I cannot Thank you enough for the, "Practice Mindset" thought process.. I'm about a year into paint pouring and love the alcohol ink elegance and would love to try this, but even with a year in with any art I get frustrated and just want to quit. But with the practice mindset it has calmed me to actually enjoy the art again vs the pressure of doing it right everytime (which I'm learning is Impossible). So with this mindset I just have a different perspective and can try new things without getting so down on myself. So Thank you again not just for your teaching but just that simple phrase has made me relax again which the reasoning I started to begin with to relax and enjoy n mess up n have fun n learn from my mistakes rather than just get frustrated and if it comes out right great but if not hey it was just practice! Lol

A truly beautiful piece and so very instructive, thank you. I was mesmerised by the eyes and rabbitty nose which emerged in the middle of the olive section at 17:27 and remained rabbitus intactus until around 23:00 :) It would be terrific if you would turn the piece at the end of your tutorials so we can view your compositions as you see them :)

If you type in the search on youtube "how to create the perfect petals using an airbrush and alcohol ink" you should some excellent hits. Especially one from Vivo Vintage Design. I couldn't do anything until I watched her tutorial. Now I keep needing to remind myself to hold the brush really close to the paper. Doesn't matter what type of brush you're using you need to keep it really close. Almost touching. Have fun. Don't give up. 😊

Thanks! I haven’t used my alcohol inks in at least a couple of years and needed a refresher. Would love it if you’d do some videos without the distraction of music. I like hearing what you have to say.
I find it interesting that you're using the refills for copic. I'm sure that saves quite a bit of money. Never thought of that. I quickly scanned the supplies on Amazon and didn't see that little squeeze blower. I've been using straws, which also work well. Another great thing about Yupo is that you can wash (most) of it off and start over. Some colors like the blues and reds (raisin is one of my favs) don't come out all the way. Also you can do alcohol inks and then watercolor over and in most cases, the watercolor won't move the ink and vice-versa.
I have an alcohol ink safety video I would never use a straw. Copic refills are quite expensive 3x more than Tim Holtz, but they do have more color saturation. Here is the lens cleaner blower amzn.to/3GKUJYN I've tried water color over the alcohol ink but for some reason I have to seal the alcohol ink first before putting water color over because I use brushes and it does lift with the brush when I apply the watercolor on top. They may be the same. I would try the general dust removal ones if they have a way to quickly squeeze them and the bounce back up for you to squeeze it again.

Welcome back! As always, BEAUTIFUL! Quick question: I tried prepping a canvas with Kilz3 (couldn't find Kilz2) per your advice. I used 2 coats. Waited for over a week to use, so I know it was completely dry. Unfortunately, when the alcohol and ink dried, I noticed it had crazed EVERYWHERE....yuck! Not sure what I did wrong. I used my blow dryer on warm (no cool setting) and held it at a distance from the canvas. But what could have caused the crazing unless it was heat. Thoughts? Thanks!

Thank you so much carmel heumann. :-) You can use Yupo, Nara, my Sketchbook, Plastic poster board. I typically use Canvas' for my main paintings. I use paper for practice.
Did u ever c the revlon hair dryer? Everyones got one but u lol . Havent painted in months just fell out of it, but i miss and love it… i do suffer from depression so that doesnt help. Sometimes u inspire me i was wandering where u went!
Might be a dumb question, but I notice how you blow ink around. What are you trying to make it do??? Just make it look cool??? 0r what? I just "play" and stop when I like how any area looks. But as I move ink around, I don't really know WHY I'm doing that. You said you want metallic to make edges with green. So do I try to make edges??? You're asking about the purpose of why I'm moving the ink the way I'm moving it? It's what I'm trying to achieve mostly. Sometimes it's about just connecting lines or showing the flow of one color into the other, showing direction, and sometimes it's just what feels right. What feels right to you as you paint. Usually something inside you tells you when to stop, when to start, or where to move it, and it's sort of an instinctual feeling. Over the years you start honing in on those feelings of what you think looks good and hopefully what you think looks good others think looks good. Most of the time art is about playing and that's the right mentality as you do art and that's what I tried to push through all of my videos. When I push the inks back and forth, I'm trying to create many little mini lines that show layering and this very nice onion skin effect I hope to achieve movement and tension

It's a little of both. My taste is mostly connected to my artistic understanding of what I think works or doesn't. But in the end it's still subjective.
Most of my taste is based on my artistic understanding. sometimes I don't like something because I didn't intend for it or want a different result. sometimes I don't like something because it doesn't work compositionally or color.
I absolutely love it. It looks like some kind of exotic creature with beautiful wings. I seem to be struggling when adding metallics. Every time I use my pinata brass or silver I do get some really beautiful effects where it gathers together but I also tend to have a lot of areas where it sinks beneath my colors and makes them look very muddy. Am I doing something wrong or is this a common problem? Is there any trick to not have this happen?
Thank you so much. That usually happens if you move it around too much. You can add alcohol and use a brush to pick it back up off the medium. Once you pick it up use the blow dryer immediately to push it to a side to make your line
How do you keep the Metallica flowing without altering the alcohol structure too much? I've found it is a very hard balancing act and frequently end up with the metallic spread more than I'd like or the metallic in the lines, but the underlying ink being spread in ways I don't care for.
The structure does alter as you pour it and move it around you can use a brush to redefine the structure and make sure you you have your blow dryer helping you move it.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, talent and skills with us, but could you please mute any noise such a blow dryer? I know video editing is a pain, but lots of us are neurotic like me and it sends us into a panic attack for no reason whatsoever ❤
I didn’t even notice the blow dryer the first time I watched this, that’s how subdued the noise was. I’ve watched plenty of videos where they don’t edit anything out and their microphones record whatever blowing machines at close range so when you’re watching the video and they turn on whatever noisy device💥.. it can be shocking but mostly annoying. This video is actually quite peaceful, blow dryer and all.. it’s also 2 yrs old btw, perhaps you’ve been a tad spoiled with the YT videos you watch and the way they’re edited.☺️
Why has my alcohol ink started to clump as I work with it. I have to use a LOT of 91% and or solution to reduce the floating bits. But the bits are always present. Happens to all 4 brands I have.
@@jasonballinger3549 I mention it in my demo videos, I buy it here in the States from Michael's they are 18"x 30" boards that I cut for demo purposes. They are plastic and are used for school projects and yard signs since they don't damage when wet.

Very customer friendly your videos. Remind me what type of paper are you using ? Yupo? I don’t know what to start for a beginner . I use canvases for oil painting , wood for resin but no idea what paper you use ?
Thank you so much carmel heumann. :-) You can use Yupo, Nara, my Sketchbook, Plastic poster board. I typically use Canvas' for my main paintings. I use paper for practice.

Wow, you make it look so easy, I am new, what is the difference with using a heat gun, or a spray brush, compared to a blow dryer?
I would use the cold setting on a blow dryer to give you more time. spray brush is ok for detail work not enough air to move big sections on canvas.
Did u ever c the revlon hair dryer? Everyones got one but u lol . Havent painted in months just fell out of it, but i miss and love it… i do suffer from depression so that doesnt help. Sometimes u inspire me i was wandering where u went!

I want to make koi fish. How can I make the out lines and fill in with achohal inks. Is there a barrier to stop the inks?
Might be a dumb question, but I notice how you blow ink around. What are you trying to make it do??? Just make it look cool??? 0r what?
I just "play" and stop when I like how any area looks. But as I move ink around, I don't really know WHY I'm doing that.
You said you want metallic to make edges with green. So do I try to make edges???

You're asking about the purpose of why I'm moving the ink the way I'm moving it? It's what I'm trying to achieve mostly.
Sometimes it's about just connecting lines or showing the flow of one color into the other, showing direction, and sometimes it's just what feels right. What feels right to you as you paint. Usually something inside you tells you when to stop, when to start, or where to move it, and it's sort of an instinctual feeling. Over the years you start honing in on those feelings of what you think looks good and hopefully what you think looks good others think looks good.
Most of the time art is about playing and that's the right mentality as you do art and that's what I tried to push through all of my videos. When I push the inks back and forth, I'm trying to create many little mini lines that show layering and this very nice onion skin effect I hope to achieve movement and tension

When you say you do not like something,is that just taste, or is it artistic understanding?
It's a little of both. My taste is mostly connected to my artistic understanding of what I think works or doesn't. But in the end it's still subjective.
Most of my taste is based on my artistic understanding. sometimes I don't like something because I didn't intend for it or want a different result. sometimes I don't like something because it doesn't work compositionally or color.

I mention it in my videos, plastic poster board, yupo sketchbook available on my askariart.com website, and for my clients I use linen or canvas
I absolutely love it. It looks like some kind of exotic creature with beautiful wings. I seem to be struggling when adding metallics. Every time I use my pinata brass or silver I do get some really beautiful effects where it gathers together but I also tend to have a lot of areas where it sinks beneath my colors and makes them look very muddy. Am I doing something wrong or is this a common problem? Is there any trick to not have this happen?
Thank you so much. That usually happens if you move it around too much. You can add alcohol and use a brush to pick it back up off the medium. Once you pick it up use the blow dryer immediately to push it to a side to make your line

For my demos I use yupo, plastic poster board, or canvas. I'm not sure, are you are referring to India inks?

How do you keep the Metallica flowing without altering the alcohol structure too much? I've found it is a very hard balancing act and frequently end up with the metallic spread more than I'd like or the metallic in the lines, but the underlying ink being spread in ways I don't care for.
The structure does alter as you pour it and move it around you can use a brush to redefine the structure and make sure you you have your blow dryer helping you move it.
You mention that the plastic board (paper) isn’t “archival”. What does that mean?

That's why I use plastic poster board for practice. Archival means it may not last 10 to 20 years it'll either fade or yellow
How do you smooth out canvases, so the inks look smooth?
I have a video on how to prep a canvas. You have to sand it in-between Kilz2 coats

I didn’t even notice the blow dryer the first time I watched this, that’s how subdued the noise was. I’ve watched plenty of videos where they don’t edit anything out and their microphones record whatever blowing machines at close range so when you’re watching the video and they turn on whatever noisy device💥.. it can be shocking but mostly annoying. This video is actually quite peaceful, blow dryer and all.. it’s also 2 yrs old btw, perhaps you’ve been a tad spoiled with the YT videos you watch and the way they’re edited.☺️

Why has my alcohol ink started to clump as I work with it. I have to use a LOT of 91% and or solution to reduce the floating bits. But the bits are always present. Happens to all 4 brands I have.

@@jasonballinger3549 I mention it in my demo videos, I buy it here in the States from Michael's they are 18"x 30" boards that I cut for demo purposes. They are plastic and are used for school projects and yard signs since they don't damage when wet.
