I’ve bikepacked on my full sus 170mm travel enduro bike, steel fat bike, road bike, Ali rigid 80’s bike and gravel bike. If it has 2 wheels and pedals it works.

Absolutely! Got more videos coming to show different options for different bike types for those who aren’t as convinced!

@@Cycling366 and I agree with tailfin. I’ve had mine 5 years now and it’s perfect still. I have a universal thruaxle now to fit any bike.

I've seen loads of videos which show the Tailfin range. Non as clear and straightforward as this. Cheers

I like the Tailfin systems, just don't like the price, looking at the kit they sent you and then adding the same kit to shopping basket on the Tailfin website it came to £781, I may have missed some of the straps they sell, if they supplied those as well - their versions of voile straps which would push the price over £800 - I realise there are a wide range of options at various prices in the market however the Tailfin universal thru axle system does seem very good and probably the best option for use with a MTB, I've got a rear Topeak tetra rack and would agree about having to tighten it over time.... Anyway I best get saving !

Agreed! Very expensive but it’s great quality and they do a lot of R&D so that’s got to be paid for somehow!

You have to weigh the initial outlay against the number of times you'll use it. If it lasts years then the cost per use is low. Quality costs.

That was very useful Tom. I did swether about Talfin and there have been mixed reviews. Anyway I have my Restrap stuff (and Beerbabe fork bags as I have no mounting points on any bikes) not much use for my MTB’s or one of my road bikes the problem with XS bikes. It’s good to know they now have universal and QR fittings. Being able to use on all bikes is more appealing.
You’ve given me something to think about for a later date.

No worries! Yeah it’s a great system if not a bit pricey :)

I have a CX and hard tail with QR skewers, as well a CX, hardtail and full sus bikes with through axles, none of which have any rack mounting.
My Tailfin setup works great with all my bikes and is very secure even when descending at inadvisable speeds off road.

I guess Tailfin provided all that gear because your channel has prospects, nothing wrong with that, it’s just that it feels like suddenly you’re selling something but then again, that’s the whole point of creating content (have income) which is time consuming and requires a lot of work.
Anyways, Tailfin has definitely quality product, I already bought the suspension fork mounts paired with their cargo cages and some straps.

Thanks, sorry you feel that way. It makes no difference to me if you do or do not buy these things. Just get out on your bike and enjoy the world is my motto

I understand why you've gone down the shill route and I enjoy and look forward to your backpacking videos so I'll stay subscribed.
Looking at the amount of content creators promoting tailfin I do wonder whether the extensive R&D comprises of mostly Marketing.
Tailfin does seem to be the 'athletic greens' of bikepacking vlogs.

"Use the bike you have" is good advice -- unless you're like me and literally don't have *any* bike.
What are people like me to do? Well, today, after months and months of wishing and dreaming, I went down to the local sports store and got myself their cheapest hybrid bike. Not only was it as cheap as they come (380 EUR) while still being ridable, but being the off-season and going to the local small-town store, I also got some accessories for free, and a 25% discount on *everything* else! I don't have the bike yet because they're changing to studded tires for me, but oh my, do I feel like I've made a good deal! So if you literally don't have any bike and you're on a budget, try to find a small town sports goods store and buy locally from them, ideally in the "off-season". They'll be thankful for the business and you'll probably get a good deal.
(For all of you thinking why I didn't just get a used bike? I looked. I live in rural Northern Norway, so the used market is already very limited. Pair that with me being 5'2 and needing a small bike, and I just couldn't find one used. The one I got is the smallest size they offer and even with the seat post all the way down, I can't get my feet flat on the ground while sitting on the seat.)

I didn’t really initially realize you needed a speciality rack if you have full suspension. I just got a generic 26 dollar Walmart rack and slapped it on. It made some crunching noises on the first bump😅
Great video, I’m looking into this brand.

    • @Cycling366

The rack is hinged so it compresses like your rear shock. 👍

Hi Mr @Cycling366 !! I just discovered your channel, and since you seem to be a nice and chill guy, I subscribe ! :-) As an 18yo boy, I plan to do my first bikepacking, so I do some research. As a matter of fact, I don't have much money saved, so I'd like to go with my own bike instead of buying a new one.. however, it is pretty heavy, I struggle to do long distance with it, and its brakes kind of rub against the wheel. Do you think I should fix it or buy a new one ? Thank you.
    Love from France 🇲🇫

    • @Cycling366
      @Cycling366  6 місяців тому

Hey! Will be cheaper to fix the brakes most likely, gives you a chance to test the bike packing lifestyle before you commit to something more expensive (or new) in future
