You can tell its a good fishing channel when you don't skip a boring bit when watching, your channel Chris is where no one ever skips a second, splendid videos always
The first chub was pristine, never seen a hook in its life, the colour of the fins, now I understand why that was all my late father fished for, all the times he'd ring and want me to go fishing, because I was running an illegal business, I would say I was busy, when you grow up & realise life ain't all about a few quid, now I go alone and l think of what I would give just to hear him call me numb nuts! or some other abuse, but that was his way, gonna try and take some of the surface, thanks fella, brought back memories I had tried to forget, but now I cherish the time we spent together on the bank.Thanks.
Well done and love the drone shots. I have been fishing one of those tiny Salmo bugs for 3 years without a bite. A tiny Mepps spinner catches EVERYTHING.
The cast for that first Pike was a thing of beauty itself, then the take... oooooeeeee!! Great Chub here too, I've never got on with topwater bug type baits, more action with small frog lures.
've used the salmo bugs but struggle to get them to surface straight away. Do you leave them on mono and not use wire trace? I've left the trace on when using them in case a pike takes it but mainly want chub on them.
@@yoyo895 it depends. In very chub heavy locations I use a fluoro leader (around 8lb) of course there's always a chance a pike could take it, but it's very rare on those locations. On venues I think pike are more likely to have a pop I'd use a very light weight trace or wire (around 4kg) designed for fishing with smaller lures (or even UL)
Awesome vid Chris as always!! Salmo is one of the best brand for chub lures. It is also worth to check their hornet wobbler , incredible work and gave me a lot of decent chub recently.
Been a good season so far for me 4.8lb Bream a PB, noted they do give a good fight unlike a few years ago where they gave a half arsed lunge and then roll over float to the top. Caught an eel 2 days ago all on the Tees, don't like eels buggers to unhook at the best of times. Looks like your having fun, some good fish on those bugs, imagine in fall when blackberries drop and you use that black one.
Been using the salmo bug for years especially when i go to Germany fishing the rivers near the black forest and for large and bigmouth bass and musky and pike in USA
Can you do a Timu fishing challenge? I got a baitcaster, braid, soft baits, hooks and other random stuff for about £12. Id love to see what you come up with 😂
Hi! Nice video, this Salmo bug is very popular for catching small chubs in Ukraine, where I am from. But the ultimate bait for big chubs is Jackall One footer crankbait, have you ever used it?
Really enjoy your vids, some great fishing. Although i'd like to see you weigh these fish, def not what your claiming. I'd a pollock yest, 60cm and fat, was 4lb 7oz. I thought it was at least 5.5/6 lolol keep it up man!
Would those bugs work with a single barbless circle or inline hook?? They do look really cool I'm gonna have a look and try em for wild brown trout and set trout/salmon I reckon they'd work well.
Hi all - is it right that these triple hooks usually cause more damage to the fish even if they are de-barbed? I remember I used one (for the first time) and it took me ages to get out of the fishes mouth (I imagine very painful for the fish) and I never went back to triples. Would this bug work with a single in-line?
Been loving the content mate, I was just wondering if anybody has a good budget rod/reel combos to suggest, Just starting to get into fishing for pike/perch or anything on lures myself but don’t want to splash out big money yet and I heard you don’t need to spend loads for good gear, appreciate any feed back thanks!
The river colne i fish where all dead all the pike and chub where dead so sad was looking forward to fishing it I don’t know what there putting in the water
I used a salmo lil bug last week, problem was on the third cast the link for attaching said bug decided to break, this rather p'd me off somewhat as the lure just sat broken in an impossible place to retrieve it, gutted I got into top water lures from watching you dude. Your vids are cool, thank you
For me, casting distance matters only when you want to fish large rivers or ponds/lakes, not when fishing in such smaller size rivers/streams. With such lures (which are never going to get "launched" very far no matter how adequate your setup is and how well you can cast since they're light, small and not aerodynamical) and when fishing this kind of river, most of the time you're going to cast them by using their own inertia, not by using the blank's elasticity. This is because the environment is small and demands precision from the angler, not casting distance. This makes the rod's power rather secondary, as opposed to its length and the line's thickness. Also the rods' power is generally indicated with a minimum and a maximum casting weight, with the first one being a recommendation in order to get the most out of the blank, and the second one being rather a "security" in order to preserve the blank, which means that casting something lighter will not damage the rod as opposed to casting something heavier. In the end you are right but for such a settting I think it's not really a big deal. A bit of a wall of text for such a simple conclusion, but I am looking to buy a new rod and that is a part of the process I went through to choose the power I needed, so I got a bit carried away... Anyways if you read this, thank you.
Chris could you please Identify the fish I have in my profile pic, caught on ultralight lure. I originally thought it was a hybrid but the more I look at it the more it looks like a roach, sorry about crap pic not a great photo didn't think it was anything decent 😕 it has red fins & red eyes I didn't even weigh it ffs.😅
It’s so strange seeing you get all these topwater strikes. On the river Nene, we don’t get any surface strikes anymore, since around 2010. We have a theory why, that all the Pike that had a genetic disposition to strike, were taken for the pot, hence never passing on their genes 🧬. Now all that’s left are the dead bait and subsurface hits. I guess the same would apply for Cormorants, taking more brave visible fish.
Loving the drone shots your production quality has gotten so much better recently

Wow, not fished for a decade. But those swims are taking me back to the river I used to fish as a teen in Northamptonshire ... Nostalgia.
Always a pleasure to see you out and about catching some very nice fish. A real mixed bag and certainly worth a watch. Keep em coming mate.
G'day Chris, nice session beautiful Chub. All the best form down under mate 👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Polish Salmo lures are best in the world. No doubt for me. Plus to have such fishy spots is priceless. Regards
Whiplash white is thinned braid ive used to date also. 28lb strain is around 0.03/0.05mm great for casting small lures through the wind
