You can also put the gel from inside aloe leafs or honey on the bottom of your cuts. Lightly applie (maybe thin it out some before applying if you’d like) apply to fresh cut. After that let it callous like normal. Honey and aloe both container natural plant hormones that help everything root faster and the roots come out healthier also.
Wow! I can not believe the inside of your cactus looked so healthy and the outside so unhealthy. Thank you for sharing. Good luck rooting the cutting. 😎
@@PeggysPlants I am glad you took action and saw if it was unhealthy or healthy inside. I too would be afraid to put it by my other plants, not knowing it it could infect them. 😎
I've been trying to find out what I have on my cactus and this looks like it. Only 3 or 4 lesions at the moment, hoping I can save it. Or if worst comes to worst I'll try your treatment 🙂
I have since learned that it is called corking and am told it happens to cacti with age. Thant's about all I know about it other than it isn't cute! LOL I am told it is normal and does not adversely affect the plant. Thanks for watching and best of luck with your cactus!
I actually did an update where I mentioned cutting it was a mistake. I learned that the cactus was experiencing a natural process called corking, which I had never heard of. Thanks for watching!
That's interesting. I wanted to let you know that gardeners in your part of the country are very lucky compared to us up in northern Iowa living in Zone 4. Its depressing to find out about some interesting cold-hardy plant only to discover that its Zone 6 or higher.

Sorry to hear of your cactus problem. With all honesty, I have very limited knowledge when it comes to cacti. Desert Plants of Avalon is a great channel for cactus info.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the plant. However, I learned that what was going on with this cactus is called corking, and it's normal. Not cute...but normal. Thanks for watching.
Honestly Twisty, the more I think about it, the more I'm baffled by this cactus. It just kept looking worse and worse, like nothing was working. I was scared it was going to infect all of my other plants. Who knew!
I learned it's called corking, a natural process in cactus plants. It didn't look any better after cutting it and I ended up tossing it. Then I was informed from a viewer what it actually was. 😳
Aww sad to know. Not to mention thats a very pretty cactus once grown healthy and matures. Btw Browningia hertlingiana is the name. Really expensive in my country.
Hi😊 do u have Instagram? Can u help me with my cactus I would like to send u pic of my plant so u can tell me what's going on or what can I do to help my cactus 🌵
Unfortunately, my knowledge of cacti is very limited. I'm sure there are many people who have much more knowledge on them than I do. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
LOL! Funny you should say that. I was thinking the same thing earlier today. I think I still have it in the bin by my potting bench. If it's there, I will.
I actually found out it is something called corking, which is a natural process. I'm not well versed in cacti and had no idea. I'm pretty sure it's not burn since the portion I cut off grew back the same way, and it was not in the sun. Thanks for watching.
It is called corking, a natural aging process, it was healthy😢
😟 Now I find out. Good to know for the future. Thanks Lisa.
What about the hole? Is that normal?
Lisa Allen
Same thing is happing to my cactus but it doesn't have a hole. i will look into more videos
The hole was most likely still from when it was sick, its dried up with the corking effect
@@beatrizsoto1167 any updates? Are the cacti okay?

Thanks for the tips. I've never used honey or aloe on plants, but it certainly makes sense. I will be trying that in the near future!
That was very helpful. What a shame to have to cut it that way but you couldn't have known if anything we've all learned from it. Thanks again
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
It's reached its maturity, now it's just corking, it's old

I think it called corking which is the bottom of the cactus turns hard or woody because of aging
I have since learned that is exactly what it is.

No, it did not. I have since been told that the scabby looking appearance is a normal thing that happens as some cacti age.

If i let it callous in house(because outside is very cold and it's snowing), will it work?

I accidently overwatered my indoor cacti. Now there are splits on its body. Does that mean its dying😔
There is a chance it can still live. Let it dry out and then comes the waiting game. Good luck!

It was a fungal infection..that stuff could be removed with time and a plaque pick and tweezers
