Stihl should put you on the payroll for troubleshooting their saws. Donny, you are so inspiring and have such a Nobel Kind Soul!!! God Bless and Protect you and your Family!!!
Thnaks for all the great tips Donny! It blows my mind the amount of knowledge you have on this stuff I'm sure my head would explode if I ever spoke with your dad. Have a wonderful holiday weekend buddy sure wish the world had more kind souls like you I appreciate you buddy.
I was born in 1969, grew up listening to him lots awesome song righter. I've been catching up on your videos, the one with you working on a 500i a bit beat up, but you said your brother lent out your demo 500i. You men are the salt of this earth wish I lived closer you'd be my power head guys for sure! I run Stihl saws & run a couple of Woodmizer Saw mills in UT I am on UA-cam at the Kilted Sawyer 🧡👌💪💪🪵🌲
I bought a 500i a couple weeks ago overall I like it. I have a 462 thats just about a year oldIand it's been flawless. been noticing the clutch drum thing on the 461.
Thanks for this good information. I'm just getting to know my new 500i, and now I know what to be looking for as far as troubleshooting goes. I think there will be some issues with the air cleaner not seating as well as it should. Seems that with the engineering staff Stihl can afford that these problems you mention would have already been worked out.
Can you give your opinions on the ms462 and 572xp. This video is great bit of information. Its fascinating to see where stihl is reducing the weight from their saws to make them lighter. Ive always felt the 500i is built too lite for the work its going to be put through.
I was wondering between a 462C and a 500I which one would you take into the bush to fall and log? I have a Walker 395XP and a 661 C and need an in between saw. I need dependability. I also have 372 XP and old 064 that still runs well for back ups now. Want to upgrade those
Donny, where did you find that hat. I bought the 500i back in December and never got a hat with the 500i on it. I would love to purchase one. Love my saw,WC spikes, Bark Box wrap handle. 36" sugi bar. Its a beast. My only complaint is the air filter not sealing good around the cover. I added a 1/8" thick rubber washer to the foam one and it fixed it. Love the channel
As a service tech we need to ask our self how and what does these things diagnosing thing and looking at all the variables bar wear chain wear and the bar flex and or operator that does not tighten there chainsaw chain could be all of the above.
Hey there Donny, I was wondering if y’all had any full wrap bars that would fit the NEO-TEC 872 they say it’s a 380 Stihl clone. I’d love to see you guys get one in and talk about it. I live in West Virginia and in my experience the 72cc saws are top dog around here so I want to modify this one to make it a good dependable life long tool:) thanks for listening to my ramble lol love your videos!:)
What's up donny! Buckin loves your work and that's good enough for me.if I ever make it to canada I'll buy my parts from you.any help on stihl 064 coils? I see alot of people saying alot of different options but just wondering what you would say about them.
My 500i ate a clutch bearing in 12wks. So I bought 3x spares and I’ll be changing the bearing every 10 or so weeks. Don’t want to take the risk of another self dismantling bearing. Update. Due to lockdown I’ve used the 500i maybe 6-10hrs. actual running time. Yesterday I went to grease the bearing, only to find one side of the bear cage starting to disintegrate. I just changed to a new bearing with fresh grease. When will Stihl learn the error of their ways and supply a metal caged bearing?
A Flagship Stihl Junk Saw. Big money too. What a shame to the suckers that bought them. Good for business, get to sell lots of parts and double end with labour! Great video, thanks for keeping us in the know. A+++
You would think buy now Sthil would know better than putting such a short clutch cover and then top it off with a small stubby chip deflector on a pro series saw. They should consult with Donny and a few of the guys that are on the business end of the saw for some of the design on the pro series stuff. I'm not a pro cutter but I can see the same problems after cutting for a while with them.
None of these issues are serious, just small problems from them cutting weight. If you think husky or echo don't have their own problems, you must not use their saws enough.
Sounds like Stihl should warranty those wear items because they are wearing much faster than they should. Poor quality isn't the fault of the customer.

Donny thanks for doing this video. It’s definitely a good saw but it sad that they went cheap on some of these parts.
Donny I would really like to see this same style video on a 462

This is good stuff. Thanks for sharing hands on experience.

The price of lightweight.
Definitely sticking with husqvarna saws

@donnywalker4691 have you found a grommet for the top cover yet?

I want to know more about the rivet on the side cover that keeps the chain from falling off.
All that weight savings comes at a price. Still nice saws.
Oh boy looks like a 1983 Chrysler K car review.

Max flow makes a different top cover and air filters for the 500 i. Supposed to be a step up from the stock set up
Should clarify it’s the air box cover not the whole top cover
Hi Donny, will Part No:11220252200 not work for the decompression valve?

Run ~33:1 and forget about changing bearings lol.

are husqavarna any better or is it all declining in build quality

It’s actually a really good saw.
Its enough to put anyone off buying one of these. In NZ they are priced at $2755, surely one can expect better? Cheers.
I will not buy one after seeing this !!!
Thank you!!!
What stuff of Gas do you recommend?
I just ordered the 881R
I have one on order as well??? 4 weeks in on 8-12 week wait???

As much as these saws cost, they aughta be flawless.
Any word of heated bar models yet?
It seems all that glitters is not gold , I'll be sticking with husky.

Keep and run your older saws. They are tough as nails. ♥️🪵🪓♥️🪓🪓♥️🪵🪵
I’ve run your saws for a lot of years still most of miy saws you built up the qc
👍👍👍👍👍
If you have a bunch of old type spark plugs for chainsaws you could solder the top of them maybe, so it can't loosen up on you.
You forgot to tell them how the air filter doesnt seat tight to the housing and they are sucking fines into the carb
Mine was too added grease to. Help it seal

It was Lytton that burned down.
Dielectric grease will prevent corrosion on those pig tails
Sounds like all this for weight savings
Need a 3d printer for those side parts.
