Thank you for all the tips and techniques, I’m just starting to get into alcohol inks. They were my mom’s and she made jewelry with them. She’s not here anymore so I feel like I can remember her when I use them and try to create something beautiful like she did. Thank you so much!! I’ve learned a lot!!
I love monochrome as the basis for art, so this is a great fit for me. So many useful tips. I would never have thought about lifting colour off with a spare brush, despite doing this quite a bit in watercolour painting.
Have only recently stumbled on alcohol ink art and what fun it must be to work in this medium. You’ve been the best and most comprehensive artist/teacher I’ve come across thus far. Thanks for sharing your art and process.
If you have a 'cool' setting on your hairdryer (or even a lower heat setting rather than just a speed setting) use it on the lower setting. That way, there's less risk of the plastic coating on the surface of the paper/board, etc, from warping or melting.
Verbally walking us through your thought process, calm voice, layered examples, your comfort with ambiguity and reminders that this is practice... all come together for a great tutorial. Thanks! I'd like to see examples of how to create galaxies w/stars✨
I have a big belief in starting small. Someone recommended this to me when I was starting to do watercolour painting. It's helped me a lot. I'm going to cut my boards down a lot before trying this on either my yupo paper or on anything larger. Luckily, I recently picked up some plastic hollow-core plastic board from outside a factory recently. I was intending to use this for making some sewing fabric storage. I'm sure there'll be lots of smaller bits leftover so that will be useful for practising. Now, you've inspired me to try alcohol ink art. I bought the inks quite a few years ago and have never quite gotten around to starting it. (I have about 100 projects on the go at any one time. I'm still restoring my courtyard table and in the midst of creating a movable shade to go over it. Grommets are done- just need to attach the ends to the poles somehow, without them slipping down! My native tree drops gumnuts and debris onto the table constantly so I need something over the table before attempting any artwork outside. From what I've read, alcohol inks need to be used in plenty of air- not inside! Thanks for the inspiration and ideas.
I got into art in the 80-90s and loved mixed medias/abstract/handmade paper. With abstract there really is no right or wrong and everyone sees something different. Then I got divorced…. And am just now getting back to art. I love the resin work, acrylic pours, etc. but just haven’t started any of if. All the supplies are expensive (for me), but watching your videos, shows that I wouldn’t need a lot to start out, since I would need a lot of practice/experimenting first. Thank you for showing us how you get all these different effects… My creative juices are flowing again and I’m ready to “play”!!! lol
A great video for anyone who works with alcohol ink. It makes me less afraid to move the ink and alcohol around. You are a wonderful artist and a great teacher. I’m getting back into alcohol ink painting and am inspired by you to experiment more. Keep making videos for us to enjoy.
I guess I should just be patient I’ve been doing alcohol inks only for four months I started on tiles now I’m working my way up to the back of photo paper for practicing I watch your videos over and over and over again you have the best videos that teach people that I found so far please keep posting videos
I am new to this and so far your posts have been my favourites. No music, commentary only on what your're doing and SO informative. Really really helpful. Thank you.
You're very welcome and thank you. I try to have both the ones with music have a meditative relaxing aspect while the tutorials allow for you to understand my thought process.
Thank you, thank you for generously sharing your techniques with others! I've searched in vain for a true tutorial on alcohol inks, and most videos are a few seconds long (at warp speed), and it's impossible to see what the artist is doing. Not only is your video detailed, but it's relaxing and encouraging. I can't wait to start practicing! Much appreciated 🤗
THIS VIDEO SHOWED ME TO LEARN TO BE MORE PATIENT TO PRACTICE MORE. I STARTED OUT YEARS AGO AND LOST MY INTEREST. BUT NOW THERE ARE SO MUCH GORGEOUS ALCOHOL INK ARTISTS ON UA-cam, I WILL PICK IT UP AGAIN. THANKS FOR THIS AWESOME VIDEO AND THIS PAINTING TURNED OUT REALLY NICE.
You have an amazing teaching talent. TYSM! I just bought my 1st inks after 15 years of doing watercolor, acrylic, pigment, and die inks. I decided it's time to learn something new 😊 After watching this, I feel better prepared to start and have fun.
I did my very first alcohol ink painting today and just naturally piked up the brush to adjust parts that I wasn't happy with. It's like it is never truly finished. Lots of fun learning. Thank you so much for the demonstration 👏👏
I’ve just ordered and now waiting for my alcohol inks to be delivered. So I’m bing watching so many tutorials. So pleased to have found you. Will be watching more of yours. So very helpful, your techniques are fabulous. So many times whilst watching I was amazed as I went from loving your composition to thinking you’d gone too far and messed it up. You are amazing. Can’t wait to get started. 😊
I’m on day two of binging alcohol ink videos and have learned so much from your video. I absolutely love the attitude of it is just practice just keep going and try it.
Wow! Super teacher - just beautiful:) Your best advice for newbies is look at it as a 'practice.' Thanks for being attentive to your comments. It matters that you care that much. Subscriber from NW FL.
Thank you so much for all these tips and tricks! I am a watercolourist and this reminds me so much of negative painting the way you use your blower thingy and brush! You’ve convinced me to try!💗🇨🇦
wow.....this is the first of your videos I've seen and I have watched quite a few for beginners but this has got to be the best, I have only had a little play with inks and am amazed how the different ways of using the inks and air at all the different effects, so much to learn...........I'm itching for more so have subscribed to your channel exciting times ahead...........love the brushing too.
+mewdar thank you so much for the kind comment and subscribing. You can get some really nice effects with the brush. good luck can't wait to see what you make.

I also like that you keep it fairly simple to understand. Also only using 2-3 color is a good suggestion. I hope it’s something they’ll enjoy. Thank you!
Love your instructions, encouragement, and tips. I am not a born artist but am trying really hard to get better. Often I feel that anything I do is not worth the paper its on. Your encouragement helps me to keep trying. Thank you!
Very informative video, I will definitely try this technique. I love the witch’s face on the right hand side. Her big nose! You should state use these inks in well ventilated air.
This video was very helpful thank you. My 5 yr old grandson said i have to make him a birthday card so I’ve decided to try an INK painting. Never done one before so 🤞. Thank you for keeping it simple.🏴
Thank you so much for your time, really appreciated. Only just started and you've actually given me more confidence. Been a bit scared I think to add as much alcohol? Honestly loved what you have produced, I shall seek out more of your videos. When I was young and said I loved Picasso, people used to think I was mad! Always like abstract art. Thanks again, you're great!
Thank you for the time and attention you gave to this tutorial. I feel much more confident now about going ahead and giving it a try. Again, thank you.❤

I'm just starting out with this medium, and I've seen a lot of alcohol ink artists use 99% alcohol rather than 91%... was wanting your take on how much a difference it makes....beautiful work btw....
This is really helpful, thank you for sharing your process. It's so nice to see artists sharing their expertise. I'm just starting out with alcohol inks and my biggest battle at the moment is trying to create pieces that don't look overworked. You see some peoples work which looks like the ink has just found its own beautiful form with very little intervention, and even though I know that probably isn't the case it can be frustrating trying to achieve that effect!
I just started using alcohol inks and this video is excellent for a beginner. I especially like your encouragement and info shared on voice and intent. Also, alternative material to Yupo . Great video. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your skills! I learned so much just from this one video! I usually work with acrylics only, but am looking at venturing into ink.
Thank you SO much for making the fear go away. I've been procrastinating starting with this medium because of all the utterly gorgeous things done by other artists, the problem being that while of course I want to be as good as they are, I simply am not trying to do what they are doing.. Your calm voice and generous heart have given me courage to actually begin. Thank you!

I've been procrastinating starting with this medium because of all the utterly gorgeous things done by other artists, the problem being that while of course I want to be as good as they are, I simply am not trying to do what they are doing.. Your calm voice and generous heart have given me courage to actually begin. Thank you!
Of course Patricia gotta just jump in

Great lesson. Very "honest". Subscribe..... and I ordered a rocket puffer and blow dryer. Now, impatience is my biggest problem. This will serve as a form of meditation. Thanks for this.
Thanks for subscribing, Me too, it's taught me to be patient and enjoy the process, luckily alcohol doesn't take long to evaporate, 😄
This is the most informative video I have seen on this. It would help me to discuss what composition rules you are going for when you use this word. Thank you. This was great.
Thank you!
A demo every three days would be awesome! Love your tutorials and your art.
I will try my best to do a demo every 3 days. It's really tough with a family and work. But I'll do my best.
