just drink fresh water instead. more healthy more productive. I don't like coffee and tea.

Very interestingly written, it was easy and fun to read.
I could see Kopi Kenangan being successful in the U.S as I found that some of the coffee shop use Indonesian beans.
Best is buy your own specialty coffee, grinder and Aeropress. Guarantee cheaper and tastes better than most coffee made by cafes.
Very inspiring 👍🏼
aku suka kopi kenangan. semoga kopi ini nantinya tidak '' tinggal kenangan "

Avocado iced latte. Almost RM15. Starbucks is RM 16.
@@MrRickzi avocado latte is luxury beverage. They can price it higher because that's not their main product.

I think Kopi Kenangan's turnover is currently down significantly, not like before. Due to the fairly tight competition from Fore and also Tomoro
The clever way to fill a gap in economy but imagine if you do it in a higher currency, the revenue will be way higher
