  • Can you use the Aeroe Spider rack on a full suspension MTB? How does the bike handle with the rack and bags? What are the bag options and are there any problems with the racks themselves?
    I tried to answer all these questions in this video. My plan is to do a bikepacking trip on the Arizona trail and I am testing and assembling the perfect bike for this. There will be more product tests coming soon in the following month, if your interested in bikepacking, please subscribe and follow along.
    Do you have any product ideas or recommendations that I should make a Test video with? Please let me know in the comments.

    Awesome Video! Thanks for the review. Just a quick mention - We have now started glueing the rubber into the feet - So any new Spider Rear Racks sold wont have this issue!

      Hi Aeroe. I purchased both the rear and front rack. Went on two bikepacking trips and the back rack held up great, bought more bags but the front rack uses the same type of attachment and if extended straight out it will tend to fall downward over bumps (mtb). I’ve noticed a similar type rack uses a more rugged attachment technique that doesn’t move. Any chance you can look into a retrofit mount for the front rack?

    I’ve got the pods, love them had on full suspension, now on my hardtail bikepacking rig. Also had/have the cradle on top. Whatever you decide to put in the cradle will want to gravitate into the rear tire.
    Lost one of my frame protectors too. Swapped if for a piece of cardboard with all-weather duct tape.
    Thanks for making the video.
    Carry on

    A very good product test, which helped me to set the spyder rack right. The final cradle positions he found on the fullsuspension is a very good recommendation 👍👍. Maybe a tip for the first setup. Tighten everything loose and turnable, it'll help to fit the rack on the seatstays. Imho, the spyder rack is the only rack that makes sense for carbonframes. I run the rack on an 2019 CUBE AMS.

    Neat video, didn't think about the peddle to rack distance before.
    I bought their handle bar mount version and it's great so far. Looking at fitting it to my e-motorbike as it's the perfect way to mount the soft eskies i like to ride with. It's hot in the north of aus, cold drinks are awesome haha.

    I used those Tailfins fork cages and suspension fork mounts to put bags on the front recently, and liked them quite a bit. I think i prefer the system to a bar bag, if you can make it work cargo-wise. Main problems are: you need to keep them as high as possible to not snag stuff and you need to run smaller and more durable bags/bottles to not snag/rip them on stuff or pinchy rocks (which I imagine you will encounter in Arizona). I ripped open a dry bag with a quilt on a recent trip.

    • @cyclingskills
      @cyclingskills  Рік тому

      Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I think I will only have bottles on the lower fork legs. A handlebar bag and a top tube bag is what I need. Most likely I will also wear a camelback with some storage.

      @@cyclingskills Yeah, that's what i've done on my couple of shorter full-suspension bikepacking jaunts. It's a lot tougher to haul everything than on a classic hardtail bikepacking bike with a massive main triangle, as I used to ride. All the more reason to bring the teeniest, tiniest version of everything, e.g. tarp with no poles instead of tent, quilt instead of bag. Just gotta hope for the best with the creepy crawlies!

    Awesome clip, best one out there on these Aereo spider racks for full suspension bikes⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Just one question, with the dropper seat down can you compress the suspension fully without the bags or Aereo cradle hitting the seat? When you were jumping up and down you had the seat up.

    • @cyclingskills
      @cyclingskills  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, as long as you don’t have a full cradle mounted on the top of the rack. ua-cam.com/video/KI6wVMIkPlE/v-deo.htmlsi=YBFLqPpm5uEXyeuC

    Great video by the way. Is the gravel bike in the video a carbon frame? I have a Norco Search carbon frame gravel bike and am concerned about the load on the chain stays and also over tightening of the brackets on the carbon stays. What do you think? And is there a recommended Nm setting for tightening?

    2 issues: it's not as aero if it's on an angled and upright position. also, anything on the side of the bike is less aero than right behind the rider.
    The other issue is carbon seatstays.. I would want to use seatstay-length splints to distribute the pressure. Even my Ortlieb quick rack has an adapter that says not for carbon frames. Quick Rack is also for MTB. I am using it on a gravel bike though.

    Ran the same setup on my carbon 2021 Santa Cruz 5010 with VPP rear suspension.due to this suspension design, not having a pivot piercing the main frame triangle it made the bike unridable in the standing position due to excessive flex and swaying through the middle of the bike.the weight of the rack,bags and overnight kit and type of suspension design needs to be considered before purchasing.VPP no good with this rack system ✌🏻
