I build my own version of this formula a few months back. Love it. mine is ~12 grams heavier due to baby ratel camera, diamond vtx and separate rx. typical flights are 5 1/2 minutes on a rdq 450 2s. other components are FPVcycle babytooth 2mm frame, rcinpower 1202.5 6000kv motors, jhemcu 20a aio, GF 3016 props, larvax canopy.
Nick Burns I have two of the jhemcu 20A aio's. The one on the 3" quad has countless flights and crashes on it, and I had another 2.5" quad that had many dozens of flights before I dismantled it since the 3" was so much better.
The simplicity of this quad is what is alluring to me. Having a truly all-in-one board makes this setup unique, not to mention ultra light weight. And I think using 2S will drop the amps enough to make this board reliable where the Mobula 6 AIO board would be more prone to failure on higher kv 1S BabyTooth setups.
With parts for a proper babytooth being back ordered, and parts for other popular toothpick config s being sparse, this is probably going to be a popular pickup over the next few months. Currently I’m on probably 3 wait lists for toothpick parts, but I may just pick this up to have as a base to start with - cool thing is you could always swap motors to make it a 1s primary.
I've got one thanks to Nick's rewiew but mine is with R-XSR. It's amazing, it's quite and powerful in the same time. And the range... oh my God the range is extraordinary. I recommend this quad as well. I love it 😎

love my Mobula 6 for outdoor ripping in small spaces ...but ...that thing cannot handle a wind stronger than two snails farting at the same time. Is this better for general ripping in a little more wind? Reasonably quiet? Recommended? Maybe time to do a round-up of what you like in each of the micro classes; so many choices now. Like the camera on this one, and it seems decent all around with now glaring weaknesses.
Yes naked props can cut through far more wind. Now if the wind is strong like 20mph we feel it but still relatable. Much over 20mph wind we need to move up to something heavier
Been flying the mob 6hd indoor. I don’t know about tearing it up, but Figure I’m close to 100 packs thru. Feeling this would be a good place to begin outdoor? Will stick to 2S! Have flown quite a bit outside, but it’s been photo drones…. Flying the mob6 has really upped my game as a drone pilot in general. Worries about a yaw when I shoulda rolled are mostly gone…mostly!
As you said, you can put Insta360 GO on almost anything these days. I have a little recommendation for that. Have you tried iFlights Turbobee 136RS with Insta360 GO? I made a custom canopy for mine and with 4s 500mah, it is a blast. It behaves a lot like a larger freestyle quad and is very quiet and yet, still quick. I won't spam my video but if it sounds interesting, let me know ;)
Pretty cool that u tried 1s just to see how it would do. I wonder if the nbd savage 8450 combo will do any better on 1s since it’s lighter and higher kv, granted it’s meant for 2s
Awesome flying, Nick!!! 😃 Seems like a great little quad! I liked it! 😃 (Although I didn't like the VTX... 😬) Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nick your rewiews are simply the bast. I already ordered this quad from your link. PS you could sell everything to anyone 😜 thanks for your good work. Konrad S
great great review again! I've just got this crux3 couples ago and really enjoy the flight in my backyard. Really admire your cornering skill, can you tell me how to do that :P
The main issue we have is coordinating yaw, roll and more throttle, all three happen at the same time to hold the cornering line and height. If we have less camera angle we need more yaw, more camera angle more roll.
I am jealous! I want that setup, I will get this for the FC. V2.2 fix some issues I had the crazybee X V1.0 . I might try some 65mm props. BUT I am in Canada, snow is coming! so this will be a tinywhoop FC for now. A other tip, scale the insta360 to 4K to get better result on YT. So when you create your video, make it 4K and scale everything up. So you take 1080 and scale to 4K and export to 4K.
@@NickBurnsFPV For what it's worth, I have heard the compression is better with 1440p & 4k (the same afaik). This might help you Nick since I know your computer can't handle 4k video files very well!
@@NickBurnsFPV I started with tiny whoops and then went to 5 inch. I just recently got the larva x and now it’s one of my best quads. I think one of the best things about micros is that you can push yourself, crash all day and the quad is fine. Anyway keep up the good work bro
@@NickBurnsFPV it's rather a generic question about drone. (for comparing yes we need to limit max trottle (for high tension) to the same power as the lower battery)
There is absolutely NO reason to interrupt the fibers in the central part. The carbon orientation is correct and even a thin "cross" in the middle would have made the frame WAY stiffer. I can't stress how much it impacts the tune and flight feeling. That's a pity for an otherwise excellent product and I'm really happy to see a real AIO board with 2s capability, it opens up so many possibilities.
Thanks for the great review Nick! Do you remember if this drone runs hot by any chance? I had this guy just sitting on my bench and it was reaching 57 deg C. Even on USB! Wondering if I received a dud.
I am trying to figure out how to adjust my VTX on my new Crux3 FrSky SPI. I have flashed it up to the latest Firmware (CRAZYBEEF4FR 4.2.10) in Betaflight Configurator 10.7.1. I am trying to figure out what channel this VTX is on (and be able to adjust it) and turn up the output to 200MW. I can't seem to find a strong enough channel on my goggles "Search" function to fly the damn thing past arms reach without complete static snow-out. I can't get the VTX table to pop up in the "Video Transmitter" tab for some reason. when i click on that tab it says "Your VTX is not configured or not supported. So you can't modify the VTX values from here. This will onlyu be possible if the flight controller is attached tot the VTX using some protocol like Tramp or SmartAudio and is correctly configured in the Ports tab if needed." In the "Ports" Tab There is a UART1 and a UART 2 but I have no idea which one controls the Smart Audio on this thing. But when i try to turn on Tramp or SmartAudio on one of these UARTS, I get a message that says "The VTX table has not been set up correctly and without it VTX control will not be possible. Please set up the VTX table in the Video Transmitter tab." Not much help on the Happy Model website. Also can't seem to find any videos on UA-cam to help out. I have been trying to figure this out for hours so any help at all is GREATLY appreciated.
This is a hoot to fly I keep the camera angle stock and rip it indoors on 1s never taken it out the spi frsky is a let down and tiny pads to put an elrs makes me leave it stock. Could I move the gutts to an85mm whoop frame and run e max 4 blade props basically make it a 85mm whoop
I’m trying to wire tracer to this quad and cant figure it out I have the crazybeex 2.2 I worked to the txt/tx 2 pads bound the receiver to my transmitter via agent m but not getting anything in beta flight it’s on crossfire and set to serial rx
Probably need to double triple check the wiring, settings etc. I don't use crossfire but from the message it seems it should work, as long as what appears to be typos are indeed typos.
I know this is a year old video, but got a question. Bought mine in feb this year. In the specs it recommends betaflight 3.5.7 and factory esc firmware version is 16.7. This crux came with betaflight 4.2.2 and esc version 16.8, AND had bidirectional d shot enabled and is using rpm filtering. Blheli_s firmware only goes to 16.71 so my question is, If i have to replace a motor and need to change motor direction for some reason, am I to use blheli_m configurator? They never give enough info in descriptions.. lol If you know the answer, it will be appreciated. :)
typically to change motor direction we can use any esc software, we aren't flashing firmware in the case of changing motor direction and therefore we can use the bluejay configurator, blheli s configurator or even the chrome based website of esc-configurator.com
@@NickBurnsFPV Makes sense now and cool to know. My first dealing with Blheli s. Other 9 kwads is all 32.. lol Just flashed M to the babytooth and have RPM filters on it too now.. man what a difference. Almost got the final tune done. Thanks so much for your reply.
I just ordered my crux3 yesterday and was wondering if you think it would be a good candidate for a runcam split 3 lite mod? Thanks for all the great reviews Nick.
If the plan is to fly in a smooth style it will be fine, but if you want to do more aggressive or faster flying the extra weight could be an issue. Split cams don't tend to be as durable as non splits..something to consider.
Just received mine and was wondering if you are flying the stock tune here? The tune on mine on Profile 1 was really, really bad - oscillations from the get go. I switched to Profile 2 which was a bit better. I then checked in the configurator and saw that it comes flashed with BF 3.5.7 - going to re-flash that to a more up to date version for some RPM filtering :-D
@@NickBurnsFPV awesome! Cant wait for a video as its so far the best option for 1s 3" fun unless building kababs babytooth (but everything is always out of stock and from us to europe is quite expensive)

Really love your nice review! Right now I got a problem for the receiver options here.I wanna pick up the tbs cross nano RX, might be able to get better Signal comparing to other receivers such us dsm2 /flysky/fry sky d8 etc.... but I just don’t like tbs’weight, the T shape antenna may make this little bird a bit bulky given this size of little toothpick. so which receiver you were flying by in this video and how was the signal?I do have the TBS tango2 controller and the radiomaster t16S with the cross fire TX . (many options for me....) So really don’t know which receiver I am about to choose. Just wanna fly it the same way at my house around the building and trees like what you did. Thx!

Does the insta360 go make sounds when you turn it on, start or stop recording? If it does, you can connect to it through wifi and start and stop video to hear the beep if it gets ejected during a crash. I figured this out with my hero 6 after it and the tpu ripped off my quad during a hard crash.

Hey Nick! I currently have the Mobula 6 and I'm looking to upgrade to something with a bit more power and better outdoor performance. Do you think the Crux 3 would be a good option or would you recommend something else? Thanks :)

Over all the 2s is best but for a smaller flying area 1s is viable if you just gota get your crux3 jones fix.
fyi the motorsdo actually have screws, they are just kinda hard to see, so you can screw props on if you wanted to
love my Mobula 6 for outdoor ripping in small spaces ...but ...that thing cannot handle a wind stronger than two snails farting at the same time.
Yea, the crux3 is a nice quad and much more capable outside. This will allow us to start exploring speed, dive and tricks.
I won't spam my video but if it sounds interesting, let me know ;)
Sounds interesting! Do you have a vid?
@@MarcoLopez-wy6zx It is the "Guess the Quad" video in my stream

Pretty cool that u tried 1s just to see how it would do. I wonder if the nbd savage 8450 combo will do any better on 1s since it’s lighter and higher kv, granted it’s meant for 2s
The savage bee has two versions, different motor kv

Well I hope I am not selling, I do appreciate the compliment 👍
great great review again!
@@NickBurnsFPV thank you for the tips! master! :p
The flight looks fantastic!
Thank you
I am jealous!
I will test out the scaling
@@NickBurnsFPV For what it's worth, I have heard the compression is better with 1440p & 4k (the same afaik). This might help you Nick since I know your computer can't handle 4k video files very well!
Just getting into micro quads crux3 looks like a winner. Nice review.
Thank you. Have you been flying larger quads? What brought you to look into micros?
@@NickBurnsFPV I started with tiny whoops and then went to 5 inch. I just recently got the larva x and now it’s one of my best quads. I think one of the best things about micros is that you can push yourself, crash all day and the quad is fine. Anyway keep up the good work bro
Thank you.
Is there a difference of flight time between 1s 600mah and 2s 300mah for smooth cruising? efficiency is better in 2S non?
I can't definitively say as I didn't test both those sizes of batteries. 1s is very mild flight
I used a mobula 7 aio on a tyro 69 frame and motors and it was a blast
Thanks for the great review Nick!
Do you remember if this drone runs hot by any chance? I had this guy just sitting on my bench and it was reaching 57 deg C. Even on USB! Wondering if I received a dud.
The AIO do run hot, I don't suggest leaving it plugged in without air flow for long.
This will onlyu be possible if the flight controller is attached tot the VTX using some protocol like Tramp or SmartAudio and is correctly configured in the Ports tab if needed."
In the "Ports" Tab There is a UART1 and a UART 2 but I have no idea which one controls the Smart Audio on this thing. But when i try to turn on Tramp or SmartAudio on one of these UARTS, I get a message that says "The VTX table has not been set up correctly and without it VTX control will not be possible. Please set up the VTX table in the Video Transmitter tab."
Not much help on the Happy Model website. Also can't seem to find any videos on UA-cam to help out. I have been trying to figure this out for hours so any help at all is GREATLY appreciated.

That caddx Ant camera is growing on me for the price it does not look too bad
At first not so much? 😁
@@NickBurnsFPV very good point to consider. Thank you.
Just received mine and was wondering if you are flying the stock tune here? The tune on mine on Profile 1 was really, really bad - oscillations from the get go. I switched to Profile 2 which was a bit better. Nick,
How much louder is the 2s vs 1s baby tooth?
Baby tooth is almost silent, is this much louder? Just a little? Thanks buddy
I think the biggest difference is in high throttle near 100%, likely 70% louder on 2s. Lower throttle is barely noticeable.
how well do the props stay on? I just ordered one along with the neon yellow props. Just makes it easier to find!
If we apply them well and straight down I would expect it to take a pretty hard crash to take a prop off.
