Oranges. Made the 'hinge on wrong side' mistake myself a couple of weeks ago. So easy to do. Good to see you made the effort to get all the gaps uniform as well.
Oranges, I work in council properties everyday doing door renewals, most of them are terrible the door heads can be upto 25mm out of level, luckily we only fit ply flush doors because if we fitted panelled doors the tops would look terrible with the un even door heads! Good video btw
Cheers Shaun ! Yeah mate I’ve been there, used to do work for an estate agents, I would change that same door ever couple of months bud to tenant’s smashing them up !
Nice one orange's good job done on the doors due to the bad linings it's nice you've got all the good tools to do the job not like I use to do with hand plane See you in the next video simon
Oranges... Good video, Glad to see I was not alone putting the hinges on the wrong side of a friends oak veneer door, worked out OK as it happened took out a newly fitted liner and adjusted a jam and refitted, Thanks for the video
Oranges!! I remember our old house where the door linings were much worse than that unbelievably. The wife had the house plastered before I met her so she was clear about not replacing the linings. Never understood how they could move so much unless it was put in like that 😂
If they were that bad it was probably a combination of put in badly and moving over time 😂😂 I’ve seen some brand new linings put in that where worse then the ones in this video 😂
Oranges 🍊 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊 😂 your only human Lewis, my chisel popped through the side of an oak veneered door last week when I was chopping out a bathroom mortise! Certainly ruined my day. It was on a pocket door so I filled the damage, touched it up, flipped the door round so now the damage hides in the pocket. We all have those days 😢
Oranges ....Always love to see that You tubers are real humans and make mistakes like us normal humans..I made the same hinge mistake on a finished door a bit over 2 years ago....never since. Worked out ok though because the client was easy going and was happy for me to splice in a couple of filler blocks made from matching wood.
Oranges. I love these videos. You make everything look so easy, so simple to do but it takes time to get that skill level. Us DIYers will keep trying of course but thank you for giving us a bit more confidence. Thanks.
Oranges 🍊 3rd video today. I’ll be starting up soon, and I appreciate detailing all the headaches you encountered on such door linings will likely double your install time on that door, but, selfishly, seeing how you deal with it and overcome it would be very useful 😊🙏🏻
Fitting hinges has caught me out too, so that’s why I always put some black insulation tape the lock side (both sides). Well done , keep sending the videos though 👍🏻
Oranges. Although difficult would have been nice to see how you overcame that 15mm out of level door. Those are the nightmare ones! I had one, a fire door no less, 25mm out of level! And to top it off i did exactly the damn same thing as you! Must have been concentrating so much on the level and the tolerances that the mind goes into auto and mistakes happen! Oak veneered too! Arrrgh. Well done.
Cheers Jon, yes mate I will still be doing the in-depth videos didn’t have time with this one. What happened with the oak door ? Did you have to replace it ? 🍻
Thankfully no! But only because in trying to make it a better fit AFTER i had chopped the hinges in i realised I could rip 3mm off the side I'd chopped the hinges in wrong on, to move the door more central in the opening thus loosing the rebated hinge! Bit of luck tbh! I was just left with a couple of holes which were easy enough to disguise... Got away with it and customer was happy overall as the frame was so bad I think they felt sorry for me! Lesson learned more concentration required lol@@LTWCarpentry
Bet there wasn’t much left on the top of that door , after shooting in .. you’ve only got roughly 20mm To play with on those cheap egg box doors, light as a feather to work with though.. I’ve made that mistake myself with the hinges .. I ripped the arc off the frame , cut the shoulder to the head of the frame and moved it over , so I could plane the excess off the door , and re chop the latch plate in .oranges 👍🏼
My a great deal left mate no, I have had to let a piece if timber in before now when a frame was that far out ! I’ve don’t the same before mate in a job, luckily the arcs wasn’t fitted so I could move it over !
Thank God I didn’t have to write Tangerine again. I can spell Oranges. Mate I’m So pleased that you actually showed your mistake in cutting the hinges on the wrong side. As you said, anyone can make a mistake. I think we must have been working in the same property last week 🤣. I had the same issues. Wonky floors, wonky linings and then I needed to give a slight adjustment on the bathroom door, I walked in (after knocking on the door) on the client bent over the toilet with her trousers and underwear down to her ankles. I kid you not! So, you cutting the hinges on the wrong side was Nothing! 🤣👍🏾
🍊On another day, and as a DIYer, I’d love to see in detail how you tackle door linings that are so out of whack. You are so quick. It’d take me all day just to fit one door!

oranges know your pain i fit doors into mainly old houses and some of the cheap cardboard doors just don,t have any meat on sides or heads that you can cut any more
