The issue with changing to single hooks is it sometimes changes the action of the lure. Using bigger singles (same weight as the trebles) can fix that, and also improve hookup. Imo you have to go several sizes up rather than use the same size as the trebles
That definitely improves the hook-up rate. I use in line singles with the same gape distance (point to shank) as the trebles. On small crank baits also, the wobble is marginally better with singles.
I have been modifying my lures for a while now, last year I had a bumper year with single hooks, but I had to learn to play the fish in a different way. It takes time, inevitably during the process you will lose a few fish to start, but finally it is worth it, as we should always think about the welfare of the fish.
What a cracking session buddy and some amazing trout…. Top man !!! Catching trout on surface Lures too !!! .. Rivers open tomorrow !!! GET IN !!! Although I will be at work 😪!!! Be a few days before I get out for an evening session chasing them stripeys & chub !🎣🎣😀😀😀… all the best to ya 👍🏽😀😀
hey Chris, another great video! Nothing is caught here anymore, the ditches have grown over with plants and the water is very brown, you can't see anything anymore, it is very hot so that everything is very difficult, very unfortunate and frustrating! Tomorrow I will take the boat with my fishing buddy to a larger lake, otherwise there is hardly anything to catch. I saw that the water in the UK looks nice and clear! Nice video , till te next one 👍
some great ones in that little stream mate I'd love to have a crack at trout unfortunately theres nowt like that near me eager for start tomorrow I'll be turning in early tonight for it 😉👍
I put some regular hooks on a lure after the treble broke, and it totally changed the fishing. Better to just cut a hook off the treble and have 2 if you want less hassle I think.
I have had great luck with the smallest X-Rap, XR04. Rainbow and Tiger trout both love it. Yellow perch here as well. Not sure if you have tried them out. I too talk to myself while fishing...lol Awesome video. Tight lines.
Great video. Just wanted to mention that you seemed to retrieve the popper really fast like a wake bait almost. You may want to slow down your retrieve and jerk the popper so it makes a “bloop” sound. Cheers!
And the moral of this story is LEAVE THE TREBLE HOOKS ON YOUR LURE!😉😁 Excellent vid as always Chris. Those trout are simply stunning looking.☺ Happy 16th of June for tomorrow. I hope you are going somewhere good. Tight lines for the 21/22 season.🎣☺
So good to be back on the rivers had me first Chuck yesterday afternoon first summer pike came on the pole whilst fishing for live bait😂tight lines lads
I find we in the US, and again regionally, seem to have different lures offered and there are gaps in the market in most situations. Heddon Teeny Torpedo, 1 1/2" 1/8 oz. prop bait is good, Rebel Crickhopper. I think the Zara Spook slide or dog walk is more the trout speed than a popper. If you can get someone to tie a deer hair mouse pattern that is heavy enough for spinning gear and floats, take it to a river with big trout. The limiting factor is the bank area where terrestrial food might be. Cranks, spoons, jigs and spinners cover the entire body of water. Nice. I'm mildly jealous, but you are nowhere near my area. Enjoy.
those are really nice fish from that tiny stream. as for the effect of singles on the lure action: does it catch fish? btw: I wear rubber beach shoes when I'm wading. less hassle than flip-flops
Awesome Trout Chris, you're getting a tan plenty of sunshine. Did you notice the blue bucket hanging from the branch ? Great video as always mate ,all the best from Downunder 👍
Advice never share where you fish next time you go There can be 20 fisherman in Youre spot That posibly dont catch and release Sooner or later you gonna regret sharing 😉
what set up do you use for fishing these tiny streams/creeks. what reel and weight rod? as well as what lb braid do you use. ive tried asking on 3 videos D:
Dont know if this will help you but if ya lookin for rod mate the gunki finesse game rods are cracking for the money i got the 0.5-7gram and it best rod i ever bought landed double figure carl n large chub no hastle, canr got wrong with shimano sedona 500 or 1000 and some 5lb hto light game braid is mega stuff
Good bit of filming and some lovely fish too. You swopped out the trebles for single micro barb on the popper, but the new one out of the box?? Was just wondering why, having a pair of pliers you did not squash the barbs down ?? Hope you don't mind, just a thought. Virtualy all my lures have flattened barbs, both salt and fresh water. All the best, Les.
Yo you are fishing for WILD BROWN TROUT like they are PIKE . These fish are very delicate . Remember when you started pike fishing ?. The TROUTS SCISSORS are as delicate as the pikes gill rakers they are easily damaged and they need to rest . we are watching this like you would watch someone that had just started pike fishing This is not criticism it is constructive criticism All The very best to you and yours Please catch some more trout
The single hooks were both fitted incorrectly, they should of been the other way around. The belly hook has very little chance of hooking a fish in that position, pretty weedless though!
Trout we are safe here no one can reach us....
The Ginger fisherman in flip flops 😅

Your fishing on so many different species is awesome. Like it very much. Greetings from Germany.
Great job man, I'm always amazed at how much trout love hanging out in shallow water!
some great ones in that little stream mate I'd love to have a crack at trout unfortunately theres nowt like that near me eager for start tomorrow I'll be turning in early tonight for it 😉👍
Glad I’m not the only one who talks to themselves! 🤣 Great vid.

Its better for releasing and hooking em in the scissor. But for big Pikefishing i always use full trebles

Another great episode!! Love the variety, keep em coming!!👍🏻🎣

Great vid Chris, thanks for sharing 🖒🖒🖒
There just smashing that lure, fairplay keep up the good work great video.
Really good stamp of fish, nice one!
Some good trout out of a tiny stream
No toe nail varnish this time!!!
Great video - thank you.
Great vid mate you can hold trout by ther gill covers with your fingers and it doesn’t harm the fish if you do it probably 👍🏼

What a session bet you enjoyed that one 👌
Fantastic video.

Love this trout fishing session
Well done mate keep up the work 👍
Awesome Trout Chris, you're getting a tan plenty of sunshine. Did you notice the blue bucket hanging from the branch ? Great video as always mate ,all the best from Downunder 👍
lovely looking trout,
What until the river season starts and use the popper on there for pike. I love surface baits for summer pike. They absolutely hammer them.
Hi buddy. Just wondering what brand and size of singles you change you hooks to on your lures
Gota love trout 😀
It’s like a new catchphrase ‘I’ve wet me hand’.
Love your videos man great job man
Where you fish at ? Reminds me of when I was alot younger. Good trout!
Advice never share where you fish next time you go There can be 20 fisherman in Youre spot That posibly dont catch and release Sooner or later you gonna regret sharing 😉
Will be chasing them perch in the Drain tomorrow!
Or a car park puddle.
The fish caught the fisher man and freed itself !
Flipflops down the river tomorrow, might go myself and see if I can get some Pike on video 😁👍
Thats some awesome stream. How do you find these spot!?
Splashtastic 🤣
Very nice👍👍👍
I imagine trout are more interested in top water lures when the water surface is just eight inches above the creek bottom.
You really oughta remove one or both trebles, they are just not good for trout when you want to release them. One treble is already more than enough.
Great session Chris, do you need permit or licence to fish for trout in streams, its very controlled here in ROI.
Witamy z Polski.
Super film tak jak każdy.....
Piękne ryby gratulujemy.
Pozdrowienia z Warszawy 👊👊👊
Please oil your reel mate. Great video but please give your thirsty reel some oil. It is squealing in desperation for some lubrication
Strange hook placement. Dont they go normaly they other way? @1:28
Hey Bro, nice Vids! Could u tell me which cameras you use?
You're walking that very small creek in flip flops. Do you not have venomous snakes in England? Beautiful browns!
Rats are the problem here with all the disease they carry it’s not ideal getting a cut and it’s goes bad.
hi mate great channel, what rod and reel are you using in this vid ??
what set up do you use for fishing these tiny streams/creeks. what reel and weight rod? as well as what lb braid do you use. ive tried asking on 3 videos D:

Great vid as always, what brand of sunglasses ?
I have 2 rivers in walking distance of my house bigger and deeper than that river with 0 fish in them, sad really nice rivers.
Are they poisoned
They were all good size. How much does license cost in there?
Rapala ultralight pop? I'm gonna try it
What line are you using with that clip cheers
Hi Chris, what kind of rod did you use,if i may ask,,thanks
Can you tell me what rod your using in this vid please
How do you find out if you can fish in a river? How do you find out who owns the river and if there are any restrictions or fees to pay to fish there?
Cool. Beans
Waa that a rapala frog popper
That reel sounds like it needs some WD40 or oil, haha.
Isn't it the braid that makes the noise?
Only thought you could catch trout on a fly 👍
and all the trout men yap about pike eatting fish when they take mepps spinners all day, trout and bream 2 of the shittest fighting fish to catch 😴
Could you tell us about your setup?
Just went out after some nice trout and broken my net handle before wetting the line gutted 😢
Have you ever used a whopper plopper and are they any good?
Good bit of filming and some lovely fish too. You swopped out the trebles for single micro barb on the popper, but the new one out of the box?? Was just wondering why, having a pair of pliers you did not squash the barbs down ?? Hope you don't mind, just a thought.

All the best,

what is ur rod setup?
What this the river?
Have you ever hooked yourself?

Couldn't agree more. Pretty gnarly fish handling, wrenching those trebles out with pliars - painful to watch
Catch fish in Leeds Liverpool canal Leeds end
The single hooks were both fitted incorrectly, they should of been the other way around. The belly hook has very little chance of hooking a fish in that position, pretty weedless though!
Never seen a lure fisherman walk towards his lure so much when reeling 😂 proper sausage
Geez, if you bring the fish in any faster you will strip the flesh of the fish and just bring in the bones.
The reel screams lube me
Are you in a ditch.
