Many Deloreans sold in Europe ran perfectly fine. it was those sent to the US that suffered due to a regulator system installed in the car that hampered its performance. As of today most Deloreans on the road are no longer hampered by this system and run quite well
Pinto is number one because Ford refused to do anything about the fuel tank problem. It was too expensive to fix them, so they opted to pay the lawsuits instead. Let 'em burn. That's just sad.
TC Ford should have been convicted of manslaughter because of the three girls in their Pinto Judy, Lynn and Donna burned to death after their Pinto blew up in a rear end collision in Indiana.
It's too bad- the power train was decent, handling ok.. as you pointed out, Ford balanced thier bottom line against the charred corpses of thier Pinto buyers. Truly unforgivable- yet it seems every manufacturer does this at some point. GM- ignition switches. Takata airbags. Corvair rear suspension. Every electric car made with highly flammable/ explosive lithium ion batteries that can instantly shoot out 2000' jets of fire opon rupture or shorting out.
i know a lad in the north of ireland with one with 7 miles on the clock also i also seen one that was fully restored on a tv show standard left hand drive sold for i think £41,000 at auction and if i remeber correctly only 32 cars were factory made left hand drive so it was rare than normal
+AE86 of Mt. Akina When they where new in the 70s. After bttf it was worth a lot. Also delorean was only a company for a few years which means not many cars are produced. Combine the 2 facts. Being an extremely popular car from a movie and not selling well. High demand and but not many cars.
Back in the 70's, my dad bought and East German with probably the worst name I have ever heard for a car, the Wartburg! It's failings didn't end there however. This monstrosity of a car (ours was a horrible mustard/beige colour), had a 3 cylinder two-stroke engine, which meant that whenever you filled it up, you had to buy a bottle of 2-stroke oil and pour that into the tank too. As you can imagine, the exhaust from this thing was toxic, and I believe that was what eventually stopped the UK government from allowing them to be imported. The interior was plastic throughout and barely fitted together. The most alarming thing about this car, which had a manual (stick shift) gearbox, was the inclusion of free-wheeling like a pushbike. This meant that, going downhill the engine had no braking effect at all. If the wheels were going faster than the engine, the drive chain was disengaged until you slowed to a speed where the engine caught up with the wheels. Living in a fairly hilly area, it was terrifying freewheeling down a steep, windy, hill reliant on only the Wartburg's fairly poor footbrake. Fortunately, the build quality was so poor that the bodywork dissolved to rust within just a few years and, much to my relief, my dad bought a crappy little Nissan which by comparison was a limo!
Are you trying to say the DeLorean was good? It was an absolute blight of a car. A coke fueled fantasy car from a convicted drug baron. Just because it was in Back to the Future doesn't mean squat.
Well, not every one. No Fords I know of...at least the 2.3 in my old '80 Fairmont just quit. Replaced the belt on the spot. Same for my '90 Corolla. Just had to get a tow. My '98 Corolla has a chain. My Villager van is also a non-interference engine, a requirement Ford made when they entered the joint project with Nissan to manufacture the Quest/Villager. That said, it's about the only good thing about the POS Hondas, OTOH.....
Jack Dedert Ok! B230? Good engine. The best of them was B23ET, turbo engine in 760. Forged pistons... Here in sweden popular in racecars. Some uses the 16v head to that block.
I've been in a amphicar, it's awesome, you drive it in the water and it just keeps going. The fact that it could drive on water makes it one of the top 10 BEST cars of all time.
it made a crappy car and a crappy boat. not really desirable as either. so you were in one... probably as a child when you wouldn't be aware of these issues, you just thought it was neat as hell and didn't note every decent boat around you was capable of 40+ knots and it was all the amphicar could do to go 7 knots without sinking. Look at the video of the thing, water just inches below the gunwales. that is scary.
7 knots is quite an Achievement for a Boat with High - Sea Hull or a Sailing - Boat, get clued up Jonny not all are Gerald Ford Aircraft Carriers.. ( and even that only goes 38 Top,Cruising more like 22..)
I agree. Mike Brewer and Edd China of the Wheeler Dealers television show bought and worked on one and loved it. Richard Rawlings of Fast and Loud also bought a rough one and sold it to a guy who already had one in top condition. They then took the one in top condition and went boating on Richard's restaurant lake! Richard loved it! So the Amphicar didn't go very well on the road and in water. I say so what? As long as you enjoy them. My 1964 British Ford Corsair didn't go very well but i still enjoyed owning and driving it. It looked a bit like a smaller version of a '64 Ford Thunderbird. Heck, my '71 Dodge Charger didn't go very well either due to a carburettor problem that I never bothered fixing but I still enjoyed it! In fact, that car was probably the best car AND the worst car that I've ever owned! The best cos it looked and sounded so good with its 360 cu in V8 engine and every drive in it was an adventure and it always got a crowd round it and also the worst because it kept falling apart! Mike, Edd and Richard like the Amphicar and so do I!
you can. one group takes parts that were never asembled and make them. so in essence you have a brand new Delorean made from parts right out of the factory. And the guys behind this did have an engine upgrade option.
I have a 2002 Pontiac Aztek with over 308,000 miles, and it still doesn't burn oil. It is still my daily driver, I commute 70 miles / day, to/from work. In my book, reliability, dependability and its usefulness are what REALLY counts.
The Robin is a neat, if not very good, car. The DMC-12, however, is irredeemably bad. It was HORRIBLY underpowered, and, handled like absolute garbage. I used to like them, then I got to drive one.
Anon Nymous Say's the person that doesn't own a DeLorean, or ever driven one. I own one, drove several of them and I can say they are not slow, yet not fast. They have great power for what they are. They're peppy and very fun to drive!
Christian Dietrich besides, there are a lot of awesome cars that are slow, have crap handling, or are mechanically fucked from the factory, but that just kinda adds to their weird, quirky awesomeness. I love my current car, even though the transmission detonates every time you look at it funny.
Acura TL GTLM The DeLorean actually did handle very well for its set up, initially that is. At first the car was supposed to be lowered but then someone said they dont meet U.S. bumper height standards so they had to use a taller front spring which though off the handling. I lowered my DeLorean using stainless lower control arm, stainless rear radius arms. QA1 adjustable coilover with 10 way dampeners and poly bushings and changed the brakes from solid to drilled and slotted units with 4 piston calipers by Wilwood. Now its even better than originally it was going to be. I love that goofy ass car! I have tons of fun in it! Bow for it being junk? Those are people that actually dont know nothing about the car or ever driven one.
why is a reliant robin among your favorite? they look ugly! they move slower than a bike, they are anything but reliant, and they flip over. the delorean is understandable, it looks cool and was pretty quick off of the line (what watchmojo said about it doesn't sound right) and was a symbol of a greater time. when the world had finally boiled down in a ceasefire and everybody's biggest problem was what soda they were going to drink and then they would party all night long.
OK, here's a joke: A man goes to hell, and finds an old friend from high school. He asks, “What are you doing here?!”. “I was on my way home after an extra-tiring day at work, when some jerkoff cut in front of me and started driving at a snail’s pace. When I sounded the horn, he just flipped me the bird. Then I unrolled my window and called him an asshole, and we pulled over. We got into a heated argument, and in a fit of rage I started kicking his back bumper.” He pauses for a few seconds. “I forgot he was driving a Pinto”.
Fuck now that I have watched this one video I'm going to be bombarded with recommendations from their stupid channel! Why did I even watch this video? I knew it was going to be terrible.
A friend of mine many years ago bought a '71 Vega. I was scared every time I rode in that thing. I always joked that he should have a bus schedule in the glove box. The aluminum block 2.3L inline four was absolutely horrible. I had one in a '77 Chevy Monza. No power, block prone to warping and cracking. Also, the Chrysler K cars from the '80s should have made this list.
its rare because they are junk. even the best ones run terrible. its not a well built car. heavy, underpowered, and unreliable, even it's awesome looks can't make up for that.
It may be the ugliest car but not the worst. It was an average car, with weird interior and neat room inside it packed in the worst case one could think of. I always think they whisper "please kill me" if I see one. But they became so rare. They even were when they were brand new but I didn't see one for a couple years (!) now. And it is not that old...
If you want to see ugly, look at the Skoda Fabia - horrible "bullnose" front end, proportions are all wrong (tall and narrow). Horrible-looking, awful, ugly car. Only bought and driven by morons.
I purchased a 1974 Ford green pinto in 1976. It was a four banger, a camel 🐫 on fuel, cheap to maintain, and great mileage. I never had any problem with it.
A guy walks into a car parts store and says "How about a rearview mirror for a Yugo?" The employee thinks for a minute, then says "that's a fair trade".
I was in a car accident last week. I was driving a Nissan Murano and t-boned a Prius. I'm missing part of my bumper and my headlight is driven into the body of my car. The Prius has some body damage by the passenger door, making it difficult to open. It will likely cost significantly less to fix their car than mine. I will never talk shit about a prius again.
The DeLorean DMC-12 was a vehicle too far before its time. A DMC-12 now with proper suspension development and a truly modern engine like BMW's N20B20 240 bhp I-4 would actually be a surprisingly nice sports car.
The US govt, at the last minute, required the ride height higher altering the handling and to fit a catalytic converter reducing power. Delorean had the fuel efficient engine in due to rising fuel costs. I absolutely love the DMC-12 and I vow to own one one day.
DeLorean Houston now has a Lotus inspired suspension and exhaust system to lower the car 2 inches and lightens it by a 100lbs. You can also swap out with a Porsche twin turbo motor and a 6-speed manual gearbox and it will bolt up almost perfectly
Why the hate for the Pinto? Statistically it wasn't any more dangerous than any other small car at the time. The exploding gas tanks were freak accidents: 27 cases (maybe) out of 1.5 MILLION cars.
It really wasn't any worse than any of its competitors. Nearly all other compact cars from the same time period had similar numbers of fuel tank explosions, the pinto just got unlucky enough to be the car that got stuck with a reputation for exploding.
"almost all gas tanks were mounted behind rear axel back then." But the Pinto had a habit of exploding when rear-ended. Other cars of the period are not noted for this
The Reliant Robin is impeccably predictable and out of control roll overs is where 'round robin' may have came fro'. I had to get that out at 9:00 minutes.
Yugo: “engine self destruct if and when the timing belt breaks” Obviously the writer for watchmojo isn’t a car person. A breaking timing belt dooms all engines. Do research next time watch mojo
Obviously JPK you are not a car person either. With respect to timing belts and camshafts/valves engines come in 2 types: Interference and non-interference. In a non interference engine if the timing belt breaks the cam and valves can be in any position and the valves will not contact the pistons. In this case there is no damage so all you do is install a new timing belt and start up the engine. I have personally done this with my own 2 hands on a 1986 Toyota Corolla GTS AE86 with 4AGEC engine. Engine ran fine afterwards. Now, if the engine is of the interference type and the timing belt breaks then severe engine damage is likely (though not certain) and a major inspection and rebuild may be in order.
The Bushwacker almost all over head cam engines are what we call interference motors if rubber belt(not all use rubber some are chain drivin) breaks the valves contact the pistons usually just locking the motor which for a months salary you can fix with all new top end.but in some engines can damage crank shaft then you might as well buy a new engine or used .the normal rubber belt should be replaced around 60,000 miles
yeah there was a problem with some thing on the Car ,but it is nothing you can't fix , Check out season 1 of "for the Love of Cars" ...... a great Car !
I agree, depending o the engine it remains a long lasting car, has actual decent performance, and with the adequate tuning, and less clumsy stock parts it's... probably closer to a AE86 on many aspects or a Golf GT turbo equivalent o a little porsche. in fact it remains amongst the few, rare but decent cars of the eighties, a good ratio of electronics and not too much eco-safe shit by design.
They were awful cars. My dad worked at the plant in Dunmurry and said the fibreglass body was full of hairline cracks held together by the stickybacked stainless steel skin.
The DMC did not deserve to be on this list! If I understood right, it made the list because of the company lacking funding, a high price tag and less than impressive acceleration? Sorry, there are many many cars with much worse problems than that. Besides, while the car may not accelerate incredibly fast, it turns heads and will never rust.
Compared to other cars with the same price tag, the performance and handling is not on par and had you bought it new, your warrantee wouldn't have been worth much and build quality wasn't consistent. So yes, it had its issues but they are still bad ass cars.
The Vega was just about the biggest piece of shit that ever prowled the roads. A kid I knew in high school had one, and it was a running joke about what went wrong with the car that week. It finally caught fire and burned up in the school parking lot. What a piece of shit.
We all did. I felt sorry for the kid, racing around trying to find a fire extinguisher to put out the fire as the flames consumed his little shit box of a car. Finally, he said, "Fuck it," and went over to the smoldering wreck and lit a joint on the smoking carcass of his shit box Vega.
damn. I always wanted a Vega. I had a 2002 Honda Accord Loaded v6. I love it. Sadly i crashed into my garage about 10 miles an hour and cracked the block and also then some wierd chemical fell down on it and lit the car on fire.
We actually had three Pintos at one time or another. They were all just used locally for commuting, but they gave us good service. We never got hit in the rear, though. LOL
Unfortunately this is 2016. So MOST people think that cars are all around terrible if their not up to date with the "car standards" that most people have for cars these days. I don't think that way though.
I don't get why it was mentioned either. It was the launch chassis for the Cobalt and G5. The launch for the 2.2 Ecotec as well. That engine is still put in countless GM models to this day. We have two Cobalts and love them. Very low maintenance and repair. Drove a last model year Cavalier with the 2.2 to 260000 miles and never touched the engine.
Top gear rated it as worst car all things considered when someone bought it new. It was expensive and not very good looking, handling or performing compared to it's rivals in europe at the time. They described it as a car only an American would buy as it was aimed clearly at that market. Second hand it may be good value though as it's a large hard top convertable which makes it more practical then a regular one.
whats wrong with u...yugo is good car for 400$( now) in serbia, where i live...yugo is still rolling...i dont know, but yugo is 40 years old car and still works
At least they had a metal bumper. My boss has a Kia Soul and peeled off the back plastic bumper and there's no metal back there! As far as Vega I had a 74 as my first car. great on gas drank oil!Didnt have a mustang 2 but I did have a LTD2 which was horrible my folks had a K car that ran circles around it!
As an owner of a DMC-12 DeLorean, I absolutely love it! The only issue I have is indeed the slow pickup speed (Though mine has a Turbo in it, so she can really move when at speed). They solved the antenna issue after the first 200 or so cars (out of 9000).
Michael Anderson in all seriousness, didnt they have an issue with people getting trapped in the car because of the doors? doesn't that make you nervous?
Did you knew that the fiat multipla was originally made in the 50s and was a really good van very ahead of it's time, the one that everybody hates is the 1999 remake, its designer made other really weird cars
The Delorean looked cool, it's exterior was designed by Giugiaro after all, but was crap on everything else. The Multipla had a "unique" look, but was an excellent family car.
Nice looking car, but why build it with a slow Renault engine, how sad! Then to make it with a body, that body shops could not repair, and one that if you touched it, left finger prints, just was not well thought out. However in top ten worst, not sure it deserved that, but yes, not much of a car!
Well the Vega was really bad, rust everywhere. The delorean not having paint on it made it look like shit when you would touch it with bare hands. The Hummers are really bad for what they are made for: army / off-road purpose. The amfi-car was just a big joke, why would you go on water with it? It doesn't have the power to get out of the water if you would try to drive on grass.
A little surprised not to see Fiero. I've been told engines were prone to catching fire, and at one point GM even recalled a bunch of them for that reason.
Don’t know if any of them caught fire, they were recalled and the problem was fixed. I actually knew 3 people who had them, one was a GT, they were nice looking cars, the reason that they weren’t successful was that they were marketed as sports cars, with rwd and mid engine, but performed like an economy car, without the gas mileage of an economy car
Own a Delorean and you're right. Problem was, at the time, a 911 was faster and cost the same. It was a TERRIBLE era for cars. Sports cars especially. OIl crisis, new EPA restrictions, bumper laws, etc... Chevy didn't even offer an 83 Corvette. That's how bad things were. Delorean had horrible timing.
Jween Tech I was thinking more along the lines of GM's land yachts but that's a bit of an apples and oranges comparison I know. But even for those the era sucked, while the cars themselves were nice and comfy they eventually tried putting 100 hp diesels in 4,000+ pound cars......a tad bit underpowered like the sports cars of the era.
Randy Vertrees during the DMC 12's initial production run they only built maybe 20000 cars but made enough parts to build 50000 cars, which means there are a lot of spare parts around.
Daewoo used to be owned by the Kim family and a large number of shareholders through pension funds etc. Daewoo was a chaebol, think of it as a Korean version of Japanese keiretsus except they have large family shareholdings. Anyway, Daewoo totally misread the 1997 Asian financial crisis and try to leverage their way out; it failed and they went bankrupt. GM bought Daewoo's car manufacturing business, and over time discontinued the Daewoo brand in favour of Chevrolet. The Korean manufacturing aspects of the business have since been sold to Tata (India manufacturing conglomerate).
+TankEnMate A question , how can we see the difference from a real American Chevrolet and a Daewoo Korean Chevrolet? Since nowadays Chevrolet's in Europe are mainly Daewoo's ones which is very confusing they should have not allow that mixing trademarks into one . And how come Chevrolet bought Deawoo a low cost trademark .
Yup. I learned to drive in my parents’ Pinto, and then my first car (which I bought in 1987) was a 1976 Vega. I can attest to the oil burning from the crappy aluminum block. I could drive the 200 km (125 miles) from Toronto to Kingston on less than a third a tank of gas, but I’d burn through 2 litres (2 quarts) of oil! The good news? I only paid my neighbour $50 for the Vega so I loved it!
Sorry, but how is the first gen Toyota Prius not on here? ...It promised eco friendly blah blah blah, but the process of making one car did more damage to the environment than producing 20 normal cars, and its promise of 50 - 60 MPG was a lie, actual real life testing proved that it would struggle to get more than 35 MPG....and thats just amongst some of the flaws
I always find all these newer fuel efficient cars to be a joke. "OMG it can get 30, 35, 40 mpg WOW!" Yeah....thats nice cars have been doing 40 mpg back in the 70s and 80s and I'm sure earlier, and with all this new tech car companies have managed to get the same or less then advertise it as a new amazing feat. They should have been forced out of business after only getting 35mpg with a hybrid.
I bought a 1984 Civic hatchback new and over 17 years put 242,000 miles on it before I traded it in for $1000 credit. It was a 5 speed manual and averaged 35-45 mpg the whole time. Once it hit 47mpg on a freeway trip.
Two things I'll say, first the Edsel was a good car and has no business being mentioned at all. Second the Yugo is easily the worst car, I rather drive the Pinto.
YES pinto was WAY better, shouldnt have even been on the list. the edsel they showed was the 2nd & final edition. edsels were roadworthy, the 1st edition just had that toilet seat grille. yugo was crap. these guys dont know anything, they thought they'd read something somewhere that pintos blow up
My suspicion is that the folks who put this video together know a good deal more about editing and narration than automobiles and engineering. That quoted DeLorean time of 8.8 sec 0-60 was actually not bad for the early 80s. Moreover, a number were turbocharged. That PRV engine is not bad with a turbo. If you've ever driven a Renault Alpine, you know that it is a hoot. The quoted Maserati time of 6.6 sec 0-60 was also really very good for the same time period. And the interior was really very nice. But they did fall apart, self destruct and generally implode. The rest of the video is a combination of truths, half-truths, received wisdom and urban legend.
My first car was a 77 Chevy Vega Hatchback, puke brown. Admittedly I got it used (as in Rode Hard and put away Wet) but still it was a nightmare. There were only two good things about that car, it got great gas-mileage (when it ran) and it was absolutely guaranteed never to get stolen! I even tested that out once, one night I parked the car on the street (not a good street). left the keys in the ignition, the door cracked open, and a sign on the roof saying "Steal Me!". Next morning I came out and sure enough, somebody stole the sign.
I'll change your mind in a heartbeat. When driving the vehicle, you have so many blind spots that there is no way you can see cars in them, even if you turn your head. When buying it brand new, it was 53,000 dollars, top of the line models were about as much as a masserati. It was built as a 4x4 off road vehicle, are you gonna take that off road? Nope, I wouldn't. It was so worthless after 2 years even just a few minor scratches on the paint took away 7,000 dollars in value, that's how bad it is. It was also very slow asthe engine could barely pull the weight, hence the 9 mpg highway. Plus mod tpeople who buy them end up modding them with wheel spinners, chrome all over. Just in general things that make it a road princess. That's what it is, a 4x4 road princess. It's the most embarrassing car you can get, according to Doug Demuro, who has his own car review channel where his scoring sheet can be found on truecar. A big name in the car business, they don't let just anybody have their own review page on there. Now the H1 hummer, that is one that gets a lot of hate when it is totally bad ass. The price on the H1 reflects that, as one built in 1998, with 60,000 miles is still worth more than a brand new top of the line, fully speced Jeep Wrangler. Jeep Wranglers don't depreciate all that much.
test drove a Yugo in 84..interior panels would pop loose at random. oh..? someone on mojo watched 60 minutes about pinto issues? because those of us who lived the era knew pintos as utterly dependable workhorses! loved them! the snazziest cars in family..big bro had yellow sporter..Mom had gorgeous red station wagon Pinto. they'd get banged around on roads..yanked outa snow banks and always ran!
Where's the Trabant (the cutting edge of 1960s East German engineering)? And the Renault Dauphine? And the dreaded Austin Allegro/Morris Marina twins? You don't mention any cars not sold in the U.S. (except for the Reliant Robin) - bad cars are made world-wide!
Bronco IIs were great! Until you turned, rolled and smashed those crazy expensive curved windows. Oh, and the ones from Missouri never got rust treated because it would have cost four days of work to install the frame dipper. Goes for all ford trucks from Missouri until... I want to say 96? About the same time they re-designed the F150.
My mom once had a dodge neon, I swear this thing was made from a shopping cart. I forget what year it was made from, but the engine was constantly needing heavy maintenance.
Speaking of Yugo...I love how they had what amounted to two big white fog lights on the back of the car...I guess to be able to back up in a blizzard...also...I remember living in Los Angeles back in the 1990's , and when the end was near for the Yugo, one dealer started offering the most desperate incentive I've ever heard of to get rid of their remaining inventory..."Buy one Yugo at the regular price ( $4,000 ) , and get a second Yugo FREE ! "
You don't buy a Delorean for performance, you buy it purely for looks and because if you manage to hit 88mph, you're gonna see some serious shit.
Well, they did market it as a sports car back then, which would imply higher performance than it actually has.
Many Deloreans sold in Europe ran perfectly fine. it was those sent to the US that suffered due to a regulator system installed in the car that hampered its performance. As of today most Deloreans on the road are no longer hampered by this system and run quite well
+Somi dway oh my god. i honestly dont want to move to europe anymore.

Sorry, but Jeremy Clarkson didn't make rolling Reliant Robins famous. Mr. Bean started all that.
Probably pretty true.
Only Fools and Horses I think you’ll find. Mr Bean drove a mini.
+Dennis ward yes, and he always caused some poor bastard in a blue Reliant a bad time haha
yes but one of the famous running jokes Mr.Bean did was give a Blue Reliant Robin a terrible time.
the reliant robin in top gear was rigged to roll easier, had it left the factory with that poor stability it would never have been streetlegal.
Sorry, I would still buy a delorean and just do an LS swap
Yeah exactly.
Thor God of Hammers Same! Then it would get to 88mph and over easy!!
Its so heavy and that engine probally wont fit
No ls swap delorian v8 engine only
Love your picture dude
What Yugo? That's a Bentley Mulsanne!
Tiggoz top gear?
@@midly yes
LMAOO

Exactly!
Don't forget about the Mercury Bobcat which is basically a rebadged Ford Pinto.
OK, so they blew up now and then. Details, details!
my dad's first car was a pinto that his brother was gonna get rid of
It's too bad- the power train was decent, handling ok.. as you pointed out, Ford balanced thier bottom line against the charred corpses of thier Pinto buyers.

5. Delorean
yeah, welcome to WatchMojo
Pliant Impala785 it does suck tho
Im assuming you have no idea how unbearably unreliable, slow and expensive to fix the Delorean actually was.
Yeah it was terrible. The reason why the time machine went 88 was because that was the Delorean top speed
Are you trying to say the DeLorean was good? It was an absolute blight of a car. A coke fueled fantasy car from a convicted drug baron.
Just because it was in Back to the Future doesn't mean squat.
The Delorean was cool and all from the movie but as people have said. Horrible powertrain and reliability problems. Crap car.
3# Mr. Bean greatest enemy.
ikr
I am surprised they did not catch that too. that 3 wheeled car was the butt of Mr. Bean's capers a lot.
"Bean." -Mr. Bean 2016
+Steven Bills “Teddy”-Mr.Bean 2015
I love how his archenemy is never fully seen and always drives that thing. It is a great contrast with over-the-top presence of Bean himself.
Self destructing engine when timing belt got off!? Almost every modern engine does!
That said, it's about the only good thing about the POS
Hondas, OTOH.....
Jack Dedert Ok... Some of Volvo's B series of engines vill not self destruct too.
Have one of those in the family, too...'92 240 Wagon
Jack Dedert Ok! B230?
Good engine. The best of them was B23ET, turbo engine in 760. Forged pistons... Here in sweden popular in racecars. Some uses the 16v head to that block.
huh? I know alot of people who went through timming belts in the 90s, engines didn't blow up
I've been in a amphicar, it's awesome, you drive it in the water and it just keeps going.
+john lucier it was obviously meant to be a novelty
Mike, Edd and Richard like the Amphicar and so do I!
john lucier Many small waterways have a speed limit of 6kph or 3.6 knots.
You can't have the DeLorean on this list!
It's one of those cars we all love despite it's glaring inadequacies!
Its fucked tho
The movie is irrelevant, the car had a horrible powertrain and was super unreliable.
How do you put in a delorean but don’t mention a multipla!
Volvo cams, or better renault alpine cams, alpine ecu and free the exhaust and voila, 230 plus HP. Cheap as chips to do
Fuck it. I still want a Delorean, and it better come with a kilo of cocaine in the trunk.
You can get one cheap. They are terrible quality cars so people are eager to get rid of them for a low price.
Caleb Hu Seems like you could rebuild it with a different engine.
you can. one group takes parts that were never asembled and make them. so in essence you have a brand new Delorean made from parts right out of the factory. And the guys behind this did have an engine upgrade option.
DMC Texas is starting NEW production of the DMC-12 next year. Unknown if its going to have the same terrible engine or not.
Don't forget the Flux Capacitor.
I have a 2002 Pontiac Aztek with over 308,000 miles, and it still doesn't burn oil. It is still my daily driver, I commute 70 miles / day, to/from work. In my book, reliability, dependability and its usefulness are what REALLY counts.
cool, congrats...however....6yrs later, you still have it?
I see 2 of my favorite cars on this list: the Reliant Robin and DeLorean DMC-12.
My parents owned a Chevette. It was a happy day in the household when it was totaled while sitting outside the house.

A man goes to hell, and finds an old friend from high school.
We got into a heated argument, and in a fit of rage I started kicking his back bumper.”
He pauses for a few seconds.
“I forgot he was driving a Pinto”.

The Pinto was no more dangerous than any other car of the era. It's bad reputation is unjustified.
Three models of the same car were considered for this list: the mustang II, the pinto, and the vega
Awesome to see my first car made it to #1, 1978 Mercury Bobcat (Mercury's version of the Pinto.)What a POS that was.
@@billloomis4975 I had a 1980 Pinto Pony. I drove it 4 years. It was an excellent vehicle and a good snow car.
Also, the Chrysler K cars from the '80s should have made this list.
where is the Canyonero
In Springfield(The Simpsons) 😂
DeLorean? Worst? = Dislike
It´s a legendary car
Just because it was in the movie?
Incompleted Channel Not just because it was in the movie, it is 1 piece of epic design, not like the modern cars from today. And it´s a rare car
its rare because they are junk. even the best ones run terrible. its not a well built car. heavy, underpowered, and unreliable, even it's awesome looks can't make up for that.
yeah
+X-E-Qt- R (ScorpioN1988) You are right! it was and it is a great car!
I think you haven't seen Fiat Multipla...
It may be the ugliest car but not the worst. It was an average car, with weird interior and neat room inside it packed in the worst case one could think of.
I always think they whisper "please kill me" if I see one. But they became so rare. They even were when they were brand new but I didn't see one for a couple years (!) now. And it is not that old...
yeah, I think the original Multipla deserved a mention just for its awful visual design.
Thats just ugly, not a truely awful car, you can still have an ugly car that functionally is a great car, see Pontiac Aztek.
If you want to see ugly, look at the Skoda Fabia - horrible "bullnose" front end, proportions are all wrong (tall and narrow). Horrible-looking, awful, ugly car. Only bought and driven by morons.
The (second version) of the Multipla will be a classic one day
I purchased a 1974 Ford green pinto in 1976. It was a four banger, a camel 🐫 on fuel, cheap to maintain, and great mileage. I never had any problem with it.
RIP Stig, the Robin killed him
In what world Delorians are bad ?
Please wake up.
The DeLorean was an awesome car. My personal favorite car.

Clarkson May and Hammond will debut their new show in the fall on Amazon Prime. And its a good thing because the selection on AP blows.
SDJMEfan12 Is it exclusive to Prime? Cause the new Top Gear blows.
I can't believe that they forgot the Prius.
They where talking about build quality, not perceived quality...
the pruis isn't bad at all, it is reliable and gets great MPG, it may not be the best car but it's not half bad.
The Prius isn't a bad car but a boring one.
Just boring
I was in a car accident last week. I was driving a Nissan Murano and t-boned a Prius. I'm missing part of my bumper and my headlight is driven into the body of my car. The Prius has some body damage by the passenger door, making it difficult to open. It will likely cost significantly less to fix their car than mine. I will never talk shit about a prius again.
The DeLorean DMC-12 was a vehicle too far before its time. A DMC-12 now with proper suspension development and a truly modern engine like BMW's N20B20 240 bhp I-4 would actually be a surprisingly nice sports car.
Sacto1654 The delorean was ruined by american laws. The euro spec ones at least handled better.
What about LS swapped
Put a bigass v8 in it and it will go like a bat out of hell
The US govt, at the last minute, required the ride height higher altering the handling and to fit a catalytic converter reducing power. Delorean had the fuel efficient engine in due to rising fuel costs. I absolutely love the DMC-12 and I vow to own one one day.
DeLorean Houston now has a Lotus inspired suspension and exhaust system to lower the car 2 inches and lightens it by a 100lbs. You can also swap out with a Porsche twin turbo motor and a 6-speed manual gearbox and it will bolt up almost perfectly
The Reliant Robins were popular because you could drive one on a motorbike licence. They did make a 4-wheel called the Kitten.
The kitten was also shit. Kitten, what the fuck?
@@shifty2755 The Reliant Kitten was and still is a beast.
Why the hate for the Pinto? Statistically it wasn't any more dangerous than any other small car at the time. The exploding gas tanks were freak accidents: 27 cases (maybe) out of 1.5 MILLION cars.
2300cc wasn't tobad of motor. And i hate to break it to you almost all gas tanks were mounted behind rear axel back then.
It wasn't just the Pinto/Bobcat twins. I saw a fuel filler pipe ripped out of the tank when a Mercury Montego of that period got rear-ended.
The Ford Pinto. Giving a whole new meaning to the term Found On Road Dead.
It really wasn't any worse than any of its competitors. Nearly all other compact cars from the same time period had similar numbers of fuel tank explosions, the pinto just got unlucky enough to be the car that got stuck with a reputation for exploding.
"almost all gas tanks were mounted behind rear axel back then."
But the Pinto had a habit of exploding when rear-ended. Other cars of the period are not noted for this
The Reliant Robin is impeccably predictable and out of control roll overs is where 'round robin' may have came fro'. I had to get that out at 9:00 minutes.
11:20, the country is invaded by Ford fucking Pintos.
I LOVE the amount of footage from Top Gear!
Yugo: “engine self destruct if and when the timing belt breaks”
Obviously the writer for watchmojo isn’t a car person.

Josue I'm gonna award you full points for that comment
Don't most engines "self destruct" when their timing belt/chain goes?
Yeah, pretty much. That's why I love my Turbo Z, doesn't self-destruct when the timing belt goes
no dude
no, only engines where the pistons can hit the open valves
i think a lot of Mitsubishi's are the kind that crunch when the belt breaks
The Bushwacker almost all over head cam engines are what we call interference motors if rubber belt(not all use rubber some are chain drivin) breaks the valves contact the pistons usually just locking the motor which for a months salary you can fix with all new top end.but in some engines can damage crank shaft then you might as well buy a new engine or used .the normal rubber belt should be replaced around 60,000 miles
the DeLorean is so awesome
yeah there was a problem with some thing on the Car ,but it is nothing you can't fix , Check out season 1 of
"for the Love of Cars" ...... a great Car !
Yeah, I would remove the DeLorean from this "worst" list :D
yeah and the Ford Mustang in the honorable mentions.. O_O
2 of the coolest looking cars in my opinion
I still have my Yugo! I just have to kick the left rear tire to start it! Raining? Turn on the windshield wipers to get the radio!
I actually have a Delorean, and its not that bad
Thats pretty cool never saw one.
I saw one two days ago
ya ok
😂😂😂 I fucking died
QuitePear192103 Priceless.
I have a 2016 Subaru Impreza Limited now. I love it.
We actually had three Pintos at one time or another. They were all just used locally for commuting, but they gave us good service. We never got hit in the rear, though. LOL
The Lexus SC 430 was well built and reliable so although it was a miss it’s defiantly NOT the worst car of all time.
Made a big mistake with that thumbnail LOOOOOOOOOOOL
a huuuuuuuugeeee mistake
why? the delorean was an unreliable car
***** im biased with it back to the future is my fav film and delorians are my fav type of car cause of it

no no mistake at all, it was a crap car
Why was the Saturn Ion mentioned? I used to own one and it was a great car for its time.
Unfortunately this is 2016. So MOST people think that cars are all around terrible if their not up to date with the "car standards" that most people have for cars these days. I don't think that way though.
That's so true.
Except if they're classics of course.
yea, esp the ion. I think it was probably the most satisfying commuter cars ever made, I love almost everything about it.
Lexus sc430??? I drive one since 2008 and its flawless, its seriously great, ive had a great experience with that car and i totally recomend it
Silvia Gaitan awesome car!!! these guys have their heads up their ass!!
Top gear rated it as worst car all things considered when someone bought it new. It was expensive and not very good looking, handling or performing compared to it's rivals in europe at the time. They described it as a car only an American would buy as it was aimed clearly at that market. Second hand it may be good value though as it's a large hard top convertable which makes it more practical then a regular one.
mobycat Yo momma's ugly ;3
I agree,to me this is just toyota bashing.Being over priced does not make it bad. Being over priced AND bad would make it a BMW
Silvia Gaitan yeah i know its good car but you see watchmojo just shitting with their list

in serbia, where i live...yugo is still rolling...i dont know, but yugo is 40 years old car and still works
At least they had a metal bumper. Not DeLorean ... please , it's my Dream Car . I know shitty engine , who cares it's a legend .
Dude I don't blame you the delorean is an awesome car
forreal, I love the DeLorean and also the Corvair
it also killed a lot of its owners
As an owner of a DMC-12 DeLorean, I absolutely love it! The only issue I have is indeed the slow pickup speed (Though mine has a Turbo in it, so she can really move when at speed). They solved the antenna issue after the first 200 or so cars (out of 9000).
Michael Anderson in all seriousness, didnt they have an issue with people getting trapped in the car because of the doors? doesn't that make you nervous?
that 3 wheel car looks fun to flip around
yea it does if you have bullet-resistant glass
+LTE Charged Who was shooting at that car?
it looked less fun to be inside said flipping car
numskully No, bullet resistant glass is strong enough not to shatter all over you and cut you.
or pop the glass out before you go car fliping
Replace the DeLorean with the fiat multipla please
Did you knew that the fiat multipla was originally made in the 50s and was a really good van very ahead of it's time, the one that everybody hates is the 1999 remake, its designer made other really weird cars
The Multipla is kinda ugly, not bad so it shouldn't even be on here
What are you on about? The Multipla was chosen car of the year by Top Gear because it's so practical. "It's ugly" is what you should be saying.
The journalists all tried to hype up the multipla. We just called it the Platypus.
The Delorean looked cool, it's exterior was designed by Giugiaro after all, but was crap on everything else. The Multipla had a "unique" look, but was an excellent family car.
But the DeLorean is one of my dream cars

Nice looking car, but why build it with a slow Renault engine, how sad! Then to make it with a body, that body shops could not repair, and one that if you touched it, left finger prints, just was not well thought out. However in top ten worst, not sure it deserved that, but yes, not much of a car!
most of them cars arent even that bad
Sergio A. Montúfar It looks ugly
gbk gang true
a very strange vehicle :/
Well the Vega was really bad, rust everywhere. The delorean not having paint on it made it look like shit when you would touch it with bare hands. The Hummers are really bad for what they are made for: army / off-road purpose. The amfi-car was just a big joke, why would you go on water with it? It doesn't have the power to get out of the water if you would try to drive on grass.

A little surprised not to see Fiero. I've been told engines were prone to catching fire, and at one point GM even recalled a bunch of them for that reason.
It was for a wiring problem. Too bad though, the Fiero GT's were actually a nice looking sporty type car.
@@chiefpontiac1800 no it was the smaller oil pan
Don’t know if any of them caught fire, they were recalled and the problem was fixed. I actually knew 3 people who had them, one was a GT, they were nice looking cars, the reason that they weren’t successful was that they were marketed as sports cars, with rwd and mid engine, but performed like an economy car, without the gas mileage of an economy car

Delorean had horrible timing.
Jween Tech
I was thinking more along the lines of GM's land yachts but that's a bit of an apples and oranges comparison I know. But even for those the era sucked, while the cars themselves were nice and comfy they eventually tried putting 100 hp diesels in 4,000+ pound cars......a tad bit underpowered like the sports cars of the era.
+0utc4st1985 love
I think you mean 250 C.I. straight six.
they re opened delorean and in 2017 300 new deloreans will be for sale, but you can pre order them now
It's open here I'm buying one this year
There is actually tons of NOS body panels and parts...still
Delorean has been open since the early late 80's, early 90's but they only did refurbishing of existing DMC-12's back to factory.
Randy Vertrees during the DMC 12's initial production run they only built maybe 20000 cars but made enough parts to build 50000 cars, which means there are a lot of spare parts around.
I'm surprised the Cadillac Eescalade is not on here.
Don't get me wrong I love me a Cadillac Escalade but they are money pits
My mom had one for 4 years and never had to take it in I have no idea what you are going on about
Escalade is nothing more than a dolled up Chevy Tahoe /Suburban.
...and...they are butt-ugly!
No Daewoo cars on the list?? really?
Daewoos are awesome, except Musso.
+Zsolt345346 who owns daewoo? Isuzu ?
D Reedy Chevrolet.
Probably the basis for the first gen Camaro!
Danny Hampton I hear ya man
Yeah the old civic hatch backs from the mid to early 90's were easily doing almost 40mpg and came in stick as well.
I bought a 1984 Civic hatchback new and over 17 years put 242,000 miles on it before I traded it in for $1000 credit. It was a 5 speed manual and averaged 35-45 mpg the whole time. Once it hit 47mpg on a freeway trip.
Not to mention trying to recycle the battery pack once it dies eventually, costly and does more environment damage than making it in the first place.
The rest of the video is a combination of truths, half-truths, received wisdom and urban legend.
the bi-turbo caused every mechanic in the shop to go to lunch early and stay there until the damn thing was gone!
My Maserati Biturbo did one-eighty-five, and I lost my license, so now I don't drive.
JohnnyRingo 55?
@@MrReymoclif714 I can't drive 55.
Sad
It’s life’s been good by joe Walsh from the eagle s
My first car was a 77 Chevy Vega Hatchback, puke brown. Admittedly I got it used (as in Rode Hard and put away Wet) but still it was a nightmare. There were only two good things about that car, it got great gas-mileage (when it ran) and it was absolutely guaranteed never to get stolen! I even tested that out once, one night I parked the car on the street (not a good street). left the keys in the ignition, the door cracked open, and a sign on the roof saying "Steal Me!". Next morning I came out and sure enough, somebody stole the sign.
The 1980-1985 Cadillac Seville. The one they never finished.
NEVER understood the thought process on that trunk!
the H2 is the most hated car that didn’t deserve the hate.
_Change my mind_
@David Moore nope, it's an suv
ahem... you could also drive a robin on a motor cycle licence in the UK... many people forget that one...
That is probably the main reason anyone bought it.
test drove a Yugo in 84..interior panels would pop loose at random. oh..? someone on mojo watched 60 minutes about pinto issues? because those of us who lived the era knew pintos as utterly dependable workhorses! loved them! the snazziest cars in family..big bro had yellow sporter..Mom had gorgeous red station wagon Pinto. they'd get banged around on roads..yanked outa snow banks and always ran!
Yugo push and I'll steer.
The Trabant is the granddaddy of all bad cars. This video doesn't even count without it.
The gremlin. Yeah anyone remember that thing
An ugly car but they were mechanically good cars.
Suzuki Samurai and the Amigo should be on that list.
Where's the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the Chevy Aveo?
Or the Chrysler Sebring, Ford Bronco II, Dodge Stratus, or fourth generation Camaro?
+Darth Gamer yeah
fuck you the PT Cruiser is awesome
Bronco IIs were great! Until you turned, rolled and smashed those crazy expensive curved windows. Oh, and the ones from Missouri never got rust treated because it would have cost four days of work to install the frame dipper. Goes for all ford trucks from Missouri until... I want to say 96? About the same time they re-designed the F150.
haha I am stuck driving my moms 04 PT Loser right now :(
My mom once had a dodge neon, I swear this thing was made from a shopping cart. I forget what year it was made from, but the engine was constantly needing heavy maintenance.
During the same time period they also produced the PT Cruiser. Which, believe it or not, was the EXACT same vehicle just had a different body style.
the plymouth neon was made by 5th graders, find one today, challenge to end all.
The ONE list I do not agree with.
