CS gas is a prohibited weapon, Section 5 of the Firearms Act, in the UK. He’s committed a serious offence, even if it doesn’t seem like it. The sentence acts as a deterrent against anyone else carrying / using CS without lawful permission.
The problem was that he was driving his girlfriend/wife car. She is French & at the time using CS gas in France was perfectly legal. They used to sell it in French shops & petrol stations.

Gachot got physically attacked by the taxi driver, so that's a GBH straight away. Spraying CS gas was the only way to prevent the taxi driver from fulfilling his threat which was already well on its way to become a reality. The problem is that the namby-pamby UK law says that you cannot defend yourself - CS gas being 'Section 5' - wholly prohibited unless you have special dispensation. I'm sure EJ could have talked it all down before it got serious. I believe it wad a technicality in the wording of the letter/agreement that was signed thar stated The Michael would drive a F1 CAR. and his lawyer successfully argued that The Michael was driving an F1 CAR as per the agreement as the agreement didn't specify what or whose F1 car he would be driving. If the agreement had said a Jordan F1 car the outcome would of been different.
