I had one of these in 99 2000 , not sure , i used it on construction sites processing pushed over trees and had a 394 also at the same time, 394 took a crap and the 066 kept running , sold it to a friend , and he cut firewood with it for years later , he never rebuilt it to my knowledge, miss that saw Subbed
I was just thinking about you and the video from maybe two years ago when you were talking about how good the 066 is. I bought my 066 from a fellow helilogger over in Pitt lake. VIH was in there the year before and got booted out of camp. We went in with Hayes the following summer and he found an almost new Husqvarna 394 on the hill that they forgot about. He kept it and sold me his nice 066 for 250 bux, I still have it 23 years later and it runs awesome. 😎
Dang, I'm super excited to see tomorrow's video about the history of these saws! Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge with us, Mr. Walker it truly is priceless.
Like you, I switched to non alcohol beer 18 months ago. They sure make it better than they used to. As always, tomorrow's video for me is highly anticipated. Have a great day.
Ok, so the 1122 series saws where released in 1986 with the 064 AVEQ which was produced from 01/1986 to 12/2002 and had 84,9cc. In 03/1991 came the 066 which was produced until 09/2002 and had 91,6cc. After that, the MS 660 was released on 10/2002. Theres also the MS 640 (01/2003-11/2004) and the MS 650 (11/2004-12/2011), both sporting 84,9cc but only available in select markets. As far as I know, Stihl serial numbers do not contain MFG dates but denote where the saw was made: If the first digit in the serial number is a 1 then it was manufactured in Germany. If it’s a 2 or a 5 it was manufactured in the United States. 3 means it’s manufactured in Brazil. Serial starting with 8 is Chinese made. Starting with 4 means made in Austria. Of course 1122 type saws have always been manufactured in Germany. You can kinda guess when it was made as the higher the number the latter in the production run it was made but, to be really sure, just ask Stihl (write them an email and they will tell ya within a day or so).
Thank you Donny! Always great to hear about “older” saws since i’m from an older generation- but still falling👍 Like your choice of beer btw. Smart choice bud. Have you tried the Corona no-alcohol? Get ‘er at Costco eh. Look forward to the sequel
Be interesting to see the port timing number of that Stihl 066. They have more grunt than a ms660 The cylinders on a 066 are different than a ms660 look at the transfer ports. I built my clone saw like an Stihl 066 with a 066 aftermarket cylinder I found. Very strong runner.
Appreciate your knowledge and expertise on various models of power saws i was recently given a stihl MS 170 and i'd like to know if there's any way i can adjust the carburator if not what else can i do to get more power out of it . Enjoy your videos keep them coming .
I picked up a 2006 I believe it was 660. Mostly because I heard how you said they are one of the best big saws. Was the O66 any better than the 660? I believe there wasn’t much different other than the flywheels.
I have both. It seems like before the epa got involved, the saws were a bit more powerful. 066 has different carb, muffler, and cylinder. A muffler mod, and limiter cap removal will do wonders for a 660.
You’ll need to get a Stihl dealer to look up the serial number. The serial number doesn’t designate models, etc. first digit “1” means made in Germany.
Donny doing rehab !! Keep at it don't stop, eat healthy ! Add a couple of things I learned from Ed Zigay Sooke Powersupply, back in late 70's Always mix your own fuel,, mix it exact, use high test if you can, keep your fuel can clean, use quality mix oil. Spark plugs are cheap, change 'em. Change the fuel filter once in a while. Set your high speed jet slightly rich, good saw will last a very long time.
People were trying to “tune” them by relying upon the red light instead of using their ear. It was caused a lot of burned up top ends, going way to lean and melting critical parts (piston).
Don’t regret selling my 044’ and 066’s. Guy wanted them bad enough to give me double what I bought them for new. But I sure miss my razur sharp II. Do still have 2 034 supers. The first one just keeps running and running so the second one still is brand new. Why the Chinese can sell us clone non epa saws but our actual NATO allies who designed them can’t is a complete mystery to me. Well not really, I’m sure it’s just government corruption

I just sold my 064 i bought new back in the 80s best saw i ever own!
Man you shoulda kept that saw ! One of the best saws ever built maybe the best !
066 and 044 best saws ever made
I clicked on the video expecting a 044.
@iffykidmn8170 same
I agree with you, but don't forget the 046
O46 was my favorite. A little more power than a 044, and not as heavy as a 066.
I run a 066 it’s from 1994. Its was a barn find saw. I’ve been posting videos of it on my channel.

Perhaps Stihl used to incorporate production dates into their serial numbers. I have no idea.
Morning 🌄 Donny 👍 Johno Australia 🇦🇺

Awesome piece of history
Donny would you build 394 still from the 90s? I heard Canada it’s hard to ship with the strike or what not. Love from Santa Cruz redwood country
Yeah Coldstream is near Vernon B.C. Sort of like Burnaby is near Vancouver.
I was sure this was going to be a Wild Thing. What a let down. 😁
😂
I was surprised let me tell u!!

Ha! Poulan Wild Thing!
My first saw, and first saw I ported. It’s an animal!
@@johnbaptist1928 wishful thinking😁
@ Well, maybe not an animal, but compared to stock it runs like a “raped ape”!😁
Hi Don Lee here in woss was wondering how my Mac 797 is coming along I’m outta camp on 18th

Ive got an 066 flat top and 066 redlight red lever. Absolute work horses. Anyone no why they stopped making the redlight edition and why?
People were trying to “tune” them by relying upon the red light instead of using their ear. It was caused a lot of burned up top ends, going way to lean and melting critical parts (piston).
