I actually met a man from a village between Cork and Kinsale a couple of days ago on my holiday. He told all these stories and I often thought, it sounds very Jamaican at times… So it really does, does it? I‘m German and I thought maybe that’s just me being ignorant…
@@beanem.3989I am Jamaican and realized this a few years ago that the Cork accent is so close to how Jamaicans speak. The Irish were sent to Jamaica. They are of people in Jamaica with Irish last names. They are Germans in Jamaican also a place called German Town.
I was born and raised in Newfoundland and when I travelled around England and Scotland, in my backpacker days, everyone was convinced I was from County Cork based on my accent. They thought I was pulling their leg when I'd say I'm Canadian and I am not faking my accent. Funny, I don't hear it that way haha 😁
My mother has the thickest Cork accent ever. They're the only ones who pronounce th as in thing properly. It's also tonal, which fascinates me. She has a low voice though, not like the stereotype of high voices.
funny that you say that because I’m here right now in cCork and I’m from New York City but I live in California and we New Yorkers love to talk like the Irish and in California people don’t like to talk at all they’re not verbose I leave Hollywood out of it that’s people talking about themselves in any event they did come the day after we care where I was really in a hurry and I made the mistake of asking someone directions and I just had to I was going to miss the ferry and I just had to grab my map and say thank you very much I have to go and leave it was pretty funny
If love a warm Scots or Irishman and youre far west over the pond then check out Newfoundland ❤️ our real spirit comes from the heart of the celtic being and the accent (when 'tick by/bah) is liken to Cork lol
As Tommy Tiernan has previously stated “ sounds like Tinkers ( Old Eire) trying to speak French”! 😂 ❤ My personal experience is the Original Cork accent is soft spoken & lovely ❤❤❤❤
Wow this is really intresting, I did my ancestry DNA a few years back and I knew there was always French (Hugonot) excuse the mispelling if it is spelt incorrectly blood in me and the DNA confirmed it and I always knew there was Irish blood in me too as my Irish ancestors are from Cork and Skibereen. Now what really intrests me is the fact I am 29 percent each of the irish and french, I didnt know the Irish and Hugonot was connected what he was saying they came over to Ireland now this makes alot of sense why I still have high percentage of both, even though my greatgrandfather was born in London he was concieved in Ireland so intresting, great video thank you for the info.
@@blackmore4 Hey, hi! I'd like to know that too, why was Cork so often invaded? (Maybe it was just such a magical place that everyone else wanted it for themselves...?) My ancestors were Corkers.

No one has the right to call people plastic paddy's. I can't stand when I see people do it. You are Irish American and no one can take that away from you, it is your heritage and your identity, you are entitled to it. I did an irish language course last year and there were a number of Irish Americans on it, and it great to see them connect with their language and heritage. Is as Éireann tú.

For what I understand the cork accent was very influential to many West Indian Caribbean accents.
Sounds very close to Jamaican patios
And the sing songy Bajan accent
Yes, colonialism 😍

I love regional accents. It’s a beautiful, unique quality that humans create for themselves.

Love the way he won't let anyone get a word in. My father (same name) was from west cork
My Great grandmother that i found recently in census records is from Dunderrow, Cork, immigrated to Australia 1906. What a journey. Love the accent.
Fantastic local knowledge!

I lived in Co Cork once. 🇸🇪
Superb!
Tarmac rallying videos are invaluable for learning regional Irish accents. And by God, those lads can drive.
Imagine people on an American television show from the same. Sitting that close together to each other never happened never will happen
Cork accents are amazing only understand in Egypt and Macedonia
I’d love to hear his west cork accent
Ask an Irishman the time and get his life history!
God love them! I,m a dour Scot reticent!🏴😶

I've pulled a few Cork's in me time ... but never been there.
Tommy Tiernan compares the Cork accent to 'Tinkers trying to speak French' in one of his shows, this is just as humourous.....😂😂😂
Tommy Tiernan isn't funny
tommy tiernan is as funny as getting the runs while on the bus. Totally unfunny annoying
@J T tommy tiernan is not funny. Never has been and never will be. If I want to watch a gormless idiot then I have a lot of choices besides him
@J T If anything he is too PC, he has all the right opinions to have a show on RTE.
@@sirjellybeans6653 "Gormless"...never heard that word before. Love it!
St Finbar came up the river Thats why the named the Place Cork Bobbin Floating
Even local newspapers take the piss Cork man Found Drowned Impossible.
For what I understand...
Cork accent was very influential to horse dealers and auctioneers.
The off season 😂
I can see how much Irish influenced the Jamaican culture out of many one people
The last one is like "minnesota nice" or the passive aggressive in rural Sweden. Jantelag.
My ancestors were from Cork 😂
Jays the lad loves the sound of his own voice anyway
They always forget about east cork 😪
Cork is Rebel-contry!!
He forgot to mention the Catalans or maybe he doesn't know that they were in Cork as well.
