Hi Julius, thanks for the video! I was stuck for hours thinking there was a bug in gtm for the asterisk * Wildcard, because none of the blogs I read made it clear that you need a space before the asterisk and it's hard to see it in written text. It was only when I watched this video and physically heard you say "then enter space, asterisk" that the penny dropped! So just in case anyone else is also here for this, the SPACE IS IMPORTANT!
Thanks for this. This is the best video I have seen so far that accurately and easily explains click elements and how to best capture relevant information pertaining to them using GTM, the console as well as the datalayer, and how it pertains to creating a trigger in GTM. Great job!
Such a great video that yesterday as GTM beginner i cant sleep cause i cant make thing done but your video address the solution, has ha, looking to get your intermediate course soon, wish your course to be on Black Friday soon.
Thank you a lot 👍. Your videos are unique and helpful. I can only find an explanation for some hidden options or features on Google Tag Manager in your channel. Keep going 💪
Brilliant Julius! Thanks for walking through that! When would you use the options other than Click Element, like click id, click class, etc in GTM All click elements trigger?
Referring to your second example in the video, I set it up (Just Links, All Clicks), when I click the link on my page, the "Link Click" appears in google tag assistant but when I go to the console and type "dataLayer" and hit enter, I am only seeing gtm.js, gtm.dom, and gtm.load. Any reason why the gtm link click is not appearing? Thanks!
Hi Julius, Can you use a class name as a page view trigger in GTM? For example, we have many pages in our checkout process which our developers assigned unique class names to. I'd normally use these classes by assigning a click class trigger in GTM however they aren't applied to any buttons, i.e. when the user clicks 'next' for example. Hope this makes sense. Thanks.
It's possible to track variable attributes? I have 10 different images with different links. When I create track some clicks, I can't leave the field blank after the operator, since it's an variable attribute. any tips?
Hello, Julius. I do everything according to this video, but I doesn't have click element in the summary at all. If I choose "links click" it will fire whenever link is clicked, but when I choose "elements click" it won't show anything. The second problem is that I don't have variables tab in the preview mode, there are Hits Sent, Data Layer and Errors, but no Variables. Could you suggest what is wrong here?
Hey, I'm working with classes, not IDs, and can't seem to get your method to work. Have tried the click element trigger as the class name "class-name", ".class-name", ".class-name,.class-name *" and not working. I've double checked in dev tools, and I can see the classes on my elements. Yet, my tags aren't registering in debug mode for some reason. Also used "class matches CSS selector"
@@AnalyticsMania I figured out the issue. For my triggers I didn't go wrong with this: Click - All Elements -> Some Clicks -> Click classes contains [name of class without "." in front] and Click - Just Links (same setup above worked for me)
Bravo! This is one of the few videos out there that truly isn't just a walkthrough of the documentation.

Only click element variable works with css selectors.
