The cultural celebrations, Summerfest, and the highway that goes above the city (so you get kinda a bird's eye view of the city) are my favorite things about Milwaukee. Glad you enjoyed your visit! Also, even though Milwaukee may be underrated, I've been told tourism has gone up 600% in the last couple of years, so it's definitely growing.

I have to agree with this guy's analogy I'm originally from Kansas City Missouri but I've lived literally everywhere in the country due to my ability to travel with my job. On a whim I moved to Milwaukee having a friend that was from there and invited me to come up and I end up staying 3 years and I thought about settling down there permanently but I honestly could not handle the winters lasting so long and that was about it. Milwaukee truly is a great City by A Great Lake. A very underestimated City you can't beat Milwaukee in the summertime
I just went to KC and have a video about that. My older brother lives there and I feel that is an underrated city also. But yeah, Milwaukee is great but I don’t think I could handle the winters either haha thanks for watching!
@@JakeMillerDoesTravel yes Kansas city's definitely underrated too but I'll take Milwaukee over KC any day of the week well maybe not the winter months haha!
I think the way to deal with the cold winters in Wisconsin is having the ability to take a week or two off in Jan and or February and escape to a warmer state. For those who have limited vacation time and chose to use it in the summer, the winter months require they remain in the state and the winters can be cold and long.
I totally agree. I moved to Wisconsin from Los Angeles 20 years ago. No regret at all cause I have had enough to live in the big city. When I told my friends about living in WI, all they think about is " Snow " and " Cold Weather ", and they all have reluctant to visit, that is really BS. West Coast has no prime either; look at the Heat, Drought, Wildfire, Earthquakes and traffic that they are dealing with.
@@JakeMillerDoesTravel Thanks for reminding me about the traffic. I took a trip to Vegas and stopped by LA for 5 days two years ago. Stayed at Glendale, my friend got me at LAX and found out a major accident on the 101 Freeway, so she took 405N, there was another accident, freeway closed to 2 lanes, exited at Bentwood and took local all the way to Glendale. Total traffic time was more than 5 hours which is like Flying from WI to LA.
@@JakeMillerDoesTravel One more issue which is the Housing. Either Rental or House Pricing is just unbelievable high, we sold our house in Los Feliz for $575K in 2000, it is worth $2.2M now. How would the world make it go up to $2.2M?

Bradford Beach with a lack of police and people going wild? No thanks. There were people driving recklessly (and fast) on the sidewalks a week or two ago.

I've lived in towns and areas near New York City, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, San Francisco and Seattle, as well as 4 foreign countries. Milwaukee's my favorite.
The Zoo was once rated one of the top 2 or 3 in the nation. Perhaps back in the 60's. Today, big cities have benefactors that donate huge sums to the Zoo's and new exhibits can be created. The San Diego Zoo is very impressive. You might need to visits to see it all. 35 miles north of San Diego is the Wild Animal park. It is not cheap, maybe $45 per ticket, but it is worth it. The park is very large so there are trams and buses that allow you to see it, without all the walking. There are plenty of shade trees, benches and food courts, the same is true of the San Diego Zoo. Huge donations from many wealthy families have allowed these two public parks, to make the visitor experience first class.
I live in Milwaukee, and my wedding was at a museum overlooking the lake. People thought we were married in Italy or Greece, with the emerald blue lake in the background. I love Milwaukee!
You mostly stayed in the downtown area, but there's more to Milwaukee. Next visit, try the Mitchell Park Domes, south of downtown. Always enjoyed going to the Domes when I lived there. Also this video is incomplete because you made no mention of trying delicious frozen custard, found at many places in and around Milwaukee.
Those are awesome recommendations! I definitely would like to go back and this will be added to the list of things to do. Thanks for watching and the recommendations!
True! I worked at a frozen custard place in Pewaukee a couple years ago and had a few Australians and English people visit during summerfest and at other times over the summer.
I live in Minneapolis and I love Milwaukee. I’ve been to lots of shows at the Bradley, Shank Hall, the Riverside Theater, Summerfest stages and a little bar called Thurmun’s 15. I also went to many Twins & Brewer’s games at County Stadium back when the Brewers were still in the AL and were divisional rivals of the Twins. Many great restaurants and local neighborhood pubs.
Minneapolis is a place I want to visit! The summers look awesome but am unsure about the winters! Sounds like you made the most of your time in Milwaukee which is awesome!
I live here & we have so much diversity in cuisine; great Peruvian, Ethiopian, Cuban & Jamaican restaurants; besides the popular Super clubs, bars & fish fry diners!!! The Food scene throughout the city is to die for; you won't be disappointed!!! Once the Pandemic dust settles; things will get back to being exciting!!!!
Milwaukee born and raised. I feel blessed to have been born in a city and State that suits me to perfection. If you're looking for somewhere in the U.S. to visit and discover, I highly recommend Milwaukee. I've never spoken with a less than happy visitor/traveler in my 58 years of living here. Thanks for your comprehensive, complementary video. If you ever return for another visit, I could help you discover other gems in Milwaukee that you didn't mention. Thanks, again.
Born and raised in the Brew City and there are several things I wish you would've mentioned like Pabst Theater/Marcus performing Arts Center and a little more about the east side. You want the best coffee you gotta go to Rochambo (personally I miss Rory's and Sunset Blvd but thats lates 90s, lol) Plus Downer Street area and the Domes. I'm actually glad you didn't list Potowatomi Casino, but you missed Leons and Kopps for custard, Pizza Shuttle for the greatest by-the-slice pizza and Mazo's for burgers, plus Miss Katie's 50s style diner where all the presidents eat when they visit. But we have other beaches too like Doctor's park furthur north and Grant Park/7 Bridges beach furthur south (both still in Milwaukee Co. but outside the "city"). Oh and you forgot our local celeb the Millverine, lol Regardless its great to see a vid like this about Milwaukee cuz despite being the most racially segregated city and having huge sections of low income citizens we have TONS of great things to offer all year round and our little-ish city really is beautiful. And truly UNDERRATED
So many great recommendations! I actually tried going to Rochambo but they were closed but you gave me a full list of ideas and places to come back too! Thanks for all that!
Born and raised in Milwaukee. It is cool to see it from a “tourist” perspective. Views and things I have always taken for granted you highlight nicely. Very cool video. Reading the other comments it’s cool to see the positivity around Milwaukee. That makes me happy! I do love the 414!! P.S. Stay away from the North Side! Haha!!
Yeah, I think it’s always cool to see a first time perspective on a city you live in. Thanks so much for watching and yeah I’ve gotten a lot of recommendations about staying away from the north side haha
I was born and raised in Milwaukee and I'm proud to say it is at long last becoming a vibrant city. Very overdue, and for the longest time I couldn't say that. Now, although it was a great video from beginning to end, I'll focus on just one small part of it. That's because this video is the only one I've seen that informs and shows the viewer that Milwaukee is home to several wonderfully large and lengthy sandy beaches. How many people know that? When I was growing up we went to Bradford Beach every weekend in the summer, but when I visited the city several years ago, for the first time in a long time, I was stunned at how packed the beaches had become. Way more than I remember. Not overcrowded yet, but certainly enough to suggest the word has gotten out. We had a great lunch down there, and for several hours we watched the professional volleyball tournament taking place. And as you sit there, you are surrounded by stunning scenery. In front of you is the breathtaking lake, with all of its sailboats, for as far as the eye can see. To your right you can see downtown, and behind you are the Lake Michigan Bluffs, and to your left, running north, is a continuation of the bluffs and the beach and the lake. It is truly a beautiful city and a terrific video. I've got to take a trip back there this summer.
@@JakeMillerDoesTravel Downtown is always fun, and I went to a “Tool” concert once. The vibe was great, and it wasn’t only because of the amazing band, but because of the people, and of course, the city itself! Cheers. 👨🏻🎤🍻🍺
I love Milwaukee and am really excited to go back, just stay somewhat close to the lake and you’ll have a fantastic time. I’ve been to cities like Miami, Chicago, Minneapolis and Washington DC but I don’t think I liked a large city I like as much as Milwaukee in the USA between the great architecture the fantastic nature in and surrounding and kind folk everywhere. Much obliged sir.
Totally agree. I thought Milwaukee was a nice mix of having things to do like a big city but still walkable and had the feels of a smaller town. I only really stayed in the downtown areas but still great time
As a Milwaukean, I appreciate the video. The downtown and lakefront areas are super cool with tons to do, but the rest of the city definitely has some issues to fix. I like how you talked about the beaches because not a lot of people realize that Wisconsin has very nice beaches along the lake.
Totally! Every city had plus and minuses. I live in Phoenix and it’s 120 during the summer. But as a tourist I thought Milwaukee had a lot to offer and really enjoyed my time there!
Awesome video Jake!! I have moved here, I am a local Realtor and run a channel on Milwaukee; you are absolutely right: it is unexpectedly nice, but also an acquired taste I think - we have a lot more people relocating here in recent years and when I ask them why, they say it has a cool vibe, friendly people and great food. I have several friends who moved to AZ and SoCal or Vegas and came back. I have see some comments on here which are factually incorrect, unemployment for example in Wisconsin is well below national average at 3.8% in April 2021 post Covid. We do have poverty and high crime in parts of the inner city (that is Milwaukee proper), but show me one metro area that does not. BTW I see sometimes bad stats about Milwaukee city (600k people), they fail to mention the other 19 municipalities that make up Milwaukee metro (or what you would think is all Milwaukee) - about 1.6 million people. Most of the higher income is in the surrounding municipalities and the stats change dramatically! I was not excited to move here, but now I love it! And I have seen my share of the world!
Must experience these south side eateries and bar: Three Brothers Serbian Restaurant, At Random Bar, Serb Hall for their Friday night baked (or if you want, fried) fish fry, and last, but certainly not least, Leon's for frozen custard. So, if you haven't gotten to these tummy pleasing places, you must return!
You did our city proud! But skip Blue and a cool bar with a view is The Outsider. Uncle Wolfies and Swinging Door Exchange are great restaurants and my favorites but the food is endless. Don't miss the Friday Fish Fry at LakeFront Brewery. Favorite burger is Kopps or Sobelmans. Marquette University is 1 mile north of downtown. Must hit the zoo, the Domes and the Art Museum. Well done!
Umm how were you at Bradford Beach and forgot to add a shot of our infamous incredibly designed Art museum!? Loved this video. Made me rediscover our city and why it's beautiful. Thank you!
Milwaukee is a great city and the entire urban area. I know, I live 50 mins from it. You forgot a bunch of stuff to see while there...there's the Safe House, brewery tours, and several other unique places to explore! Great video!
Hi I’m planning a trip to Milwaukee soon early November I’m wondering what to wear as far as a coat goes🤷🏼♀️🙄A semi thick winter coat OR a semi quilted jacket, I do Tend to get hot easily in a heavy coat unless it’s in the teens or below 12 degrees , 🤷🏼♀️ what do your think Also in early Nov does it rain a lot ? In Milwaukee? Hopefully not🙄🙄 Thanks so much
One of the best kept secrets about Wisconsin is the northern half of the State. From Two Rivers to Sister Bay to Minocqua. My guess is 95% of residents in the southern half, do not know where Washington Island is located and very few have ever been there. It requires a ferry ride and two persons with a car is $65 roundtrip, so many will not add that to their travels. Even fewer venture to Rock Island. That is a second ferry ride, maybe 10 minutes, and a must see place. The food on Washington Island will be a big surprise ! It is fantastic. An absolute gem to visit. Somewhere a resident is reading this post and thinking, oh no don't share that info!
Omg you are the first person to know those places. I used to go to door county every year and Washington island and rock island were included. I've camped peninsula state Park and ate at the place with the goats on the roof and of course Wilson's ice cream just to name a few. I'm happy to hear that someone knows about these places.
PS- I disagree about only visiting Milwaukee during the Summer months. We offer great activities, sights and sounds all year round. If you're not a Winter Soul, then stay away between November and March, but, hello, some people enjoy Winter and the diverse activities that go with it as well as the magic of cold weather and snow, snow, snow. Milwaukeeans DO NOT hide indoors during our lovely Winter season.
@@JakeMillerDoesTravel Ironically, two of my closest friends live in Phoenix. One is a Milwaukee native, and her wife is a native of Southern California to whom I send short videos and photographs in order to "educate" her about the joys of a Wisconsin Winter. It's a bit of a running joke, but we enjoy the conversation it engenders. On a side note, I have written and published some poetry in my lifetime, and I wrote one called "Winter Soul" (this one is unpublished) which I hope somehow communicates the awesomeness of the Winter season. Thanks for sharing and your friendly responses. Peace.
Shorewood and WhiteFish Bay native. I would say Cedarburg might be the top place to live. It is a little bit of a drive, but an amazing town, with virtually no crime, great schools, modest home prices, and lots of open space and cedar creek and beautiful parks. Having said that, living near Klode Park in Whitefish Bay - south of the park and to the east of Lake Drive is the area, although any address in the Bay is nice.
Just 5 miles north of the downtown, one can take the bike trail, that starts across the street from the Art museum, to visit German style beer gardens at Hubbard Park and Estabrook Park. Don't miss EITHER on a visit to Milwaukee.
It Really is a nice city with a lot of cool neighborhoods. Like any city, it has a lot of socioeconomic problems but with a new mayor and the hop going into MLK area I see a lot of potential in those areas in the coming years. Thanks for visiting and come again during the riverwest 24

The tuition is way high and the student housing all borders a very tough area. There are lots of cameras and campus police that balance those risks. Good programs for nursing, Physical therapy, and engineering. Law school is not highly rated., but Dental school is very good. Yeah, this was early June 2019 at the start of the pandemic. We got in on a Wednesday or Thursday and indoor dining didn’t open up until Friday. Kind of crazy haha
I submit the State is way under rated and the residents are fine with that. The last thing residents want the world to know is all the cool places to see, and then to learn we have the cleanest water of any state and the 12,000 lakes are some of the cleanest in the nation! Outside of the David Koch administration, I mean Scott Walker administration, the Governors of the State have done a great job preserving the beauty of Wisconsin.
@@JakeMillerDoesTravel - There is plenty of competition for vacation destinations. The east and west coasts plus the Gulf will always be popular, given the beaches and nice weather. I have relatives in Middleton, a suburb of Madison roughly 8 miles NW of the city. They have never been to the very scenic town of Cambridge, WIS which I estimate is 10 miles east of Madison and a few miles south of interstate 94. Cambridge is a very small scenic town next to Lake Ripley. The lake is 400 acres and a road surrounds the lake with beautiful homes and cottages. There is a large restaurant about 2 miles from the lake that serves a very popular fish fry on Friday nights, with view of a lake. Driving there in July one summer we passed a corn field with stalks that were 10 feet high. Another tip we were given one year, was a place in Little Sturgeon Bay ( this is in Door County, on the NE side of the state), called the Sunset Bar and Grill. Great food and great views on the Bay. It is several miles off the main road and the speed limits enroute are low, so it takes a little bit of time to get there, but worth it. Little Sturgeon Bay is a nice place to stay and is a few miles south of Sturgeon Bay. Sturgeon Bay is a nice place to stay if you like walking the streets of a small town, but also want the convenience of having several good restaurants close by.

206 murders 2020...beautiful? This city is a shit hole
@@danielspidell7910 That is unfortunate to hear. I live in Phoenix and they had almost 190 homicides and I think New York City had double that and it's my favorite city in the US. Crime is unfortunately everywhere and is sad to see. Where do you live Daniel?
@@danielspidell7910 - The north side and a few neighborhoods on the south side do have high crime rates. Milwaukee County consists of Milwaukee and 14 other suburbs. Crime in those 14 suburbs is low and once outside of Milwaukee county , crime is a non issue.
@@JakeMillerDoesTravel i live in milwaukee , love this city but our bozo mayor would rather spend money on a stupid trolley then hiring extra cops to hit the streets...not only that we don't have a chief of police with a brain he handcuffed the cops and pretty much lets criminals do what they want, you don't even need licence plates on your car in milwaukee the cops do not pull over for that
I love Milwaukee!
Clearly I enjoyed it also!

And the domes
@@mb-349 thanks so much for the added recommendation
@@maxsmith695 San Diego Zoo is pretty awesome!
I live in Milwaukee, and my wedding was at a museum overlooking the lake. People thought we were married in Italy or Greece, with the emerald blue lake in the background. I love Milwaukee!
That sounds amazing! It really is such a beautiful place
Y’all trying to make him go to the domes my man gonna get shot over there 😆 that park ain’t no joke

Thanks so much for watching and totally agree that it is a great place to be!
Oh and you forgot our local celeb the Millverine, lol
Regardless its great to see a vid like this about Milwaukee cuz despite being the most racially segregated city and having huge sections of low income citizens we have TONS of great things to offer all year round and our little-ish city really is beautiful.
I grew up on the north side and yeah you don't want to go there. I'm in Phoenix now but I still miss my city a lot.
Thanks so much for watching! I hate to share your little secret but I thought the city was so cool and had to share!
There is a huge lakefront art festival by the Milwaukee Art Museum and there are a lot of kite flying activities at Veterans park

Thanks for the kind words and all the information! Milwaukee is an awesome place for sure!
I currently live in Charlotte NC, but man Milwaukee looks pretty sweet.....I’m sure winters are tough though.
I made a brief stop in Charolette for some wine tasting and that places looks cool also! Yeah, those winters would be rough I’m sure haha

Hi I’m planning a trip to Milwaukee soon early November I’m wondering what to wear as far as a coat goes🤷🏼♀️🙄A semi thick winter coat OR a semi quilted jacket, I do Tend to get hot easily in a heavy coat unless it’s in the teens or below 12 degrees , 🤷🏼♀️ what do your think
Also in early Nov does it rain a lot ? In Milwaukee? Hopefully not🙄🙄

Looks like we are both trying to provide good tips!
Omg you are the first person to know those places. I used to go to door county every year and Washington island and rock island were included. I've camped peninsula state Park and ate at the place with the goats on the roof and of course Wilson's ice cream just to name a few. I'm happy to hear that someone knows about these places.
Nice! Shout out to the Near West Side of Milwaukee!
Thanks for watching!
We also have a soccer team (Milwaukee Wave) and an AHL team (Admirals).

That is such a great tip! I live in Phoenix so our "winter" drops into the 30s for about a week and everyone freaks out haha

I didn’t mean to try and share the secrets!

Thank you for doing this video! I agree that Milwaukee is a great city, but I may be biased as I live here!
Oh yeah, if I could handle the winters Id consider moving there
I was in Milwaukee and the overall environment is a bit cold literally and figuratively to POC. There was a tinge of fear when I engaged with dominant majority according to the census..But a decent city
Oh bummer, when were you out there? I was visiting June of 2020 so it probably was a unique vibe but still enjoyed my time!
Let's go Bucks!
Giannis is a beast!
Thank you for your video!!!😊
Thanks for watching!
From Brazil...sir, and about the criminality? Its a safe place with a low dangerous (crime) in the citi? Thanks you for atention .
I think outside the downtown area there is crime. Most large cities in the US will have some level of crime and this is no different. I didn’t encounter and I think as long as you stay in good areas you’ll be okay
