  • After several months of RVing in rural and remote places of Michigan and Wisconsin, we were super excited to be back in a city! We spend two days exploring Milwaukee trying tons of great food, visiting a brewery (after all it is named brew city), and enjoying the beautiful riverfront. See why we love Milwaukee.

    Thank you for giving Milwaukee a kind review. Most people don't understand what a treasure this city is. For it's size, it has great museums, theaters, wonderful shopping, quaint neighborhoods, and tons of activities. I call it a little "big"city. I typically will run into people I know when I am out and about in MKE (I live in the northern suburbs). BTW great video captures on this segment

It's like $20 or more to get in and is usually held for 11 days at the end of june beginning of july but was in September this year with a weekend schedule because of covid. @@EatSeeRV go travel outside milwaukee around the lake country. Hartland, Nashotah, Chenequaa, Oconomowoc, Delafield. That is where all of the founders of southeast wisconsin are from and settled to and where they were right after the native americans. Most came from germany and scananavia such as norway, denmark. Thanks for this video. I live in the Milwaukee metro area. Glad you enjoyed your visit here. The city tends to be underrated; some stereotype it as being backwards or run down but as you've shown, that's not true at all. Much of what we have to offer in food and culture is first class. Dining or walking by the riverfront is so nice and there's nothing like just looking out across Lake Michigan.

    One notable branch of cuisine you missed in Milwaukee is Greek. We had gyros here before they were cool ;) The Greek family restaurant niche was, for the longest time, late night or even 24h operation. C19 mostly put paid to that. Once you go to "obviously" Greek restaurants like Pegasus, Omega, Mykonos, Oakland Gyros, or Genesis, you start spotting the same hallmarks in many other late night (often 24h, before C19) "family" restaurants around Milwaukee, such as Ma Fisher's, you realize they're all part of that same niche.

I highly recommend going to the Sherman Phoenix if you get back to town. Similar to the Public Market, but it's almost all Black-owned businesses. Lots of food, services and culture! You would have to have gone on the Near South Side for the Mexican food. Not only plenty of Mexican restaurants over there but plenty of Mexican food trucks too. By statistical data most Mexicans in Milwaukee come from 3 regions: Mexico, Texas, and California. Why they come from California to Milwaukee's ice covered winters I have no idea.

      The most Mexicans through the last decades have come through Milwaukee to pick and can the agricultural crops of the harvest season. Very naturally, through the years many have settled through the years on their way to northern Wisconsin. Very rich and beautiful Mexican heritage and place to experience the culture and food of Mexico and southern US.

    • @brewcity2317
      @brewcity2317 2 роки тому +1

      @@terraincognita2765, yeah, there are lots of Mexican working on Wisconsin farms. Although, I'm not sure that drives most Mexican settlement in Milwaukee specifically. For example, the Mexican from California brought one of their California gangs to the South Side of Milwaukee. And there are lots of Mexicans working in Grede foundry. Mexicans have pretty much taken over residential roofing and arguably commercial drywalling too--at least in labor in the latter, in operating companies as well in the former.

      I live near Milwaukee and was thinking same, you need to go the the Near South Side for a Mexican food experience. (BTW my understanding is that our large Mexican population is rooted in skilled workers being brought from Mexico to work in the tanneries way back in the old days.)

    I love that you love Milwaukee!! Just some food for thought- I used to go to red light ramen before they had a brick and mortar space (it was on Saturdays after 11 at Ardent) but I no longer support them after some very concerning things about the owner Justin Carlisle came to my attention. The restaurant industry can be a weird place, but I don't support serial cheaters and people who treat others poorly. Next time you come, try Tochi in West Bend instead. It's better anyway!

    I was born and raised in Northwest Milwaukee but moved to Colorado after college, many years ago. When I went back to Milwaukee in 2008 and again in 2017, it was very disappointing and sad to me. . The once vibrant downtown was dilapidated and nothing much there. The Lakefront was as I remembered, still pretty. Maybe the city is better in 2021. Glad you enjoyed it however.

      It is better now. There has been a slew of new construction, downtown and elsewhere. Almost all of the expressways feeding into town are getting rebuilt and upgraded right now. The former Grand theater on Wisconsin Ave, vacant for _decades,_ has been brought back to life as the Warner, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra's new home, practice space, and performance stage (freeing up dates at the Marcus Performing Arts Center for other acts)
