Running gag. I'm not really a waiter.... I'm not really a gorilla... I'm not really an axe murderer.... I'm not really a blues man... They all have one.
I once went on a date with a girl in University, and she basically did what Dave did. She took me to the worst restaurant in town on purpose so that we could laugh at how bad it was. It was a good time lol
This is the kind of self-referential sketches that Python was so famous for. KITH is really the inheritor of Python. We don't have anything like this these days...thank goodness for You Tube and fans like arielplain. Kudos!
78deathface In Japan, where I live, it is still pretty normal to have smoking in restaurants (with many not even having a non-smoking section.) When I got pregnant last year I had to stop going out to eat because of all the secondhand smoke, and that is when I realized how completely ridiculous smoking in public is. I've always hated it, mind you, but when you HAVE to avoid it in a country that still has smoking sections, it just seems so unfair to pregnant women, people with small children, people with asthma, etc etc.
I was an adolescent when this show was on. I didn't understand the jokes, now that I do, I feel as those years were wasted. Glad I revisited these skits, funny dudes.
I remember this as "putrid soup" when it aired on the CBC. Scott Thompson is even more emphatic with the caboose and engine line and with the "enjoy the soup!" line in that other recorded version that I can recall.
i have all of the seasons on dvd...and every episode has a sketch that got cut out on comedy central,i think they did it to cut down the time, buying the dvds are recommended to fans...youll find a whole bunch of surprises
Reminds me of being introduced to "stinky tofu" in Taiwan. Literally smelled like rotting garbage that had been sitting in a dumpster for a week. But that's why some people like it, apparently. An acquired taste, I suppose. It's not bad cooked, though, with a ton of chili sauce.
I think you are misunderstanding, the "Putrid Soup" version was the one I saw in Canada on CBC. Kids in the Hall was made in Canada and they a censored version for the US. I prefer the Putrid soup version. :P
@TheEXpothead Yeap, did you see that sketch with mckinney and the fly?, you can't missed it because is in the same "chapter", you know "S01E19". He says "screw" intead of "fuck"... yeah, i've got that version in the torrent (15 G!!!), but i originally saw the "fuck" episode, with "shitty" included. That's a shame, but i care just a little because i saw the two version at least. Greetings.
hmmm...on my dvd they say "putrid soup". i even checked it again and they definitely say "putrid soup" on mine. it even has some slightly different camera shots...i wonder why they recorded two different versions?
@ellesbelles77 Watch your mouth. KITH is gold. Yes, Death Comes to Town isn't as good as the sketch comedy, but it's refreshing to see the guys on TV again. Death Comes to Town is a good one-line sketch, but the actual sketch comedy of the series is good.
I love how Scott faced the wrong camera and then corrected his stance. It's the second time I've seen it happen with him. It's very subtle but funny.
I didn't notice at all; he was very subtle. Excellent actor!
I KNEW HE WASN'T REALLY A WAITER!
I love Scott Thompson!

Gotta love Scott, so funny and confident.
“Smoking or non?”
Remember those days? Seems crazy now that people were just smoking in restaurants. I remember when they had ashtrays IN THE BANK. 😳

I remember ashtrays in the HOSPITAL :) And that wasnt even 20 years ago.
In the early 1990s you could smoke in class at University
I remember ashtrays in elevators!
Right? Ah well, smoking is best as an outdoors activity, usually. Imo.
I was an adolescent when this show was on. I didn't understand the jokes, now that I do, I feel as those years were wasted. Glad I revisited these skits, funny dudes.
haha i like how the entire idea of this skit is that scott thompson is RUINING the skit
"...and why is he playing it so gay?"
natural mode of living for him
Choo choo choo, here comes the soup traaaaain!
i wonder if the South park guys were inspired to create "City Wok"
The whole Scott Thompson joke is epic,,,
🎼Two shitty soups ,coming right up 🎼
These guys were always pushing the limits and that's what made them great to watch.
wtf happened to humor
This is one of their more genius skits
I remember this as "putrid soup" when it aired on the CBC. Scott Thompson is even more emphatic with the caboose and engine line and with the "enjoy the soup!" line in that other recorded version that I can recall.
Yeah, me too! Choo-choo-choo it's the putrid soup!
Scott is one lovable fruit!
When I first watched this, they actually changed it to putrid soup, which actually sounded funnier, for some reason.
Scott is brilliant as always.
Olive garden?????
😂
"You gotta swallow to get the whole effect!" LOL
i have all of the seasons on dvd...and every episode has a sketch that got cut out on comedy central,i think they did it to cut down the time, buying the dvds are recommended to fans...youll find a whole bunch of surprises
Most of this sketch was cut when they aired it on Comedy Central. I never saw the whole thing until I got the DVD in 2007.
Scott is the Graham of the Kids.
I know, right! :D
Who the hell's Graham?
pcwkid76 from Monty Python. You might recognise him as Brian and King Arthur.
+pcwkid76 And they are both the gay one.
Kids in the hall is funnier today then it was back then.....way ahead of its time
Loved "Kids in the hall" as a kid here in England 👍
"all that fusssss about a few ssssssesss"--Mr. Buddy Cole, Esq.
I love how he tries to fix his limp wrist at the end X)
You were right, too Scott!! You are an icon now!!
Kids in the Hall was the best, its like SNL, but funny.
One of my favorite sketches.
Well...tuck in.
Caboose of soup and engine of soup is funny
I didn't mind the soup so much, but I loved the service!
I always thought it was the putrid soup. That's what it was when I first watched it.
Whenever i think of Shitty Soup..the BIG MAC comes to mind.
Inside any can of Progresso. :-)
That is...one of the most...interesting things I have heard all day. Love the theological twist at the end.
KITH forever.
Scott really gayed it up there
I LOVE dave foley😆💐

Flamboyant Scott Thompson is probably the funniest member of the troupe. (And yes, I mean "Ha-ha" funny.)
I think you are misunderstanding, the "Putrid Soup" version was the one I saw in Canada on CBC. Kids in the Hall was made in Canada and they a censored version for the US.
I prefer the Putrid soup version. :P
I can't find the putrid version anywhere! I'd love to see it
Perfection.
Even then, Lorne Michaels didn't have a sense of humor. Just look at the Martin Lawrence incident. Ha ha ha.
I love this fucking show
This is great.
This is how I imagine it's like when people have stuff like.. coffee..
Choo choo choo, here comes the soup train!
This reminds me of how we've either done or have this done to us (or both): "this smells really bad. Smell this!" :-)
Scott Thompson would have made a good 007 :o)
A caboose of soup!
in french they call this: potage merdique
Epic!
You can wash it down with toilet water (freshly used toilet, please). Waiter probably got a shitty tip!
@CaitlinBrooksMusic
Every sketch comedy group has ONE.
Hiliarous😜
@mysticx0 They always recorded alternate takes for US TV.
Those well pointed thumbs. Cheers.
Scott Thompson predicted the future with gay people, huh? Lol
This sketch sort of reminds me of the scene in Always Sunny where Mac and Charlie commit to eating rancid soup.
Alright, the good version! No putrid soup censorship!
PREMISE!
It's too bad he didn't make it with his very own...
At 2:37 I was like "Holy shit, I didn't even notice!", and then someone gave me a thumbs down...
I'm in Canada and was completely expecting "putrid soup"
I'd figure they'd be just as relieved it wasn't soup of shit.
I mean he kind of did become a folk hero. I mean dude's super famous in the gay community
I had a better response but it came out much differently than how I had said it in my head. so, to answer your question, yes.
Are the going to interrupt the sketch to celebrate Scott playing a waiter for the 1000th time?
Scott looks like Patrick Swayze!
Baker knows this because he blew the Swayze personally
This was "Putrid Soup" in it's uncensored format
DAVE FOLEY

That's the version I always remember from CBC... but I thought CBC didn't censor it? Maybe from the American cut?
this is Brechtian
@Colddeed It wasn't dubbed, they just filmed an alternate version of the sketch.
It's awful, that's why they call it "shitty".
Best sketch show ever.
Anyone else notice how they didn't pay for the food? They just dined 'n dashed!
10111269
You never pay for shitty soup.
Kevin payed at 2:20
@ellesbelles77 Yeah I'm in the US. OH THATS WHY lol thank you I thought they changed it
When I sar this on TV they dubber the word "putrid" over "Shitty"
those other customers, are they alive?
That's some damn good shitty soup.
Didn’t Scott have a skit celebrating his 150th skit as a waiter?
hmmm...on my dvd they say "putrid soup". i even checked it again and they definitely say "putrid soup" on mine. it even has some slightly different camera shots...i wonder why they recorded two different versions?
This is also how Nickleback got famous.
yea i saw it on tv as putrid too
I was going to say anything your mother starts cooking.
gayatainment
I heard the vegetarian chili is good though.
I don't know, but the sketch originally aired on HBO in the US. I'm assuming it's edited for the Comedy Central/Network reruns.
In the censored version they called it putrid soup. :)
in Palermo Argentina it´s full of shitty soup!!!
@blindthrall Dont you mean Daniel Tosh?
it's way funnier/grosser when they have to call it putrid soup for the censors
@OnyxKing332 Are you in the US? Cause if you are they probably censored it, as usual.
@mysticx0 maybe because they couldn't publish the word shitty? crazy I tell ya!
Kevin pays at 2:20 ;)
Nice find
Was this edited into "putrid" for a later airing? Someone uploaded it as that.
