  • What are the 10 prettiest towns in the county of Cambridgeshire? To determine this, I visited them all. Here's what I found out.
As a disclaimer, this list is neither a social commentary, nor a guide on which are the nicest towns to live, but purely a judgement on the aesthetics of each respective town centre.

Whittlesea is locally famous for mud walls and the annual straw bear festival. Oliver Cromwell also lived in Ely & the cathedral boasts a stained glass museum. Peterborough also boasts a country park called Ferry Meadows, which is part of the wider Nene Park.

Excellent as always, and a fine county you've chose. Visited Cambridge and Ely about 4 years ago, but this was during the lockdown craze, so was limited to what I could see. 🫤
Hope to visit again proper, as well as many of these places. 🙂

I grew up in this area. My home town was mentioned St.Neots. I recognize & have visited most of the places in the video. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching the video. I like your voice. It has a soothing quality I detect a bit of a northern accent

Thank you! I grew up in Lincolnshire, which is northern to some, but not to others!

I could be wrong but I think there are only 13 towns/cities in Cambridgeshire. The ones that didn’t make the list being Soham and Huntingdon (Peterborough just mentioned). Sohan is fair enough because it’s a drab, soulless place. But then saying that, so are Chatteris and Whittlesey. Huntingdon, despite its issues has some very pretty parts to its high street and an interesting history. Ely should have been much higher, probably number 2.
    Interesting video though. 👍🏻

Whittlesey isn't drab, if you explore it a bit it's got a nice fenland vibe... Huntingdon is naff, March is dull... Wisbech apart from a small section is horrible... I find them all grim... I'd put all of those places after Whittlesey. I agree with Ely being much higher though....

Strictly speaking, St Neots has never been on the Great North Road. It used to run through Eaton Socon, which is on the other side of the River Great Ouse. Although it's now part of St Neots, it was in Bedfordshire until 1965. The two towns are very different - St Neots is centred around a market square, while Eaton Socon is mostly a stretch of the old Great North Road with historic coaching inns.

I think Huntingdon should have made the list. I've been there twice, and it's definitely better than March.

I guess you decided Kimbolton was a village rather than a town. The place cant make up its mind... But the sign as you enter says town.

    • @AlexinGreatBritain

Yep, hit the nail on the head there. To my knowledge there's no weekly market in Kimbolton, so I had to take a hard-nosed stance and disqualify it!
