I am seeing the aio and vtx on their aliexpress store (linked in video description), but not motors or even the leds. Maybe they will list them soon as I believe the baby ape just launches.
Hay nick I just got the bay ape pro and I'm having some problems the motors jitter and it's pulling to the left so I correct it to the right but eventually it pulls to the left and I have zero right input any ideas? Thanks so much
Hi Nick Great video and review of the Darwin Babyape 3. WoW ! I have not seen any 3in quad for that price for a long time. Those motors remind me of KingKong motors back when I started. I just like to see how they hold up. Thanks again for the video and information.
These days it’s hard to buy an aio fc/esc for 60$. 10$ more you get a frame, 4 motors, vtx, LED’s, props, hardware AND a camera?!! This is unbelievable for this price.
I have a baby ape ! This quad is great! I can fly it with out anybody freaking out, It’s quiet , your not disturbing anyone. It’s like flying a 5” but stealth. I use a 3s 550maH , I changed out the vtx antenna and using crossfire rx . Try one you will not be disappointed.
I bought the AIO used on here when it was on Pyrodrone for 30 bucks. The first one I received started smoking when I plugged in the USB. Didn't have issues with the replacement until I exploded it using turtle drone on 3S.
Can the default camera be changed that comes with the drone? Also can you make a video on how to connect the transmitter and goggles with the drone ? i have fs i6x transmitter
Yes, any cameras with the same mounting distance can fit. Connecting with googles is basically matching the frequency the drone is transmitting at to the goggles. Most use the goggle auto search to start.
While I have not tested a dsm receiver it does have a 3.3v pad for satelite receivers as well as 5v. From the documentation it looks like we would use rx1 for the signal wire.
The quad drone market is huge. Lower prices means more money because addicts cant resist... Nice drone for the price...😲 Even though the narrow field of view cam is not preferable, having one like that spare could come in handy.
I have the baby ape pro pnp just ordered radiomaster pocket and receiver elrs should I get the nano ranger for the radio ? And will the sky o20 goggles be a good fit for this set up thanks a lot !!! Trying to get into fpv and as much info at same time thanks!!
In this day and age where “budget” gets to the forefront of our lives, this looks fantastic. But! Is it a “you get what you pay for” quad. Quality is king and the longer something lasts the better. What was your experience with the Baby Nano Hawks motors you talked about? If they lasted then this little quad might not be so bad. Still, even I would replace the camera.
The emax babyhawk motors look a lot like this but are different kv. I haven't flown those particular motors in years. I think it was nearly 4 years ago those motors came out with the babyhawk, it might have been called the tinyhawk, it as a white prop protected quad.
If we buy a quad without a receiver we do need that. Also a charger for the batteries. The last thing that isn’t needed but good to have is a small battery checker.
If I recall correctly I used the happymodel ep2, I would suggest using the flywoo or jhemcu sp24s. They all have the little cube antenna but the flywoo and jhmecu have a boot button so if we needed to get into bootloader we don't have to solder only press the little button.
Nice thing. What is certainly changed in last 5 years from time when I started to build my 80-130 mc quads - frames, motors and props are now much better. Similar frames at 2017 was heavier but with thinner arms and more prone to break. Electronics and software in general improved too. Particular build 5 years ago was possible but overall experience was like meh. Now thing like this often give a feeling of 5".
I use an empty tape roll to set the quad on. I route the usb cable up through the roll and plug in to the quad, then when I set it all on the desk I have a bit of the roll hang off the edge of my desk for the usb cable.
Wow... Pretty impressive little quad, Nick! 😮 I really liked the frame! Maybe it should be good for a build... With 1303 motors, maybe a RunCam Split 4... Who knows. 😬 Anyway, fantastic flying and review as always! 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Love your reviews. Stoked about this cheap lil guy. And I’m not usually an audio/mix/edit snob, but there’s a persistent and high pitch ring in this video during the flight footage that almost made me think I had tinnitus for a minute there…
You know what, your right. While I don't hear it, I suspect its the audio track from the DVR. I didn't delete that track as I usually do. Sorry about that.
I ordered a BabyApe BNF with radiomaster RX, the no pro version for $91 from the Darwin website, didnt realize it was shipping form china, how is there shipping times? Anyone?
I just love my Baby. But first I replaced the junk camera with a Runcam Racer2 that had a good image but no uptilt until my Caddx Ant arrived. A little TLC was required as my vtx was up against the top plate. Longer screws and small spacers fixed it. Contrary to what most reviewers tell you it is on standard BF 4.2 PIDS. I turned off airmode and all the crutches and did a easy to do tune on it. First quad I've had where it feels glued to the sticks. It's not rocket but I fly it more than any other I have. I would have to replace it and I have many spares. A Bargain.
Hi bro, I plan to buy this darwin apes, but I don't have idea what is the receiver which is not included in the package. Can u help me by suggesting what receiver to buy n where to soldering...I'm guessing receiver to soldering to the drone but I'm not sure. Thanks bro
i just had the same aio fc die for no good reason, but i have a darwin 20x20 stack in use that's fine. i think the babyape is a good deal tho. replace the crappy camera and your still in for under $100. nowadays i think the electronics in this quad have as much chance at making it as anything else. love the videos,Nick.
I can't be to specific as its been years since I have used flysky. I suspect we need to use an rx pad on the board and select ibus on the betaflight configuration. We also likely need to have the uart "on" for the rx numbered pad.
i ordered one 2 weks ago barley out for delivery today and they shipped the batteries seperate 2 days ago so now i have to wait another 2 weeks dont order directly from darwin website its from a china warehouse thats why it takes so long and when you try to talk to someone its says on website fast respones it took 4 days for them to reply dont get me wrong its a good product for the money but the shipping is crapif anybody can find a us warehouse then thats awsome get it
@@sams0748 Sorry I don't use dsmx. I would expect to install it like any other dsmx receiver in a quad. Might want to find one of those tiny satellite dsmx receivers.
Hi, I’m reaching out for assistance with my drone. While flying, it briefly touched the ground, and I thought it was just a minor incident, so I disarmed it. However, unexpectedly, it shot back up into the air for reasons I don’t understand, and then it crashed hard. Unfortunately, it’s now broken, the motor is like pushed down and I’m unsure how to repair it. I’d appreciate guidance on troubleshooting the issue and any recommendations for repair options. Thank you for your help!
I can't be sure but sounds like the landing was with the drone still armed. This will jar the flight controller and often it can respond violently as you experienced. The way we land traditional fpv quads are to hover in place and decrease our height to a few inches above the ground then disarm (switch). As for the repair, need to acquire the motor, best source is likely the manufacturers website and solder the new motor on. You may need to acquire a soldering iron and some solder with flux to replace the motor.
depends what receiver we put in it. This is plug in fly meaning it doesn't come with a receiver. Or at least when I got mine they didn't come with a receiver.
Hey Nick, can you just swap the lens with one with a wider field of view? You'd just need one with the same threads and diameter. Worth a shot, and cheap and easy fix? Thanks for all you do!
Len's swap is an option, I guess it depends on price, if we can find a wide fov for say $4 its likely worth it. But if it gets north of that a $15 camera likely is an option I would pursue.
Hey Nick, thank you for the great review, dont know if you review comments on older videos, but in case, do you think this is a better choice than tinyhawk freestyle 2? also can it easily carry insta360 go or even go pro session?
Hmmm... I think DarwinFPV may have found a much needed niche! Could they be the new Eachine of FPV? Seems likely. I've now been in the FPV hobby for 5 years, so I've seen a little gear. 😉Watched literally multiple thousands of videos - way too many! Lol Nick's are the best of the best! My thoughts: Nick's right. These guys appear to buy parts in bulk and assemble. My only issue is they buy old parts. One's no longer used by nearly everyone! About 3 - 4 years ago we saw 1104 motors used by lots of manufacturers. No longer. Especially with no markings! 🥴 That AIO board reminds me of a primative version of the first GepRC 15 amp board I bought when AIO's first upped the amps from 5 to 12 or 15 amps. Very few quads, now a days, use only a 200 mw VTX, but nothing wrong with that! Hey, at least it isn't only 25 mw, like the real old days! Haahaa! That camera - UGH! I don't think I've ever seen one with such a small FOV. Certainly needs a replacement! Too bad too, cuz all of the other components could suffice and stay. Really brings the quad down! 👎 I did like Nick suggested, and read every comment. Some guy said those motors are "two dolla" on AliExpress. They'd have to be to make this even come close to the $79.99 shipped cost. I live in Oregon, USA, and that's what shipping added. The frame, even though it looks slightly rough, appears like it might just be the strong point of this quad. Some other guy mentioned replaceable arms and Nick the nice and surprising LED's. Wow! 👍 I have no idea if it's durable, but the AIO seems like it's possibly worth 3/4 of the quads cost! Lol Seems all current stock at dealers automatically went up in price with the "new so-called chip shortage" too, so seeing a quad shipped for 80 bucks - did we travel back in time to 2017 ? LOL I typically take a chance on quads this cheap because the AIO and the frame would cost 80 bucks! Ha! But, alas, I have over 20 quads and don't have the time to fly them already, so I have to pass. I will say this to DarwinFPV, ALL parts must be "worthy" to consider a quad "great" or a bargain. Your camera choice has let this model down. Unacceptable! I would have easily paid $10 more for you to keep that hunk of junk and use even just a Caddx Ant instead. Maybe this will help you do a better job next time. The motors keep it cheap, but seem questionable also. Other than those two parts, not a bad effort from a new-ish company to FPV. REMEMBER, next time ALL PARTS decent! Go ahead and charge slightly more to achieve that!!! 🤔🤘
Hey, it opens another door for people to get into the hobby and it seems to fly decently. Don't see many buying this and trying to put an action camera on it! Wonder if those motors had short wires to begin with. Hope they put enough protection between the led board and carbon.
I am often enlightened to those that want to put HD cameras on everything. I think I have seen more and more comments from people who come from the camera drone world and really desire that HD recording. This might be due to the DJI FPV quad launching a bit back, or that and the quad breaking, then those users enjoy more traditional fpv experience but still want the HD recording.
@@NickBurnsFPV well, i think it's because they want people to watch them on youtube, social sites, etc. They want to show it off and get people to follow them
i bought and tried to connect it to it to the betaflight, but it says failed to open serial port. I installed all drivers and it didn’t help.did some one had that problem?
This is common. I presume this is the first quad. Be sure we are using a cable that is data and power capable. Typical cell phone cables are often just power for charging. We need a cable we can get data through as well
Has anyone tried to put LI-ION batteries in this drone? (For cruising purposes), Or what's the biggest li-po you can put in this tiny drone? (I'm not going to use any action cam on it, that allows me to put a bigger 3s battery?)
I don't think I have heard of anyone documenting the different sizes of batteries that can be used on this quad. In general in FPV we compare performance rather than biggest.
Hey nick, great review! Bunch of useful informations ! Just a little question, compared to the geprc phantom, which one is the best and why ? Thank you so much 🙏
I just got one. Apparently you can only use an SBUS type of receiver, maybe. I'm trying an IBUS for Flysky but it's not recognizing it. If anyone knows more about this, please let me know!
We likely need to switch the configuration in betaflight on the configuration page from sbus to ibus. Try that. We might also have to find the flight controller and see if it has a different pad for ibus unlikely but possible
@@NickBurnsFPV that's what I thought and I did change it in Betaflight but still no response in the receiver tab. I found that I have a SBUS received and just finished hooking it up, all is good. If they have a pad on the FC for IBUS it would be nice if they point it out on the diagram that I have. Thanks Nick. I've been watching your channel for about a year and have learned a lot. In fact, I heard of this Ape quad from you initially so thanks again for all that you do.
I brought it and like it. It's so eficient and quiet. I flew it on 2s (My old batteries become new🤣) With a 550 mah 2s battery= 8 min fight time. Chose ant version because is better.
I purchased the Darwin 129 7 inch quad and it was a complete mess! Missing vibration Grommets, soldering to esc was worst I've ever seen. Barely any solder. GPS was DOA. Darwin labeled vtx is useless. RDQ did send me more Grommets because they are weird size of course. Found other issues after my first flight with vtx sucking and gps just didn't work. I've shelved it for now. I'll probably try adding a Vista HD system later. Not wasting anymore time on it. I paid $169.00 so not to mad but definitely disappointed.
Heads Baby Ape Pro, Tails Crux35, coin stands on edge Darwin129 - Baby Ape won but RDQ was out of the Pro, I added a Caddx Ant - What would the Runcam Phoenix 2 Nano 5g camera do compared to the Caddx Ant?
Your right, I went back and checked. I failed to delete the audio track from the DVR. I typically remove that track as the audio isn't useful and can have a buzzing. While I don't hear it, I suspect that is what you and one other person are hearing. Sorry I failed to remove that track. Hope it wasn't to much of a bother.
What do you think? Worth $70? If it were $90 what would you change for the extra $20?

Where can you get replacement parts I didn't see them on their website?
I am seeing the aio and vtx on their aliexpress store (linked in video description), but not motors or even the leds. Maybe they will list them soon as I believe the baby ape just launches.
They indeed look like old school Emax motors..Defo worth the money IMO however the cam would have to go.
Runcam nano 3 would be perfect
What are the best replacement motors broke 2 already 1 crashed the other making grinding noise need a upgraded motor ??
T-Motor motors are probably some of the most robust.
I can fly it with out anybody freaking out,
It’s quiet , your not disturbing anyone.
It’s like flying a 5” but stealth.
I use a 3s 550maH , I changed out the vtx antenna and using crossfire rx .
Try one you will not be disappointed.
Since you have flown both, would you recommend Crux3 or BabyApe3 for ripping? Thanks!
The babyape3 is more appropriate for ripping, but that also depends on the size of the space flown and our skill set flying.
Lil qwads are so fun
I bought the AIO used on here when it was on Pyrodrone for 30 bucks. The first one I received started smoking when I plugged in the USB. Didn't have issues with the replacement until I exploded it using turtle drone on 3S.
that was a darwinfpv AIO? And did you get the replacement from Pyrodrone or DarwinFPV?
Can the default camera be changed that comes with the drone?
Also can you make a video on how to connect the transmitter and goggles with the drone ? i have fs i6x transmitter
Yes, any cameras with the same mounting distance can fit. Connecting with googles is basically matching the frequency the drone is transmitting at to the goggles. Most use the goggle auto search to start.
@@NickBurnsFPV Thanks for your response, but can you explain the later part of the question about the transmitter?
@@tamoghnadey Its called "binding". I don't use flysky, you will need to do some research there.
@@NickBurnsFPV ya it's called binding, my bad :/
Can you use a spektrum receiver with this?
While I have not tested a dsm receiver it does have a 3.3v pad for satelite receivers as well as 5v. From the documentation it looks like we would use rx1 for the signal wire.
The quad drone market is huge. Lower prices means more money because addicts cant resist... Nice drone for the price...😲 Even though the narrow field of view cam is not preferable, having one like that spare could come in handy.
Hello, can you put a Go Pro 9 on it? It says that you can mount an action camera, but could a go pro be too heavy?
generally a 3inch prop and above handle go pro cameras fine, but the added weight does impact how responsive it is.
I have the baby ape pro pnp just ordered radiomaster pocket and receiver elrs should I get the nano ranger for the radio ? And will the sky o20 goggles be a good fit for this set up thanks a lot !!! Trying to get into fpv and as much info at same time thanks!!
If you ordered the pocket in ELRS and the receiver in elrs there is no need for the nano ranger. The goggles will work with any analog fpv quad.
Newb question: Already have analog goggles and a controller, what else is needed to use the drone
receiver.
If we buy a quad without a receiver we do need that. Also a charger for the batteries. The last thing that isn’t needed but good to have is a small battery checker.
A receiver, be sure to buy a receiver that works with your controller
Which ExpressLRS receiver did you use and any wiring suggestions?
Now thing like this often give a feeling of 5".
i am wondering how you can calibrate the accelerometer with the usb socket in that position.. 🤷♀️
I use an empty tape roll to set the quad on. I route the usb cable up through the roll and plug in to the quad, then when I set it all on the desk I have a bit of the roll hang off the edge of my desk for the usb cable.
@@NickBurnsFPV very clever
Which camera would you recommend swapping to?
I would go caddx ant that I showed in the video or for another $10 more the caddx baby ratel 2, is a big image improvement.
Wow... Pretty impressive little quad, Nick! 😮
I really liked the frame! Maybe it should be good for a build... With 1303 motors, maybe a RunCam Split 4... Who knows. 😬
Anyway, fantastic flying and review as always! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Love your reviews. Stoked about this cheap lil guy.
And I’m not usually an audio/mix/edit snob, but there’s a persistent and high pitch ring in this video during the flight footage that almost made me think I had tinnitus for a minute there…

A Bargain.

What is the largest 3S battery would you put on this?
Probably a 650

Not bad for $69.99. How long was shipping?
I wouldn't want to use my shipping experience as vendors will handle packages sent to me differently than typical.
i just had the same aio fc die for no good reason, but i have a darwin 20x20 stack in use that's fine. i think the babyape is a good deal tho. replace the crappy camera and your still in for under $100. nowadays i think the electronics in this quad have as much chance at making it as anything else. love the videos,Nick.
HTF do you keep ya head still when you do the rips....
I don't really know. Some people move about and others don't. i do fly sitting down, maybe that helps.
Hi, thinking of getting this, how would I install the receiver. I'm thinking a flysky receiver
I can't be to specific as its been years since I have used flysky. I suspect we need to use an rx pad on the board and select ibus on the betaflight configuration. We also likely need to have the uart "on" for the rx numbered pad.
i ordered one 2 weks ago barley out for delivery today and they shipped the batteries seperate 2 days ago so now i have to wait another 2 weeks dont order directly from darwin website its from a china warehouse thats why it takes so long and when you try to talk to someone its says on website fast respones it took 4 days for them to reply dont get me wrong its a good product for the money but the shipping is crapif anybody can find a us warehouse then thats awsome get it
how was your order/shipping experience with DarwinFPV? I made an order 2 days ago and have gotten any confirmation emails
I can't be a good judge of the normal shipping and shopping. Darwinfpv sent the quad to me for review. They may have used expedited shipping
Could you install a sharkbyte in this without modification?
We will need some sort of standoff to keep the sharkbyte off the AIO FC/ESC and longer screws.
Does it come with prop bolts?
At this time I don't recall, I don't think so. The props are press on. But I show everything that comes in the box.
Hii and thank you for information
Can be installed GPS and ELRS on it (if quit to smart audio feature)?
I think so. We would need two uarts
We would need an external mount for the gps
Thanks alot. I intend to buy babyape and have return home ( I lost my et115 yesterday,,,😥 because video cut and no osd).

Hi,
I’m reaching out for assistance with my drone.
What transmitter does it bind to
depends what receiver we put in it. This is plug in fly meaning it doesn't come with a receiver. Or at least when I got mine they didn't come with a receiver.
Could you replace the camera with a digital camera?
The O3 won’t fit but others would. We also have to replace and rewrite the digital vtx
@@NickBurnsFPV Ok thanks!
Motors look like the old emax babyhawk ones. At that price point worth it just for parts. Also love your reveiws, keep up the great work. X
Hello can use a naked or fully go pro 5 or go pro 7?
It could carry a naked go pro, full go pro is really going to weigh it down.
its one of the cutest looking drones ive seen yet
Camera went blind after 6 flights. Did not crash. Maybe vtx settings wrong. Need help
make sure the vtx and googles are on the precise same frequency. Do you see osd and no image, then camera is dead or not powered.
Hey Nick, can you just swap the lens with one with a wider field of view? You'd just need one with the same threads and diameter. Worth a shot, and cheap and easy fix?
Thanks for all you do!
We can do that. lens swaps are a bit hit and miss, some lenses work with specific sensors others are more generic.
@@NickBurnsFPV Understood. Would love to know if it works. Thanks!
What an awesome little unit for the price, outstanding.
Definitely worth 70 looks fantastic 👌 the winter coming 🌧 🌦 🌂 ⛈ ☔ 🌩 probably pick one up and try out the Conformal Coating..nice review nick 🥂 😎
Interesting such a low KV for 3s don't you think? For the price, wow looks like a fun fly.
Yes, almost like it could do 4s, I suspect the prop might be a bit long for 4s.
i have a darwin aio board in a whoop, my old beta75x. better than the original. Why not just a lens swap?
Len's swap is an option, I guess it depends on price, if we can find a wide fov for say $4 its likely worth it. But if it gets north of that a $15 camera likely is an option I would pursue.
With more props, lipos and aio fcs variety nowadays mix matching with old cheaper micro motors still flyable and some much better performance.
I flew a tadpole HD 3" with thrust motors. So smooth on 2-3S
Hey Nick, thank you for the great review, dont know if you review comments on older videos, but in case, do you think this is a better choice than tinyhawk freestyle 2? also can it easily carry insta360 go or even go pro session?
sorry i see now you replied on the insta360 go in the video, thank you :D
That AIO board reminds me of a primative version of the first GepRC 15 amp board I bought when AIO's first upped the amps from 5 to 12 or 15 amps.
I did like Nick suggested, and read every comment.
Wow! 👍
I have no idea if it's durable, but the AIO seems like it's possibly worth 3/4 of the quads cost! Lol Seems all current stock at dealers automatically went up in price with the "new so-called chip shortage" too, so seeing a quad shipped for 80 bucks - did we travel back in time to 2017 ? LOL
I typically take a chance on quads this cheap because the AIO and the frame would cost 80 bucks!
They have a baby ape pro with a caddx ant for like 12 dollars more
"SIXTY NINE!!!"
(sorry, I'm a child)
Great review, as always! 👍👍

I'd buy if they sold (or included) arm replacements, plus the tune looks bad (prob. betaflight defaults). Definetly not for newbees

Phantom is better. Higher quality components, slight more performance.
