How to Make Victorian Hatpins | Tutorial

My husband was nice enough to agree to show how he made my hatpins on video. Extra long hatpins are hard to find and tend to be expensive for just one, so we found a way to make a whole lot of them with some fairly inexpensive supplies.

Not much surprisingly, the pins are pretty sharp, they don't cut the material just poke through like with fabric

I wonder whether a nine-inch hatpin could be classified as “an offensive weapon” if you encountered an unsympathetic police officer! And whether it would hold up in Court that it was a historically accurate part of your costume!

So I fell down the internet rabbit hole. apparently in 1908 laws were starting to pass about the length of hat pin you could have because the pins were being used as "self defense weapons" . 7 to 9 inches is the max and they also had to be capped. it doesn't seem like this law was revoked.
