No, what they need to do is use the one on Macon to take traffic off Atlanta...

What’s the point of cutting forest 60 miles away from the metro area for a new airport? It’s more logical and less environmentally impactful to continue to expand the existing airport.

The point is the highway and public transportation system already can’t handle the traffic it has. More flights would be a disaster. That traffic needs to be divided between multiple areas

Why would they need to build one? Seattle did it by using an already existing airport. Why couldn't they just use Fulton County or Cobb County Airport as their 2nd airport?

@@neox9369 Yes, when you are talking about an airport to serve the city. Absolutely. Traffic will easily spike it to 2 hours. Just look at GA-400 when one little car crash or incident occurs there.

@@justrandomthings319i disagree, many many people travel from the north fulton, Forsyth and surrounding areas to Hartsfield-jackson. The airport drive from there is awful. a smaller airport in dawson would help a lot. The dawson forest doesn’t need to go though. it’s very beautiful.

I don’t know if Atlanta wants to build a second airport just yet. I mean, Hartsfield-Jackson is the only one they have right now. So why even bother building a second airport at all? DeKalb-Peachtree Airport is like the second-busiest in metro Atlanta, and Dobbins won’t accept commercial flights because that air base is only used for military purposes. I think in order for Atlanta to build another airport, it has to be nearly similar to other smaller airports like Chicago’s Midway Airport, for example.

The logical decision would be to expand what already exsit.

    • @breegis
      @breegis 5 місяців тому

That wouldn’t work. The airport is surrounded by industrial parks and suburbs, making any expansion to the airport would result in the destruction of homes and businesses.

Why put an airport that far away? It’s not just the airport but the need for good logistics. Athens would make a lot more sense or something closer to the North South traffic flow.
You don’t have proper roads in and out of Dawson County. Why does Atlanta own so much land in Dawson County?

  • @davidh9844

Hartsfield is an incredibly efficient, easy to use airport. Dobbins in Cobb County, 30 miles north is already built and available. Put in some terminals and parking, use it for select, heavy use routes and voila! For a small fraction of the cost of a whole new airport, you've just made Hartsfield even more efficient, and eliminated a huge amount of traffic coming from north of the city going down to Hartsfield. Not in my lifetime, that isn't how the City of Atlanta works. By the way, I've lived here 40 years. Where is Dawson County?

What they are going to do is finish taking over All of Clayton County that's what's going to happen.

They don’t need a secondary airport. They just need to expand the airport acreage, add in a couple more runways and build multiple new terminals. 80-85% of people arriving at ATL airport is just there for a connecting flight, majority of passengers there are never even walking out of the terminal, ATL has the highest amount of connecting passengers in the world, which makes sense, whaat that amount of people going to do in Atlanta lmao. Just expand the current airport. No reason to build a new airport for a city that has such a low non-connecting passenger count.

Having two large airport makes no sense unless you want to lose money. Atlanta is not a tourist destination like New York.
In my opinion, they need to expand the current international terminal at Atlanta.

The fact that they choose to have road access for both departures and arrivals on the same floor is ridiculous and inefficient. They should have the top floor for departures and bottom floor for arrivals and the parking deck used for ride share pickups. Baggage claim shouldn’t be accessible from the general public. This is how the best designed airports are done. Yet anyone can enter the airport and take a bag. Traffic jams on the top and bottom roads due to people stopping to let people out while blocking those who are trying to move ahead and pickup an arriving passenger.

@@Noidentitycrisisthe thing with Atlanta though is that they really do not have that many passengers actually coming to Atlanta airport, to go to Atlanta. Majority (75-80%) of passengers are connecting, they never even get out of the terminal. Atlanta is a fly through city. There is no reason to have 2 large airports in a city like Atlanta. Expand the current airport, new terminals and runways. Basically their entire passenger count is out of Atlanta in 30 minutes anyways.
