What I observe in shonans. The protagonist is usually impossibly lucky with genetics and peers able to elevate their hard work. Almost nobody could emulate them I real life (obviously cut the fantasy, life is much more mundane). Best most of us can be in the grand scheme of things is a Lee or Guy. Work your ass off and be endearing. It’s why they tend to be fan favorites.
